Alexey Granovsky. His real name is Azarch. Born in Moscow. In 1910-1911 he studied at the Petrograd School of Performing Arts in 1911-1913 – at the Munich Theatre Academy he practiced at the theater under M. Reinhardt. Since 1914 he worked in various theaters of the country. In 1919 he organized a Jewish theater studio in Petrograd, which in 1920 was transferred to Moscow and transformed into the State Jewish Chamber Theatre.
