Sandra’s childhood and school years were usually simple: the girl, after graduating from school, decided to devote her life to ballet, but soon she began to study theater at the Theatre School. She took part in David Mamet’s production of Oleanne in Ontario and London. In 1993, Sandra Oh received an invitation to star in the Canadian television film “The Diary of Evelyn Lo”, successfully beating over a thousand applicants for this role at the audition.
In 1994, the actress was awarded “Best Actress of the Year” at the International Film Festival in Cannes. Also Sandra has two awards “Genie Award” – the Canadian equivalent of the “Oscar” and was awarded the “Golden Globe” award in the category “Best supporting actress of a television series”.
In 2003, Sandra Oh married the famous director Alexander Payne. A year later, they together released the film “On the curb”, for which they were awarded an Oscar. The marriage of a young couple was fragile, the family ship crashed in 2006.
The film “Three Needles” was released in 2005 and brought the actress, who played the role of nun Mary, true fame. Then there was work in the voiceover of the character of Katie’s mother in the animated series “American Dad”, which was shown from 2005 to 2009.
