Vasif Adygezalov is one of the leading Azerbaijani composers and musical figures. He was born into the family of Azerbaijani folk singer Zulfugar Adigezalov in Baku on July 28, 1935. His younger brother Rauf also tied his fate with music - he became a singer and a famous violinist in the republic. Vasif Adygezalov is one of the leading Azerbaijani composers and musical figures.
He was born into the family of Azerbaijani folk singer Zulfugar Adigezalov in Baku on July 28, 1935. His younger brother Rauf also tied his fate with music - he became a singer and a famous violinist in the republic.
Vasif studied at the Azerbaijan (now Baku) Conservatory in two specialties – composition and piano, having received a diploma in 1959.
He began his professional career a year earlier, working as a music reactor in the Republican TV and Radio Committee. Later he was in the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan, where in the last 16 years of his life he held the post of chairman, and also taught at the conservatory, where he eventually headed the department of choral conducting.
Thanks to his father’s influence, Vasif Adygezalov often included elements of traditional mugham music in his compositions, but over the years he composed 3 operas, 4 symphonies, a number of instrumental concerts, oratorios, wrote music for the theater and cinema, romances.
The composer died after a serious illness in 2006.
