Her creative career began in 1947, when Nina Evgenyevna entered the All-Union Institute of Cinematography at the acting faculty. The start of studies at the institute was not quite successful for a young girl. The head of the course, Boris Babochkin, could not see in his student either bright, catchy beauty, or simple feminine prettyness. He did not see the acting future of Nina, repeatedly cautiously hinting at it.
The tortures in Menshikova’s teaching lasted two years, and perhaps the name of actress Menshikova would never have been heard if,
Exhausted by the constant nitpicking of the course leader, she did not move to the course below, to the workshop of the talented teacher Sergey Apollinarievich Gerasimov, who managed to reveal the versatility and originality of Menshikova’s talent. It was he who discovered in her the actor’s charm and high professionalism. The actress showed incredible perseverance in achieving the goals set by the teacher.
The first work of Nina Menshikova on the screen is the role of governess Mashenka in the short film “Trouble” – the diploma work of students of the director’s faculty. She showed all the professional qualities of the young actress: the ability to move plastically, good gestures, correct facial expression of the mood of the heroine.
The further path of Menshikova in cinema is a lot of alternating dramatic and lyrical roles. In the movie Big and Small, Nina played the role of a good mother. Menshikova managed to show her heroine touching, loving, authentically conveying all the movements of her soul. Varvara's role in
Film "Miracleworking" allowed the actress to clearly and widely show her acting abilities. The image of Varvara is the most tragic in Menshikova’s creative baggage.
The film “Live Until Monday” brought Nina a stunning success and recognition of the audience, in which she played the role of a literature teacher. For this very successful work, Nina Menshikova was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.
