A native of the Altai Territory, Nogon Shumarov is a theater director, actor, playwright, as well as a great admirer of the culture and customs of his native land, a bard composer, a collector of folklore and an active propagandist of the ancient culture of “kaichi”, as the narrators of the Altai epic were called.
He was born on July 9, 1947 in the small village of Maly Yaloman on the banks of the full-flowing Katun River. He studied at the Novosibirsk Theatre School, then at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography. Since 1978, he has been the permanent head of the drama theater in Gorno-Altaisk, where he directed more than sixty performances and theatrical performances.
Belonging to 30 years of folk art, since then Nogon Shumarov has been actively engaged in the collection and study of folklore, writes music for national instruments - topshur, komus and shor. He tours the country and abroad a lot, performing throat singing concerts and performing ethnic music.
