Mikhail Weller was born in Kamenets-Podolsk in Ukraine on May 20, 1948. His father was an officer and his family moved frequently. After graduation, Mikhail entered the philological faculty of Leningrad University. He started working during his studies. He tried himself in different professions. And a sailor, and a teacher, and a concrete worker, and a cattle distiller from Mongolia to Biysk. Mikhail Weller was born in Kamenets-Podolsk in Ukraine on May 20, 1948. His father was an officer and his family moved frequently. After graduation, Mikhail entered the philological faculty of Leningrad University. He started working during his studies. He tried himself in different professions. And a sailor, and a teacher, and a concrete worker, and a cattle distiller from Mongolia to Biysk. He was a junior researcher at the State Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism (Kazan Cathedral), a correspondent and head of the factory newspaper. In his life, he traveled a lot on foot and on trips, wrote stories, but they were not accepted for printing for a long time. In 1978, the first publication of short humorous stories in Leningrad newspapers took place. It was only in 1981 that the book was approved for publication and accepted for publication.
The collection of stories “I want to be a janitor” was published in 1983.
Boris Strugatsky Bulat Okudzhava gave recommendations to Mikhail Weller in the Writers' Union. Participation in the international book fair in Moscow brought the sale of the rights to publish the book abroad. Michael continues to earn a living in an archaeological expedition, working as a roofer. In 1988, the second collection of short stories “Heartbreaker” was published, the author was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR. Weller is the head of the Russian literature department of the Tallinn Russian-language magazine Rainbow.
In 1990, the writer began to print in literary magazines “Neva”, “Star”, “Ogonek”. In 1991, from the pen of Mikhail Weller came the first novel, it was called “The Adventures of Major Zvyagin”. The book “Legends of Nevsky Prospect” sold 800,000 copies. There are a number of books by the author. Works by Mikhail Weller are published in English, German, French and other languages of the world.
