While in elementary school, he began writing, and in high school was the author of articles in the school newspaper. Glen wrote his first short story, The Hawk, in seventh grade. He spoke about the events of the Civil War, which Americans loved so much.
After graduation, he enrolls at the University of Missouri (Colombia), but does not complete his studies due to lack of money. After he moved to St. Louis, where, under the patronage of a friend of his father, he got a job at the General Motors plant.
Between 1969 and 1970, Cook took part in the Clarion Seminars, which are courses for novelist fiction writers. The training was very useful, as in 1970 he published his first short story “Silverheels”, as well as the novel “Bolotnaya Academy”, which was published under the pseudonym of Greg Stevens. Thanks to the Clarion seminars, the circle of his acquaintances who are engaged in publishing activities is expanding. Moreover, there he met with Carol, who in 1971 became his wife, and later gave the writer three sons.
In 1972 he published his novel “Heirs of Babylon”. This was followed by a break in his writing career, and only in 1979 saw the light of the book “Darkness of All Nights”, which marked the beginning of a whole cycle called “Empire of Horror”. In 1982, Cook switched to the genre of science fiction, writing the novel “Shadow Line”, which became the first part of the trilogy “Star Catchers”.
By the beginning of 1984 on account of the writer already quite a large number of works. But it was the creation of the Black Squad that made Glen famous. The book was written in the genre of “dark fantasy” and entailed a series of books. No less significant in the career of the writer is the creation of a detective series, which began in the work “Sweet-sounding silver blues”.
