She was born on March 22, 1915.
Hereditary noblewoman, countess, brought up in the best traditions of Russian culture, in the first years of Soviet power lost everything: home, loved ones, freedom. Hard labor in the most distant and terrible corners of the country, separation from a small daughter, the complete loss of former female beauty, and with it the self-denial of the only love for a lifetime - she withstood all the trials and found the strength to do what she loved.
After the camps, she was not afraid of anything – going to the cemetery at night, swimming in the night sea, climbing fences, stopping any manifestations of rudeness.
She often gave charity concerts, and most importantly, she achieved the return to Ukraine of the name of one of her glorious ancestors, the writer Vasily Kapnist.
Honored Artist of Ukraine.
“Nothing burns in the fire” is written on the coat of arms of the Kapnists. Maria Kapnist went through cruel trials and survived without embarrassing her wonderful ancestors.
She passed away on October 25, 1996.
