In 1990, musicians Wargod (Vegard Blomberg) and Exhurtum (Carl Michael Eide) formed the band Eczema. In 1991, the band changed its name to Satyricon, and the composition of the team was replenished by Satir (Sigurd Vongraven) and drummer Frost (Kietil-Vidar Haraldstad). In this line-up, the band releases their debut demo record, "The Forest Is My Throne", but it goes unnoticed by listeners, and almost all musicians leave the group. The remaining Satire and Frost in 1993 re-recorded the demo and sent to the production companies of Norway. At the same time, they will begin work on creating their own record company called Moonfog Productions, under the auspices of which the Dark Medieval Times compilation is published - it sounds black metal, decorated with musical "passes" of flute and acoustic guitar.
In 1994, a new album "The Shadowthrone" appeared with the rather famous song "Vikingsland". Two years later, the musicians released the album “Nemesis Divina”, which became a classic of the genre thanks to the composition “Mother North”. Later that year, the group “Satyricon” went on tour in Europe, where he performed together with the teams “Gorgoroth” and “Dissection”. Upon returning home, the band records and releases the EP "Megiddo".
Without stopping touring and album releases, the group “Satyricon” is constantly experimenting with sound: in the 1999 disc “Rebel Extravaganza” show the features of industrial, and subsequent compositions are characterized by a deep manifestation of post-black metal.
At the beginning of the new century, the musicians signed a contract with the largest company Capitol Records, on the label of which the record “Volcano” is released. The title track "Fuel for Hatred" gets into the charts of Scandinavia, thanks to which the collection is awarded the Spellemannsprisen award in the nomination "best album of the year". In 2004, he toured with Suffocation and Morbid Angel. In the summer of 2005, the band played at the Wacken Open Air Festival, followed by tours in Canada and the United States. The 2006 album "Now, Diabolical" hits the top of the charts in Norway, receives gold status and becomes a landmark in the work of the band. In 2008, Satyricon headlined the Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo. Then begins the big world tour of the team “Satyricon”, during which gala concerts are held in many major cities of the world.
