Nazareth, a Scottish hard rock band, was formed in Dunfermline in 1968 by vocalist Dan McCaffertney, bassist Pete Agnew, guitarist Manny Charlton and drummer Darryl Sweet, members of the unrecognized band The Shadettes. In the future, the composition of the group has repeatedly changed, which did not affect only the vocalist and bassist of “Nazareth”.
In 1971 on the London label Warner Bros. Records releases the debut eponymous album of the band “Nazareth”. It doesn't get much success, but it's warmly received by critics. More successful are two singles from this album, which hit the charts in France and Germany. The second album is also expected to fail.
The turning point came with the release of Razamanaz in the spring of 1973. It reaches 11th place in the British chart. In the top 10 is the next album called “Loud ‘N’ Proud”. The next album features a heavier sound, close to metal. After the release of “Rampant”, Charlton becomes the producer of the group.
In 1975, the album “Hair of the Dog” was released, as well as a collection of greatest hits. A cover of "Love Hurts", originally performed by Everly Brothers, becomes the band's hallmark. A feature of the next album is the song "Telegram". Its four parts describe the difficult life of rock artists forced to tour.
By the end of the 70s, the popularity of the group began to fade. In the early 80’s, the label “Mountain” is experiencing serious financial difficulties, which is why “Nazareth” moves to “NEMS”. During this period, the band's music "softens", it includes elements of blues, reggae and pop. In 1988, the seventeenth studio work "Snakes 'N' Ladders" was released, including the song "Animals".
In 1990-1991, Nazareth conducted a successful tour of the USSR. The following decade also takes place in studio album recordings and concerts. In 2006, the musicians gave a number of concerts in Ukraine. In 2008, the album "The Newz" was released.
