In 2004, Bill Kaulitz participated as a soloist in the Star Search competition, where he reached the semifinals with the song "It's Raining Man". Participation in the show brings musicians to know the producer Peter Hoffman. It was at his suggestion that the name of the team was changed to Tokyo Hotel. In addition, Hoffman invites to participate in the group of songwriters David Yost and Dave Roth. In August 2005, a video for the song "Durch den Monsun" appeared, which hit German TV channels and attracted the attention of a large audience of music lovers. The video for the song “Schrei” occupies the top of the charts of many countries in Europe. In the autumn of the same year, the album “Schrei” is released.
In the spring of 2006, the album “Schrei – so laut du kannst” appeared, which includes the songs “Beichte”, “Schwarz”, “Thema nr. 1”. In the summer of this year, the band goes on a European tour, during which he visits Russia, in particular Moscow. Following this tour, Tokyo Hotel travels to Zimmer 483, performing lively shows in France, Poland, Austria, as well as the only concert in St. Petersburg. Following the tour, the album Zimmer 483 was released, which became platinum in Russia and gold in France. Recording new studio tracks "Tokio Hotel" ends with the release of the album "Scream" in the same year, 2007. And again touring, performing in Belgium, Italy and Israel.
2008 for the band is quite difficult due to a serious illness of the vocal cords of soloist Bill Kaulitz, who in March 2008 undergoes surgery, and he is undergoing rehabilitation treatment. Tokio Hotel's next album, Humanoid, was released in late 2009. In it, the sound of the songs is close to synthpop and has an electronic arrangement. /
