Evora Cesaria (port. Cesaria Evora), a performer of compositions in the style of “mornas”, “modinha”, “fado”, was born in 1941 on August 27 on the island of Sao Vicente west of Senegal.
Since childhood, Cesarea has been surrounded by music. Fashionable at that time are a variety of styles and directions from ballads and waltzes to foxtrots and contradance. However, the most popular are morna and coladera, containing nostalgia, love, and sadness. Thanks to a strong voice, Evora quickly acquires the title of Queen of Morna. Until the mid-80s with his musical group Cesaria Evora travels around the country, conducts concerts, earning a living and delighting fans.
In 1985, her singing was heard by Jose da Silva. He persuades the singer to go to Paris to record a studio album. In 1988, Cesaria recorded her debut album La Diva aux Pieds Nus. Two years after the concerts and tours, Cesaria recorded the collection “Distino di Belita”, followed by the disc “Mar Azul” in 1991.
Evor Cesaria received real recognition in 1992 after the release of the album “Miss Perfumado”, which became very popular and turned the singer into a pop star. Her hallmark is the appearance on the stage barefoot, in solidarity with African women, for which fans give her the nickname “barefoot diva”.
The 1995 album "Cesaria" received a Grammy as "Best Album of the Year". Cesaria climbs to the top of the Billboard and stays there for more than 30 weeks.
Cesarea's work is enthusiastically received in Europe, especially in France and Portugal, where some of the albums go gold. Her performances at the 1995 Montreal Jazz Festival left an indelible imprint on her fans – so much power, depth and sadness in the sound of her voice. Then in 1995, Cesaria toured the United States, with concerts in New York, Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, Houston and other American cities. /
