The first album of the same name, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, was a success in both the UK and the US. A real hit is the song “Lucky Man”, which tells about a young man who died in the war. Interestingly, the song got into the collection by accident, for the release of the LP just not enough minutes. A year later, in 1971, the concept disc Tarkus was released, which took the ninth line of the Billboard chart. Emerson, Lake & Palmer's second studio album, Brain Salad Surgery. After the release of the album, a concert tour follows.
From 1974 to 1977, musicians engaged in solo projects. In 1977 he released a joint album "Works Volume I". It included the material accumulated by the participants during the period of solo activity, so the collection turned out to be quite colorful. In the same year, Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed with a symphony orchestra. However, the musicians' union does not allow more than three concerts a week or travel more than 250 miles a day. Because of this, the ELP suffers financial losses and decides to continue the threesome.
In 1978, two albums, Works Volume II and Love Beach, were released, followed by another break in activity. The original composition was restored only in 1991. Next year, the album Black Moon is released. In the period from 1996 to 1998, ELP toured extensively, but due to the contradictions that arose, it again disintegrated. In 2009, there was information about the restoration of the team. In July 2010, Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed at the High Voltage Festival.
