Ali Ibrahim "Farqa" Toure (born 1939 - died March 7, 2006) is a Malian guitarist and performer, one of the world's most famous musicians of the African continent. His music is a mixture of traditional Mali music, one of the "roots" of North American blues and modern samples of North American and English blues. He was born in 1939 (the exact date of his birth he did not know) in the Muslim village of Kano near Gurma Rarus on the banks of the Niger River in the north-east of the Malian region of Timbukhtu. He was the tenth child in the family, but the only one who did not die in infancy.
