Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band founded in 1985 by students John Petrucci, John Mayang, Mike Portnoy, Kevin Moore and Chris Collins.
The band was originally called Majesty. Majesty performs in music clubs in the city and at major parties. In 1986, three participants dropped out of college in Berkeley, where they studied at the time to devote all their time to working in the team. At the end of this year, Chris Collins leaves the band, and Charlie Dominici is accepted as a vocalist, with the arrival of which the name of the band is changed to Dream Theater. In 1988, the band signed with Mechanic Records and began work on their debut album, When Dream and Day Unite.
In 1991, Dominici left the band, and Dream Theater was looking for a new vocalist and soon hired Kevin James LaBrie. The new lineup includes the album “Images and Words”, which includes “Pull Me Under”, which successfully passed on the charts of many US radio stations. The album went gold in America and platinum in Japan.
In 1993, the band toured Europe, after which the musicians began work on a new album "Awake", which was released in October 1994. The following year, the group releases an EP with cover versions of the group's hit songs.
During 1994-1998, the band toured in Europe, while recording new compositions. In 1999, Dream Theater released Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory, well received by both fans and music critics. Since 2000, there has been a change in the style orientation of the group with a bias in metal. In 2004, the album “Live at Budokan” was released, then a touring performance of the band followed in its support.
In 2005 and 2006, Dream Theater held a large number of concerts dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the band. In 2007, Systematic Chaos was released. In 2009, the band visited Russia with concerts, in particular Moscow, where he performed in Luzhniki. /
