Battles in the North was released in 1994. The circulation of the album exceeds 50 thousand copies. Until 1996, the band had a permanent lineup of two musicians, but this year drummer Reidar Horgh and Demonaz joined Abbath and Demonaz. He is featured on Blizzard Beasts.
The 1998 album At The Heart Of Winter has more than 70,000 copies. In 1999, together with Cannibal Corpse, Marduk and Napalm Death, Immortal performed at the influential Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. Over the years, Emperor, Dark Funeral, Ensiferum, and Gorgoroth participated. The following year, the band signed a contract with the more famous German label “Nuclear Blast”, which released the albums “Damned in Black” and “Sons of Norhtern Darkness”.
In 2002, the group broke up, but in 2006 resumed concert activities, and in the spring of 2009 released a new album. Along with such Norwegian bands as Darkthrone and
"Immortal" had a serious impact on the development of the musical genre of metal. The band is considered one of the best in the world of black metal.
