He began his creative activity in 1964 as an assistant director of the Munich Chamber Theatre. However, due to political views, he was forced to leave the theater, after which he worked for several years in various theaters in Zurich and Bremen.
In 1970 he became the founder of his own theater "Shaubune" in West Berlin, which was the beginning of the creative ascent of the young talented director. In his work, Peter Stein followed the traditions of Russian classical theater, using many of Stanislavsky’s techniques. At the same time, on the stage of the Berlin “Shaubune” performances were staged based on such famous classical works of Russian writers as “Mother”, “Optimistic Tragedy”, “Three Sisters”, “Cherry Orchard”.
With the growth of popularity, the director received a huge number of invitations to productions in various theaters not only in Germany, but also in other countries. Since 1986 he has been actively working abroad, creating masterpieces of theatrical art. Of the most striking productions of Peter Stein, with triumph held on the stages of Russian theaters, we can note the performances “Hamlet”, “The Seagull” and “Orestey”, in addition, the works of the talented director applauded the audience of France, Greece, Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands. /
