Mikhail Vladimirovich Leontiev was born on October 12, 1958 in Moscow. In 1979 he graduated from Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy, Faculty of General Economics. After graduation he worked at the Research Institute.
In 1985, he resigned from the Research Institute and graduated from vocational training, receiving the specialty “journalist – cabinetmaker”. After that he worked in the Literary Museum as a handyman, was a watchman at the dacha of Boris Pasternak, was engaged in tutoring on history.
In 1987, Mikhail became interested in sociology and wrote several analytical articles, after which he completely devoted himself to this occupation.
In 1989, Leontiev began working as a correspondent of the political department of the newspaper Kommersant. A year later he headed the economic department of the Nezavisimaya Gazeta. In 1993 he participated in the organization of the newspaper "Today", and after its creation took the post of deputy editor-in-chief.
Since April 1997, Leontiev became the host of the TV program “Really” on the TV Center channel. From 1997 to 1998 he was the author of the program “Seventh Day” on the same channel. Since 1999, he moved to work on the ORT channel and became the host of the “However” program.
From 1999 to 2000, Leontiev was the editor-in-chief of the weekly FAS.
In 2001-2002 he worked on the program “Other time”. Since 2003 he has created the author’s program “Puppet Theater with Mikhail Leontiev”. Since 2006 he has been conducting the program “Master Class with Mikhail Leontiev”.
On May 22, 2007 he became the editor-in-chief of the journal Profile. In 2007 he released the project “Big Game” on ORT. In 2009, he began to publish the journal “Odnako” together with Nevzorov and Dodolev.
He is a laureate of the Golden Pen of Russia award and a nominee of the TEFI-1997 award. He has written several books, such as The Inner Enemy. Defeating elite ruins Russia (2005), “However, goodbye” (2005), “Is Russia threatened by the Orange revolution” (2005), “Farewell to liberalism” (2005), “However, hello!” (2005).
Currently, Michael has a second marriage, his wife is named Maria, they have a daughter. From the first marriage with the poetess and philologist Natalia Azarova, there are two children: son Dmitry and daughter Elena, two grandchildren.
