Christian Dior is a great French designer, along with the brilliant Coco Chanel and the outstanding Hubert de Givenchy who became a legend of the XX century.
He was born in 1905 on January 21 on the northern coast of France (the fishing port of Granville), to 40 years later publicly announce to the world a new trend of fashion - the concept of New Look, which inscribed his name in gold ink on the pages of world fashion history. And before that there was a cloudless childhood, the opening of an art gallery with the works of Matisse and Picasso instead of a diplomatic career (1928), the death of his mother and the bankruptcy of his father (1931), the first successes in the fashion field and military service (1938), work for Lucien Lelong (1941), the creation of the perfume laboratory Christian Dior Perfume (1942) and the opening of his own fashion house Christian Dior (1946).
First of all, Christian Dior created dresses and costumes, feminine and sophisticated. His concept of the “New Bow” revolutionized military robes and coats from the everyday style of women recovering from the horrors of war. Focused on the waist, emphasizing the silhouette with a soft shoulder line and sleeves-kimono, resembling inverted flower crowns, Christian Dior’s clothes became a milestone in the history of fashion and defined the special style of the Dior fashion house.
In addition to the famous New Look, Dior thought out new silhouettes and collections, giving them names - Muguet ("Landy"), Corolle ("Wreather"), Vertieale. He also owns the idea of flat look, when the line of the hips and shoulders is the same width. This collection appeared in 1954. The following year, Dior introduced the Y silhouette, in which the main emphasis was placed on the shoulders. He also owns the popularization of the silhouette line A or “trapezia” (the collection came out after the death of the maestro).
Dior was the first to apply the idea of licensing: various accessories, perfumes and cosmetics began to be produced under the Dior brand. On other continents, there were workshops and shops bearing the Christian Dior trademark. Christian Dior did not limit his activities only to modern fashion: he sewed costumes for theatrical productions (the play “School of Backbiting” at the Teatro de Mathurin), films by Alfred Hitchcock and Claude Otan-Lara, created stage images of Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf.
Unfortunately, the biography of Christian Dior ends on December 24, 1957: the great couturier died of a heart attack. His work was continued by eminent designers of the twentieth century - Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre. In October 1996, Christian Dior was headed by John Galliano, who served as creative director until March 2011.
Today, under the Christian Dior brand, in addition to clothes and shoes, bags (the classic of the genre – the Lady Dior bag of 1990), glasses and watches, cosmetics and perfumes are produced. Christian Dior advertising is always full of faces of celebrities, including Marion Cotillard (Lady Dior bag), Sharon Stone (Dior cosmetics, Capture Totale line), Sherlize Theron (J'adore perfume), Monica Bellucci (Dior Hypnotic Poison perfume), Kate Moss (Dior Addict be Iconic lipstick), Eva Green (Dior Midnight Poison perfume), Natalie Portman (Missss Dior Cherie perfume), Jude Law (Dior Homme Sport fragrance) and Alain Delon (Sa Dior Euvor).
Christian Dior perfumes are worth mentioning separately. The Christian Dior brand has enriched the world of beauty with such masterpieces as Miss Dior (the first known fragrance of the great couturier) and its modern version of Miss Dior Cherie, Diorissimo (the first synthesized fragrance with a clear note of lily) and fresh male Eau Sauvage, sensual Dioressence and intoxicating Poison. The fragrances Fahrenheit (1988) for men, Dune (1991), Dolce Vita (1995), J’Adore (1999) and Dior Addict (2002) for women – a whole army of fans, enthusiastically welcoming the emergence of new versions of these perfumes.
