Jerzy Hoffman is a very famous Polish film producer, director, actor and screenwriter. Jerzy was born in the family of a doctor on March 15, 1932 in Krakow, Poland. In 1940 he was taken to Siberia and returned to Poland after the end of World War II. In 1955 he received a diploma of graduation from VGIK (Moscow). The film called “Hooligans”, directed by him in the same year together with Jerzy Skuzzewski (and received the prize of Polish film criticism), became the debut of the future director.

Jerzy Hoffman is a very famous Polish film producer, director, actor and screenwriter. Jerzy was born in the family of a doctor on March 15, 1932 in Krakow, Poland. In 1940 he was taken to Siberia and returned to Poland after the end of World War II. In 1955 he received a diploma of graduation from VGIK (Moscow). The film called “Hooligans”, directed by him in the same year together with Jerzy Skuzzewski (and received the prize of Polish film criticism), became the debut of the future director. In collaboration with the same Skuzhevsky, Jerzy created in the 50s and early 60s as many as twenty-seven documentaries, including Souvenir from Calvaria, Children Accused, Two Faces of God and Lovitskaya Carousel, which were awarded numerous awards at film festivals in Moscow, Oberhausen, Krakow, Brussels and Munich. The creative union of Hoffman and Skuzzewski bore many fruits, in 1964 they made their debut in the field of feature films, producing the film “Gangsters and Philanthropists” (prize of the Minister of Culture and Art of the third degree). They made such films as The Law and the Fist in 1964 and Three Steps on the Earth in 1965.
A little later, Jerzy independently began to implement the project on the adaptation of the third part of the famous historical trilogy of Henryk Senkevich “Pan Volodyevsky”. He worked on this film for two years. And it so happened that even before the picture was released, thanks to the voluminous discussion of it in the press, it became an event of cultural life, and its demonstration gathered a huge number of viewers. In 1974, a new adaptation of Hoffman was released - a film based on the novel by G. Senkevich.
Flood. It was also highly appreciated by both the public and experts. In 1999, Jerzy finished work on his project called
"Fire and sword." (the film was the completion of many years and time-consuming work of the director) and transferred the classic images of the Polish historical novel to the screens. As the actor starred in four films (in three of which he played himself), he played in two as a narrator. He has been an honorary citizen of Bydgoszcz since 2003.
