Kim Yong Ok's career began in 1959 when she joined the Chungcheong Broadcasting Station (currently KBS Main Broadcasting Bureau in Chungcheon) as an announcer, and in the following 1960 she joined CBS as a voice actor for the 6th broadcasting period in Chungcheon. In 1961, she officially debuted as a voice actor in MBC's first film, Gongchae, and in 1969 she first appeared in the MBC television drama. She is one of the leading Korean actors who has been active non-stop since her debut. In 2004, she was nicknamed "Halminham" for a scene in which she argued with a greedy grandmother on KBS 2TV's "The Diary of an Old Maiden."
