Holzen Ridge's deadbeat A group of young people traveling through America comes to a remote area called Holzen Ridge, where he stays in a local provincial motel, the owner of which looks exceptionally strange. The guys do not yet know that this hotel is a refuge for a maniac who wears a pilot's helmet and loves to have fun with uninvited guests.
The tape of Franklin Guerrero Jr. in its plot and content, it seems, is similar to everything at once: a remote area, an old motel - well, what is not the perfect setting for a slasher? Torture committed by a maniac - a kind of hello 'Hostel' Elijah Rota. From the fact that in the frame very often plays the same very eating into the brain song, involuntarily recalled ' Jeepers Creepers' (although in ' Carver', there is nothing otherworldly and mystical), and the fact that the maniac in addition to, in fact, the murders of his victims and also shoots a snuff film, also previously figured somewhere.
Another thing is that all these conventions and borrowings don’t make Guerrero’s film bad. Rather, the disadvantages he adds only technical nuances, talking and budget shortage. For example, the actors here, although they try to play, but they do not always succeed, and the movie itself is shot in very dark colors - it is sometimes simply difficult to watch it, and in some cases frankly painful. But there is a picture and a number of advantages.
Firstly, this is the image of a maniac - he is very original. Of course, before that, there were slashers, where fat men acted as murderers - to recall the same ' Slaughter' but here the maniac himself also wears a pilot's helmet, arranges ingenious traps for victims and generally extremely inventively approaches the process of killing, using a whole arsenal of improvised tools, even nails: here you can still recall Tobe Hooper's masterpiece slasher ' Nightmare at home on the hills' (in the original - ' Murder with tools'
).
Secondly, whatever you say, the atmosphere of the creepy American outback is the best suited for this kind of cinema, and the authors understand this perfectly. The tape is perfect for fans of all sorts of horrors and thrillers about rednecks, and according to the color it is still a real tracing from the remake ' Texas Chainsaw Massacre' only here the creators had much less money to implement their ideas.
'The Ripper' - a good overall slasher, made by fans 'Hostel' and 'Texas Massacre' for fans, in fact, of the same films. The original image of a maniac, many scenes of violence and nudity, the atmosphere ' backyard of America' is what it is worth watching for.
