French charm degenerates into boredom. French comedies have a special atmosphere and are always associated with something light, pleasant and uplifting. Beyond the Bed is not without traditional French charm. This is a lyrical comedy, with a philosophical focus, which has in its arsenal not the worst acting, dear to my heart music and visually pleasant picture. But for all its charm, there's nothing more to look for, I'm afraid. Otherwise, this is a very boring and sometimes absurd movie. Perhaps because the film is more female, and at times completely reminiscent of the ravings of a militant feminist. The whole film is obsessed with gender responsibilities, and gives the impression that family life consists only of obligations. In addition, the film feels a clear lack of seriousness and unreality of the story. Many things that heroes allow themselves, from the point of view of common sense, are completely irrational. It is striking how our hero - the head of large companies, at the simple whim of his wife, agrees to her candidacy to replace himself in office, thereby putting his company at unreasonable risk. Well, what healthy man, having his own business, will allow a wife-housewife, without forcing serious circumstances, to replace himself in business?
To all the above mentioned disadvantages in the film: at times caught the feminist mood of the picture, a primitive view of life (stuck strongly on gender responsibilities), not the plausibility of the motives that pushed the characters to such a radical change of roles, you can add a few incomprehensible moments with betrayal and clearly unnecessary love line of the third character. As a result, the number of negative moments in the picture is clearly the predominant number, French charm does not save this situation, and the cinema degenerates into boredom after 1/4. All this put “Beyond the Bed” in my eyes in a bad light, and did not allow me to attribute it to positively rated films. In my opinion, the film turned out to be below average, and therefore even five I feel sorry for it, only:
