Green Elephant: disgust, laughter, genius, nostalgia.
In this review, I will not tell you about when and where the film The Green Elephant appeared. If you are interested, you can easily find out all the information about this film on the Internet. In the same review, I will explain to myself what I see behind the curtain of the Green Elephant, what is hiding there in the depths? I warn in advance that the author’s opinion may not coincide with the opinion of others.
So let's start with the fact that I've seen the movie Green Elephant four times. I first encountered him two and a half years ago. I watched for the night and I admit I couldn’t stand it. He suffered to 'bloody scene'. Then I got more disgust than pleasure. The next time I watched the film, I laughed at the first part of Green Elephant, specifically, the dialogues, which we will talk about later. And then I got positive emotions from the film. For the third time, I decided to watch the film in full seriousness, began to think about the meaning of this film, sensibly assessed everything in the film. Well, the last time I saw the picture was just recently, more for nostalgia than for something profound. I was not disgusted by anything.
These four views of Green Elephant can be broken down into four parts: disgust, laughter, genius, nostalgia. I'll take each part in order. So why do you get disgusted with this movie? Well, first of all, it's the manner of shooting. There is no professional cameraman, he was shot on a cheap camera, at one point we can hear a laugh or a cameraman or a director. But in any case, if you like to watch high-quality films, then this film will amaze you a little. Of course, you can write off the old age of the film, but the film is not so old. If you want HD, you won’t get it by watching it. Then there's the plot. To many, it will seem strange. Very much. There are no famous actors here (Epifantsev did not even know then), plus they are not professional. There is not much variety in terms of the environment. There's no professionalism here. You can also be scared off by shocking and disgusting scenes of feces, rape and murder. That’s what kept me from watching the movie for the first time.
Next, laughter. What would make such a movie laugh? It's, of course, acting. She’s believable, and that makes you smile. Take at least Yepifantsev, shouting from anger and hatred. This is what most of us look like when we get angry. Next, the groin. What he does in the movie is ridiculous from the start. When you go through the path of disgust, you laugh at a crazy person. Indeed, the groin seems psychotic. A real psycho. It's not the Joker, and it's not another badass from some cool blockbuster. It really is ' went '. What a dialogue. This is what causes a wave of laughter for those who are beginning to get acquainted with the film. I won’t even describe them, they just need to be heard.
Genius can be described for a long time. Philosophy, religion, revolution. But it's just a movie about life. The life of a man who couldn't stand it. Who succumbed to another. Who's gone mad. And by and large, the film shows us. Weak, insignificant, amenable to others.
Nostalgia can only be experienced through the other stages, and here I want to summarize. What the movie told us is don’t give up, even if you’re crazy and stupid. Maybe you are.
I can tell you one thing: it’s not even a movie. I would like to continue in poetry, but there is no inspiration. This movie changed my life, oddly enough, for the better. No, I didn't go. I read books, write poems, get the second highest. But this movie ... basically taught me to laugh at the things I always hated and despised, even the things I feared. Sergei Pakhomov is a genius. This is how to play the role of a blissful psychopath, without being a professional actor, probably only a blissful psychopath.
Meaning of the movie? It's simple and clear to me. No need for conspiracy theories, they say that the film is a metaphorical depiction of the Russian revolution ... no, no, everything is much simpler. This film is not about the army and not about Russia (although everyone sees his own), it is a film about the weakness of man. Remember how Chekhov has it in 'Chamber #6' 'We are weak, crappy we... .'
The hero of Epifantsev against the background of Pakhom seems like a kind of wolf. He is stronger, smarter, more aggressive and much more resilient. The groin, in turn, is a completely unviable creature. An adult man with the intellect of a child and a dislocated psyche, it is not clear how he received the rank of officer.
And here begins the most interesting thing: between the heroes of the confrontation. More precisely, the confrontation is only in the eyes of Epifantsev, and in the eyes of Pakhom, on the contrary, friendship. Epifantsev puts pressure on his cellmate psychologically, humiliates him, intimidates him, then beats him. And what can a fool against a full-fledged vicious person? Something might! Without suspecting it, Pakhom in the middle of the film transforms into a monster, completely harmless, but carrying a terrible danger to the psyche of Epifantsev. And the one who used to revel in his strength is beating in hysteria, unable to cope with a man soiled in excrement. The weakest is the strongest, and the only one survives in the end.
'The Green Elephant' is by no means a serious movie: anyone who takes it seriously goes mad. This is the standard of thrash, full of merry idiocy, delirium and juicy black humor. I genuinely laugh as I watch the episode of Pachom's failed attempt to feed Brother ' Sweet Bread' I’m laughing because there’s nothing really wrong with the screen. But try to imagine yourself in the place of Epifantsev. . .
You can start with the fact that this film is slightly different from all the others, there are no special effects, that beauty, this is not your favorite film that you eat so appetizingly in your theaters, without thinking about the fact that you are fed “sweet bread”, which was baked only to earn you a small amount, and most often this “bread”, and you so willingly eat it does not carry any semantic load.
The same film makes you think... What would have happened to me? If I were in the same cell as a madman. What would I do? Would I last longer than Epifantsev? I guess not. I am still under pressure that I have no more than a day to live, and how can I not go mad?
The film is a kind of protest and all the hostages of our system who do not want to put up with it should watch this film.
For the rest of us who care about 86 minutes of their lives, but who spend their lives on more important things, like sitting on a VK or listening to some shitty track, I will not recommend this film.
In the early eighties, a modest, intelligent man broke into the Russian litigation process, who amazed everyone with a collection of stories. Each story began as a talented stylization for one of the classic trends of Russian or Soviet literature, and ended with a lawlessness of a completely non-artistic kind. The collection of stories was called “The First Saturday.” Thus was born the great Russian classic – Vladimir Sorokin.
At the end of the nineties, a pretty, young woman appeared in the Russian film process, works that were related to either cinema, or video art, or the inflamed fantasies of a sick woman. Guro, feces, mate through the word, necrophilia and homosexual perversions are constant companions of the works of the former artist. The artist's name was Svetlana Baskova.
Opus magnum Baskova can be regarded as a kind of intersection of the style and aesthetics of the two classics. I suspect not obvious to both of them. Green Elephant is tolerant of many and many interpretations, but its main charm is in this transfer of the Fortyino form on the screen. Which, of course, is primarily not copro, homo and obscene vocabulary. This is the transformation of a classically constructed work into a tragedy of the absurd. When the movie gets bigger than itself. When the creator brings his offspring to such a degree of inadequacy that he is unable to keep it within the given limits. Then the creation begins to tear itself from the inside and ends, as a famous Ukrainian boxer would say, with what ends.
It is tempting to see the great Russian revolution as it should look. Not the degeneration the Creacles tried to impose on us. But no. Unfortunately, no. Baskova, using the example of two officers, shows to what degree of moral decay a person can descend. The viewer is used to the fact that in order to break the military, you need to lead him through the hell of war. Through sweat, tears, blood, Kidnapping, Femenistes with Kalash and homeless with shotguns. That a person breaks down through a truly high drama, pouring the last shots with blood and tears. Such artists work with brushes. Baskova left her brushes in a past life. Now she wields a halberd stained in the shit, sperm and menstrual blood of virgins. Therefore, in her films, the characters lose their minds, cleaning the toilet with a fork and what kind of plate. Because the Army isn't about Saving Private Ryan, or even All Metal Shell. The army is the Green Elephant. There is no place for heroes and no place for cowards. There is no place for man here.
Green Elephant is a loud anti-militarist statement. The manifesto is not so much against war as against the army in principle. Which not only stupefies and humiliates people, but also cynically tramples out of normal life, throwing a person on its sidelines. Leaving only the chase and torn testicles in the teeth.
Black, in all its glory. Svetlana Baskova did the impossible, she just turned everything human that was in the characters, she so sharply showed the inconsistency of human relations that it even becomes scary, besides, let’s not forget, the action takes place in a closed space, and it is better to go crazy with someone than alone.
Very realistic scenery, and emotions are even more realistic, I am a big fan of Vladimir Epifantsev and saw this film. his acting skills began to please me even more.
Tresh, that's all. The film is not for everyone and not for everyone, but every film has a place to be, after watching the ZS you can safely watch the wedding vase, so, dare.

This film was forgotten forever, but thanks to the Internet and schoolchildren, it gained solid fame. And not by chance, because every phrase of the film can be quoted constantly.
It’s hard to believe, but this film has its own philosophy, although it’s hard to find. In this film, it is said that a normal person will turn into a psychopath if he goes gray with a psycho, and this can not be avoided. There are also four types of insanity. Pakhomov's character is a type of super stupid. Maslaev's character is a type of crazy old man. Osmolovsky's character is the type of navel of the earth who thinks he's smart and everyone is stupid. Well, Epifantsev’s character is a type of distraught person who has gone mad for a certain situation. In this film, from bullying the lip staff, and from communicating with a complete fool. But who among the intellectuals will look for meaning in this picture?
What could be good about this picture? First of all, this is an acting game, because here it is at an incredible high level. In particular, we can highlight the acting of Pakhomov and Epifantsev, because they play like in life. And it's good that it's not a comedy, but a black woman with signs of drama. Yes, and in general, the actors in this film play even better than in the film Gorky (2013). Then there are monologues and dialogues, which were divided into quotes. All of them are pleasurable, for they contain overwhelming amounts of volume, madness, and mat. For without mat, the black man looks dull. However, my favorite phrase that does not contain mate is: “I am a colonel!” Well, so the film can be taught history, because the character Osmolovsky will talk about the tragedy at Pearl Harbor.
Of the things you might not like, there are two. The first is a moment of great need. The second is a bloody, same-sex, necrophilic orgy. These are the two things that spoil the film. And that's why I can't get the highest score.
And so the film is a masterpiece among the arthouse black.
As a lover of the horror genre, sooner or later I had to watch this... (the word “film” should be here, but the language does not turn so that is what “Green Elephant” is). So I decided not to pull the cat by the tail for a long time and actually looked.
According to the stories of friends, reviews, and even just the description, it is immediately clear that we have a very unusual picture in the genre of thrash. But not as much thrash as we could see in "The Sucked Victim" or "The Slaughter of the Sucking Puppets," and another, I will call it "Russian" thrash. The main action in “Elephant” consists mainly of dialogues, which characterize the genre of the tape. The poor quality of the video only highlights its immorality.
However, at the same time, these dialogues are catchy, something that only a Russian person can understand. Everyone will find something for themselves. Who served in the army, will find something to remember from the time of service, who was in prison, accordingly remember his.
It is worth noting that not everyone can understand the meaning of the picture. It's definitely not for everyone. Surely fans of thrash, "Green Elephant" will taste, as it contains violence, and bloody moments, and incomprehensible scenes. But the rest are unlikely to watch even to the middle.
I’m not going to judge the actors here because it’s hard to judge what isn’t there. In fact, there is hardly a thrash in which it would be possible to at least somehow evaluate the actors. We can separately note one of the characters, namely the “healthy” officer at the beginning, who, together with the viewer, begins to slowly go crazy. I liked this character strangely, at least until he went crazy.
Someone will like Green Elephant, someone will turn it off after the first ten minutes of viewing, but in any case, this picture has become a kind of household name, a lot of memes on the Internet, and a lot of catchphrases. This is more than a movie, but to appreciate it, you need to be a biased viewer. I am not that, so I will leave this creation of Russian cinema without evaluation.
To say that the film is sadistic is to say nothing. All screen time is filled with swearing feces and intestines. All this we are offered to swallow under the guise of refined art. Frightened by "Salom or 120 Days of Sodom" will recount "how brutal the Nazis were." There are no fascists here, think two idiots sitting on their lip arguing about something. No, gentlemen of film lovers and film critics! It's not a movie, it's just a videotaped cheapie. Not to mention that the meaning of this video is completely absent.
Without a doubt, Green Elephant is an epic movie! Even people who did not like him, who consider him terrible, vile, disgusting, stupid, delusional, talentless, dull, disgusting, recognize his uniqueness.
What is the uniqueness?! The uniqueness is that only in this film such moments as:
- Love for the Motherland
- Friendship
- Military service
- Stories from youth
- Knowledge of the history of domestic and foreign
- Family values
... and much more. Tell me, there is none of this! Liar! Perhaps you didn’t see it, because for you, the sweet bread, the stories from Pachom about the fool and port 777 were in the forefront. But if you watch the film two or even three times, you begin to understand that Svetlana Baskova is a genius!
Baskova managed to touch on so many moments, so many aspects of our life, from which you can not escape, seasoning the whole thing with entertaining replicas and excellent acting, which is worth the character of Epifantsev at least.
The movie has long been a cult movie. The phrases are scattered over quotes. And these are not the fictional thoughts of Joker, Statham and others. Everything here is concrete and clear. Since most of them will not miss the censorship of the site, I will list the most innocuous, since “you need to know this, this is a classic...” (by the way, the first quote is something)
"To work!", "I'm a colonel on a white horse!", "Salute ... in our honor!", "Go under the stream wash!", "I'll tell you now, the lump will get up, then we'll be here ... Malaph everything ..." Yes, this is all “Green Elephant”, it was shot in Russia, we can be proud of it.
The Haters won't understand! What to be proud of?! How proud?! I'll explain.
The West no longer knows what to shoot. There they shove and zoophilia, and necromancy, and pedophilia, and incest, and slash, and snuff, and everything else.
Western filmmakers are trying to shock people with their films. Remember how many times you were promised “The scariest film”, which eventually turned out to be a primitive “Paranormal phenomenon” or “Astral”?
How many times was written – “film-shock!”, and in the end we got some dull Spanish “The Capture”, alas, this time without Uncle Seagal as Casey Raibeck.
And a simple Russian woman, Svetlana Baskova, took and shot on an amateur video camera, for 2.5 kopecks a film where you and grin, and shock, and laughter, and meaning, and great acting. I am sure that the Western viewer, when he sees this creation, will say with complete confidence: “Yes, I have never seen such a thing...”
What the meaning of this phrase will be (positive or negative) is not so important, because the main mission of the film will be fulfilled - it will surprise, leave a mark and will not disappear from memory.
This film served as the basis for many remixes of various songs. Many online reviewers owe this film, because largely thanks to it they were promoted on YouTube, for example.

I didn’t learn about this movie in the 2000s, but in 2011. The film was called “The Dirtiest Movie of the Millennium,” and rightly so. And the film was shot on an amateur film, or a video camera, which even goes plus to the film, despite the quality. In the film there is obscene language, but I do not even know whether to praise the film or not.
The atmosphere in the film is well set, because the film takes place in a guardhouse, where officers are clearly not greeted with a joyful smile and are not taken to a cell where warm cells with hot cakes. In this guardhouse got two officers for his faults, one officer talks to the second officer, telling stories from his life, the second officer at first amused, but later runs out of patience and beats him.
Yes, and the cast pleased with their game that take for example Pakhomov and Epifantsev. Not only can you admire their play, but you can also quote their phrases.
People watching the movie either laughed or laughed. But there are also people who didn’t like this film, I want to say that there is nothing wrong with it (except mats and “breadmaking”) and I advise those who haven’t seen it yet, but I don’t recommend watching it for children, pregnant and faint of heart. This is a good movie.
The Russian people have always been famous for their maximalism. Therefore, it is not surprising that when “our” decided to make a film-challenge in the genre of art house – it turned out really the dirtiest, blackest and most terrible example of this (fashionable nowadays) direction in art. And surprisingly, this is what – such a tough, uncompromising, nauseating nightmare was created by a very sweet, intelligent and pretty woman who had previously been engaged in painting (like one of the actors – Sergey Pakhomov). What prompted her to leave her path, to leave rich and clean Europe for unclean and impoverished Russia and to make the “dirtyst film of the millennium”?
The answer lies on the surface - the squashing and rampant decline of the rulers, the collapse of society, the moral degradation of the population and other attributes characteristic of the Russian Federation of the 90s. In my opinion, the film would not have worked at all if not for the “zeitgeist” that saturates every frame. I do not undertake to assess the artistic merits of the film (which we will discuss later), but it seems to me that Svetlana Baskova could not have kept the work within the framework of nauseating horror for 90 minutes, given the abundance of violent scenes (which the cinema has not yet seen) without the above factor.
As for the technical side - at first glance, it is rather inexpressive - all the action of the film, shot on an amateur video camera, takes place in one room, where the tragic death of all the characters is played out, except for the most stupid, weak and peaceful, who unfortunately remains alive. For an hour and a half of screen time, the viewer can see the complete disappearance of the heroes of the human face and their transformation into real devils, mercilessly killing, humiliating (and even) raping each other.
It makes no sense to describe everything that happens on the screen. It is worth noting only that in the midst of all the impenetrable, paranoid, hellish nightmare lasting 86 minutes, once there is a light ray. After the scene of the suicide of the hero Epifantsev, we can see (for a very short time) - a flock of birds freely soaring to the sounds of the organ against a background of (imperceptibly) black sky. Moreover, it seemed to me that this character is the only positive character in the film. But on the other hand, it is difficult to call a positive person (sic!), who kills his commander, punches him in the anus, after which he tears the ribbed esophagus tube out of his body with his teeth and makes his fellow serviceman blow into it, making inarticulate sounds that remotely resemble an elephant’s cry. However, throughout the film, he struggles the longest to preserve the remnants of his mind and not “fucking me.” But, at the moment when he realizes that after all he too "got" - immediately decides to die.
What is amazing is that the picture rose from the ashes many years after the filming itself, thanks to the rapid development of the Internet. Instantly, this undisputed masterpiece has become one of the most popular, watched and commented Russian films of recent years. What makes him attractive? His rudeness, immorality and vulgarity, from centuries of attracting the masses? Or is it still the “spirit of the times” – a representation of the theater of rigidity, absurdity and insanity, which continues to this day?
In fact, it should be said that Green Elephant, one of the few films that hit not only the soul (and not in the best sense), but also have an almost physical effect on the entire body, making the viewer with every cell of his body turn away from the terrible reality that... unfortunately is part of our lives.
In conclusion, it should not be assumed that the film is characteristic only of its time. Only men die; evil is immortal.
I don't even know where to start. Not to describe the feeling when you have long been familiar with art house and to approach the review is very scary, given the film itself. After all, I owe a lot to him, the crew, the writer, and other figures who took an active part in the creation of this creation. Having gathered my thoughts, I can say that it is definitely worth describing the first feeling after watching. You'll never feel that way. Many people claim that they perceived this film as a documentary, and then wrote an angry article about the situation in the Russian army, but I can say for myself - I did not think about it, taking the video as a given. My mind was completely immersed in the film. I am still amazed that such a deep film could be made from us! A film that can instantly change a person’s life and his attitude to the world. Undoubtedly, many will say that this film is disgusting and dirty - they will be right in some ways, but if it stinks of feces from everywhere, then did you, excuse me, make a mistake?
Throughout the film, the viewer sees the man gradually going mad. It's so ingenious and so horrific at the same time that you don't realize if you're crazy. It is simply impossible to convey the mood of this work until you see what is happening on the screen. And, in the end, you don’t believe your eyes, not understanding how to go beyond the box and make a completely unscrupulous movie! And it turns out, dear friends, it is very possible and Baskov confirmation. Especially the film was made by a woman and it seems to me that when I remember the great figures of this sex, instead of another mention of Sophia Kovalevskaya and Maria Curie, I will say Svetlana Baskova and I will never go wrong in this.

It is very sad that this film has received negative reviews. Of course, if you see the truth, it becomes incredibly vile, right?
I do not want to condemn the housewives who visit this resource, and extremely short-sighted people. It is the fact that you give a bad rating just because you didn’t understand the film that makes me write this review. And osers like 'Green Elephant is pure garbage, which (thank God) was not allowed on the big screen.' just terrified me.
Let’s start with the simple – correcting your bluntness, I want to note that if you have at least a minimum of abstract thinking and even a little tried to comprehend this film, then you would in no case come to the conclusion that this is 'pure garbage'.
The plot is simple: Two servicemen are sitting in a guardhouse. As already noted, all this is accompanied by censorship dialogue, which, despite its humorous component, tells about the difficult fate of one of the main characters, and is the key to understanding the whole film. The image of the army is the Soviet Union. The country of bosses, certificates, lawlessness and rudeness, the victim of which is the same character Pachom. Then comes psychological pressure on the viewer, allegorically emphasizes the censorship component of socialist society. A man is worth nothing - 'Going to work...shit clean.'... and lots of rude remarks.
Even the ending of the film can be explained: in this chaos of ignorance and universal duty, all the characters just went crazy, which openly condemns the ideas of a totalitarian society. The way it is served will never be available to housewives. I add that it is a pity that we have not yet left this, and if we have left, we return hastily. The film is excellent.
When everyone started talking about a certain movie walking on the expanses of the Runet that it is so “wonderful” and inadequate – I wanted to find out what kind of film this is. There are a lot of memes and video/audio pranks on the subject, but how do you make sense of them if you haven’t seen the source? This is the reason why I decided to see this book.
Now an opinion. The film was funny in the beginning, serious in the middle, and in the end creepy and crazy. I was told that there are such films a la “human centipede”, but the centipede did not even lie next to this film. It describes the life of the army of that time, all the characters seem real and in general, an amateur camera allows you to think that this is all really happening. Of course, the film leaves an ambiguous trail after watching, and what will be this trail depends only on the viewer.
Maybe this film will one day become a classic in its genre?
Without the internet, I wouldn’t know what it is. On TV, this is clearly not to be missed, and on the expanses of the network, I often saw photo toads, etc. pictures with some men, met on the forums all sorts of phrases about some “Sweet bread, a kurlik” but I did not understand what kind of “Green Elephant” is? And then one day I decided to watch it.
“Mother, why did I watch this?” I asked after watching. Because the scenes with coprophilia (I don’t know if it was real humm or not) and necrophilia (it’s definitely not true) make your face twist in disgust and immediately turn off. But I decided to act on the principle of a chess player, i.e. touched - finish. That's how I watched this creation.
Well, what can I say... Treshak as he is. Hellish thrashak, cruel cruel, I do not deny that there is some deep philosophical meaning to the film, but, God, how nasty it is in places. But in some places it is very rusty.
Cinema search:
A large number of scenes and phrases from the film with the participation of Pakhomov’s character became Internet memes, were used as the basis for web comics, phototoads and humorous videos published on the YouTube website, and a phrase from the film Brother! I've brought you some food" has gained some fame.
This is a lie, I protest! Much more phrases have received some fame, but I cannot give them as an example, because then this review will not pass censorship. The first part, where Pakhom talks with Epifantsev, can make you smile, this is where most memes came from, although, I repeat, they are all mostly obscene and obscene.
This film rather causes a sense of shame after watching" (c) Epifantsev about the film.
Brother, I would say to him, don’t be ashamed! This is your best role! That's a funny moment, by the way. On YouTube, there is not a single film or excerpt with the participation of Epifantsev, in the comments to which there would be no references to “Green Elephant”.
In general, if you are not afraid of black and vulgar humor - watch the first half boldly, and then coprophilia begins, after it another funny scene (Ah, boss, this p*daras shits*, go wash it - I will not sit here with him!!!), then the lecture of the general follows, well, and then there is a psychedelic that pregnant and faint-hearted do not watch.
So -- fifty by fifty. On the one hand, I like it, on the other, I don’t understand how to justify it. Feelings mixed... But at least this film will remain memic forever.

Strappon is said to have been used in the blowjob scene. I hope that's true.
And here we are sitting here with you, like two fuffles. This is my favorite quote from the movie.
The Green Elephant.
I never thought that I would ever want to write a review of this creation. I got to know him about a year ago when my classmates started mentioning this movie quite often. I'm a movie fan! How can they see something before me? And so, briefly sluggish, I decided to see a picture that I will hardly forget.
I don't know where to start. Probably, to say that this film is not quite ordinary, means nothing to say, because the film at least somehow similar to this can be counted on the fingers. I don’t know for good or for bad. So, a little bit about the plot. The film begins with two junior officers sitting in a cell in a guardhouse and a conversation begins between them. It is worth noting that one of them, how to say it, is not like the others. His stories begin to slowly but surely infuriate the second officer, who tries in every way to silence his annoying interlocutor, he resorts from harmless requests to violence and yelling. I liked this comedy part of the movie. Exactly, comedy, because otherwise than a hard uncensored comedy I will not call this part.
Well, the second part is nothing more than... I don’t even know what it is. Art house? Thrash? Or both, along with a bunch of labels invented by pseudo-gourmets and movie connoisseurs. For me, this is just a wild fantasy and absurdity that the director invented and directed. A viewer who hasn’t seen the movie will probably ask, “What’s so-and-so?” Well, the second part of the film is filled with violence, blood, same-sex sexual acts and more. I don’t think anyone will be able to tell you exactly what the second part of the film is about, not God, not even the director (I think so). I am a normal person and I, like many people, did not like the second half of the tape very much, and I will never review it again. And here I will quite agree with those who think that it would be better not to shoot this half an hour at all. But there is one thing I will never agree with.
I strongly disagree with those who believe that the people who made this creation have a place in the madhouse. You know, there's a great movie, People vs. Larry Flint, where it says that if people aren't allowed to express themselves, we're going to stop living in a free state and we're going to corner ourselves with endless prohibitions. I didn’t like Green Elephant for the most part, but I did like to know that it had a right to exist, and that only I could decide whether it was a good movie or a bad one. And statements like: “actors would rather star in the dirtiest porn”, or “the director should be put in a mental hospital forever”, in my opinion, made by people limited and even stupid, because you roughly knew what you were going to see, and then, no one forced you to watch everything to the end. I will repeat and say that I do not consider this film to be profound, let alone brilliant, but I believe that it is needed, at least as proof that we live in a free country where people with their views are not trampled and are not exiled to Siberia, for example.
Let me say a few words about the atmosphere. She's just hopeless and disgusting. If the director wanted to create such a depressing, depressing reality, then he managed to do it for 100. As you watch it, you get the feeling that the film was shot on a phone with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. And as it was said in one review, the second part of the film takes the brain out and throws into a stupor not individual scenes of caprophilia or something else specific, the disgust comes from the whole picture as a whole. In other words, the director created an atmosphere of the strongest hopelessness without a single ray of hope for a successful outcome, but again I do not know whether to put Baskova for these efforts plus or minus. I think it is rather a minus, because art should enlighten and develop spiritually, and not drive into mourning and despair.
But back to the first part of the tape. Like I said, she seemed very funny to me. Needless to say, the film was literally torn to quotes, and this primarily indicates that the actors were on top. After all, if they mumbled or were insincere and sluggish, the film clearly would not have had such popularity. Separately, I want to note Epifantsev in the role of an adequate officer, but this is his debut role, which may have become a takeoff for him, the actor he is now quite famous, and this is not only because of his role in the Elephant.
It’s also not superfluous to say that the film spawned just an ocean of secondary material. On the Internet you can find a bunch of funny pictures, memes, remixes and parody videos for this film, like: Elephant Cancan, Green Boomer, Elephant Particles and much more. I'm not talking about an amateur epic trailer created in the style of Nolan. Laughter, that's all.
Of course, at its core, Green Elephant is more of a bad movie, although in some places very, very funny. But quite a few would argue the opposite, that it's a super movie with a huge sense and subtle philosophy. But I am sure that most of these liberals in their hearts understand that they are wrong, and that there is nothing so beautiful and brilliant in this film, but at the same time, it is also not worth talking about the fact that there is absolutely nothing interesting and attractive in the picture.
So, in the end, I don’t recommend watching this movie, not because you’re unlikely to like it, but because my recommendation doesn’t make much sense. Still, if an ordinary person who knows nothing about this tape, somewhere stumbles upon it and reads more than 1-2 reviews, then I am sure that his curiosity will surely take over the voice of reason, and he will quickly ignite the desire to see this extraordinary, you can say almost forbidden film. After all, as you know, any forbidden fruit is sweet, even if it is not so.
For the courage of all the people who took part in this film, as well as for the successful non-standard humor, quotes and for the strong performance of the two actors in the first half of the film, I put Green Elephant quite deserved:

P.S. The review is dedicated to user Bopo6yIIIek. Pull up.
“Green Elephant” is the main source of food for all fans of domestic thrash, as well as for coprophages and fans of low-quality cinema on the theme of army and hazing discourse. The movie has everything you need - thrash, sodium and sodomy, so gop. Spider (Sergei Troitsky) would definitely approve.
The main theme of Baskova’s film is a fragment of the confrontation between layers of society, divided by our current culture. Officer Pakhomov is trying to convey something to Epifantsev, the subject of a typical Russian cattle. In response, the cattle, laughing at the cellmate, begins to furiously whirl his hands and feet. At the same time, it may seem more worthy to interpret how the modern mass media (Pakhomov) feeds its inhabitants (Epifantsev) with the same stale shit. The typical Russian man's attempt to counter this calls on a half-naked guard (Maslaev) who is ready to "destroy!" the rebel. The authorities (Osmolovsky) absolutely do not care about all the lower strata of society, and she has everyone in her mouth who speaks against her.
The first half-hour of the film sets the viewer to something unusual and strange, giving him every second a reason not to continue watching the film. At the same time, certain moments of the film can make even a perfectly adequate and sane person laugh. The next half an hour is much more amusing to the viewer, and also introduces him into shock, given the moment with eating excrement the main character. At the same time, the viewer gets the impression that something “right” will happen next, giving a logical conclusion to the film. That's just the final half-hour just bear the psyche of the viewer, who until then was still in balance, and did not even count on such an end of the film.
In principle, certain moments of the film, even the most terrible, in their own way characterize modern Russia, or at least the period of the first 5-10 years after the collapse of Sovka. The film is rightly called “the dirtiest picture of the millennium”, given the presence of homosexuality, coprophilia, necrophilia, beatings, violence, rape, murder, suicide, schizophrenia, feces and actions with them. And also "wet", "dismembered" and just a sea of blood. Only three-storey obscene vocabulary of what is worth, on which all dialogues and monologues of the film are based.
In truth, both the actors, the director, and even the cameraman absolutely conveyed their idea to the viewer, immersed him in the film itself, as much as possible.

considering the depth of understanding, peculiarity and uniqueness.
"Great movie!" I would have written, but the lyrics are hard to express the depth of irony. The director of the film in one of the programs said that it was an attempt of some artistic allegory as part of a protest against the war in Chechnya. I doubt that this helped in resolving the conflict, but what leaves no doubt is that the tape is too vague metaphorical to connect it with anything known to modern science.
The film is amateur, but I assume that before the start of filming, the camera lens was several times tightly attached to the battery, so that the underground would come out, not ugly Hollywood. And so it turned out: the picture literally crushes its “saturation”. Cinematography slowly but surely suggests a comparison with a monkey with a grenade. However, it may be a “clutter” under the documentary, but I would shoot evener with my left foot, especially since in the film no one runs or jumps. Such a sitcom.
In general, we are shown one day in the life of the military, who easily and effortlessly manage to go crazy for the final credits. And all this is generously seasoned with selective mat, feces eating, blood, intestines, sexual perversions and death. And also - first-class nonsense, both in conversations and in deeds.
The film can be divided into two parts: the first is mainly talk; the second is more action. Conversations are close to how it actually happens, which, of course, plus and obscene language here played not the last role. There's also some sort of humor, and one moment in the beginning is, in my opinion, almost brilliant. But with the understanding that one of the characters is sick on the head, it did not become funnier. It's just the opposite. The second part can be viewed at an accelerated pace. I could not believe in “trash” and, despite my natural disgust, I calmly dined after watching the picture.
The film gravitates more toward psychedelics than horror, and in a very ugly way tells how bad breeds bad multiplied by degree. Perhaps this is a protest against all the negativity that society has accumulated for the dashing nineties. Wedge, so to speak. Some kind of shock therapy. But I have a strong impression that this movie for the most part consists of a lot of “nedo” and “too much”. It's a case of quantity over quality, and I just didn't have to choose between genius or anger. And, people who see masterpieces, most likely, appeal to the hidden deep meaning, which, as a be, is so skillfully hidden that average minds can not even see, so they criticize, nothingness.
I never cease to be surprised by the inadequate popularity of the painting “Green Elephant” not created for mass or family viewing. I never cease to be offended by the fact that this popularity came only from the unconventionality of the shocking format of this film. How many times have I heard a lot of people of completely different levels of artistic perception expressed their "FI" in the direction of this delightful film-excess. And to be honest, when I started watching Green Elephant, driven by ordinary curiosity, I had a conscious contempt for what I was about to see. However, I enthusiastically went through the entire timeline of the film from the foul-smelling male humor to the incredibly tragic ending. And when the movie ended, the standard question came to mind: “What did I just see?” I am not satisfied with the stigma of “art house”, which is blindly hung on everything that defies rational thought, and I am not satisfied with the formulation of “thrash art house”, where the prefix thrash indicates only that the art house is becoming more aggressive, and any vulnerable public should be protected from it. The green elephant is clearly something deeper.
Nothing happens by accident. I do not think that Svetlana Baskova wanted to convey to the viewer only disgust. At least I really want to think that way. To interpret the meaning of this picture is absurd, as well as to seek it at all. But people inevitably look for meaning in everything, even where one should give in to one sensation. And it made me think that Green Elephant was a tape of madness. After all, who is this Brother, so sensually filled with Epifantsev? A brother is a normal person. My brother was next to Pach. His groin is looking for friends, he is a good soul, to God, but always carries some nonsense. At first it looks like an animal comedy. But gradually Bratok ceases to laugh gallantly, loses his balance and is seized by fear and hatred, fear of the unstoppable madness of Pachom and hatred of the absurdity of what is happening, of dripping water, of the complete indifference of the whole world. Comedy turns to horror. And with the emergence of the second center of insanity - the "general", our hero loses the benchmark of the norm. The question arises: “Will Brother lose a man in himself?” The ending of the film is very theatrical, it is, in fact, and leads astray all seekers of common sense. But the wild nightmare at the end allows you to “feel the difference” between this crazy world on the screen and your balanced world in front of the screen.
In short, “Green Elephant” is a difficult thing, this is a movie in which you need to dig, listen to the replicas of the characters (I would give an example of a couple of enchanting quotes, but they out of context too cut censorship ear). You don't have to dig in and listen. Whatever! But I still don't believe that adults could shoot something like that for nothing.
After watching this movie, you can say that the movie is terrible and what is it? But such comments can leave only such groups of people as women, schoolchildren, sofa theorists in fact, and perhaps the most important haters are unserviceable ' men'.
This film fully reveals the essence of the Russian army. To be clear, when faced with an idiot in life, you will not communicate with him anymore, and if you encounter him in the army, then you serve with him all the time. A clear example is shown in this film, where we see an idiot or more correctly will be ' went ' and an adequate officer (who naturally went crazy at the end of the film). The reality of dialogue, which can be found in the army (even in the army can be ruder), is conveyed. Of course, the second half of the film is too much, but for the transferred army reality in the first half of the film - 10 points.
Oh yes, ' Defenders' ours, with white tickets, drinking on May 9 most of all, I appeal to you: I understand that you can’t comment on anything else in the world, so where you don’t understand – do not climb.
I will begin my review by saying that the film is a masterpiece. To be honest, the film is not for everyone, as not everyone will understand the philosophy of the film. Now very fashionable movies with an in-depth plot or very expensive special effects. There are no big special effects or Tarantin’s plot in the ZS (Green Elephant). The plot here is very simple and it is brilliant! Just 2 Russian army workers were on the so-called guardhouse and began these funny and rather funny adventures Brother Epiphane and mischievous Pakhom. It seems to me that they were there quite by accident and this is evident from the brilliant acting games.
Closer to the middle of the picture, they are joined by 2 more characters - the so-called "Colonel" and comrade Captain. With the appearance of these guys in the picture, the atmosphere of adventure rises noticeably. And this atmosphere lasts until the very end and does not let you get tired.
I'll give you a little bit of a character.
The groin is always cheerful and mischievous military feeling that he is only called up for service but he has so many stories that any traveler would envy it, just as Pakhom is very important friendship and loyalty, which is very much shown in the film. Also, Pakhom has very high moral principles and qualities (the main thing is not to become a cunt, a friend, but a friend, etc.).
Brother Epiphane is a rather serious and closed character. He very much wants to remain one with himself and just meditate on the Taizatsiyuan system, which has to be studied for 20 years (although Epiphane looks so young, but it is immediately obvious that even the “Pahoma deception” did not break through the “Epiphane steel press” in connection with which it is immediately clear that Epiphane is fully trained in the Taizatsiyuan technique). But with the mischievous Pachoma, he will not be able to remain united with himself, in connection with which he can fall into inhuman aggression and even more so become a “beast.”
Comrade Captain is always a dissatisfied fighter for knowledge and justice. I would describe him as a “Mother Historian” and he seems ready to do anything just to bring knowledge into the heads of his subordinates. How many su-fighters??? And the Captain also has a very reverent taste for food, and this is very well illustrated by the example of Tea, which the Colonel brings him.
The colonel is the most charezmatic character I've ever met in a movie. The Colonel is a very good psychologist, philosopher, strategist, and just a great friend. The colonel also has a dream to which he goes despite various obstacles and everything - he achieves what he wants. Although he is kind and positive, he does his job very well (very well shown in the part where Epiphanes was sent to work).
The whole film is full of allegories, philosophical thoughts, jokes, special effects (which are not what but they are), a great soundtrack of the band Pantera, and just life things from which throws and laughs and cry!
So who is not familiar with this film see and who has already been awarded this honor, they have already decided for themselves that ZS is something incredible and he will always be in the soul (bad or good is everyone’s business), but he will always be with us.
I would like to end with this phrase (taken from the Internet, most likely, by some philosopher based on the ZS). Having one fork can clean almost everything, and having 2 forks you can clean everything.
10 out of 10
I was thinking to put him 1, but after Baskova fed me shit, I realized that I can not deny it and to put for the quintessence of shit 1 would be hypocritical – say, and I did not eat. Everyone who looked at it ate. And I ate. Indeed, I was fed quality and selective shit, which is very difficult to find.
Putting 10 I would agree that I like to eat shit, and Baskova's shit is very cool and I'd like supplements (of her other films). But I don't want to eat shit anymore. However, I cannot deny that I was fed them, so I tend to be rated (1+10)/2. I don’t like to eat shit, but to say I didn’t eat would be a lie. And, of course, the review is neither positive nor negative. Neutral.
Green Elephant is an unusual movie, of course. By the will of fate, he became a legend of art-house Russian cinema - connoisseurs saw in it a significant parable, affecting the themes of peace and war, the struggle for survival, for the right to remain a reasonable person. I share a similar view.
Before us is a rather direct and slashing picture from the shoulder - there is no deep drama and elaborate characters, there is no clear, passing through the entire narrative of the global idea - instead, the director Svetlana Baskova presented the viewer as a much more unusual gift. No, I’m not referring to the contents of Pakhomov’s plate, I’m talking about a huge personal space for the many conjectures, opinions and interpretations of the story shown, which everyone who has seen the picture gets. With this gift, Baskova hit exactly the target, she revealed the very pristine essence of the theater, made the viewer, who knows how and loves to read between the lines, really empathize.
What has this movie become to me? A brutal and realistic war drama. I don’t know how a woman was able to convey the essence of Soviet and post-Soviet military life, how she was able to penetrate into a system in which only men interact. However, the fact remains that when I started watching the film, I believed that there were two military men in the cell - the main characters behave exactly like in the real army, with all the swearing, constant yelling and assault. Such scenes and characters can not be seen in any “ninth company”, which is why you really believe in a green elephant.
There is no positive hero in the film. He's hopeless. He's really black. In it you will not see worthy officers, courageous actions. Thanks to him, you may finally begin to believe that our society has no chance. But if you like a good art house, there is every chance that this picture will become one of your favorites – at least you will not forget it, that’s for sure.
My subjective -
A masterpiece of Russian cinema. In this film, you can see the allegory of our society: the captain is the power; the guard is the cops, the mon; the traveler is the people; and the rebel is a rebel who does not agree with the regime, a fighter against the system. You can also see the madness that goes on in the military and prisons and what can happen to people in a confined space.
P.S. The first half of the film looks easy and at ease, in the second begins hardness, faint of heart it is better not to watch. If you have severe depression, I advise you to watch this film in its entirety and after watching it you realize that you live in paradise.

The first time I saw it, I didn’t know anything about it at all, just advised. I watched in the dark at night, never pausing (which is rare, I usually go to smoke 2-3 times). For a little more than half an hour I mostly laughed, although I understood Epiphanes – it was painfully often that I found myself alone with people who found it easier to talk about all sorts of nonsense than just a little silence. And then I sat for almost an hour with my eyes bulging and my mouth wide open (except for the moment of making sweet bread). Shooting this Siemens A32 (or even an electric kettle) plunged me into this atmosphere soaked in craziness, blood, desperation and hopelessness. I didn’t turn it on for two days, and then I decided to watch it again – I was already having more fun. And every time I liked it more and more, I started quoting it in my life. This film is one of those that I watched more than fifty times and do not regret the time spent. Recently, sitting in a lecture, I quoted a classmate in the form of a dialogue with him almost completely the first 30 minutes, and he, not knowing where all these phrases and stories came from, thought I was crazy. His opinion was shared by a couple of guys sitting in front of us. So as a means of trolling, this film is generally cool.
I've read 20 red and green reviews and I'm sitting in a plague. I just got those reviews, I can't read them anymore, man. One review is more inflammatory than the other, simply. The deep meaning, man. Some dirt, some blood. What are you talking about? Can you shut up? Baskova, man, the sick one - kick back, man. What the hell? What do you mean? In general, supple" (c) Epiphane. Some have a syndrome of searching for deep meaning, others have an overdose of moralfage in the blood. I am the only one who understands that it is necessary to learn and take examples not from films / games / music, but from parents (and even then not always), and films / games / music are created for entertainment.
Stop wasting your time - if you are looking for instructive films with a happy ending and with a rating of 3+ pass by, but if you like black humor, dirt, surprise, absurdity, thrash, harp and sodomy, then WELCOME to us for the guardhouse! But, for the sake of the eggs of an old dinosaur, do not think to look for some message from the director - there is none.
Evaluation
3 points for Epiphanes monologue on the use of sweet bread as a shower gel
2 points for dialogue
Baskova is a brilliant director. This movie is true, that’s probably why so many people can’t watch it. Everyone has been saturated recently with a beautiful Hollywood visual series and a dramatic plot. But the truth is inconvenient, the eye hurts, it is terrible and no one needs it! Is that true for anyone? Many scold the film. If you haven’t seen and don’t know, it doesn’t mean it isn’t! There are worse things.
Now let me explain: no one anywhere in the cinema has demonstrated madness, reactive psychosis, a state of affect and schizophrenia (at least I have not seen). Why I think it’s brilliant, because many people are looking for some kind of meaning (sometimes secret, hidden), they say that the film has no idea, plot and logic. That's what he's supposed to be! You know what the logic is, AU! Have you seen crazy people, listened to what they say and did? The fact is that they have no meaning, in fact it should not be there (there are foci of excitation in the cerebral cortex as a result of psychotraumas). And to analyze an elephant like all other movies is to look for a black cat in a dark room where it is not.
In Green Elephant, I couldn’t tell the difference between the game and the reality so much that I couldn’t tell you about other movies. Take, for example, some of my favorite movies: "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," or "Fight Club"; great movies, but it's not like a medic talking (mentally ill people don't behave like that). Thank you to the director for the reliable (from a medical point of view) film, as well as for a serious shake-up of the army theme!
I can tell you why a lot of people didn’t like the movie (I’m not talking about that right now). The film asks a lot of questions and no answers. Baskova does not show us how things came to this (how people came to this), that is, we do not see the path and cannot trace it, and what it means to show the previous tragic events in the plot is to give the audience even the slightest opportunity for compassion! For example, Tarantino always gives backstory. Baskova doesn't do that! Because more original than him, I am silent about courage.
It shows only the final result and this is agony, that is, we already see deeply mentally ill people (without any information), and healthy people have not been shown to us, because compassion has no place. I'll give you a parallel with the movie Why Copro? A man eats a beautiful piece of cake and comes out. So Baskova shows the viewer only what is out!!
This masterpiece of independent Russian cinema of the end of the last century remained unknown for a long time to the mass audience. And only with the resounding introduction of the Internet into the life of almost every layman, the film Svetlana Baskova "Green Elephant" received simply cult recognition. Basically, users took fragments from the picture and made them either crazy, or comedy videos. Fortunately, the material of the project made it possible to make humor on a variety of topics with the participation of two stars of the film - Vladimir Epifantsev and Sergei "Pakhom" Pakhomov. But behind the Internet humor, the audience lost the meaning of the film itself, which was watched from beginning to end not all, again due to multiple cuts in the Network. On the one hand, these scenes are the most interesting that happens in the plot, but at the same time leave much in the unknown. But the truth is, it's mostly the most disgusting content.
The plot of the film develops in the conditions of a God-forgotten military unit, namely in a solitary confinement room. At the very beginning of the picture, two guilty officers are brought to a cold, dirty and completely unsuitable for people to live in a room. Figuratively, they can be called by the names of actors, Pakhomov and Epifantsev. Since they have nothing to do, they tell stories about their lives. True, Pakhomov’s stories are becoming increasingly inadequate and incredibly nasty every minute. A huge part of his image is kept in touch with feces, which makes Epifantsev mad. The image of the latter almost to the end is kept within the framework of common sense, but he also surrenders to the realities of a cruel society, namely under the influence of a sadistic captain. The finale of the story could not be happy, because went here all the people were happy.
The whole film is based on the amazingly authentic play of two actors who, one might say, perfectly embodied Baskova’s crazy fantasy. I will highlight the rapid transformation of Pakhom from an ordinary middle-aged man into an inadequate, but still kind psychopath who found a friend in the person of Epifantsev. The same, in turn, coped perfectly with scenes of rage and violence, in which the main victim is Pach. Well, in the final, when the confrontation with the captain comes to its peak, Epifantsev becomes a real demon who sweeps away all moral norms and destroys his tormentor on all counts.
I want to note the fact that the picture is really interesting and even adequate only up to half. It is from this part of the picture that Internet users took all the winged scenes and expressions. All that will come after is abomination and lack of logic. Baskova could not stop in time and decided to shock her viewer with the most nasty manifestations of human nature. She brought the army to an absolute absurdity and thus brought her creation to the end. The main value of her film is shock. But what did the director want to show us? The groin is an image of a good-natured person who, despite his essence, does not find understanding from society. Epifantsev is a servant of the system, who tries to come out of any life trouble with pride. Yes, this same system breaks him from beginning to end, and psycho Pach becomes his last true companion in life. Let’s not forget the captain, who is the embodiment of society and the system. His main goal is sadism against the guilty. And in the toughest forms. Also in the picture there is another hero, who can be called the Colonel. It is also a military man who is dependent on the captain and performs the duties of a personal slave. The plot is not particularly affected, but complements the overall picture of scenario madness.
“Green Elephant” could well claim positive criticism, since it still reveals many aspects of human relationships and through the prism of absurdity reveals the unpleasant aspects of society, which closes its eyes to such closed details. But Baskova decided to play to the fullest and threw on the screen everything she could at that time - feces, dirty naked bodies, blood, intestines and a ton of obscene statements. Perhaps a true creator could communicate his ideas with less radical tools. I don’t argue, sometimes it is necessary to push the limits of human thinking and throw a cold shower on the audience. But we must not forget that in attempts to impress the public you can make a real joke.
In conclusion, I want to say that “Green Elephant” picture is clearly ambiguous. On the one hand, it amazes with the acting of Pakhomov and Epifantsev, but on the other hand it is an ode to bad taste and the inability to shock without an abundance of dirt in the frame. Perhaps you should not recommend this film to those who want to look at life in a closed society from the dark side, since there is nothing outstanding and radical, from the point of view of innovative ideas, in the film. But if you want to see an hour and a half of the selected Russian thrash, then the Green Elephant is for you.
Evaluation of the film is difficult.
I went to this movie for a very long time. For the first time I heard about the Elephant from the stories of my second cousin. The story, despite the absurdity, seemed very funny to me.
I enjoyed watching this movie afterwards. Time was well spent. I didn’t laugh for so long, but at the same time, I felt sorry for the characters of the film, sometimes I had to listen to their words, and in some places it was scary. I'm going to break it down. I was very sorry for him, because you can see that behind his ridiculous words and deeds hides a bright, but tortured soul. He suffered so much in life that the beatings that Brother and the guard inflicted on him did not cause him any anger. From Maslaev’s reasoning it was possible to draw a lot of food for thought. It became scary at the moment when the Driver began to do "off-off-off." I thought a demon would come out of it and scream at the loudness of the speakers. However, the scene of the murder of Captain Brother for some reason did not cause me fear, somehow it looked banal.
However, I still don’t understand why the guard was talking to him about the parade and how he would become a colonel and then for some reason hanged himself (but catches). Sometimes you say to yourself, “I’m on a white horse!” You're on a white horse! I'm Colonel! I command the parade! etc.
I will not define the exact interpretation of the film. The meaning here can be seen very different. However, I can say for sure that this is a black tragicomedy, the tragedy of which lies in showing how much injustice can disfigure a person. The time of action is also difficult to determine. Perhaps the action takes place in 1986 (this is hinted at by a poster hanging by a guard in the room), as all the characters in Soviet uniforms walk, or perhaps the action takes place in the 90s. Despite this, the film can not be called anti-Soviet, since the above, in my opinion, is made simply for entruage, and in general, the film does not carry any ideological overtones.
The film is a real masterpiece of the domestic art house, because it is not without reason that it has already become so popular that so much Internet creativity is devoted to it, and quotes from it, we can say, have already gone to the people. Svetlana Baskova is an excellent director, capable of a peculiar synthesis of black humor, drama and arthouse to create a wonderful film that will surely appeal to any connoisseur of such a movie.
10 out of 10
Art house. Such films set themselves the task: not so much to entertain as to make you think, analyze, penetrate into the essence of the film, review it again and again. Each time you discover something new, thereby changing the perception of the real. It is desirable to change the perception of the real world to such an extent as to doubt whether it is real at all.

Screwer Boy
Although this "cinema masterpiece" is difficult to attribute to art house, it is something in between, between art house and thrash, with a strong inclination to the latter. Undoubtedly, this is one of the dirtiest films in history, even Lucifer Valentine's puke trilogy seems to be a clean domestic cat against the background of Slonik. But is dirt a factor that could have a bad effect on the film? In this case, no.
Svetlana Baskova is Russian Jorg Buttgerright, Lloyd Kaufman female, if you will. As someone who loves thrash, I was delighted with her work. Let’s first go through the design of the painting. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Cubric. Divided into two parts, radically different, but not deprived of their own, I would say "sparkles".
The first part.
Consisting entirely of a dialogue between two rather bum-like officers. Groin and Brother. It’s because of these conversations that this movie has become an Internet meme. Phrases such as “Flies will arrive, and we will kill them all”, “Brother, I brought you a meal!” and “I am a colonel!” have been walking on the Internet for a long time. I must say, these dialogues are the strongest side of the film. I'm not afraid to say, This is the level of Tarantino. I've never been more interested in sitting down and listening to two people just talking, just "Green Elephant" and "Tarantino." Amazingly built, simple manner of communication, with an often skipping mat, understandable to any person in our country. It’s really exciting and funny in places.
The second part.
This is the beginning of what a lot of people blame this film for. Of course, I can understand people who don’t want to watch homosexual fun in a puddle of blood and guts, but personally I don’t see anything wrong with that. In the end, "Begotten" Elias Merige showed something similar, in a more, I think, more perverse manner, however, this film can be safely called art and put on the same shelf with "Cosmic Odyssey: 2001" and "Tokyo Narrative". Perhaps not everyone understands that the adultery of officers is not so much the sex of two men as an artistic device. And I don’t understand the claims about it. If a person is afraid of the sight of blood, he does not faint from the sight of red paint in the picture.
Tender sugar
You can interpret the meaning of the painting as much as you like. Let’s go through the most common theories. There are two:
Theory one. Protest against the Chechen war. (as an option: against the war in general). Not a meaningless conclusion. This can be understood by the Captain's reasoning and by his later fate. It should also be noted that all actors are military. By the way, "Divine comedy" is very much in the subject here.
Theory two. The ridicule of the “consumer society.” Nor does it make sense. The consumer market is Pachom, and Brother is the buyer. The groin tries to feed Brother with his excrement, and Brother, it is not clear how, turns out to be without pants. Funny allegory.
But I personally adhere to my own theory about the interpretation of this picture:
Everything that happens on the screen is an illusion dedicated to the life of the hero Sergey Pakhomov in the context. The evil father who beat Pakhom like Epifantsev’s hero at the beginning of the film. What did Pahom think of his mother? He loved her. Because she loved him. As they used to say in the village, stupid. She loved him. Recalling the last monologue of Pakhom addressed to the hero Epifantsev, it can even be believed.
Speaking of which, what do Pough and Brother sit for? And are any of them local Tyler Durdon?
You can talk about it endlessly, but it is an art house. A complex movie that everyone understands and interprets because of their worldview. Isn’t that why we love movies like Lynch, Tarkovsky? Only here dwarfs on red velvet and burning horses were replaced by an act of coprophilia.
Whether it is good or bad, everyone decides for themselves. The film is definitely worth watching at least once. Talking about the quality, the picture and the content of this picture is disgusting. Talking about the semantic component and the mood that remains after the film is amazing. The picture gives a storm of emotions: from laughter and fun, to horror and disgust.
Let it be
"Widely known in narrow circles — this is how they say about films of this kind. A green elephant is something forbidden, disgusting, ridiculous. Something that isn't, but it could be. Like chocolate cake, or, to make it clearer, sweet bread: it seems already full, but still pulls to it.
This movie is not for everyone . The audience of this picture is mainly fans of dirty humor, so it is better to remove children, women and men who look like women from the screens at once. I also suggest that fans of high-quality pictures refrain, because you will spit.
It may be almost impossible to understand this, but this film is a protest against the Chechen war. It is so well hidden that different people see different meanings in this film, depending on their education or corruption.
Now a word about the movie itself. It all starts out pretty nicely and harmlessly, except for the obscene expressions that I have become quite accustomed to over the years of ordinary life. But then it's like it's growing. The film is getting tougher, nastyer and finally coming to its climax.
As for the benefits of this film, there is something to it. It's the first 35-40 minutes. Personally, I paused the film several times to have time to laugh until a new batch of "stories." In general, from this film you can take a lot of useful quotes and cues and use them daily. Those who have watched it once, can no longer use phrases from there, so viewing with friends is recommended.
