This comment will probably be more interesting to women than men. Here I collected a small part of the notes on some episodes.
After watching Coco Do Chanel’s film, and hearing her view of “what love is” as she looked at her mother, I wondered if love really existed. Koko said, “My mother was an idiot, married for love and cried all her life, he cheated on her, she cried for days, waited for him.” To be honest, it cut me off because my dad cheated on my mom. But I can't say that I don't believe in love just because men cheat. But in my experience, love is really just pain. And the question is whether there is really pure love, the one about which they write in books and make films.
They say that if a woman changes her hair, it will soon change her life.
Can I say that this is what happens? More likely than not.
Coincidentally or not, I recently changed my hair color. It's just a fact.
Has my life changed since then?
Not really. It's not about hair. But some changes have happened.
And they have nothing to do with signs. I think I just got smarter.
That's what I really want to believe.
Everything in life has to be paid for. What are you willing to give for success? Rather, it will be a question of what you can give for success. You'll be lucky if life offers you an opportunity to pay for with your work. But as this story shows, sometimes life doesn’t ask you what you have to offer it, it will take what you would never offer it, but in return you will be left with what you want. But the question is, are you happy after such a silent exchange?
By the way, going back to the beginning, I can answer the first question.
Yes.
Having written all this, I can not call it a review, rather it is my monologue with myself.
But this monologue is based on the thoughts that came to me while watching.
What's that gonna do? For some, for some, nothing.
It is up to you, but in any case, the film will not leave you indifferent and you will definitely find your moments and learn for yourself the most important thing that is possible at this moment it is useful for you to realize.
Gabrielle Boehner (Coco Chanel) is a French fashion designer who at one time completely turned the idea of fashion and gave the world a new style of her own, still popular. This great woman lived an interesting and rich life and opened the world famous Fashion House.
The painting “Coco do Chanel” introduces the viewer to Gabrielle to world fame and tells the story of the formation of an ordinary girl from a cafe to a trendsetter.
The main role was played by Audrey Totu. The actress has a certain charm and appearance and the role of Coco Chanel suited her flawlessly. In front of the audience a real self-confident girl who knows what she wants from life. Her path is thorny and not easy, but her inner strength and talent rightfully made Coco Chanel a famous fashion designer. Audrey Totu conveyed the image of her prototype very well and, looking at the screen, you see not everyone’s usual Amélie, but the very real, sophisticated Coco.
The film itself is harmonious and tonal. It was interesting to see the beautiful costumes and scenery and how the things we wear to this day were gradually introduced. The film is not devoted to fashion, rather it is a film about a woman who challenged the society of the time.
Of the disadvantages, I note the lack of dynamics of the film. It goes a little more than average timekeeping and still a little tiresome. I personally lacked the motivation and zeal of the main character in the film.
But overall, the movie is not bad. If you like autobiographical pictures, then “Coco do Chanel” will be a good option. Wonderful music, beautiful shots, refined Audrey Thoth, and the vivid life story of Gabrielle Chanel will appeal to you.

The fashion queen. The woman is a legend who created herself out of nothing, and has risen to the podium of high fashion, which will remain for many years.
Today is Sunday, and our family viewing of French cinema weekends continues. And of course, again Audrey Thoth, and again flawless. Especially in the role of such a famous person as Coco (Gabriel) Chanel. To this day, this woman is on the lips of the whole world, she is talked about, written about, made a movie about her, and she undoubtedly deserves it. A vivid example to follow, the story of the great Destiny that changed the world of fashion.
It has always been Chanel. Smart, wayward, passionate, this character was formed from childhood and youth. She realized very early on that the world was ruled by money. But she doesn't want to live off a man. Her freedom-loving personality would not accept it. What can a poor girl stand up to high society? She is a creative nature and has a special gift - to see the essence of things, the basis, the silhouette, style, essence. This is how I think of Gabrielle Chanel on films and books.
The life story of one of the legendary women of France in the magnificent presentation of the director Anne Fontaine and the magnificent Audrey Thoth. This is the story of a simple girl named Gabriel, who managed not to break down in the harsh conditions of the orphanage, where she was brought up with her living father. This is a story about the ups and downs of a young girl who, with perseverance of despair, seized every opportunity to use her multifaceted artistic talent. During the day, work at a sewing machine, on which the first collections of outfits from the future legislator of high fashion were created for dancers of cheap cabaret. In the evening - performances on the stage of the same cabaret, the regulars of which Gabrielle Chanel owes her nickname Coco: she received it for the performance of an uncomplicated song from her repertoire. But one day His Majesty's fate intervened.
I liked the game Audrey Thoth and I gave the highest score to this actress, and those who are interested in this person can evaluate the film themselves, and what it was, we still do not know, we have only a legacy. Films about her can only complement the image, but not create, for me this character remains a mystery. A film that opens our eyes to life and that our destiny is in our hands. There is a motivation to believe in yourself and your strength. Fate spared mankind another ordinary singer to give him the great trendsetter, who opened people's eyes to the personality of women, and introduced elegance - a sign of not simplicity, but taste. The story in the film will go before the little black dresses and pants suits for women. From the basics, from how it all started.
The plot of the film mainly tells about the times when she was not yet famous Coco, and was called Gabriel Chanel. After leaving the orphanage, she worked as a singer in a bar with her sister, where she met Baron Balzan. He introduces her to the French light and helps her develop a gift for creating popular hats. Coco falls in love with an English businessman Arthur Capl, who helps her to open up new opportunities. Having emerged from poverty, Coco Chanel becomes an example for many people, proving that origin can mean nothing if there is a purpose. This small, talented woman made a revolution in fashion - put on a woman clothes, elements of which were borrowed from the men's suit, created the famous little black dress, and changed a lot in wearing jewelry.
The film is about the brightest person of the last century, who was able to change fashion in the direction of convenience and elegance. She was not afraid to break the rules and break the stereotypes. When you see a photo of this miniature Frenchwoman, you just wonder how she managed to achieve such successes as she managed to gain recognition around the world, becoming synonymous with femininity, elegance and good taste.
Of course, the film focuses more on personal life, not on the formation of Gabrielle in the world of high fashion, but Audrey Totu just perfectly reincarnated in Chanel, I personally believed that she is Gabrielle. Yes, they are similar in appearance, actress and character. Audrey is also miniature, fragile, tender, sensual, and as mysterious as the great Mademoiselle Coco herself. The film shows what Chanel was when she was a simple singer, how her relationships with men, her attitude to the world, to herself. We see how difficult it was for this inch girl - the eternal girl among the lush bright ladies, how many humiliations and trials she went through, how she managed to survive the death of her beloved, before she became the one about whom people talk with admiration to this day.
In addition to the excellent acting, the film turned out very, beautiful, it is pleasant to watch. Very pleased with the quotes that lavishly decorated the film. This film gives us the opportunity to look at Coco Chanel, not just as a style icon, but as a simple woman who wanted to love and be loved, as she fought for her place in the sun. A beautiful film about the fact that fashion is the greatest of all arts, if there are people who realize that they and fashion are not separate, understand that daily self-expression also has laws in time, laws of development, there is no possibility to ignore them, since absolutely everyone is involved in this circle. The film is about that.
The film is very French, and this “Frenchness” is felt in everything, in every movement, in every frame. Audrey is a smart girl, joined the role as a native, it was felt that she was born for this role, that only she was destined to play the great Chanel. Everyone who is interested in the name of this great woman is recommended to view necessarily. Oh, these lipstick, perfume, shoes, dress and hats, hats, hats ...
Interesting to see, but! Audrey Totu is a one-dimensional actress, everywhere Amelie or (now) everywhere Coco. The plot is torn, some episodes are not clear why inserted, not explained (well, maybe the translation is such). I omit the discussion of the moral side of Coco’s campaign to fame and recognition, but I don’t like it all very much, no, it’s clear that there is no other way for the provincial then. .
Strangely, after watching the film, I no longer really want to admire the beautiful and sophisticated Coco Chanel. Because she's not a lady. Not in the sense that she was born in an orphanage and experienced poverty, but in the fact that she was kept by a rich aristocrat, with whom she was not even in love, and did not want to fulfill herself at first. Had she been lucky, the world would never have known the strict femininity of the fashion world from Chanel. Yes, then she fell in love with Boy, who, although he did not marry her, but saw, believed, persuaded, and also invested money. Consider him lucky, too. Had it not happened in her life, and she would not have sewed, maybe she would have married someone and got married, or maybe she would have remained a content until she was tired. Yes, the world was cruel to women, a businesswoman so nonsense, since working women caused dissonance in the minds of men of the time. But still, I am somewhat disappointed, the image of a strong woman has shaken.
And I am disturbed not so much by the fact that she was kept, but by the scene in the film, when Balsan treats her extremely disrespectful, makes her a guest entertainer, a pet, humiliates. I don’t know if it really happened, but I’m rebellious about it, especially because she had no good reason to let herself be treated like that. Yes, you can become poor and go to work as a seamstress, but their feet will not wipe over you. She's also a liar-component, and it slips a little bit in the film, and in life it's also partly confirmed by the fact that she hid the real date of her birth. So we'll never know what she really had with these fateful men for her and the world.
And this is not about the film, but about Coco herself, the film is just very good, because it made so rethink the familiar image of the “great woman”. I love movies that lead to unexpected conclusions.
Naturality and elegance without fiction and fiction.
Well, we immediately admit that the film is an amateur and not all viewers have a positive attitude to such a smooth and soft manner of shooting.
I’m not going to write about who the film is about, how great and legendary, etc., we all know so well. I want to pay more attention to the picture itself, as if we do not know about whom it is.
The calmness and dimension of the film has its inimitable charm. That's the beauty. No overly dramatic and melodramatic scenes with screaming accompaniment. This is an elegant autobiography where events are depicted naturally and naturally.
Fantastic Audrey Totu incredibly conveyed the charm of her heroine. That pride, that independence, that strength and determination, I saw it. And that's cool! Movements, eyes, facial expressions, she can say a lot even if the actress is silent.
I tried to forget that this is a film about Chanel, so as not to judge biasedly. So I watched a movie about a woman who revolutionized fashion. And the contrast between the first and last scenes is simply fascinating.
The authors did an incredibly huge and difficult job. The spirit of time and events without fanfare and fiction. Definitely worthy of admiration!
This is not a review, not a retelling of the film, but just an opinion.
Opinion from viewing.
The answer to the question is, “How is the movie?”
Whether you watch it or not is your choice.
* * * * * * *
Everyone who comes out of Chanelia is dedicated to...
Sometimes, on some third-party sites, when writing a new review, everyone is greeted with the following inscription: “Nobody is here yet.” Will you go?” With confidence, you can write something similar at all theaters, which for the sake of unknown who and what released this film. And add a bold marker: "No!" At least I sincerely advise you. On the poster of the cinema, where I drifted, there was no such inscription, alas, and unhealthy curiosity and cinematic lust doomed me to this almost two-hour agony.
What awaits the victim-viewer? Costumes, dialogues, costumes, dialogues, costumes, dialogues. Boring, boredom, boredom. The plot that fits on the ticket box. Lovely Audrey Tautou, who is truly sorry. And most importantly, the main thing: gnashing of teeth and scratching of nails, grunting and, muffled by a two-meter layer of earth, the endless curse performed by the great Coco Chanel rolling over in the coffin.
Everything in this film causes a “storm of feelings”: pity (to the money spent on the ticket, including), shame, boredom, boredom, anger from talentless directing, resentment from the game of cardboard characters, or rather, from its absence, and pity for yourself, looking at this film forgery called “screened biography”. Is that the storm of feeling you want? I doubt it.
Watch you 1:45 screen time, without stopping, on the poster for this film and, believe me, the time would have been better spent. Do you go around, sticking out your tongue, the Chanel logo during the same time and voil?: your taste is not tarnished, your nerves are intact, your mind is rested, and the soul sings. They'll say thank you.
But the “gamma of feelings” from watching the discussed film epic will be completely different.
Here is a message and a brief from the creators, read (passing the logo and looking at the face of Audrey Tautou on the poster):
Almost two hours of fermentation on the screen to tell us: Once upon a time, they say, such a Chanel, oh, how interesting lived, however, you already know everything yourself, think it out, or we are lazy, and we do not know how. And anyway... What you're watching right now is, uh, "cinema," his, if I may say, "scenario" -- he was pulled out and stolen from the trash by our cleaning lady, ... what was her name ... oh! - Anne Fontaine. But it doesn't work for us anymore. Oops, sorry..
... I wish I could, but those are my dreams.
The creators of this film forgot that the dead are either good or nothing.
You better keep quiet. . .
About the filmed ending of the aphorism – “... nothing but the truth”, I do not dream.
I'm glad they didn't try.
I usually write at the end of my impressions of what I saw: pleasant viewing.
Summarizing and advising.
The film “Coco do Chanel” I again found in one of the selections of films about fashion. What can I say about the film: in general, nothing special, just tells the biography of Coco Chanel before her becoming a great fashion designer with her fashion house.
You may be interested in the true story and biography of Chanel, which is shown in the film. I will tell you that everything is the same, the biographies and plot of the film are absolutely identical, except for a minor point about the biography of her mother. But it doesn't really matter.
I want to talk about the actors separately. I certainly didn’t look at what Boy and Coco’s other men looked like, but I didn’t like Chanel’s Audrey Totu. She didn't look very good in her image. Especially in reality, in my opinion, Coco Chanel looks better than Totu who played her role. The actress does not have such an expressive appearance and wonderful eyes as the fashion designer. Totu really looks like a small boy with stupid black coals instead of eyes.
It is also important to emphasize the outfits that are present in the picture. The film depicts the clash of two fashion eras. Fashion is on the verge of revolution and balancing between the old and the new. It is important to note that Coco Chanel seemed to feel the new trends in fashion. I was also struck by one point from the film: Gabriel (real name Coco Chanel) very skillfully remakes men’s costumes into excellent women’s clothes.
In the end, what I want to say about the film: of course, it can be seen as an introduction to the biography of the great fashion designer Coco Chanel, but all the same information about her life can be read on the Internet, spending no more than 5 minutes, instead of a two-hour movie. There are a lot of pictures about Chanel, but I think it is not the most successful.
I got acquainted with the film by chance, once on August 19 on the TV100 channel this film was shown in honor of the birthday of Coco Chanel. He was very interested in me, Audrey Totu in the lead role, costumes, scenery, an interesting personality. After watching the film, I was very interested in this person and her story.
The plot of the film introduces us to the early biography of Coco Chanel, all focused mainly on the time when she was not yet a famous trendsetter, not yet created her masterpieces and not received world recognition, but was only a girl named Gabrielle Chanel, who received her nickname later because of the song Coco.
The whole film is very deep and slow, time seems to have frozen at the beginning of the 20th century, in a time of rich techniques, extensive engineering and complicated women's wardrobe, huge hats and dresses with corsets. Throughout the film, the heroine Audrey Totu criticizes the clothes of noble ladies, meets and starts romances with men. We are told her story in the shelter with her sister, with whom a lot of screen time is also given.
Audrey Totu in this film played amazing, not without reason after this film she even became the face of the brand of French perfume Chanel No. 5. Her resemblance to Coco Chanel is great. Her character does not know what she wants to do, she is tired of being just a singer in front of the guests of Etienne Balzan, she decided to give up a better life with money, in endless entertainment and open her own business - her own store. You can see that the actress feels very good about her character.
The relationship with sister Coco is very vague, they worked together in a cabaret, but her sister decided to take an easy way and went to live with the famous officer in Paris, despite all the persuasion of Coco.
The most interesting love line in this film is the line of Coco and Arthur. She loved him, but he preferred the daughter of an English industrialist. And so in the most intriguing dialogue, Coco said to herself and him:" Better to be a mistress than a wife. The worst thing about marriage is marriage itself. “She learned from life experience that it is very bad to love when you feel bad. And did not want her or him to be as bad as her mother, because the father of the main character always cheated on his wife.
In many films about famous personalities, there is a moment when the history of the person and all her works are presented to the viewer in the best form and 100% revealed. Such a moment is present here, at the very end of the film, there is a moment when all the masterpieces of this wonderful woman are on the catwalk, it is thanks to such moments that you begin to read in depth the biographies of famous people, it is because of such moments that you enrich your knowledge, you learn who could come up with extraordinary things that are ordinary in our time.
So, soon after “Coco Chanel” – a Franco-Italian film of 2008 – there was already a Franco-Belgian film dedicated to this legendary woman. But stated as a story from a different angle, which is not quite true. First, the milestones of Chanel’s life before the founding of the Chanel House are present in both films. Secondly, her achievements in the fashion world are shown in the second biography, albeit in the most general plan.
You can’t really call these films similar. Images of heroes, their behavior and motivations vary greatly. Let's start with the central actress. According to external data, Audrey Totu is very suitable for the role of the main character. But the problem is that she has too much personality. I've seen her in three movies, and in all three, she's performing variants of urban savages. Here, she's just more sullen and less naive, so you're always waiting for her to explode and cheat. And when she smiles suddenly, in most cases, you feel a trick. I don’t think this character colored the heroine. Nevertheless, from the first frames of the film, a whole image is formed - isolation, disbelief in romance, the desire to break out of poverty, a sharp tongue and practicality. All these qualities, it would seem, should have led her to success very quickly - faster than the heroine Barbora Bobulova, who at first was more sailing with the flow. But success didn't come immediately. First, for some reason, it took a long time and, by the way, of their own free will to please Etienne and his friends, then for some reason to accuse him of stupidity and laziness (which was followed by a reasonable offer to free themselves from his house and company), to be afraid of longing and even think about the career of an actress. The idea of a hat shop is presented to her by another man, Etienne’s ex-girlfriend, and Gabrielle Chanel tells her, “I don’t want to do this.”
And this is where the image, in my opinion, gives a serious crack. Yes, Chanel was an ordinary woman, and her behavior could be illogical, confused and whatever, but making a film about a fashion legend from any angle, you still need to respect her hard work and interest in her work, without which she would have achieved nothing. The problem with this picture is not that there is little fashion in it. Fashion is shown as a way to fill time, distract from sad thoughts, not even as a way to make money. It looks weird. Considering that the heroine Totu made almost no effort in the film for success and fame, the pathos of the last scene are incomprehensible and alien to my consciousness. This transfer to the distant future of Chanel was, in my opinion, superfluous.
As for the men, I compared them to the images from the previous film, so Etienne was likeable to me, and Boy was not. Etienne here is ugly and not always pleasant, but charming, easy to handle and not lying to women. And the fight is both externally and behaviorally spoiled rich son, in which just does not feel the independence of a business man. His dashing mustache and his upper lip, always raised in a weak-willed smile, made me think that he wanted to appear more intellectual than he really was.
In some places, the film is more frank, but in general it is shot colorfully and even refined. It's extremely aesthetic. Some shots are perceived as works of art and carry hidden symbolism - for example, a shot where little Gabriel stands between the columns and looks at the guests leaving the monastery. Very expressive is her dark figure between the columns, breaking their clear symmetry, a sign of mental confusion and lack of harmony. This contemplative beauty combined with lyrical music involuntarily impresses and reconciles with individual moments. Operator’s work is worthy of the highest appreciation. Audrey Thoth is praised for singing songs and convincingly showing grief. If only Audrey Totu could see Coco Chanel with its more elaborate storyline! At least it would be interesting to look. But what is, is.
How clever you are, Anne Fontaine, for not being afraid to make a movie about a great woman! Of course, the latest technologies allow us to learn the life of a person, based on historical references and documents, especially when it comes to the powerful. But most people do not bother to dig into the archives, with rare exceptions. And it's quite another thing when you make a film about a person whose name is popular by right. Maybe not everyone is familiar with the works of Coco Chanel, but since the brand of perfume was named in her honor, the life of this person is certainly worthy of attention and deserves closer study than the lives of other people. And who better than Audrey Toth of the modern fair sex, tell us the story of the life of his more eminent compatriot.
And the painting by Anne Fontaine came out on sight, frankly. Maybe there are some inaccuracies or not quite verified information, but I would not like to focus on such details, because what I saw I really liked. And I saw a young woman, penniless in her pocket, who had to live in a monastery and at the same time sings in a cabaret. And this is understandable, because youth, the wind in your head, you want to play a little tricky and at the same time cash will never hurt. But the essence of course is not in this, but in the fact that in this very cabaret she met one wealthy and wealthy gentleman (Benoit Poolward), who in the future will play an important and not the last role in her life.
Perhaps Anne Fontaine did not pay much attention to the thorny path from which the life of an artist is formed, and that Coco Chanel was an artist of her craft is as clear as that she was an amazing Frenchwoman. As a result, the film turned out to be lightweight, but this is its beauty. In the picture you can see subtle humor and irony, a simple French song about Coco and, at the same time, see the artist’s workshop, its taste and ability to surprise both women and men, as far as clothing is concerned. The film will be useful to women as a guide to the development of taste and style, and without this anywhere in our lives.

The film interested me after the phrase in the trailer “I will sew the whole world!”, but left a bad aftertaste. I was very surprised when it was written on TV that the film would be over in just 20 minutes and Chanel’s life hadn’t really started. As a result, the whole film is a beautiful description of a couple of novels, but not the life of Chanel (as the title suggests).
You know, in the autobiographies of great people, at some point you start to feel euphoric. That he, a genius, turned the world inside out! I waited 2 hours for that revolution in my mind. But I didn't. And movies about novels can be made about other women. About the same Marlene Dietrich.
In general, the usual snot of a French woman, but not Gabrielle Coco.

Unspeakable grandiose aphorisms of the humble daughter of a merchant.
I saw this movie a few years ago by accident. I liked it because I didn’t know anything about Coco. But recently I strangely wanted to read a book by Henri Guidel about the life of this woman. And then I watched that movie again. It's no good, my opinion just soured.
Every successful person’s life consists of ups and downs. Coco was no exception. No exception so much that now the common word "Chanel" somewhat excites even people who are not in any way related to fashion (that is, me). Therefore, I wanted from the film to get exactly the history of the formation of Gabrielle as a fashion designer (which, in fact, and should have in mind the preposition "before" in the title). Yes, it shows the orphanage where she grew up without her parents, the cabaret where she got her nickname, and other events that affected her life. Unfortunately, the topic of the catalyst was never revealed. The moments of her life remained some background, to some extent not related to the Grand Madame.
And the trouble is that the emphasis of the script was placed not on the successes of promotion in the career ladder of Coco, but on the personal, intimate relationship of Gabriel. There is no doubt that throughout her life, relationships with men played an important role in the hats she created, and later in the costumes. But the film presents this fact to the viewer as if nothing else in her life existed. But it would also be possible to close your eyes if this narrative were closely intertwined with progress in work. But I was incredibly infuriated by the change of frames in the film: first her close friend dies, and then she sits in her famous mirror apartment. That is, a person who does not know (who I was before) might think that the loss of a man made her exactly what she became. I was even in some ways offended that, they say, she grieved a little, rose up and began to sew left and right masterpieces of the XX century, and purposefulness and unshakeability in her was not at all.
As for the filming itself, I have no complaints - a good French-Belgian film saturated with the atmosphere of the time. Adding to this warm tones, unobtrusive music and unquestioning play of actors, we get a high-quality European picture.
In fact, I was only disappointed by the story. The film itself, in general, is not bad, so I’m putting it.

The movie is beautiful! The most important thing in this film is beauty! The beauty of everything together and separately of every little thing. The beautiful Koko (Audrey Totu) is fascinating. But knowing how Coco was before Chanel gives the impression that Audrey is too warm and radiant for this image.
For those who want to enjoy the movie, watch it. Very competently staged film, there is nothing to complain about. Every look and position is as it should be! The main actor and love of life Koko is also magnificent - a perfect image. We're watching a beautiful story with a pretty lady. The fairy tale, gaining momentum, breaks down on the highest note - landing us and bringing us back to life. Coco do Chanel becomes different, having won the established character, fame and recognition around the world. A film about the beauty of those times, about a strong woman, about love and a little about hats!
I'll start with what I expected to see. And I expected an unparalleled, or at least a good drama in the style of biography, where there would be the character of the great lady Koko and her sincere love for a man. At least the trailer promised us that. And everything seems to have happened, but you can not call the film incomparable. And the problem is that the character of Gabrielle Chanel is completely unwritten and poor Audrey Toth had to play everything herself, without words and voiceover thoughts. And I will say that everything that depended on her, she did very talented. And here, perhaps, I do not agree with the numerous opinions of reviewers that Audrey is a bad Coco. In my opinion, Audrey was able to convey the whole range of feelings. Another thing is that she did not tear her shirt on herself and did not beat her hands in the chest from the rushing emotions. So it would be strange, given the modesty and restraint of Mrs. Chanel and Audrey herself! It is quite natural that she kept all her sorrows deep inside, and all her pain went into her work (suits), like many creative personalities. I admired, admired and will admire the charisma and unearthly appearance of this actress. I liked her in terms of looks and emotions.
The actors, in principle, all pleased with good and high-quality work. I would especially like to highlight Alessandro Nivolla. His character was the brightest of all and was on the level of interesting and charming from Chanel. The love line was successful.
But the plot seemed to me ordinary, undynamic, and simply boring. Everything happened slowly and with few words. It was depressing. The script also did not tell anything interesting about the Great Woman of the fashion world. Dialogues are simply written dryly, and sometimes it is not clear why someone says something to someone. Strange and strange again.
"Coco before Chanel" is a very weak film in which really good actors play. I certainly will not have the desire to reconsider it, since at the first viewing I struggled with sleep.

A wonderful film about the life of an amazing woman of her time, who took fashion to a completely new level.
The tagline of the film reads: "Before she became the famous French Mademoiselle..." And it really is, the film shows how Gabrielle Chanel became Coco Chanel, which had to go through how she eventually came to become a famous fashion designer. She was very unusual and stood out from the women of her time. It is no wonder that he has reached such heights.
Audrey Totu (Coco) is a very charismatic actress and this role was perfect for her. She perfectly conveyed the elegance of Coco. A strong role, Audrey is great, it is impossible to take your eyes off her, she attracts. Her belligerence and unlikeness admires anyone, she stands out from the crowd.
Benoit Poulward (Etienne Balzan) is an important character in Coco’s life. A rich simpleton who allowed her to live there without question and never regretted anything for her. You can say thanks to him, she met love, and in people knocked out.
Coco Chanel - simple, no frills, but with taste. That's her style. This is what she brought to fashion and what will remain for centuries.

A simple, charming and elegant film, essentially like Coco Chanel dresses.
After watching the film, I felt that the features of simplicity, rigor, spontaneity and naturalness that appear in Coco Chanel herself were present and created this film. It was the features that made the film, not the other way around!
It was obvious that the director tried to fully reproduce the time and show the mores, rules and values of the time, but he only fragmented it. Of course, the most important thing was to show the heroine of the film, her nature. But do not forget about the adjoining elements of the plot, since the film itself should not be divided into parts, but be one whole, present us with a general picture of vision.
The cast is good, played well and quality. However, actress Audrey Totu (Coco Chanel) played perfectly and naturally, unlike other actors, and showed the character, temperament and mood of Coco Chanel. The insight and depth of the quotes surprised and shocked the mind. I think that, of all the elements of the film, I put the vital quotes from the film in the first place.
In general, I can say that the film leaves a feeling of confidence and desire to see again and feel again.

This is a story of mixed emotions, where triumphs are colored into great sadness. Anyone who admires Chanel will be surprised to learn that she created herself out of nothing. This is a moment in the history of fashion when it is necessary to adjust the dress to the passage of time, which gave women freedom of action, movement and decision. And it's not the clothes that society expected of women, it's bold and daring, and like all genius is simple. Her creations live on and will continue to live on.
Gabrielle Chanel and her sister Adrienne left their father in a Catholic orphanage after the suicide of her mother. And so begins the story of a young woman who learned to rely on herself. A special number in the cabaret, where she sang, was a song about a dog called "Coco", funny and melodic, as an additional charm for the film, which gave that very name to Chanel.
The film doesn’t just focus on time politics. To a greater extent, we see the personal side of the future fashion designer’s relationship, her movement toward success, the struggle to fit into a society whose views and lifestyles were so different from her own, about her losses and suffering. She was a rebel. Refusing the offer to marry a rich man, Koko chose an adventure: went to Paris and opened a store selling hats.
Her recalcitrant disposition and desire to be first at all costs give the first success and recognition. She opens a revolutionary new clothing line: “Simplicity is the leitmotif of true elegance.” The main difference from most designers is that she represented a woman at the center of her creations. “I gave women a sense of freedom, I gave them what sustains their bodies; bodies that were soaked in sweat, because of fashionable outfits burdened with laces, corsets, underwear, etc.” It was her fate, coming from despair over her dysfunctional past.
This film is to some extent pure pleasure and contemplation, it appears before us as a journey into the life of the upper classes. Their lives are shown as frivolous and frivolous, devoid of meaning and any achievements. Balsen’s words confirm this: Work is not the “worst way of life,” but “it is certainly the most boring!” The final 15 minutes of the film are unforgettable as Koko experiences an array of emotions, from unbridled romantic love to relentless intense work dictated by her desire to be the best. Seeing her sitting on the steps of the stairs and watching her highly focused look at her creations, you enjoy her triumph, because most creators of their business strive to achieve such success someday.
Audrey Thothou looks little like Chanel, but they still have a lot in common: besides being both condensed as “condensed” Frenchness, they both have a new need for freedom and value pragmatism. Obviously, this is one of the most important roles in Audrey Thoth’s work, and the image in which I will remember her. I like a few of her phrases: “If people want to be together, they need to give up ambiguities, from ambiguous words and actions”, “The future for me is a bouquet of incredible discoveries”, “It’s easier for me to do than plan and discuss plans” and another one that really unites Audrey and Coco: “I believe in God, but I can’t completely trust him.” I live on my own. And all my fairies go to work and get paid.

Emotions, dialogue, music, outfits - everything is at the highest level.
The film is not only about how Gabrielle became a great fashion designer, but also about the people with whom she intersected in the course of her life development, Self-Development.
Audrey Thoth's great performance. I can't imagine anyone but her in the role of Coco. Audrey was able to show not only the strengths, but also the weaknesses of the main character. She is the epitome of elegance!
Also one of the advantages is landscapes. It is a real pleasure to see such beauty.
For myself, I would single out such films as a separate subgenre of biographical cinema, which is most appropriately called “stories of strong women in the male world.”
The most famous such films of the beginning of the 3rd millennium, of course, are "Life in the Pink" and "Frida".
Of course, different films, but with a common idea, a common refrain, a common message.
And against their background, unfortunately "Coco do Chanel" is somewhat lost.
With “Frida” there is no sense to compare, so the film is bright and emotional, the best in its style. But “Life in the Pink”, to which, to be fair, I also had many questions, the tape “Anne Fontaine” obviously loses.
The difference in the power of the images of the main characters is huge. Either Edith Piaf herself is more colorful (externally, which is important, we do not talk about the strength of personality), or Marion Cotillard how well she got used to the image, but many shortcomings are compensated by acting.
In the story presented by Anne Fontaine, there is no such obvious acting core.
I really like Audrey Thoth, but this is not her strongest role, Chanel turned out to be quite superficial, we can not always understand her. Men have a similar problem, they play well, but we do not fully understand them.
I’m not sure that it is worth criticizing the cast, most likely, the characters are under-revealed in the script.
Moreover, there is another point. In the case of Piaf or Frida Kahlo, there was an element of not only spiritual but also physical coping. And this is a very powerful line that an actor/actress can cling to. In the case of Chanel, there is no such thing, only emotions remain.
But the main drawback I would call the zeal of the plot (and "Life in the pink color" also strongly sins this).
The chronology is not very clear, the development of events is crumpled. For example, a long romance with Arthur Capel is presented fleetingly, when in reality it lasted about 10 years.
The main advantage I would call the visual component. Beautiful landscapes, a good reconstruction of French life of the late 18th - early 19th century. It's nice to watch. Artists and operators can easily be charged 5 for their work.
The film is good, beautiful and high-quality, but not the best in its genre. Perhaps if I had watched the above tapes in reverse order, my review would have been different.
