This is an up-to-date movie! As a fan not only of the classics of Hollywood, but also of the French and Italian cinema of the past, I couldn’t miss Dreams on the Roads, especially with two great artists. After a while, I can say with confidence that the film is very good. It does not even have a touch of naivety characteristic of the paintings of that time.
Italy of the late 40s and early 50s was frankly not a powerful and successful power, at least in comparison with Japan and America. And the movie "Dreams on the Roads" is a very good proof of that. It shows the life story of one man who is trying to find a job, but did not succeed in this business, as a result of which quarrels and scandals often occur in the family. Don’t we Russians understand that a love boat beats against everyday life every day?
So our Paolo is not so smooth in the kingdom of Denmark. And Linda, his wife, constantly nags him for not being able to buy their child a meal. They are divorced if it were not for his majesty. One day, Paolo looked into his friend’s garage and a tipster suggested he steal a rich man’s car. Paolo hesitated, but when you don't have a penny in your pocket, it's hard to be honest and principled for a long time. As usual, the Italian adventure begins.
The main characters are played by Massimo Girotti and Anna Magnani. And so cool and authentic they show their characters that not for a second do not doubt the fate of their befallen. We often love beautiful heroes and go to the cinema to enjoy beautiful camera work, the work of a costume designer, makeup artist. With her hand on her heart, Anna Magnani is not the cover woman, in my subjective view. But the way she plays and gets used to the role of her heroine is worthy of deep respect. There is everything here: the inherent Italian temperament and sharpness and tenderness, there is everything except falsehood. That’s why you watch such films as “Mama Roma” and “The Most Beautiful”.
Summing up, I can advise to see this picture not only for fans of Italian cinema, but also for all those who appreciate real art.
