Spiders are coming. Cheap horror stories about monsters, including insects, number in the hundreds, but few people managed to repeat the success of the first “Starship Troop”, and maybe even nobody, because films of this type are usually shot for TV, not for the big screen, and therefore differ in poor special effects and pseudo-smart dialogues pronounced by scientists in the scenery of laboratories, where, according to the plot of the film, monsters are created for bioattack, or the action takes place on unremarkable landscapes where monsters, as a rule, woke up from ancient people and opened up. Few people like such uncomplicated spectacles, except that schoolchildren, barely getting to the horror films, praise such tapes (I know for myself, I once sat on such films, and in comments on the pirate site desperately defended them). If I had seen Arachnid, say, in 2010, I would have been thrilled, because I was an inexperienced spectator who did not distinguish between expensive special effects and cheap ones, and judged a horror film only for having any effects, no matter what quality. Now I am able to appreciate any film of this direction, and we are talking about a typical ordinary horror film, which is well praised in the magazine “Telepark” in the description placed on the list of films broadcast on the cable channel, which I could not see then, in 2010, and hands reached it a few years later, when I had long learned to watch movies on the Internet. The spectacle, I will tell you, is not expensive and chic, but it was worth seeing it, because the efforts of the special effects masters are noticeable, however, not from the very beginning of the film - in the beginning I just wanted to turn it off.
At first, everything, as usual in the most low-grade films of this type: banal dialogues, cheap special effects, or even their absence, is an uninteresting plot. Several scenes were hooked, such as the scene in which one of the members of the special group caught a spider and, while treating it with his chemicals, acid was dripped on his hat, which I realized was emitted by those giant spiders mentioned in the description; and the scene in which a woman fell down a spider hole, and two colleagues pulled her out. It looks good how a person was attacked by small ticks and settled under his skin, and then came out through his mouth and eye - "ugly, but spectacular and original". Well, for the dream of one of the heroines, in which she sees how her friend mutates into a spider, it would be possible to put a test if not for the general imperfection of the film, namely the fact that the origin of mutants is not disclosed. But for the final fight with the spider still thank you, because it was made, surprisingly, very exciting.
Of course, we are not a masterpiece of cinema, and it would be foolish to compare with the masterpiece of the first part of the “Starship Troop”, which showed the triumph of computer graphics and shone with an original exciting plot, but if there is extra time, and if you are not tired of “bugs” on the theme of crawling bloodthirsty creatures, then it is worth looking, only the first 20 minutes can be safely missed, because they do not carry anything in themselves. In some places, the film shocks with naturalistic special effects, they pull the banal plot to the general average level. But I don’t want to watch it more than once.
