Immortals: War of the Worlds is a French science fiction film directed and comic book director Enki Bilala based on his own comics Trilogy of Nikopol.
The film takes place in New York City in 2095. Eugenics Corporation wields great power throughout the world and trades in illegal experiments on humans and aliens. Among the next batch of test subjects, which "Eugenics" gets its hands, is a strange girl of inhuman origin Jill. Above the city hovers an unknown pyramid, inside which the gods of ancient Egypt Anubis and Bast decide the fate of Horus and come to the conclusion that his rebellious antics are unacceptable and should be punished, sentence him to death. They give him seven days so that Horus can see humanity for the last time and say goodbye. In the course of seven days of his life, the god Horus seeks a suitable body for himself. And this body is the famous revolutionary Alcide Nikopol, who was frozen in a cryo-prison for 30 years. Partially taking control of Nicopolis’ actions, Gore forces him to search New York for a woman capable of conceiving a god. It's exactly Jill.
For starters, Enki Bilal himself. He is primarily a French artist and comic book author of Serbian origin, who is best known for such graphic novels as The Trilogy of Nicopolis and The Tetralogy of the Beast. Bilal’s early works were greatly impressed by Mobius’s work. The main genre of Bilal’s works is science fiction with elements of dystopia and cyberpunk.
In 1989, Enki Bilal made his directorial debut with Bunker Palace Hotel. A rather useful niche film in the style of dieselpunk with interesting thoughts and a good simple plot. Bilal also made Tiko Moon in 1996, but I have nothing to say about it. I didn’t really like the movie and it was a bit boring to watch compared to Bunker. His last film to date is Immortals: War of the Worlds.
As for Immortals, I really like this movie. The main advantages of the film are the style and atmosphere. The atmosphere is very good. The film perfectly immerses the viewer in its bizarre world of the future and does not let go to the credits. The musical accompaniment is excellent and well complements the viscous and melancholy atmosphere. The technical side of the film is not bad, although the graphics and animation are sometimes outdated, but for 22 million euros and in 2004 it looks good. The visual in the film is very good. The green color scheme is perfectly selected. There are quite good memorable scenes in the film. Also in the film there is a good camera work. Actors are good. Linda Hardy and Thomas Kretschman did well with their lead roles Jill Bioscope and Alcida Nicopol respectively.
Of course, the film is far from perfect and is not without flaws, both technically and in the script. It has its own shoals and rustle, sometimes there is an understatement, but this does not negate the fact that the film is stylish and atmospheric in its own way. Overall, this is Enki Bilal’s best film, especially when compared to comic books.
The film is based on the first two volumes from the trilogy, namely "Fair of the Immortals" and "Trap Girl". In terms of plot and characters, the film is very different from the comics. The action of the comic takes place not in New York, but in Paris. Jill is a young journalist who witnessed the murder of her lover John. That's why she takes John's pills to forget about her pain and relationship with him. Alcide Nikopol was not a revolutionary in the comics and spent 30 years evading conscription. If the comics were more of a dystopia about Paris 2023 under the rule of a fascist dictator and infested with aliens, then the film is a classic biopunk. Eugenics Corporation practices prohibited experiments on humans and aliens and establishes control over them. But despite this, the changes did not hurt the film much, as the atmosphere and style of the comic book were perfectly conveyed on the screen. And this is not surprising, because the author of the comics Enki Bilal made the film. I also like comic books. They are interesting, fascinating and stylish, especially drawing, although there are also its own shoals and roughness.
Of course, you should not expect a megamasterpiece movie and a blockbuster with a bunch of action per square meter. This film is quite niche and authorial, and the film has more similarities with Blade Runner than with the usual Hollywood fiction. As in Ridley Scott’s film, there are not many events in the film, and the whole politics and structure of the world fades into the background and serves as a background for the story. The film focuses on the characters, their relationships and simple ideas and thoughts. Let slightly pretentious, sometimes vanilla, but interesting thoughts.
Bottom line: Immortals: War of the Worlds is certainly not a masterpiece in the genre of fiction, but a rather interesting and stylish film that perfectly immerses in the atmosphere of the world of the future and tells a simple peculiar story with interesting ideas and thoughts, and with interesting characters by itself. For Enki Bilal, this is his best film and he did well with it.

In 2004, the phrase 'medical dictatorship' seemed a little odd. Today, we live under a relatively mild medical dictatorship. What's next?!
The movie died at the box office. Someone threw tens of millions to the wind, giving a little-known Serb a voice. Charles Gasso has produced 31 films. He's not new to the film industry. What do Europeans want to say to the world?
Let's start with the title. The French film was called "Immortel, Ad Vitam". Literally translated: “Immortal, to life.” And the title of the film could be translated as "Life of the Immortals" were it not for the full Latin expression "Ad vitam aut culpam," which is part of Roman law and means "for life or until the first guilt." But the filmmakers threw out the second part of the sentence. Understand as you wish. Immortal laws are not written?!
So what's this movie about? For me, it is simply that there is no guarantee that every living woman reading this or watching this film will be a goddess who has forgotten her nature, and that every living man will be a God who manifests his nature. We are all participants in immortal games! Perhaps...
How do you like that message? Ready to take it?!
Except there are very few people alive. Even God has to work hard to find a living man. Living women have the same problem. Test yourself, are you alive? Or have you already bought Chinese lungs at a reasonable price?
'No love, no sex!' is one of the taglines of this film. The slogan of the modern era?!
It's hard to rate such a movie. Thank you, Universe, that there is still old Europe. And there is French cinema.
If you want to see how you can scold genetic modification, eugenics and get acquainted with outdated ways of using computer graphics, then this movie is suitable for you.
Studios of the three countries hung a space pyramid over the American metropolis and released for a week in the mutilated world of 2095 Egyptian Mountain. And that's where it started!
The essence of the case: Mountain was sentenced, before dying in suspended animation, he was entitled to a week of vacation, during this time he found a unique, very rare mother in the worlds for a descendant, moved into the body of a local rebel and ensured the continuation of the family.
A unique alien with the help of earthly medicine was humanized. After Gore stopped settling into a carrier person, her feelings began to stir with the rebel, Horus had a son, and the eugenic dictatorship, it seems, if not zeroed, then modified.
In general, the intrigue was successful, since Horus’s connection with his son allowed him to be both himself and his son, staying both in the sarcophagus and in the wild. And the nascent family of a humanized alien and an aboriginal became for the mountain chick the parents of the human part of his essence.
The rating of the film is positive, since it is easy to forgive the shortcomings of outdated computer graphics for fiction and style.
In fact, drew from the comics creatively, the style is good - you can screenshot any moment of the film and get either a surr picture, or something cyber or biopunk post-apocalyptic, or a picture-fiction with elements of grotesque, and even Bosch.
If you watch for the first time, do not be deceived by deliberately leisurely development, this technique allows you to fully enjoy the views and portraits. There is a lot to look at here.
If after 16 years, the film is visually pleasing and you don’t mind a mixture of fantasies about the gods of Egypt with caricature New York, then everything is fine – you will like it.
In 1992, the last book from the trilogy of graphic novels with the general title 'Nicopol' authored by Enki Bilal was born. It is a masterpiece that, in a very surreal manner, told about gods and people and warned about the future days of Paris. And in fact, any other city, which would be lucky enough to stop floating pyramid with Egyptian gods inside and what will happen if the gods decide to play people.
This novel became one of the most important works in the biopunk genre. It would seem that such a monumental work just had to be filmed. And took up such a difficult business himself Enki Bilal, who already had experience in film as a director and artist.
It was decided to move the scene to New York City and to base only the first two books. Thus, before us there is an extremely confused story, which is very difficult to understand in places.
Anyway, the events of the original novel in the film are filmed. For example, it tells the story of Alcide Nikopol, a soldier sentenced to hibernation, who by chance wakes up earlier and meets Horus, a traitor god who decided to feel himself in human skin. But why is practically not explained, whereas in the novel everything was subordinated to logic, although it gave off clumsyness.
And in parallel, we follow the story of Jill, a girl with blue hair, which the corporation ' Eugenics' decided to use as a guinea pig.
Enki Bilal as a screenwriter tried to adapt his magnum opus to the screen, but completely forgot that cinema is a completely different language. In this film, it is difficult to catch those brilliant ideas that the wonderful classic of French graphic prose told us from the pages.
This is what you can and should really admire in 'Immortal' — design. The color palette, the play of shadows, the general grotesque - all this creates a unique atmosphere of a terrible New York future, although it is slightly spoiled by cheap computer animation of the beginning of zero.
Otherwise, 'Immortals: War of the Worlds' is a very uneven, strange and complex work that will not give you the same sensations and delight that the graphic novel of the same Enki Bilal.
" "It's more than your eyes poison"
The green eyes in which the light of my soul has gone out
The attempt to join them failed -
The thread broke.
But everything has faded before you, Gil.
The silence of time, the greatness of lights,
And the soul torn in half,
I cast her into oblivion to other worlds.
As an epigraph, I took the words of the main characters from the last scene of a rather phantasmagorical and not trivial film “Immortel: Ad Vitam / Immortal (While Living)" or, as presented by domestic distributors of 80 levela, “Incalculables: War of the Worlds”.
The movie is very special, I would say. It requires a special attitude, otherwise everything will come down to the expression "after all the nonsense happens there." A kind of mythological cyberpunk turned out with a slight touch of surrealism. What is only a flying killer in the form of a red hammerhead shark with crab claws, getting out of the bath or toilet? And the vodka "Tarkovskaya" as it were like... This is the futuristic world of Earth. People are constantly replacing their organs and covers with synthetic materials. A lot of animated characters are people who have nothing left of their own except “I.” Modified by nanotechnology political leader, afraid to lose his power, and not the standard of beauty (say, improve, replace, increase – not a problem), and bloated and unpleasant, like the average official. It would seem so, but such are the realities. Above the city hangs a pyramid in which the Egyptian gods live. And we show only two - Anubis and Bastet. Master of Mysteries and Beauty. The order prevailing in the world under the pyramid is magnificently characterized. Soon Gore appears and has 7 days to... I won't spoil it. He enters the body of a rebel who escaped from prison, where he was freshly frozen for 30 years. And that's where the momentum starts. Not action, but the development of a storyline is not easy.
The film can be compared to the cult “Blade Runner”. But not as popular, of course. It has its own philosophy, there is something Murkokov in the elements of the individual - a hero who has made an alliance with the deity and suffers from illness. God gives the hero a new leg of steel, made by him immediately in the subway of rails (!!!!). As they say, hello to Coruma Silver Hand. I love a mix of mythology and cyberpunk, within reasonable limits, of course. This is a rare moment when the right proportions matched and gave an interesting result. Also in exchange for cohabitation in the body of the hero, Gore gives him a number of wonderful buns. But the price is very specific for all of this. Eugenics Corporation and the government begin their hunt for the unique.
The movie's got really bad graphics. This does not spoil the film and the plot, but the graphics are so bad. I recommend it to those who love unusual movies and futuristic dystopias. Semantic dialogues are not bad. Interesting music is there. It has not only philosophical connotations, but also a certain aesthetic. As Charles Baudelaire quotes in the film:
"Remember...
Remember what your eyes once saw.
A beautiful, windless morning
At the turn of the path ...
"Abominable flesh among the stones"
Legs spread out,
It's like a woman who gives in to passion.
And the flesh of poison exuded,
Like a fountain of combustible throwing.
And I heard him murmur.
Echoes of memories,
Touching the body in vain in search of a wound
I am a vampire in my heart.
I have forgotten how to smile.
Although the whole world is capable
Make yourself laugh. ?
Good time! What is good and what is bad in this film is not. Who are the gods? Some creatures living according to their unknown laws, understandable only to them. Let’s put it this way: the idea of the film that the earth was created and populated by people by some alien beings for some unknown business. Why did God the authors of the film explanations in their mouth did not put.
People who live in this world of the future are rather dull and gray, and therefore often painted. Sins in society are shown all the same: dictatorship, corruption, profit. I didn’t see any interesting characters in the background. There are no extra characters, interesting for empathy too.
The main characters Jill and Nikopol most often the situation is not clear, and what to do if nothing is clear at all dark forest. As they say: “It’s bad when you don’t know, and even forgot!” The only thing that is clear is that they are toys in some unknown games. And since the rules of these games are unknown, this gives rise to passivity and doom in them. Doom that will be as the gods will, in my opinion, the red thread of the film.
Mr. Horus is in general the hardest, for no one knows how you feel when your immortality is over.
The surrounding world of the future, invented by the authors, is externally pretty, but by the middle of the film you get bored and feel that you are in some computer game. Everything is so similar that you start amusing yourself with the search for improbability. For example: so much rust that it is not clear where the different plastics went? People move on foot or in a car. Gyroscooters, rollers and skateboards, for example, in this future there is no. The mass is dull and resembles the extra of a computer game, but only to be. The immortal gods play board games, cards, chess. For eternity, these games are not tired, because they are eternal games. Pun intended. Although the gods can be justified in entertaining themselves on every planet with what is known on this planet. I just found it boring that such incomprehensible gods play simple games. Law enforcement agencies are primitively stupid and financially inadequate. The eugenics plane workers are also ignorant. Forgetting a body part and not finding a motionless fugitive is unprofessional. It is possible to explain the behavior that God wanted. But then he could have wanted it much easier.
It's funny being a porter maid. About various town halls, commissar, etc. already said that nothing remarkable.
In my opinion, you can watch the film, but there is something to be interested and not carried away.

In Rome, they went to a bookstore, and there were books in different languages. I was interested, of course, in comics. Among them was a hardcover color comic by French author Enki Bilal (Enki Bilal, with Bosnian and Slovak roots). Drawing is so funny (this does not like, only his opinion, he also has many awards), but remembered that the film on this comic book has already seen.
What I remember about the movie. Unusual performance. Really. It was a big find. Combine computer graphics of CG characters and live actors. Moreover, the animated characters were specially given grotesque features, even more to highlight them against the background of live actors (or vice versa). In the film there were only 4 live actors (2 main and 2 minor). It was funny to see the live actors interacting seriously with the animated as if they were alive. Very interesting effect. I have never seen such an experiment again (a little similar can be seen in Blomkamp’s District 9).
An unusual name for the hero. "A, these, Nikopol" - I heard a phrase from my uncle. Nikopil - a city in Ukraine.
Unusual music. Very pleasant and dynamic. Now it seems primitive (too simple, simple samples), but at that time there was something. In a review from Woronessa de Lioncourt it was mentioned that the music was written by Sigur Ros, now a better-known Icelandic band. Be sure to watch their clips, they are as unusual as this film (not the fact that you will like, but unusual, especially about the fox).
Unusual plot. Uh, but it's very simple, fits into one sentence. As someone wrote: "Find and N%% woman".
An unusual bathroom. First made a 3D model, and when they began to assemble in the pavilion, it turned out that in reality it was huge.
Unusual borrowing. Quite popular was the fan video Mind.in.a.box – Change by Araxii.Respect, made from the cutting of the film. Also, it is possible that the cover of Mind.in.a.box – Crossroads was made based on a frame from the film and present in the video Araxii.Respect.
Unusual, what? The author of the comic book and the film invented the “shahbox” – a combination of chess and boxing, competitions in which have been held since 2003.
And yes, unusual how you got here. In YouTube discussed “Speedy driver” Wachowski, and What movies are still so unusual?
'The Immortals' and 'Blade Runner', with these films I have one story, started watching and turned off with irritation several times. It seems that I am a lover of extraordinary fiction, where there is little shooting, a lot of atmosphere and details, but well, I could not watch and everything is here.
Once I read that in 'Blade Runner' there is no plot and I found an epiphany!
I realized that this is a film, it just needs to be contemplated without thinking about the purpose of the characters. A miracle happened, I swallowed 'Runner' and now 'Immortal' but with them a little different.
In ' Immortal' the plot is still present, but serious problems with graphics. I was able to watch it only after I realized that people represented by 3D graphics replaced their organs and possibly skin (similar to rubber). It all made sense in the movie!
Why did I combine these two stories? Sometimes we are presented with something new and we are not ready for it. We need to mature or someone to explain to us.
Of course ' Immortal' most people won't like it, but it's no surprise.
1. Indigo-being Jill sent to our planet by the most ancient Supermind (humanoid monk "John") to save the Earth from decline and apocalypse.
2. The corporate system uses Jill to strengthen the financial and social status quo (prolonging involution and decline).
3. The ancient gods, banished by the System to the 6th dimension, where there is no gravity, only levitation, face the task of saving their noumenality. They use Jill to evolve their species and procreate.
4. The opposition of the System is Nikopol. He wants to change the world, but turns out to be a toy in the hands of Gods and the System, as often happens with revolutionaries.
Takes the imagination beyond all possible post-apocalyptic film “Immortals”. War of the Worlds (" While alive - immortal) immerses the recipient from the first frames in incredible magic, and the spark of genius, which spiritualizes any heap of sham from styles, costumes, music and terms, turns the picture into Art. Mystery, a stream of consciousness, subtle emotional touches through visual and musical nuances tangibly splashes in the air of a cinema or club, and the viewer understands that the City with horned gray skyscrapers and romantic streets is only one of the billions of ports around which Life pulsates, and our world is also infinite, and we are also immortal. The images of comic book artist Enki Bilal, artists Jean-Pierre Fouillet, Sophie Campbell, Mimi Lempic, the wonderful actress Linda Hardy, which we see through the projection of the camera of Pascal Jeanneso in the 3D effect, instantly, like a media bridge, send a signal from one Civilization to another, and our brain, as an information carrier, transforms this data by its personal recognizer of images of stream perception of information, and transmits its associations further into the surrounding reality, with strange glares and shadows, and some hipster, the world of the communicator, from which the main communicator, from which the communicator, from which an individualist, to the communicator, is to the world, from which the communicator, from which the main . And its atmosphere, exhilarating and incomprehensible, creates with the viewer that visual connect, - what only that futuristic fashion theater is worth, - tremble all the high-fashion houses and design studios of new urban studies, - the mystery and sound, where the exhilarating music of pubs in which the river flows "Tarkovskaya" vodka, for some reason causes vague memories in the soul - does this echo of previous lives - as if we had already lived in this world once - or the sweetness of the future, perhaps, when all this happened?
“Hartad Hamast” by Sigur Ros, their magnificent cyber-electro dupstep soundtracks make both memory and imagination tremble, and the musicians of Sigur Rous, Goran Weyvoda, who caught the musical trends of at least 10 years before their peak, suddenly break this psychedelic and surreal connector, and, despite the disturbing subconscious images of the archetypal gods of Egypt and cyber-technoshamanism, animating in the genetic memory of the game world and fantasy, where Jonah suddenly rushes to the scenery in the sky, and the dreamer, and the dreamer, and now it is thrown in between the gods, and the sky, and the sky, and the sky, and the sky, and the sky, and the sky, and the sky, as if it does not yet again.
The director and father of the idea - the famous French artist Enki Bilal, an alien culturetracker and mind invader, breaks the templates of the modern average consciousness of the Earth and immerses it in a phenomenal state, when any symbol, sign is perceived beyond the two-dimensionality or three-dimensionality of Space and Time, and immerses the viewer in what is happening according to the laws of psychology not terrestrial, but alien origin. Yes, and the film itself is a carrier of an altered state of consciousness, and visual effects use, as if the painter’s brush, the viewer’s brain, and the authors open to us, with this unique media technique, the gates of perception to our own borders, expanding the capabilities of our brain, and thereby in the synthesis of human consciousness and information carrier, a new augmented reality is created – exocortex. This is an undeniable innovation of the artist, and perhaps in the future, the project “Doctor Strange” Derrickson with Cumberbatch as a doctor, whose technocraticism is so close to witchcraft transcendence that the lines between them have dissolved, and, in the best traditions of technocybershamanism, the scientist returns to the mystery of primitive witchcraft instead of pure and lifeless science.
In traditional cyberpunk, this technique began to be used about 20 years ago: in the novels of William Gibson (" Count Zero), where the heroine goes into the Wirth without gadgets, or the works of Jeff Noon ("Wirth), where the brain itself is a gadget. In Pfister’s “Supremacy” (in the original language “Transcendence”), the encounter of humanity with a new version of itself through the fusion of the brain and computer is shown – the transcendence of the exocortex. And we already see the beginning of a new world: over the past 15 years, the art of augmented reality has appeared, a kind of virtual ceremony, where the use of the human brain or its biofield as a carrier of information is a commonplace of the future transhumanism, when virtual reality and the individual’s brain will unite into one state of consciousness. Today it is cyber art, social networks, new sites of artists, where collective work is practiced in a two- or three-dimensional editor, when an artifact of an image created simultaneously by several artists from their unconscious embodies a unit of information - in the form of reflection of dreams of several people at once, connected by portal transitions from the brain to the brain, and creating a cast of their collective personality in the form of space (3D), or plane (2D) as a new artifact.
The film differs from the New York hipster style, which influenced the cinema with a visual game with the psyche of recipients, is a tumblr reception with flashing screens or a cocktail of gif animation to ragged music. No, he turns to the soul, to the primeval, primitive by other methods, and maybe now the great-grandfather of gamer culture Enki Bilal is preparing a new bomb, more powerful than “Blade Runner”, creating which Ridley Scott was also inspired by his comics, and the new film will become stronger than “Suicide Hall” or “Existence” and will be no less fascinating than the new series of the Wachovskys “8 Sense”, where the exocortex was beyond the 3-dimensional earthly world.

“I will forever preserve the form and the immortal order.”
Immortals: War of the Worlds (or the more correct translation of Immortal: Forever) is another movie. The very famous European cinema that you either love or hate; the film for which you need to adjust from your usual vision, to adjust yourself. Enki Bilal, the author of the graphic novels on which the film is based, he is a director and writer in one person, created something that is difficult to compare. That’s good, that’s another question.
Mixing computer graphics and acting, sometimes disgusting naturalism and clearly realized fiction, the picture is a surreal and rather absurd mixture. A pyramid hovering over the city with Egyptian gods inside exists side by side with a corporation conducting eugenic experiments on human (and other) creatures. All this is adjacent to the ominous “death zone”, which is located in Central Park. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to New York City 2095! The graphical component of the picture leaves much to be desired in some places; for the modern viewer it will be like a striking ridiculous farce - all the characters except those played by Linda Hardy, Thomas Kretchman and Charlotte Rampling are created by computer graphics (and before Cameron's Avatar for another 5 years, so draw conclusions!).
It is a reality on the verge of madness, a nightmare slowly turning into an erotic dream; fragments of fantasies mixed with unspoken ideas and innermost thoughts. Enki Bilal explains absolutely nothing, leaving the viewer with fewer questions than he would like. With all the complexity, twisting of the plot of the film (the basis of the comic book is clearly visible), it is extremely clear and understandable. Every viewer will understand what is what, but not everyone will understand: for what?
Really, for what? Flavored with Baudelaire and the Slavic name of the protagonist, this dystopian biopunk (reminiscent of its “animal” component of Cronenberg’s “Existence”) seeks to convey three things: trust higher forces, accept your essence and seek the truth. The first director expressed through the prism of the relationship between Nikopol and Gore; the second - showing the story of Jill and her path; the third, and the most elusive of all, a subtle line goes through the life of the main character, echoing the brief story of Inspector Frobe. But each of us will take his own from the film, as usual.
I admit that this film is not close to me. But I cannot but admit that the picture has its own charm, its unsurpassed charm of European cinema. The picture does not become a cult, as well as not get into the gold collection of classics. But at the same time it is so vivid and extraordinary in its extraordinary film, which the viewer is unlikely to review again, but perhaps will remember throughout his life.
What are people? Mortal gods.
- What are the gods? - Immortal people. (Lucian)
Surrealistic cyberpunk – this is how I see the genre of this picture. A fascinating film with a hypnotic atmosphere, a mixture of “live” actors with computer animation.
Against the background of a rotten world, genetically modified people and monsters, a pyramid with ancient Egyptian gods, for whom there is neither time nor space, soars from nowhere. A kind of synthesis of science fiction with religion.
By coincidence, Anubis and Bast sentence the god of heaven Horus to death and give him seven days to see humanity for the last time. And Horus does not miss the opportunity to settle in the man of Nicopolis, with the help of him to “charm” the strange girl Jill, of extraterrestrial origin, with blue hair and white skin, but capable of giving birth to a divine child. This is how the two storylines are interwoven into one.
Magnificent acting, dramaturgy, stunning musical accompaniment, poems by Charles Pierre Baudelaire, hypnotic atmosphere - all this makes this film chic.
A film for an amateur, it is unusual, but in its own way interesting, it has its own individuality, and, most importantly, soul. I liked it.
A very strange animated picture, shot by the author on his own graphic novel. Let's be honest - films based on graphic novels (as well as on computer games) - are most often not completely understandable to viewers unfamiliar with the original printed material.
I was no exception, and for the first time I had the chance to see the Immortals & 39; not knowing about the background. After the first viewing, I found myself in a slight confusion: I simultaneously liked what I saw, and there was a feeling that half the story was not told to me.
It would seem that everything is in sight - there are small plot oddities, and simply not explained moments; the characters do not always have enough motivation, because of which their characters seem slightly flat; there is not enough background, and the afterword also explains not everything; uneven graphic performance (that the reason is in a mixed manner of performance - I learned later), and for any of these points you can already write off points, but...
But for all the claims - there's something atmospheric about this cartoon, which is why I've watched it five or six times over the years. Perhaps just at the junction of innuendo and difference in animation - a feeling of a sincere picture is born? Maybe. In any case, it is worth reading 'Immortal' to form your opinion
I will start with the fact that this film was watched for the first time when I was still a child, but I remember that it made a great impression on me and, as a result, was deposited in my memory. I was looking for him for a very long time, and when I had already lost hope of finding him, quite accidentally came across a poster and immediately realized that it was him.
Being at the moment under the impression and overwhelming me with emotions, I can be and can overly praise the picture, but only a little, because it is really amazing!
First, the atmosphere of the film, immerses itself completely, it is worth mentioning the most beautiful musical accompaniment, thanks to which this canvas is given a certain charm.
Secondly, the non-triviality of the film itself, its production, the mixing of genres, the plot, no matter how banal it may seem. All this is pleasant and interesting to watch, you find yourself, as it were, next to the characters, and the plot fades into the background, just want to contemplate.
Third, the characters, their color. Not the best graphics, personally, I quickly got used to, and it did not cut my eyes at all. The film has an emphasis on the atmosphere and it's done great, at least for me. You need to watch it with a certain attitude and in a cozy atmosphere, throwing away all thoughts and problems.
In general, summing up, I would like to say the following: The film, in my subjective opinion, is unique and deserves, at least, your viewing, and for me it will forever remain the film that made an indelible impression on me and which I will certainly review more than once!

The tribe of immortal gods and the tribe of people who walk on the earth are different.
The world of the film is designed in the style of biopunk, although we do not reveal the details. Eugenics Corporation, which supplies artificial organs, seems to control all areas of life and violate the rights of aliens and mutants. Against this protest the followers of Nikopol, a political activist thirty years ago, now imprisoned, or rather in a cryochamber. Over New York hangs a giant pyramid, the origin of which is unclear, and in Central Park appeared the Invasion Zone, leading, probably, to other worlds. There are Egyptian gods in the pyramid. One of them, Horus, is sentenced to death (the reasons for this are also vague), and he is given seven days to live in the world of people and enjoy it for the last time. At this time, Jill falls into the hands of Eugenics, a mysterious blue-haired girl of a clearly inhuman nature. She is spared from the fate of the experimental company by the doctor Elma, who, in exchange for agreeing to undergo experiments and observations, gives Jill documents and housing. And as a result of an accident (accidental) in the prison freezer, Nikopol suddenly finds himself free - and loses his leg. Horus, who had previously changed several bodies with a sad result for them (modified bodies cannot withstand the presence of God), makes a steel leg for Nikopol, and in exchange for this he merges with him. He needs a woman who can conceive from God in order to continue to live in his offspring.
Bilal amazingly managed to preserve the original visual style of his comics in the film. But for a reason - there is more computer graphics than field shooting. At first, I wanted to compare the film to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, but the relationship between reality and effects is even more unequal. Rather reminiscent of "Final Fantasy", which added several live actors and literally a couple of real interiors. That, on the one hand, fully allows you to repeat the aesthetics of the original, but in some places it seems slightly superfluous. For example, some computer characters are clearly living models, most of the characters created on the computer, quite logically, do not look like people, but why would you make such a senator and his entourage that look quite human, but because of the imperfection of graphics are just too obviously unrealistic and do not look like people? Isn’t it easier to find actors? The movie looks good overall.
Directing is even better. Both love scenes and chase scenes look great. The atmosphere feels great. From the gods who, sitting in the void, play (we do not immediately realize this) Monopoly, to penguins roaming the Invasion Zone, from Horus helping the half-hearted Nicopolis remember Baudelaire’s “Fall” to Jill devouring raw fish with cream. I especially liked the moment when Horus, who came out of Nicopolis, was greeted by the dayyak who was pursuing them with the words: “Oh, you must be Anubis, the god of the dead.” I admire you! ...
The film is strange, but certainly worth it. Fans of non-standard fiction should definitely get acquainted with it.
Indeed, cinema is not for fans of box office blockbusters and easy genre.
At a minimum, such people will be repelled by ' half-hearted' live film and animation. I was a little confused at first, but there's something about it. Reminds me of those few movies like 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' 39. It's not a minus. Of course, it would be great if the film was completely alive.
Great actors, beautifully created atmosphere of the future. It is so unusual, and thereby it conveys the feeling that we really do not know this world.
The effects and atmosphere perfectly complement the soundtracks. I was very happy to see Sigur Ros as a composer. This is the key to success for the film, in my humble opinion.
The theme of ancient Egyptian gods is also incredibly attractive. The image of Horus, the new friend of Nikopol, is beautifully created. Say hello to him.
Bottom line: if you want to watch a really unusual and memorable film - watch 'Immortals. ..' Wangui, you'll like it. This film will leave a lasting impression, a lot of new feelings and thoughts.
