It's a mystery to me, how can anyone like this? Everything sucks so bad. Total nonsense. But I didn’t watch it, maybe the last few seconds make it a masterpiece. But no. Do not watch this stupid abomination under any circumstances!!!
My way to see Borat was long and thorny. When many of my friends vying to retell each other fragments of this tape and quoted its main character, I just kept silent, thinking to myself that this is clearly not the movie that I will like.
However, two days ago, when the desire to watch some goofy comedy led me to a project by Sacha Baron Cohen, I was pleasantly surprised. Not that I agree with the view that this is one of the best comedies of the 21st century, but why it has become in some way iconic has become clear.
The fact is that in essence, Borat is one big prank: both over the audience and over those who appeared in the frame.
I'll explain. Prank on the people in the movie was that many of them did not know that they were acting in the movies, and the Kazakh reporter is actually an American comedian. So, in fact, some scenes are the same reality shows that are a pond of both television and the Internet. And watching someone find themselves in a stupid situation, which was planned by a cunning prankster - one of the favorite entertainments of mankind.
As for pranking over the audience, here I meant the following. "Borat" is a story that is heavily embedded in stereotypes and vulgarity. And if most of the viewers from the former USSR understood that the image of Borat in particular and Kazakhstan as a whole shown in the film is only incredibly inflated for greater humor hyperbole, then Western viewers, judging by the sharply increased number of tours to Kazakhstan, either took everything shown in Borat at face value, or simply heard about such a country for the first time and decided to see - and what there is at all, this is Kajas. Kazakhstan.
I have never claimed the level of a “connoisseur of subtle humor”, so I can honestly admit that during the viewing I repeatedly laughed (and sometimes even laughed) in my voice. With the exception of the episode in a hotel room with two naked men, during which I tried not to look at the screen, the humor in the film seemed very relevant, sharp and has a right to exist. Sacha Baron Cohen, of course, is very good as a writer and as a performer. As a screenwriter, he managed to weave together a story about how a Kazakh reporter found a new meaning in life in the bulges of Pamela Anderson, and various pranks with Americans. As an actor, he played a character who, in order to be funny, did not have to incredibly overplay and crook, but turned out to be enough accent, rather restrained facial expressions and text.
So, in my opinion, “Borat” though not a masterpiece, but absolutely deservedly received all the glory that fell on him almost immediately after the release.

A representative of a fictional country, Kazakhstan, travels to the world’s best country, the United States, to be taught how to solve “their social, political and economic problem.” The representative of the country is called Kazakhstan Borat, and he just loves sex, carries chicken in his bag, kisses everyone in the subway and on the street, shits on green islands in the city center, in general does everything that the most ordinary resident of the fictional country Kazakhstan does, but Borat also comprehends local customs and life, visiting different states.
At first glance, Borat is a satire film on Kazakhs or some Third World countries. However, in fact, this is a brilliant satire on the inhabitants of the best country in the world, the United States. Borat, as a person, is the embodiment of all the stereotypes about the inhabitant of some country, the name of which they hear either for the first time or for the first time after they forgot. This is not a first-rate satire, unfortunately. But she's good. Very good. I have no hatred for the United States, I have not been there and I am unlikely to be. But most of the modern culture is from there, and so all the jokes were understandable to me and seemed funny. Funny and even funny places. I laughed even though I was tired. It was especially funny that Kazakhstan is not actually the worst country with developed infrastructure, and Kazakhs are Asian in appearance. And in the film, Kazakhstan is a stinking village, and Borat and his neighbors look more like Georgians than real Kazakhs, being the personification of American ideas about other non-European peoples.
The plot of the film is very simple - Borat travels all over America. Maybe this is enough for a comedy, maybe with so much satire to cram a serious story not about finding sex and kidnapping a famous actress was difficult, but this is not enough for me, or rather it is not enough for a score on the evaluation criteria.
Shooting in the style of reporting allows you to immerse yourself in the study of the best country in the world, but because of this, the artistry in the visual component of the film is lost. The best balance for me in reporting and shooting was in the movie Stringer.
But comedy characters are very pleased with their satirical images. Let there be nothing in them but these images with a million satirical jokes. But it was still pretty good.
Excellent satire, worthy, however, the title of not a good film, but a cool video from YouTube.

Sacha Baron Cohen is a representative of such a direction in humor as Shock Comedy. The weapons of his caustic satire are aimed at the most relevant and hype topics. And each image aims to ridicule the most fundamental values of the consumer society. Borat proved to be a surprisingly convincing provocation and challenge for the civilized world. Because Sasha went skating on the Yankees and their mentality. But it's not just that. Next, I will share my impressions of acquaintance and some thoughts on this work.
A narrative criterion or narrative. A journalist from Kazakhstan studies and conquers the United States. A hooligan masterpiece mocumentary by Sacha Baron Cohen. Kazakh TV presenter Borat travels to the United States to report on the “world’s greatest country.” However, upon arrival, it turned out that the main purpose of his visit was to find Pamela Anderson to marry her, and not to shoot a documentary. Shocking Cohen takes on the alter ego of a journalist from Kazakhstan Borat and goes to shoot a documentary about the culture of Americans. The idea died and became a story about the love and friendship of peoples. The form of the road movie allows you to better reveal the interaction of Borat with the environment, funny humor turned out when Borat learned good manners and a meme episode where Borat does not listen and pilaf eats. Humor is strange and absurd, not everyone will like it. But satire strikes exactly at the goal and it is more understandable than in Bruno, since it is much easier to joke about a nation and understand it than it is about minorities. Rental in our country was prohibited, but the tape has dubbing. The moral is simple, unpretentious, but readable. Not buried behind bad humor. He is of different quality, but certainly not stupid.
Visual criterion or technical embodiment of the tape. The director and the cameraman made a good stylization of the picture under a false document. A little washed, it does not allow to improve the landscapes to the full extent, but there are few of them. There are references and quotes like the same Malibu rescuers. The soundtrack is interesting, I especially liked the title theme – Shukaria is right in the heart. The sound of gags works well to create a mood, visual vulgarity also takes place, but does not cut the eyes as in the next tape of Sasha.
The actors did a good job. But the challenge was not to see that work. Sacha Baron Cohen is good at the art of reincarnation, satire and mockery. His mouth utters the most incredible nonsense in the world, but it is easily justified by context. Andrey Sidelnikov wrote Borat and did it well, especially with regard to the accent, which managed to remove very accurately. Ken Davityan as Azamat is also remembered.
The artistic value of the film is small, but here they are trying to build humor according to the canons of the new school, this humor will not go to everyone, especially the champions of morality. But here the concept of the script is built in such a way that every flat joke is surrounded by the necessary context in which such humor will hit exactly the goal. Cinema is not for everyone, but if you want to experience new sensations, understand your perception of this kind of film, then the tape is worth dating. All health, peace and good cinema.
Borat is one of the “dumb” comedies of zero, which has acquired cult status both here and in the States. The film criticizes modern society, shows its lack of education and unwillingness to see other people's problems. Of course, Borat’s humor will not appeal to everyone, he is a bright representative of “toilet” humor, but here he is quite appropriate. It is interesting to observe the reaction of modern and tolerant people to the actions of their opposite.
Image:
A native of Kazakhstan, Borat comes to the United States to study their culture. He is the epitome of how the modern American sees immigrants. It shows that many people do not care about other people’s culture and values (although they are disgusting in Borat): low-developed countries for them are all on the same face. The homeland of the hero, of course, is greatly ridiculed, the way of life of people, their faith is distorted, but the film shows the problems of post-Soviet countries: corruption, lack of infrastructure, poverty and so on.
Plot:
Traveling around the United States, Borat meets various representatives of modern society. He meets both representatives of the American Dream and various minorities. Borat makes fun of their problems. His journey is interesting to watch: his antics make you smile, and funny plot twists are surprising. His trip was quite diverse and exciting. Borat in a humorous form raises the problem of friendship, love.
Borat is a tape that everyone perceives in their own way: someone sees in it an ordinary funny comedy, and someone more. For me, both perceptions are correct.
In addition to what has already been said, I want to add this idea: but the satire is not so harsh!
“Kazakhstan” is just a name, in fact, Borat is a resident of a fictional country, and the real subject of satire is the United States. Other reviews say that Cohen "walked" on America's problems. I don't quite agree with that. I think humor in terms of insulting someone's feelings is just very restrained.
Take the example of the Rednecks in the stadium (or is it the racetrack? the hippodrome?) Well, you get it, crusty, where he sang 'hymn'. On the one hand, their hatred of Muslims, their support for the war in Iraq, are ridiculed. But on the other hand, when Borat crosses the border, the public is not so willing to applaud him. The author shows that yes, they are all scoundrels, but scoundrels with a certain limit of permissible.
Another example: how black guys taught him to pull his pants down. Absurd, at first glance. But if you know the measure, it turns out quite ordinary, even in some respects stylish appearance.
I am not even trying to pretend to be a film critic, and, most likely, I am wrong, but I still have the feeling that the main idea that the author wanted to convey is the absurdity of ... the ridicule itself?
That is, you can laugh as much as you like at the vulgarity of, say, a skirt, as it does not cover anything, but only a small detail, its length, fundamentally changes the essence of the matter. You can pull a skirt around your neck for jokes, expose your pants or their absence - but no one wears it! The world is not black and white, it is more complex than just a set of stereotypes.
The author, like sophisticated software that improves the quality of photo-video materials with the help of artificial intelligence, somehow managed to accurately show the reality of what is by definition a distortion - satire. Maybe I just have low intelligence, but in my opinion, only a genius could do this.
9/10 just because the whole film I had to wrestle with where it was filmed, what language they really speak, and whether the culture of Borat has anything in common with the real Kazakhstan. Turns out not.
"If you buy a car, you'll have a baby magnet in it."
British comedian Sasha Baron Cohen came to popularity thanks to the images he created of M.C. Ali G, who was the central character of the program ' The Ali G' Show; dictator Haffaz Aladin, the host of the fashion program Bruno Gehard and, of course, the fictional Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiev. The images of Sacha Baron Cohen were permeated with satire that touched on social aspects, often relying on stereotypical views of society on a particular collective image from a comedian. At the same time, what still distinguished Cohen from his fellow creative profession is the burnt vulgarity, which was served with an unflappable appearance and ease. This was especially true of the character of the Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiyev, who played out the backwardness of the population, fictional traditions that frighten all progressive humanity, and a perverted attitude towards life and its values, where sex was discussed in its most disgusting directions as a matter of course.
And for the first time, Sacha Baron Cohen conceived of filming one of his images on the big screen in 2002 - so came the comedy ' Ali G in Parliament' which showed itself well at the box office: with 5 million euros invested in its production, ' Ali G in Parliament' collected more than 23 million dollars worldwide. And Sacha Baron Cohen became even more recognizable, which allowed him to enter the international arena and, as the future showed, it was no longer limited to comedic images and as an actor he proved his versatility. But it was not only Ali Ji, according to Cohen, who was supposed to get his own film, and in 2006 Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiyev received a full-length incarnation. It is clear that Cohen himself plays it, and Larry Charles was invited to the place of the main director, who did not have much experience behind his shoulders, but in the future he will also shoot comedies & #39; Bruno' in 2009 about the host of the fashion program Bruno Gehard and ' Dictator' about General-Admiral Haffaz Aladin in 2012. I do not need to remind who created these images, and specify who embodied them in the cinema.
But back to ' Borat', the film, the title of which we have shortened to one name, while in the original it sounds 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan', it can be translated as ' Cultural knowledge of Borat in America in favor of the glory of the magnificent Kazakh nation' The premiere of the comedy was marked by scandals when Sasha Baron Cohen was accused of bias and insulting the residents of Kazakhstan. After all, he showed them as short-sighted, gloomy people as if from prehistoric times, while the vulgarity that literally permeates every monologue, dialogue or action of the main character, as always, is presented with an unflappable appearance, as if Sasha Baron Cohen demonstrates the natural life of Kazakhs. Outrage, of course, grows with every second, but even the authorities of Kazakhstan soon gave up on ' Borat', saying that its author has never been to Kazakhstan and all he does is a crude caricature hype that has nothing to do with reality. That’s the way this movie should be.
Meanwhile, Cohen received ' Golden Globe' in the nomination ' Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical' and an identical Channel Award 'MTV'. In addition, ' Borat' was a contender for ' Oscar' in the category ' Best Adapted Screenplay'. Of course, this choice causes confusion, because to call ' Borat' comedy for everyone in any case is impossible - it is not only strictly contraindicated children, but the older generation can perceive it with all rejection. But there were those who called ' Borat' a new milestone in the history of comedy and the film can influence the formation of a new direction of the genre. But, as the future has shown, this never happened, yet, despite all the originality ' Borat' (let’s face it), the common sense of the public won - to bear constant vulgarity for a long time is not at all. But again, I have to admit that some of the episodes were funny. And the work on the image from Sacha Baron Cohen also deserves attention, because he made it expressive and definitely authorial, and it is possible that future comedians will adopt Cohen's work.
In general, ' Borat' causes a variety of sensations - from outright squeamishness, reaching even to complete disgust, to the recognition that there is no other such similar comedy, if we do not take into account the rest of the film adaptations comically from ' The Ali G' Show; from the British Sacha Baron Cohen. ' Borat' - clearly an exclusive phenomenon in the world of cinema, still causing gossip and heated debate. And everyone should express their own opinion - someone may call it offensive, and someone anti-snobbish, and everyone here will be right in their own way. And Sacha Baron Cohen achieved his – the whole world learned about Borat, and he himself began to be noted by critics from the jury of various prestigious film awards.

After 14 years, an angry tweeter, and everyone who could be angered, is released, the continuation of the film, which at one time also angered many people - both residents of Kazakhstan (although the film was able to increase the flow of tourists to this country), and residents of the Romanian village, which was posed as Kazakhstan, and feminists, and conservative Americans. It's easier to tell who the movie didn't make you angry.
However, this did not prevent him from receiving critical and audience acclaim, box office success and even an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. And this is despite the abundance of rather harsh jokes, which in the late 2010s try to avoid in every possible way, so that God forbid not to offend someone’s feelings.
The story is familiar to many lovers of comedy. Kazakh magazine Borat Sagdiyev (Sasha Baron Cohen) goes to Asashai together with producer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davityan) to shoot a documentary about America, taking with him the tears of a gypsy woman to protect against AIDS. But in the end, the plan is derailed when Borat sees on American TV a replay of the Rescuers of Malibu & #39; and falling in love with Pamela Anderoson decided to go to Los Angeles through the whole of Asashai to get her heart & #39;vaginai'.
And the main feature of the film is a pseudo-documentary shooting, where Borat plays out various situations with unsuspecting Americans. In the film there were only 5 actors, and all the others in the frame are quite real people. And just these people have to endure from a bizarre foreigner with a funny accent stream of ignorance, chauvinism, racism and anti-Semitism, revealing the viewer not the most pleasant features.
Despite the fact that Cohen chose Kazakhstan, which obviously has nothing in common with the real Kazakhstan, the main purpose of ridicule was precisely America. And here it really went to everyone - Democrats, Republicans, anti-Semites, sexists, chauvinists, feminists, homophobes, Randnecks, liberals. . .
Sensitive viewers are likely to turn this film off in the third minute, because from the very beginning there is a stream of jokes in the style of ' This is Urkin, the local rapist' or ' This is Natalia! She's my sister. The fourth place is the prostitute of Kazakhstan! Nraitsa!' of which the most innocent is about the problems of Kazakhstan, which are a bit: ' social, economic and Jews'. Well, many winged phrases that have become winged in certain circles may not be missed in the review.
As a result, we have a completely incorrect comedy with very harsh humor & #39; not for everyone & #39; which ridicules almost the entire American political and socio-cultural life, showing the vices of society through the ignorance of the protagonist. It was expected that such a combination could anger the most sensitive segments of the population.
At zero in the UK launched 'Show Ali G' in which Sacha Baron Cohen created excellent satirical images. One of the characters in the show was Borat Sagdiyev, a short-sighted journalist from Kazakhstan who speaks broken English.
The film ' Borat' tells about the trip of a very famous reporter in the country to America in order to learn useful experience. Sagdiev, along with his Sancho Panza named Azamat, travels all over America and talks to people who barely understand him, and he understands them.
At first it may seem that the picture shows us another boring mocjumentari with the eccentricities of the same Johnny Knoxville, but no.
'Borat' is a really dirty vulgar work where the character runs from one awkward situation to another, raising the degree of absurdity. But the image that Sacha Baron Cohen created takes us to some new level of comedy.
As for the accusations against this film, I disagree. Instead of Kazakhstan could be any other 'stan' on the territory of the former Union, do not take it personally. Kazakhstan is only a convention, and the funnier film is by no means ceases.
When the Benny Hill Show 39 closed and Rowan Atkinson's eccentric antics became predictable and less resourceful than before, none other than Sacha Baron Cohen appeared on British television, who managed to elevate British comedy to completely different heights that previously seemed something taboo and downright indecent. Being a native of a remarkable Jewish family, Cohen saw nothing shameful in ridiculing any nationality, including his own, and despite the fact that his projects found detractors, for the most part, the appearance of the comedian on the screens was accompanied by a furor, which made it easy for him to get his first high-profile contract to shoot. Having self-invented the image of the rude but persistent and charming jungleman Ali G, Cohen introduced him in a name television show in which he interviewed unsuspecting people forced to answer provocative questions. And just in 'Show Ali G' Cohen introduced another character to the public, who later gained cult status. It is not difficult to guess, we are talking about the Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiev, inspired by another hero of Cohen, now not well-known Albanian journalist Kristo. When Cohen had the opportunity to star in a full-length film according to his own script, he quite logically reasoned that he should again appear before the world in the proven image of Ali G, and the tape ' Ali G in Parliament' naturally gained success among fans of the risky actor. However, Cohen did not intend to stop there and decided to continue his return to his cult roles in full-length cinema, presenting in 2006 ' Borat', even more challenging weeks ' Ali G in Parliament' comedy, supplemented by an extraordinary subtitle ' Cultural knowledge of Borat in America in favor of the glory of the magnificent Kazakh nation'
So, the plot of the film introduces us to the Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiev (Cohen himself), who lives in his native town of Kushkeke, which is more like a completely seedy village, and among the locals is reputed to be a real celebrity. However, within the framework of Kushkek and even his native Kazakhstan, Borat is very close, and therefore, when the Ministry of Information of Kazakhstan instructs the hero to go to the United States to create a documentary, he simply cannot refuse, as this can open up special prospects for the journalist. On his way, Borat goes on a couple with producer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davityan), who also does not understand anything about what is outside Kazakhstan, but at the same time has the self-confidence necessary for such a responsible mission. So, having made up his wife and other relatives at home, Borat goes overseas to interview unfortunate, unsuspecting Americans and at the same time reveal interesting details about his own country. However, when Borat does arrive in America, he is faced with one insurmountable nuance that does not allow him to live quietly. After watching on TV one of the episodes 'Rescuers Malibu' Borat seriously falls in love with the performer of one of the leading roles, Pamela Anderson, and now his goal is Hollywood, where you can kidnap a beauty and then make her his wife. Thus, Borat goes on a journey, not forgetting to fulfill his main mission, which sometimes goes beyond the limits of what is allowed. But that’s why Borat once loved the audience so much 'Show Ali G' which means the more madness he creates, the more fun everyone has. In fact, almost everyone...
Sacha Baron Cohen is doing exactly what fans expected of him, namely pretending to be a real person in dealing with people who think they're talking to a real foreign journalist. Of course, some scenes 'Borat' look staged, because to shoot something completely unimaginable without the assistance of colleagues on the stage is simply impossible, and yet the team of Cohen did a great job, correctly building the story and recreate the exact entourage of real reports that we have seen on television. And of course, as in the best of his traditions, the comedian continues to focus on completely incorrect humor affecting national minorities, sexual orientation and gender issues. Cohen is not at all concerned about what he says to people’s faces, because the more provocation is shown in the frame, the more popular the film has. Of course, there will always be people who will not accept such humor, considering it cheap and simply offensive, but as practice and box office shows, ' Borat' managed to find his audience and turn into a real hit, which people on both sides of the ocean watch with great pleasure. At the same time, Cohen does not forget to make fun of himself, doing it sometimes excessively original, but since the comedian went beyond the bounds of everything decent in his work, there was nothing shameful either in riding the rink of black humor on his own.
To help in the implementation of the idea ' Borata' on the big screen volunteered Larry Charles, a very unusual director, whose career is constantly going through recessions, then the presentation. Like Cohen, Charles does not accept diligent, predictable humor and tries to saturate his projects with the maximum level of madness. That’s why his candidacy became almost perfect for putting on 'Borat' and propelling him to the masses. In some scenes, the director allowed his actors to move away from reality as far as possible, thanks to which ' Borat' received several scenes at once, which became no less iconic than the title character himself. Of course, first of all, this concerns the unforgettable fight between Borat and his producer Azamat. You will not see any shyness and humility here. Cohen, Davitian and Charles went all the way to the very end and created just an incredible spectacle, which certainly will not please anyone, and nevertheless understand the humor & #39; Boratha' the audience will be absolutely delighted with what they saw. Also, quite good episodes of the film fell on a cowboy rodeo, where Cohen properly ridiculed the Americans and, in fact, the main goal of the Kazakh journalist who decided to kidnap Pamela Anderson herself. And the main thing is that despite all the farce and absurdity, the film is strikingly natural and believable. That’s why Cohen needed Larry Charles, confidently managing the set and able to turn even the most frank absurd into something organic, incredibly funny and to some extent charming.
In conclusion, I want to say that 'Borat' stands out strikingly against the background of other comedy films. Sacha Baron Cohen has created his own genre direction in which he has no equal. The level of stupidity and absurdity in ' Borat' just skyrocketing, but it is impossible not to admit that the film is made skillfully, it causes a stir and invariably fun.
10 out of 10
And I would like to say that this absurdism, clearly imitating the era of Jay and Silent Bob, is as untalented as its forerunner. But, nevertheless, not possessing any resource reserve Larry Charles (together with the Cohen and even Todd Phillips), removes a pseudo-documentary picture not so much as a laugh, but puts there some sense. It may not be new, but at least laughing at yourself is a great talent. And Charles seems to be a good friend with self-irony. Actually, as well as the lead actor Baron Cohen, who is a Jew on the side of his father (yes, anti-Semitism here will also be joked).
In the whole image of Borat, a man who came from the depths of Eastern Europe, a completely real Eastern European is projected, hung with labels and not dying stereotypes. If it were just that, the movie would be bad. But the screenwriters put the now most famous Kazakh in the realities of the American and it is worth saying that the performance is completely unfictional. It is this contrast that makes the picture funny (not funny, let’s be honest) in the very far-fetchedness and not so cheerful in the circumstances of life.
And there seems to be no one to be offended here - Larry offended everyone, from Jews and prostitutes, to feminists and pop stars like Pamela Anderson (how much did she get paid????). This audacity, somewhat exceeds the boundaries of reasonable, not always allowing, in the end, to pay attention to things somewhat subtle. But when you pay attention, you realize that in fact, the promised comedy turned into satire. And the satire isn't exactly pleasant.
The problem is not the film, the problem is people.
I'll put in my five cents about this movie that's had so many copies broken around it. From the film expected a vulgar, but at the same time caustic and deep satire, both on American culture and lifestyle, and on the post-Soviet. The expectations were only partially met.
Let me start with the following:
1) Structure of the plot. It is really built very competently. Situation at home - going to the United States - a journey to the goal - homecoming. This allows you not to lose the thread of the narrative.
(2) Acting by Sacha Baron Cohen. He really put in this role and was quite sincere in it.
3) Music. Fun and cheerful gypsy motifs are immediately remembered and remain in your head.
Now let’s move on to the most important thing – satire. In my view, there are two main problems: the excessive absurdity of many situations and the lack of depth. Yes, some moments (an interview with a humorist, an episode in a reformed church) are well done and the banter on reality feels good; however, moments, such as selling weapons, visiting an antiques store, simply indicate this or that situation, but there is virtually no humor, except for the savage behavior of the protagonist. So it turns out that often the banter in both directions does not come out, because of many moments it just looks vulgar and rather stupid, and satire and banter can not be seen behind them. It seems to me that too short timekeeping played a cruel joke with the film, as a result of which, a large number of themes were indicated, but poorly disclosed.
In any case, in the first place - it's just a film that should never be taken too close to heart, let alone considered as a personal insult.
This film is to some extent a test of perception of the surrounding reality, how much you are ready to perceive satire first of all as satire, and not take it at face value, calmly laugh at yourself and at the absurd or just calmly pass by, realizing that this approach to humor and satire is not for you.
If you are chasing a dream,
Especially for the dream with plastic breasts,
You may not notice the beauty of it.
The one next to you.
(Roughly 77 minutes of the film)
Borat
After these words Borat becomes unbearably nauseous and sad. Those are one hundred percent correct words. A filmmaker who follows the right path will automatically receive only the most flattering feedback from me. I won’t review it, it’s a very specific spectacle, but Cohen is a very brave comrade. How he wasn't killed, I'm amazed.
Deep and clever. It's not about Kazakhstan at all. This is about the United States. Look closely at what Cohen is doing. He puts the openly racist and pervert Borat into the perfect American world. Everyone is so clean, pretty, respects their country, sings hymns and believes in God. When you hit Borat, all the rot starts to come out.
And the nicest person in the U.S. is, uh, my black hooker. She even calls Borat's name right! Yes, unlike all these "sensible" people who advise Borat on how to behave in society. It's not Cohen's middle finger, it's spitting. No one says that Sasha was the first (Harmony Corin spat, Michael Moore with his documentary, etc.), of course.
Cohen, a talented comedian, did so through humor (and amoralism). I'm sorry, I may be too serious, but it's hard for me to call Borat a stupid comedy movie. Yes, and advise to watch to beat. There is much more sad than funny here. Although the scene with Pamela and running with Ken Davitian (no panties!), made you hit yourself on the forehead and smile.
And also, an important detail, many of the scenes are pure improvisation. Cohen's experiment succeeded. Giant fees and popularity (no matter how cool Ali G is). Cohen snatched off several American growths (from the same racism to banal disrespect for women). I have nothing against comedian Cohen, he's funny, but it's still a bit of a pity that many (short-sighted) put this movie alongside the usual obscene comedies.
Like it, go to my house...
P.S.
How can one scold a film where the title song was taken from Kusturica from the great masterpiece “Time of the Gypsies”? I don't understand!
7.5 out of 10
In this age of ultra-political correctness, Borat is blowing like a fresh and refreshing wind, completely skirting all the cultural taboos we build around us. So no one is safe: Borat takes on Jews, blacks, gays, feminists, religious fanatics. The only weapon against a clumsy Borat is a sense of humor. If there is any message from Borat, it is that everyone should take themselves less seriously.
The image of Americans projected in this film ranges from touching to downright frightening. Residents of New York City threaten Borat with physical violence as he approaches them in the subway. Feminists come out on him when they find his views on women intolerant. People in the heart of the country sympathize with him for his hatred of gays and Jews. The owner of a gun shop even helps him choose the best weapon to shoot at the Jewish people. Pouring megatons of cynicism and black humor is Sasha’s goal. However, the film does not provide any significant critical commentary and has equivalent social value, like a donkey. Only a tornado from fearless humor.
The second half of Borat, unlike the first, may be less attractive. It’s hard to say why, as the humor remains invariably brutal and there’s almost exponential stupidity with our character as he’s going to go to California to marry Pamela Anderson. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that the movie is a complete flop by the end. However, he is mind-blowingly surprised by the indescribable scene in the hotel room, one of the craziest scenes I have ever seen. Rest assured that some viewers will watch in terrible silence, while others will literally laugh convulsively. I belong to the last category.
Sasha himself is Jewish and often uses his grandmother’s praise as a defense for his rude and brazen style. This movie is a satire of the highest and deadliest kind, because it doesn’t just exploit subconscious fears and social taboos, it smashes them right into the face of the viewer. As a writer, one should admire Cohen’s ability to create fascinating characters and build entire films around them. Borat is only one of his three famous personalities. Notably, the Americans with whom Borat is speaking either don’t understand what’s going on or actually agree with it. This fictional character comes to life with such energy that it seems that he turns into a real person.
British comedy has long been better at understanding how to handle unpleasant characters. Instead of apologizing for his antics, as American comedies usually do, punishing bad guys at the end, let's just say, the British know how to develop this disgusting character and make it even more interesting without neglecting its original idea. One of Cohen’s designs is that his characters are static, they don’t understand their idiocy, which gives them even more charm.
In general, "Borat" is a crazy exercise in merciless humor that sees no one in front of you. He is quite effective in capturing the ignorance and tolerance of American society and greatly benefits from the performance of Sacha Baron Cohen, who single-handedly elevates this image to classical status. Shameless, entertaining and filled with moments you can’t prevent but will laugh. In Borat, where conscience and shame should be, there is irony and the absence of any boundaries. And as we know, creativity knows no boundaries.
Some amazingly ridiculous and ridiculous movie, filled with the humor of the toilet poshiv. Or more like a sewer. Badness is not in the ethical aspect, but in the aesthetic. The humor here is ugly, low-grade, often it is just disgusting, and these shortcomings are not compensated by anything. After all, Howard Stern in “Body Parts” in terms of humor went into all serious and fell below the plinth, but he is the smartest, most eloquent and charismatic person who weaves speech so that it is interesting to listen to what he says – that is the difference between Stern and Sasha Baron Cohen. “Borat” can be compared with sewer “masterpieces” like “Best Movie 2” and others like it. It is impossible to compare with titans like Monty Python.
From the "Body Parts", apparently, the following motive was taken: the main character liked the sexy actress, shortly after which words are heard that the hero's wife, they say, died. In Body Parts it was porn actress Jenna Jameson, in Borat it was Pamela Anderson.
The idea is that Kazakhstani villager Borat travels to the United States (U.S. & A., as he likes to say) to explore the country for the great good of Kazakhstan. In the United States, he communicates with intellectuals, rednecks, gays, politicians, television workers, prostitutes and other citizens. Almost immediately after arriving, he sees Pamela Anderson on TV and decides to access her.
Oddly enough, against the background of dull Petrosianism, the image of Borat turned out to be surprisingly capacious, he is a sad, big child of nature who travels across America to his beloved Pamela, along the way creates various political incorrectness, demonstrates his otherness, the absence of a brain, and in general the very simplicity that is worse than stealing. Everything is supposedly humorous or, rather, humorous, but, again, usually at the level of a drunken Petrosyan without a piece of paper. All this stupidity-variety, of course, is caricatured, but there is something sincere in it... some, so to speak, raw truth of the subject.
The film redeems little: a short duration (an hour twenty) and a bold kick-back to Pamela Anderson.

Many were offended that Borat represented Kazakhstan. The authors wanted a little-known country in Europe, let alone in America, preferably not from the European part, preferably with a non-Christian religion, preferably with a dictator sitting in power for a third of his life. Kazakhstan has all this. And nobody cares what it is. The main thing is that the country is real and little known in the West. If in some “Commando” and “Die Hard 2” for these purposes invented the country of Valverde, the authors of “Borat” decided to strike in “realism”. Instead of Kazakhstan, there could be another “stan”, and indeed any CIS country. Even Russia, the meaning would not change at all, only it would bomb the vassal patriots of Russia. That's what bombed the Kazakhs. Except for those who are adequate. The only thing that is unclear is that if you were filming a Kazakh village in Romania, why not make Romania the country of Borat? About Romania in Europe, not everyone knows what is there and how, and even more so in America.
As for humor, I like it. Yeah, judging by the negative reviews, I'm the underdeveloped beast that can make you laugh. The film has a lot of humor in terms of deceiving expectations, and also just cheers the reaction of people to the provocations of Borat.
But what distinguishes Borat from, say, another similarly provocative Sacha Baron Cohen hero, Bruno? Borat, to some extent, is a hitch. That is, a person of another culture, other morals, another socio-cultural world, falls into the Western world. Yes, all these mores are invented and do not exist in reality, at least in Kazakhstan, but people around him do not know about it. And it turns out that he provokes not on purpose, not from a bad upbringing, not out of a desire to shock, like Bruno, but simply because he is. Not like a representative of the Western, civilized world. Borat is simpler and more ridiculous from this than the narcissistic and repulsive Bruno.
In the end, what I can say is that Cohen and his Borat skillfully troll people, skillfully and boldly provoke, skillfully cover the stage with provocative jokes. The reaction of the little man who, out of diplomatic motives, tasted Borat's proposed cheese is perhaps one of the funniest moments. But it's a matter of taste. I have, as the dissatisfied viewers have already said, no taste at all if I liked such a film. I liked it, it was pretty cool.
Here we go. I already said in the title that the film is squalid, low and insignificant. It really is. I don't know how a man in his right mind and sound mind can like this ' creation'. This is an open humiliation of Kazakhstan and the people of Kazakhstan. I do not understand what right a man who is not part of any one nation has to humiliate other nations and countries. In general, the lyrical introduction I finished, it's time to talk about why this film is so bad.
- First of all, humor. By genre, this sub-film is a comedy, but personally I did not see anything funny in it. Personally, everything about it disgusts me, I can’t understand the people who liked it and were funny. Jokes about shit, Jews, backward Kazakhs, family in this film I see only offensive. Personally, these jokes liked only cattle, no more I can not understand such people.
- Second, an unrealized idea. The film was designed to make fun of America. I couldn't make that movie. I only found out after reading it somewhere. After watching, I just realized that Kazakhstan is the most backward country, where a village is called a city, where subhumans live, who do not have human moral norms of culture, values, etc. Douse 'shit' Kazakhstan Sasha succeeded, but about America, I did not notice anything bad, at least in comparison with the shown Kazakhstan.
- Third, meaning. I did not understand why it was necessary to shoot ' it' what is the purpose of this ' creation' But since the genre of this film is a comedy, it should have cheered me up, charged me with positive, laughed, but led only to terrible indignation and disappointment. I really regretted watching this movie. I just wanted to forget it and take back an hour of my life and spend it on something more worthwhile.
That's it. I hope that after reading this review you will not watch this and make my mistake. If you have a free hour of time, go to the gym, walk in the park, meet with old friends, but in no case do not dare to watch this copy of the cinema, because this benefit is much more.

What laudatory praises did not sing to the British actor and screenwriter of this immoral thinness Sacha Baron Cohen, after the publication of such a scandalous and shocking, I fear this word, “comedy”. After looking to the end of all the footage about the alleged Kazakh journalist named Borat Sagdiyev (Cohen), who looked more like an Iraqi Kurd or a Georgian Adjarian, and who goes to the United States to raise the culture of the Kazakh people in order to learn this very culture, although if you are an imbicile of the last level, then nothing will help you.
There is a positive in the film, and this, nothing less, the idea of production, where most of the secondary characters really did not know that the mustachioed dodik next to them will carry such cosmic heresy, and even with a vomiting accent, that at some point it was interesting to watch the reaction of this or that individual, in all the rest there was a wild bayda and boring nonsense. This format of humor is appreciated by the adolescent audience, whose place is on some YouTube, and not in the cinema library of works of art. It is clear that Mr. Baron decided to make a sharp mockery, either over really Kazakhstan, passing off some Romanian gypsies as the Turkic people, or over the Americans themselves, making a politically sharp speech at the opening of some rodeo festival. And everything would have been fine and harmless until the most disgusting episode in some hotel, where Borat and his best friend Azamat (Davityan) tumbled naked all over the room, poking their dodges into the camera lenses and yelling some incoherent letters - this scene, which is the standard of disgust and nausea, became the last straw, bringing my patience to the boiling point ...
Verdicting Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, I would like to note Sasha Baron Cohen, who created a really memorable hoopaus and who, having passed the test of time, found a certain cult around his hero. But I want to wish from the bottom of my heart: if you are already doing it vile, then at least let it be vile-beautiful than vile-terrible.
That's it!
The film “Borat” or “Borat: Cultural Studies in favor of the glorious state of Kazakhstan” is a comedy film – a pseudo-documentary film directed by Larry Charles with the participation of the famous British comedian Sasha Baron Cohen, who is both the author of the script and one of the producers of this “documentary film”.
Borat Sagdiyev left his native Kazakhstan and went with his producer Azamat Bagatov (speaking in the film in Armenian) by order of the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan to shoot a documentary - a report on the state of Asashai. Sagdiyev (he speaks Hebrew in the film) meets different people during his trip to the United States. During his stay at the hotel, Borat Sagdiev watches an episode of the television series Malibu Rescue and immediately falls in love with the character (CJ Parker) Pamela Anderson. Soon Borat receives the news of the death of his wife and, having received his freedom, travels with his producer Bagatov on a collapsed minibus to Los Angeles to Pamela in order to marry her and deprive her of her virginity, i.e. to get her Vaginai.
Kazakhstan was chosen as the least known country for the American layman, whom Borat laughed at so much. There is nothing Kazakh at all in this film (several characters who allegedly speak Kazakh actually speak Romanian), and to depict the poverty of the people of the Republic of Kazakhstan (although, according to economic data, Kazakhstan ranked 65 or 68 in 2006, i.e. was above Russia), the film’s director Charles chose Romania and Romanian Roma mixed with American students. The main meaning of the film is a terrible laugh at American philistines who turned out to be dumber than real Kazakhs. Half of the heroes of the film played themselves and in full seriousness explained these or other situations to the ignorant Sagdiev – for example, in full seriousness, the seller of the gun store explains to Kazakh Sagdiev that in order to kill all the Jews it is necessary to buy a 9-caliber gun; American residents at the cowboy show in full serious applaud the wishes of Borat Sagdiev to the US President D. Bush to kill all the citizens of Iraq; in full seriousness, American tourists explain to Sagdiev that Pamela Anderson has long been a virgin (why, why the violation of the traditions of the Caucasus is shown only after the wedding). Borat Sagdiyev, at the same time, can describe incorrectly American reality! The political component was added specifically to increase the film's box office cathedrals ($261,572,744 with a budget of $18 million).
The film “Borat” also showed the main problem of modern American society – how far the government and its ideology from the common people!
Sasha Baron Cohen's favorite character - Borat, his appearance is very similar to the no less famous character performed by Jason Lee - Erl Hickey from the popular TV series My name is Earl. The difference in the characters will highlight one, but what: if Earl was created in order to change this world for the better, to sow a seed of good and love in it, and all the comedic moments, which were not few, were absolutely harmless jokes against both the States and their residents, their vices, then Borat is a shame and shame to all Hollywood, as well as the entire team working on the film. The fact that the film is lowered below the underworld is not the poorest and worst state like Kazakhstan - half the trouble, but what Baron Cohen calls humor.
A typical American example of venerable humor is to show a bare fifth point in the frame, it probably says a lot. Zadornov still not in vain drew attention to the fact that if a person has any problems, the Russian says: “save our souls”, the American’s answer: “save our ...” You can see this part of the body and is responsible for the mental activity of most (of course, not all) representatives of the star-striped flag, if the film with such a disgusting taste pays off more than at the box office. More than that, I am sure it is the young people with gum in their mouth, jubilant with wild laughter from each finger shown in the frame and became the main striking force of Borat at the box office.
I am not a supporter of “Anschlag” humor, although there is rarely, but you can find something good, but how can you describe humor in a film where it, in fact, is not! According to my calculations, 5 jokes for the whole film were successful: breaking dishes in an antique shop, mutual friendliness of gays, Pamela Andreson in a bag, interviews live, surrender to the rights. In everything else (and I want to note, “as if jokes” there are very, very many) lovers of male genitalia, gender minorities, nationalists, anti-Semites, babtistas and, in principle, not very distant people for whom the room with the sign “WC” is a fabulous kingdom will find a suitable in the film.
As for Kazakhstan, Cohen should be given credit for omitting the country and its people. Cohen is unlikely to have anything against Kazakhstan itself, but the constant blackwashing of this Asian country, its president and people has probably destroyed the image of this state for ordinary Americans who have any idea of this country. The final portrait of Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan against the background of the Kazakh flag, could well be turned into an international scandal. But, whether acting wisely and silently looking at this insignificance, and another film can not be called, or hoping for black, but still advertising, the authorities did not address any scandals to the filmmakers. In those moments, when they showed the Kazakh village, he caught himself thinking that he did not notice any external signs of the Kazakhs there. After looking through the credits to the last second, I understood everything when I saw the word Romania – a favorite place to shoot cheap American miscarriages.
Cohen, like Adam Sandler, clearly does not breathe smoothly toward the Jews. That the one who is other, in every way, is omitted and ridiculed by this people. And that's being Jews themselves. And they do it intentionally and in all low glory. The film is full of disgusting scenes and jokes about it. The main secret of Cohen's jokes is to say and make fun of everything you see in front of you. To do this, you will need to enter into the image of a hard-headed, one-stroke, primitive, near-minded person who says everything he thinks without any second thought, and even if these thoughts are immoral and terrible.
Many moments from the trailer of the film did not make it to the final version of the film. In order not to turn the viewer away from the screen initially, Borat uses a clip style of shooting with rapid changes of frames. This fact was used for its intended purpose and place. "Borat" is not humor, and even humor is not black. This is a cheap immoral fake, which, unfortunately, will be relevant and will become the prototype of new similar absurdities. It teaches nothing, it does not relax, while watching you do not rest, but constantly leans towards the idea of turning it all off or watching to the end.
Before the start of the viewing, I sincerely believed that Borat, despite the ambiguous reaction of the audience to my address, will find understanding on my part. Oh, I was wrong! But the most remarkable is another, Borat is awarded the Golden Globe, many call it a masterpiece, Eurovision wins Conchita Wurst, and same-sex relationships are legalized more and more.
We have a great history and culture, but not the best cinema. However, despite all the film misses, we do not allow ourselves such a thing, although by the efforts of individual "Production" and "Movies" we are walking a slow but confident road towards the creation of the same "Borats".

A sensational, scandalous film that became a cult comedy.
"What does he allow himself to do," our Kazakh friends will say when watching this film. But it's actually easier. The creators of the film, which already had a not very pleasant reputation, at least among most film lovers, knew perfectly well what awaited them. The film in no way emphasizes the stereotype of the Kazakhs, this is just another, extraordinary comedy about a trip to America.
Young journalist Borat Sagdiyev, on the orders of the Ministry of Information of Kazakhstan, goes to the United States to learn the cultural values of Americans. He is not traveling alone, but with a certain Azamat Richov. Together, they must prepare a report on the states. In a foreign country, absolutely unbridled for them, they face many troubles, get into hopeless situations in which they are carried away in an incomprehensible way.
Larry Charles is Sasha Cohen’s main collaborator. It was after this film that their collaboration became integral. What I want to talk about is Sasha Cohen. As one of the hosts of the popular show Saturday Eternal Live, he already had a ready-made character. And now, having finally written the script, denoting everything as necessary, he also stars “Borat”, which he also produces. Sasha Cohen, unlike other comedians, is less modest in his roles. His actions are so absurd and incomprehensible that when watching you can burst with laughter. Sasha’s talent is so colossal that when you watch the previous film with his participation, and then “Borat”, you will never guess that they are played by one actor. He may have become a negative comedian in society, but comedy lovers, at least most of them, appreciate and respect him.
“Borat” is a scandalous, extraordinary, absurd, goofy comedy that has become a cult in many countries. This film will be discussed many times, and every time it will be criticized. But this is one of the funniest comedies in the history of their existence.
Unpolitically correct satire, reckless mocumentary, caustic banter, etc. The pseudo-documentary masterpiece of Sacha Baron Cohen can be called whatever you want, there is a traditional toilet-poor American humor and many other unsightly things for adults, but with all this in “Borat” there is a highlight that is very rarely found in other films – a chic satire on American reality, and all this is not invented by screenwriters, as in South Park, for example, but is the result of the improvisation of Sacha Baron Cohen. "Borat" is undoubtedly a parody of American stereotypes, stamps, tropes. Even the horribly nasty scene of Borat's naked fight with his producer Azamat is a parody of the vulgarity and the narrow-minded toilet humor of American comedies.
It's amazing how he did it! Shocking the interlocutors, Borat tears off the veil of political correctness and they begin to express their real thoughts. Thanks to Borat, we see among Americans both sexism and chauvinism, and even the anti-Semitism they so conceal.
It doesn’t matter if Borat is from Kazakhstan or any other country. Instead of Kazakhstan, any third-world country would suit, Kazakhstan in this film is just a hodgepodge of American stereotypes about undeveloped countries. It is not Kazakhs, Gypsies, Uzbeks or Jews who are ridiculed in Borat, but primarily the Americans themselves, their attitude towards other nations and cultures.
I was amazed at the way Sacha Baron Cohen plays in this movie, which is not a game. He just gets used to the role, becomes a Borat! Undoubtedly, Cohen is one of the most talented actors I know. In his track record not only Kazakh journalist Borat, but also Austrian homosexual Bruno, London MC Ali G, dictator of the eastern country General-Admiral Alladin. Each image is thought out very carefully, Sacha Baron Cohen simply does not know when he transforms into one of his characters. I’ve watched Borat several times and each time Borat gives me a caustic satire and mind-blowing dialogue. Bravo! Zenkou!
It’s funny to poke in positive reviews, they say, “If the film touched you, then it’s about you.”
It's not about us! We saw elevators and toilets, we do not exchange French kisses with blood relatives or do other ugly things, seeing which, I felt my right eyelid begin to twitch.
If it's not about us, why bother?
Because Kazakhstan is a peaceful and imperceptible country, trying to build its image, they know so little about us. And now we are “known” in Europe and the United States exactly as it was shown. Thank you, we appreciated the humor. Do not tell me here about the subtle irony of the “rotten West” and our narrow-mindedness as “hurt Kazakhs”. Few people in the same America and other countries of rotten capitalism will look so deep here as subtle connoisseurs of cinema.
You, all those who are sitting here with a monocle and wearing white gloves, in the same situation, if you find yourself from an imperceptible country, which is so exposed here ... I would laugh for a long time watching you hysterically foaming at your mouth, insulted and outraged.
But you will not get into our situation, of course. Maximum, the bear to his hand on the balalaika will play the sketch "Kazakhs were offended, they have no sense of humor." Sorry.
P.S. Most likely, my “review” will not pass censorship as politically incorrect. The issue of political correctness only begins to concern us when it affects our own country. And foreign countries hurt ... well, who cares?
Talking about this film, it is difficult to stay on the edge and not offend the inhabitants of glorious Kazakhstan. Indeed, the English comedian Sasha Baron Cohen has so traversed their “traditions and customs” that the mention of Borat in the presence of a Kazakh or a Jew can still bring the latter to a hysterical reaction. But man, that's ridiculous! The film is really cool and an hour and a half of laughter tolerant in matters of nationality viewer provided. Of course, because the degree of insanity in some scenes jumps to the highest bar, managing to remain a harsh satire and not sliding into black. Of course, you can forget about political correctness right away, and there are enough vulgarities, but the film raises the mood perfectly, tested by repeated viewing in the company of friends.
The plot is as follows: Kazakh reporter Borat Sagdiyev is sent to the United States to learn and shoot a report. Upon arrival, he accidentally stumbles upon the series "Bloodguards" and falls in love with Pamela Anderson. Moreover, he sees no other way than to cross the country and make Pamela a proposal of a hand and a heart. This trip should change his life and be remembered by everyone for a long time.
It is noteworthy that almost all the actors from this film did not even suspect that they were filming. These are ordinary people who, by the will of fate, were on the way of a TV presenter from Kazakhstan, but he knows how to tear the template for an unprepared interlocutor. The film immediately entered the list of my favorites, phrases from it were stolen for quotes by me and friends.
I can’t say that Sacha Baron Cohen is one of my favorite comedians. But I like his style - hard satire on the verge of foul. In addition, it absolutely does not recognize these incomprehensible boundaries of tolerance, national consciousness and other nonsense. For, as Cohen does, no one shoots for a long time, the genre of satire is dying out as fact, for one cannot be a satirist without stepping on all calluses at once. And Sasha is not just advancing, he is trampling with the grace of an elephant in the china shop.
Now for humor. It is not clear why everyone took that the humor here is American, "American Pie" woven. The humor here is very British, without any second and third senses, in the classic style of Mel Brooks and the Monty Python band. In addition to Cohen, in this genre is now extremely rare except that Will Fairrell. That's it. Maybe that's why the degree of madness in the picture is slightly off the scale. It’s all for everyone, so to speak.
And the Kazakhs were just unlucky. I strongly suspect that the place of residence of Borat was chosen on the principle of “where the finger falls”. As for offense, yes, maybe. Zadornov was stripped of entry for less. But to condemn on behalf of the government is too much. This suggests that it struck a living, and the work of art began to be treated as reality.
“Borat” looked up to me for a long time when I read reviews of “The Dictator” and “Bruno”, and so I decided to watch. I won’t say that I was delighted with this creation, but there were moments from which I laughed in my voice.
Judging by the Dictator and Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen likes to show acute social and political problems. That’s great, of course, but it’s best not to get in the way of these toilet humor problems. Some scenes are so repulsive that you want to close the player. I don’t know what it was like for people who were in the cinema.
Cohen made a provocative film, but nobody wants him. Those he wanted to provoke were deeply indifferent to his attempts to show something out there. He may be greatly offended by his creations. I doubt that Kazakhs or Jews will laugh at their shortcomings and problems.
However, 7 points is not 5. I liked Cohen's game. Borat turned out so sincere and alive, this character I remember for a long time.
And so, this comedy is only for oh-oh-very sarcastically funny people and fans of Sacha Baron Cohen.

On complacency, imperfections and the problem of the addressee
I'm sorry, but who needs your satire? According to the law of the genre, the addressee should shudder in the convulsions of bitterness from understanding the sounding author's speech, from unconditional recognition in the crooked mirror of himself. Horror and fear at this moment should turn the mind, shake its foundation, destroy all patterns. Obviously, we do not need such satire: we have not learned anything new about the helplessness of American values, and we do not need it. But most of the audience in the States to understand it does not deign to rise. There's the problem of low intelligence, there's irresistible geographic ignorance, and so on and so forth. But how does this movie solve them? No way. And if problems are knocked on the brain, and no exits are offered, then there is a subconscious irritation, which is experienced by most authors of negative reviews. The American viewer needs to be educated, explained, shown, rid of blinders, well, at least from the simplest. In general, the film resembles a cruel, cynical mockery of their own unfortunate compatriots by the type: come on, enjoy your innocence, wretched degenerates.
That is what spoils the impression of the film as a whole, it already denies the value, or puts the work at a low level. Dear intellectuals, why do you not notice such simple things?
He jumped out of a snuffbox. Although at the end of the summer of 2006, photos of a lanky hairy mustache with light green thongs stretched over his shoulders appeared on the Internet, posing on the beach in an embrace with sexy beauties - "rescuers from Malibu". So began the advertising campaign of the film, which in just a couple of weeks of release managed to provoke a series of protests, millions of lawsuits and accusations of all mortal sins – from racism to idiocy.
In early November 2006, for two weekends, an American box-office led a film with a strangely stupid title. Thus began the triumphant conquest of America by British TV showman Sacha Baron Cohen. It started despite the fact that 20th Century Fox, which financed Borat’s trip from Kazakhstan to America, was afraid of what he did, and at the last moment almost three times reduced the number of starting copies. However, this did not prevent Borat from easily bypassing the hyped brand Santa Claus 3.
It seems that Hollywood bosses did not take into account the network popularity of the TV journalist from Kazakhstan, because it was on the Internet that his potential viewer warmed up for several months. Moreover, the network not only announced the upcoming premiere, but also regularly posted messages of Borat himself about the successes of his “home country” in terms of democratization (he proudly reported that in this progressive state women have been allowed to ride inside the bus since 2003, and gypsies are hunted less and less), as well as detailed information about him.
It turns out that from early childhood, Borat did not have a relationship with his mother, and she repeatedly told him that she would be happy if she was raped by someone other than his father Boltok, nicknamed the Rapist. That the younger brother Bilo is so obsessed with pornography that he has to be kept in a cage, and the beloved sister is ranked fourth in the ranking of the most popular prostitutes in the country. And his beloved wife Ptulyakbay tragically died at the hands of a hunter who mistook her for a bear.
In the film, Borat takes from his seat to the quarry: without falling into the parochial patriotism, he quickly introduces the audience to his native Kuzek and soon on the instructions of the Minister of Education goes to America to glorify his homeland - beloved Kazakhstan! However, already there, seeing Pamela Anderson on TV, he lights up the idea of fix - be sure to marry her - and makes a trip across the country on an ice cream van - from New York to Los Angeles. On the way, in broken English, he praises his homeland and lowers America far below the level of his own genitals, using mainly scruffy jokes of humor and monstrous innuendo.
The film “production of Kazakhstani television” will show you how Borat will mistakenly take an elevator booth for a hotel room, wash himself from the toilet, go down a big lawn next to the crowded sidewalk and there, in the center of New York (!), masturbate at the crossroads, visit the gay festival, along the way, perform at the rodeo with a welcoming word to the friendly American people, then sing an ode to the movie motif, and there, in the form of an important film (!), but one of the producer does not start in the wildest of this film, but in the form of this one who is still in the hymakes of this film, but in the most ridiculous scene.
In the person of Borat, the cinema was enriched by a hero who knows how to arrange total provocations. Cohen (and I would like to say with innate organicity) tries on the guise of an imbecil reporter and, hiding behind foreign origins from the eastern country, gives those with whom he communicates a clearly pleasant sense of intellectual and cultural superiority.
But try to get out in Texas before the rodeo in the arena of a huge stadium filled with patriotic rangers, and like Borat, publicly wish President Bush to drink the blood of all Iraqi women and children, and then sing their national anthem with the words "America is Gay Country!" What will be left of you after that?
With the excitement of an unafraid idiot, Borat throws himself into the epicenter of events, even those where very aggressive personalities may be located. Therefore, every time he runs the risk of running into trouble, or, even worse, to get in the face (and he gets, however, not what you think). The real people he interacts with tend to see him as a savage child who came from a country "with great cultural differences," and for this very reason they turn a blind eye to the moronic antics of simple-minded Mowgli.
But their indulgence lasts only until they see themselves on screen. And having learned that carefully conspiratorial pranks under the guise of a foreign crazy were actually arranged by a dude from the British TV and with a Cambridge logo in the diploma of a historian, they prefer to get satisfaction with money.
Some may argue that the Sasha Cohen phenomenon is not new. He just inherits the forgotten traditions of his countrymen - the comedians of the group "Monty Python", who at the end of the 1960s also started with jokes in a television show, and then moved to the big screen. However, "Gilliam and Company" was engaged exclusively in parody, not mixing non-fiction and staged films, which brilliantly demonstrates their energetic young tribesman, constantly combining natural shooting with staged. And in these sparkling transitions from one element to another, perhaps, is the main charming feature of “Borat”.
Having become the most famous foreign comedian in America in just two weeks, Cohen has experienced a rapid rise to fame that most cannot achieve with decades of hard work. Now numerous lawsuits work for its popularity for free. So the residents of the Romanian village of Glod, represented by Cohen under the guise of the Kazakh (!) town of Kuzek, after the multimillion income of the tape expressed their total discontent with the comedian, who assured them that it would be a picture of the difficulties of life of Romanian peasants who only for 5 dollars agreed to star in the images of illiterate Kazakhs - rapists and prostitutes. After the release of the tape, the residents of Glod began to accuse Cohen of slander and bullying. Following suits for fraudulent involvement in the filming and presentation in unseemly images began to come almost from all participants of the project.
The premiere of “Borat” in Russia was scheduled for November 30, but just the day before the name suddenly disappeared from the repertoire plan of the company “Gemini-film”, as the film was denied distribution permission to demonstrate in theaters. The State Register said: “The film contains material that some viewers may find derogatory about certain nationalities and religions.” This was the first precedent in Russia in many years. Previously, only pornographic tapes and then very few were awarded a similar fate.
We watched Borat by Larry Charles a long time ago, although it is probably more correct to say that this is a film by Sacha Baron Cohen, since this is his idea and his script.
The film, shot as a documentary, tells about the journey of a Kazakh journalist to America.
Scandalously and surprisingly aptly denounces the vices of two modern diametrically opposed societies: the backward Kazakh and the advanced American. Through the prism of each other, these two worlds look disgusting: one disgustingly rustic, dirty, uncultured, the second - excessively stiff, cold, racist, depraved and ... in the end, also uncultured.
It should be noted that this picture is not for the faint of heart. The toilet humor goes off the scale almost from the very first scene, there are several rather rude and offensive scenes. However, despite the documentary, the director manages to very subtly observe the line, thanks to which it becomes clear that this is still a comedy, although rude and imbued with bitter irony, but still a comedy.
And bursts of laughter will really shake the walls of your home when you watch this movie.
Grind with a lot of beer, Druzia, left your brains in the refrigerator - then Nraitsa!
Reading before viewing rather polar reviews, it was, at least, something catchy film: a provocation, veiled under stupidity subtext, at least interesting stupidity (something like “Dumb and dumber”). The film showed even mediocre stupidity and nonsense. Find any coherent subtext, allusions or parallels - can only be a person with a rich imagination or youthful maximalism multiplied by the conflict perception of the world around him. Something like an interesting political satire flashed through the rodeo episode, but without much hint of breakthrough or novelty.
Perhaps the only original nuance that did not allow you to press the cross in the upper right corner of the monitor ahead of time is that most of the footage is shooting unsuspecting people (at least – so stated). This did not give this creation special glasses, but at least new. Maybe even a road-movie shell: an almost win-win option that allows you to radically change the twists of the scenario. Well, probably - a nano-thin layer of jokes, smeared throughout the script - at least not allowing him to die altogether, but keeping him in a stable coma. In fact, that's all.
Along with the lack of an interesting script, dialogue and other things, I didn’t see the point in the film: why was it all filmed? There is no special provocation here; to show the stupidity of Americans (as indicated in some reviews) - no - Americans are shown to be quite cute, adequate, well-bred people; to open the world to an unknown cultural layer in the form of "Aborigines" Kazakhstan? The supposedly real aspects of culture described are nonsense. To just take it as English humor, like exquisite banter and all that? Not much of a roll.
If you put some jokes on the whole canvas, clean up dirt and nonsense, maybe something would work out. I went to an antique store and broke the dishes, so what? That's it. What's the point, the conflict, the interest? Although it doesn’t, there was a kind of joke – what to give if there is not enough money. This is a joke, of course.
My patience ended in a naked battle at the hotel. That was too much. Almost at the end of the movie. Next, he flipped to check the box: “viewed.”
After the film, there was a slightly unpleasant taste. But not for long. 40 seconds. Too gray for long impressions.
