I approached this film calmly. I didn’t remember its contents and I might have glimpsed it once, but it didn’t really matter. I can say at the end that although I did not expect anything, but was very disappointed, below I will try to explain why.
Problems start from the beginning. Let the poster depicts Timon and Pumba, but the title is the king of the lion, which is very poorly considered with reality. If you look, this story is about this couple, and the rest is somewhere in the background. I have nothing wrong with them in general and I like these characters in general, but there are nuances. First, this hero is dedicated to a separate series, in which they squeezed all the juices. Secondly, earlier in the first and second parts, these characters were secondary and performed their role when they are in the foreground. And they can't handle the word at all. Most of the time, they just chat, joke, and break the fourth wall. The latter by the way is not bad, but some moments were not appropriate and seemed to just fill the timekeeping.
But more importantly and unforgivably, the painting mocks the original. I would still agree to see just the story of Timon and Pumba before or after the events of the first part, but here they go parallel. And worst of all, they change the meaning of the main scenes that we love. Somewhere they laugh, and some take on too much when it's ridiculous. In general, I am not interested in seeing the story from the perspective of these characters, I have already seen the true work. In my opinion, this is just some kind of malpractice and abuse.
Of the bright spots, I can only note the original soundtracks from the first tapes, as well as a good picture. In these aspects, the creators did not fail. But nothing else comes to mind about this work.
Over. This work can disappoint fans of the original tape. The creators decided to make the main characters of those who were not and turn everything into a comedy. However, all this led to a deplorable result. Therefore, I can not recommend the tape to view.
Forget your worries and keep your tail in your tail!
Akuna Matata is the motto of all true fans of Timon and Pumba. In honor of the decade of the original “The Lion King”, Disney wizards of the animated craft gave loyal fans of the lion Pride a great opportunity to once again be in the magical world of the Eternal Circle of Life.
This picture soulfully reproduces the events of the first part, showing them secondary against the background of the history of the formation of friendship between the unceremonious meerkat Timon and the good-natured warthog Pumba. Their duet is perhaps the best comedy animated tandem in the history of this genre, surprising the unparalleled combination of two seemingly dissimilar characters who internally experience the same desire to find the best place in the world where you can lead a frivolous lifestyle all day round, without much worrying or denying yourself any of the joys of life.
The humorous atmosphere of the cartoon absorbed all the best that was in the famous series about the adventures of two friends, which lasted for five seasons. And it is worth saying that the picture in question seems to have got rid of the most reckless components of that TV project, exclusively polishing the boundaries of the anecdotal "stoeb".
As a result, “The Lion King: Akuna Matata” is a stunning look at the unsurpassed multimaster, revealing from an interesting angle its events, forming an independent plot, accurately demonstrating the birth of a great friendship of unique secondary heroes.
It so happened that very often in cartoons there is a secondary character-comedian, who thanks to his jokes sometimes becomes more popular than the main character of the cartoon. For example, after the "Ice Age" the most popular character was not someone from the trio of the main characters, but the "Rite Squirrel Scrat". After "Madagascar", penguins. After "Shrek", Donkey. After "Three Bogatyrs", Julius' horse. And after "The Lion King" such characters were the duet of the eternally dissatisfied and bombastic meerkat Timon and the cheerful but flatulent, warthog boar Pumba.
And I must admit, this fame is deserved. Timon and Pumba were indeed hilarious, harrowing characters who diluted the narrative well. They even made a separate animated series in 1995-1999. That's funny. But this was not enough, and in 2004 they also made a separate part – “The Lion King 3: Hakun Matata”. This cartoon is an unusual experiment, it is not a sequel or prequel to The Lion King. We are told what Timon and Pumba did in parallel with the plot of “The Lion King” and how they unwittingly influenced the events of the cartoon. What are the impressions of this experiment? The cartoon is very good. It is fun, interesting, fun and expands the story.
Funny. The main humor of the cartoon is that Timon and Pumba watch “The Lion King” in the cinema and at the same time their own cartoon and comment on all this, regularly pausing the tape or rewinding. And it's really funny how this couple breaks the fourth wall. And that's 12 years before Deadpool! By the way, it is worth saying that the very idea of the plot is very funny. The creators were good at not milking the next sequel, but decided to innovate. I was especially surprised when I learned that the concept of this cartoon was not just invented, but taken from the play of the spin-off Hamlet.
Interesting. You watch the whole movie without stopping from beginning to end. This is a feature of the Lion King franchise, it does not have a single bad cartoon. The interest of the cartoon is provided due to the fun adventures in which our couple gets and how they will get out. For example, it turns out that Timon broke the tower of beasts during the dance of Simba and Nala; Timon and Pumba saw the song of the Scar; found antelope in the gorge. One point I really found controversial when it turns out that the beasts bowed to Simba not because of greatness, but because of the fart of someone. Funny of course, but I don’t know, somehow devalues such a great scene.
Fun. There's a lot to say about jokes. I loved the moment they raised and nursed little Simba. Which, by the way, looks realistic, because in the original Simba just grew up, and then it turns out that he was a child who needed an eye and an eye. Three hyenas are still fun. As well as the endless adventures of the main characters in search of “Beyond what you see”.
Expanding the story. That's the big plus. While Timon and Pumba indirectly influence the events of the original, we are shown their separate history and characters. For example, we find out that Timon originally lived in the meerkat tribe, but he did not like their way of life - constantly building burrows to protect against hyenas and he is looking for a better life. The ending in this regard is very good, because it shows the brave and not selfish character of Timon, and at the same time shows where all the hyenas from the original went.
It's embarrassing, though, that Pumba has no background. He just shows up and that's all. Well, he's got a story that they don't like him because of the smell, but Timon's background is kind of petty. By the way, in one of the series of the animated series, the story of Timon and Pumba’s acquaintance was also shown and there they met under several other circumstances. And yet, why did Timon not recognize Rafiki in the original, if he knows him here?
But it's nothing. The main thing is that with the parallel actions of the Lion King, this cartoon can not be called parasitism. He shows us the history of the friendship of the two. What they did before Simba and after Simba left. Good morals also rise – what is the value of a paradise without friends?
Conclusion. Although Disney sequels have been criticized for being cheap and commercially interesting, I never thought so. Among such “immediate-on-video” sequels were their worthy samples of “i” (in addition, against the background of modern frame-by-frame remakes, these sequels are generally perceived as masterpieces). In particular, I think the sequels of The Lion King are the best. "Timon and Pumba" is a great example of deconstruction. We are perfectly shown the extended story of Timon and Pumba, who in the original were just single, secondary characters. Here we will see their friendship and rubbish, and also learn how certain events happened.

Perhaps everyone knows the sad situation with Russian films at the beginning of the third millennium - our sequels and remakes are completely unworthy of Soviet originals. In the US, however, the situation is almost no different from ours. The only difference is that there are low-grade additions released intentionally. As an example, we can recall "A very scary movie", as well as the third part of "The Lion King".
The original Lion King was one of my childhood favorite cartoons, but as I grow up, I don’t feel so excited about it anymore. It's a really good cartoon, but with its flaws. And what do we see in the third part, which is part prequel, part midquel? This cartoon is a dirty mockery of the classic original, a look at events from Timon and Pumba, who turn out to be those scumbags. I remember how they even broadcast a special series on Russian TV, and there Timon showed himself from the worst side. In this feature, the trend is the same - Timon together with the red (probably from shame!) warthog Pumba in every possible way builds the machinations of Simbe from the years of his childhood to his youth.
We see familiar events, but on the other hand dark and repulsive. And this is not about the Scar with his company of hyenas, but about those who in the human world are called commoners. Even Tolkien in the appendix to the “Lord of the Rings” wrote that the orcs he invented are an allusion to some people that caught his eye in real life. Timon and Pumba in The Lion King 3 are the same allusion, vile and, most importantly, completely unnecessary. I have no doubt that for true fans of the first part, the third was a real stone thrown into the past childhood.
Do you want to know what makes ungulates kneel, living pyramids fall, and lions survive? Timon and Pumba are involved, it turns out! It may sound interesting, but in fact it turns out something completely unnecessary. I'm just happy that the third part didn't catch my eye as a kid.
The Lion King 3 is one of the best Disney sequels, if not the best. It's just an incredibly funny and funny cartoon. In the second part, the plot was simply sucked out of the finger - one villain (a villain more precisely) wants to avenge the Scar... And here's something new... You'll come back to that. I highly recommend watching this cartoon - certainly you will have a good time, I guarantee.
Pluses:
- Animation. In the second part it was much worse than in the first. It's exactly like the first one. Maybe even a little better... This is because the story is parallel to the first part.
- Plot. I’ve heard a lot of people say he’s just not here, he’s crazy. This isn't the first part! This is a real comedy, and great. In general, the plot is as follows: Timon and Pumba are the main characters, they sit in the cinema (sounds really stupid, but it looks quite normal) and watch everything that happened in the first part. And then different things happen, the most important thing is the story of how Timon and Pumba met. The plot of “The Lion King 3” can not be described in words, you just need to see it.
- Humor. In the second part, he was simply absent, Timon and Pumba were there at all as if not in themselves, but here I consider humor the main plus. Sometimes you just laugh!
- Musical accompaniment. It's great. But despite this, it seems to me that this is the only point in which the third part is inferior to the second. And of course the first one too.
To the minuses, I still attribute a certain “absurdity” of what is happening, and, perhaps, he has no more minuses.
I would recommend this movie to everyone. It will bring you a lot of positives. In particular, I recommend this cartoon to fans of the first part, since the events taking place here are parallel to the events of the first part, which is why some people call it “The Lion King 1.5”.

P.S. Why is this movie called Lion King 3: Akuna Matata? Its correct name is Hakuna Matata, not Akuna Matata.
The third "Lion King" did without the Lion King ... well
The main thing is that the cartoon turned out to be more or less suitable for viewing, in contrast to such cheap delirium as the so-called sequel to the magnificent cartoon Beauty and the Beast. Someone wrote a disappointing diagnosis about this creation in the review: “this studio does not know how to make sequels!” He's only right about this very "Miracle Christmas," but if you look at another example, it's not so grim. Most often, the sequels of Disney cartoons are released immediately on video, bypassing theaters, which either negatively affects the quality of graphics and the dynamism of the plot (see the above example), or the authors are conscientiously trying to make a qualitative continuation of the cartoon beloved by the audience - "The Lion King" second and third prove that this is possible. Moreover, the second part came out almost as chic as the first , and personally from me received the same highest score as the original. “The Lion King 2” continues the story of the first part, developing the relationship of old heroes, which is quite a logical plot, and the graphics are no worse than in the first part, despite the fact that the sequel was released immediately on video.
But the third part showed a completely different story, in which the main characters of the first two parts - lions - are practically not involved. “The Lion King 3. Akuna Matata develops a relationship a couple of secondary characters, about which, like, even the animated series was filmed - these are the favorites of children Timon and Pumba. If I am not mistaken, the third part is generally a prehistory to the first, that is, it shows the adventures of the boar and meerkat before meeting the lions. This is a rather silly cartoon, designed primarily for children - they may not even notice the difference between the first dilogy and the third part. They will sing along with Timon and Pumba the song "Akuna Matata" and laugh at every joke, while we adults will note how much the third part is behind the previous ones. Let’s face it – it lags far behind, but in itself is quite good. Yes, the plot is very naive and does not carry deep meaning, unlike the serious first part, which can instill high human feelings in children. But nevertheless, this part is positive, and even adults will not mind singing Timon and Pumba a song about a carefree life. So it's worth watching the whole trilogy.
Why did the creators make this movie? Apparently, only so that the warthog and meerkat told their own story, and a little spoiled the original cartoon.
It turns out that some epic moments from the original occurred through the fault of these two, and the opening scene where all the animals bow to the little Simba under the influence of... Pumba gases, the height of idiocy! The artists did not soar around the environment, and simply pasted slightly modified backgrounds from the 1st part, which makes the cartoon look more solid compared to the color-turning Pride Simba. The jokes were, they were really funny, they weren’t very funny. Good soundtrack, as in all parts. But despite all the shortcomings, nostalgia cartoon still causes.
In general, "Akuna matata" goes along with the animated series "Timon and Pumba" in all respects, a kind of children's pacifier stretched for almost an hour and a half.

While the world audience is conquered by the creations of such studios as Pixar and DreamWorks, the Disney film company itself continues to release sequels, occasionally diluting them with original tapes to its classic cartoons.
In 2004, another sequel to the Lion King was released. The action takes place in parallel with the events of the original cartoon in 1994. The main characters this time are well-known friends of Simba - Timon and Pumba. This couple travels through the vast expanses of Africa. Their paths repeatedly cross with Simba, although they will never meet. Although this pair will serve as the cause of some events occurring in the original cartoon.
The adventures of Timon and Pumba are interesting and fun to watch, but keep in mind that this is a cartoon, not loaded with special meaning. The main task of this tape is to make the viewer laugh, and not make him take some morality from what is happening, just as the tape does not make you think about values and the meaning of life. So, going to watch this cartoon, prepare for a funny show without much meaning. If you want to watch a picture like the original cartoon about the Lion King, then safely pass by this tape.
The picture was released in a limited edition in a small number of countries. And in Russia, it was not shown on large screens and was content only with DVD format. Despite this, the cartoon has a very good picture. All colors are bright, the characters are drawn very well, and the landscapes and views of Africa are sometimes fascinating.
The same can be said about music. Of course, this film does not have such great songs as in the previous parts. And in general, a large hour of music is taken from the original cartoon. However, the wonderful tracks from the first part will bring a lot of positive emotions.
This film is not able to compete with the original tape. He doesn't pretend to be. This is just a good way to have fun and turn off your head. And the opportunity to look at the events of the original cartoon from the other side can interest many fans of the original.
Why Do Children Love The Lion King & #39?
Because a lot of bright colors, constant singing, a dynamic plot - and a happy ending.
And why do adults feed to ' The Lion King' the warmest feelings?
Because children like it and because the right moral things clearly appear in the cartoon.
So what then should take boys, girls and, of course, their parents for a lively, skillfully squeezed by the original cartoon, a prequel, a midquel and even a partly sequel to the masterpiece Disney story about the lion Hamlet in the African expanses?
Obviously not a repetition - as they tried to do in the second part. Singings and pathetics of the first part can not be reproduced by any sequel - not to mention ' eclipse'.
Therefore, Brad Raymond cunningly squinted his eye, tried on, put the color to the music - and gave the viewer an animated comedy with a parody hue.
What can I say?
I laughed in my voice, sometimes to tears. And this despite the fact that ' The Lion King' I last watched thirteen years ago.
Timon and Pumba are burning desperately. In some places, however, infuriate the inept attempts of the translator and dubber to give meerkat Odessa flavor. Well, at least the warthog boar does not insert between the phrases ' Uh, slut, Vasya! I'm for Simba your sniff!' But, in general, the voices are well selected - and the usual characters speak exactly as the viewer expects to hear.
Of course, moralizing maxims (we are watching a Disney cartoon after all!) try to sound, appealing to simple, child-life problems. But they are invisible, like a page with statistics on the costs of the design bureau in the corner of the art gallery.
From beginning to end, the carefree Akuna-Matata mocks the tragic pathos of the first part, reducing the almost dramatic parts of the latter to a funny chap. At the same time, outrage ' blasphemy' absolutely do not want - a good joke has never hurt anyone.
The third part definitely succeeded. One of the best official works of the animated universe in the history of Disney.

The creators of the Lion King decided to take a different path, and they were right. It was great to see the story of the first part.
In fact, Timon and Pumba are very funny and memorable characters, so it is obvious that their story will be very funny.
There are a lot of appropriate and inappropriate jokes in this cartoon. And it's not just humor, Simba's growing up is kind of a brief narrative of how fast kids grow up. First sleepless nights, then he learns and does something better than you, and then he has a loved one and he spends more and more time with her and eventually leaves, well, leaves figuratively.
The episode in which Timon and Pumba tried to “spoil” Simba and Nala’s love was the most interesting one for me. In the first part, these were such happy moments, and suddenly it turned out that best friends tried to separate the sweet couple, but they failed, moreover, they did not spoil anything and even did better.
What can I say about humor? There's a lot of him and he's cool. But it is better to hear and see it yourself, the actors of the Russian dubbing perfectly convey it.
The music became the hallmark of the “lions”, as in the previous parts, it is simply wonderful.
Summing up, I can say that this is a great cartoon, not banal, interesting, funny. Just like in childhood, he immerses us in this wonderful world, just do not cry, feel love, but just laugh and understand what Hakuna-matata is. This is a great conclusion to the cult trilogy.
“The Lion King 3: Acuna Matata” is a bright and spectacular Disney animated film that reveals the story of the heroes Timon and Pumba, and the viewer sees what has not been shown before about these comical and eternally optimistic heroes who live a carefree life and do whatever they want.
In episodic moments, we see again the beloved lions who conquered millions of children in the first two cartoons. This Disney work turned out to be good and comical, but certainly not as beautiful and memorable as the first two cartoons about the lion king, but still I am sure that the children’s audience, “The Lion King 3: Akuna Matata” should like and bring a lot of positive emotions.
The cartoon turned out to be original and comic, but of course it can not be compared with the first two cartoons, and therefore personally I was not enthusiastic about this picture, but I still advise children to watch it, because there are a lot of good and bright things in it, which should definitely appeal to the children's audience.
I think those who love Timon and Pumba from this story will be delighted, because in this picture we see their acquaintances and many interesting nuances, which we did not know before. “The Lion King 3: Akuna Matata” is the third cartoon that shows us your favorite characters and again immerses us in the magical and incredible world that Disney invented and created.

The animated film “The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata” left only positive reviews. I just love this couple: a small, smart gopher Timon and, not so reasonable, but very cute boar Pumbu.
This film tells about how they first met each other, what they went through together before meeting the future king of Simba and how Timon found his place in the world. From "The Lion King" there is only a name here, the story of Timon and Pumba was based, so fans of Simba, Skara, etc. are likely to get bored of the cartoon. Very pleased with the secondary characters, good-natured mom Timon and the always grumpy Uncle Max. Old friend Rafiki, too, pleased, his lines and movements added to the cartoon a lot of brightness and, of course, charismatic hyenas here are not superfluous, but on the contrary complement the plot. It is also worth noting the music, in addition to the main theme "Akuna matata", in the third part a large number of beautiful music, dances, songs ... It does not need to look for any meaning, it is just a bright, funny and very positive cartoon that is worth watching for everyone, especially fans of the cartoon series “The Lion King”.

I had already met the 3rd, or rather part 1 1/2, myself in 2006 when I saw a cassette tape in the store. That same day I had the opportunity to see her. At first, I thought I'd see the new adventures of Timon and Pumba after the events of Part 2, but it turned out to be a little different. After the first viewing, the cartoon left a good impression. And after many views, these impressions remain unchanged.
"We'll start much earlier, long before we start."
The plot is based on the story of the acquaintance and adventures of Timon and Pumba, most of which are intertwined with the events of the first part of the Lion King. The characters of the main characters are almost completely revealed. The theme of friendship and the search for “their place” is shown. The plot is filled with many stops and comments by Timon and Pumba. At the beginning of the cartoon, the main characters sit in the cinema, as if they present their film to us and watch it with us, the audience. Very interesting and successful move.
"Please don't get up until the camera is moving!"
Most events are transmitted comically, resembling a parody. Some may not like it, a kind of parody, but I personally did not find it hard and superfluous. It is the comic that shows us that faithful friends Timon and Pumba look at everything cheerfully and carefree. Also, the undoubted advantage of this part is the display of Simba’s childhood and youth in the world of Hakun Matata, surrounded by meerkat and boar.
“I want to live where you don’t have to dig tunnels and keep burrowing your head in the sand!”
From the very first frames it became noticeable that the creators of the cartoon tried to recreate the animation of the first part as much as possible. Here it is significantly brighter than in the 2nd and evokes nostalgic associations with the beginning of the story. All the characters are well drawn.
You have to look beyond what you see.
The music was also great. Composer Don Harper did his job perfectly, delighting the audience with samples from the repertoire of Hans Zimmer and his music, which conveys the special spirit of Africa (Timon's Traveling Theme). In one episode, Timon's song (That's All I Need) was performed, which could have originally been used in the first part, instead of Hakuna Matata. But there, she'd fit in as well as here. The Lion Sleep Tonight; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
- Bye!
- Until morning!
Let us dream of a mosquito!
New heroes turned out to be interesting and memorable. Familiar characters please, as in the previous parts (Rafiki, Simba, hyenas).
"When you're idle all day, it's nice to rest later"
The humor of Timon and Pumba in all parts was bright and interesting, but here it is revealed in all its glory. You can talk about it a lot, but it is necessary to see, despite the fact that our actors of dubbing perfectly convey it. What is the only scene of Timon’s unsuccessful attempt to “propose” to hyena Shenzi?
"Music is very difficult to think!"
"I suspect it's definitely not Riverdance ballet."
Duplicate at a high level. The voiceover of Russian songs is very good. Songs that were performed in both the 3rd and 1st parts in the Russian version sound the same, when the old songs were sung in the original. In the original, these songs are performed well, but still the difference with the 1st part is audible. That's plus the Russian dubbing. Also in the original it was nice to hear the familiar voices of Robert Guillaume (Rafica), Matthew Broderick (Simba) Whoopi Goldberg (Hyena Shenzi) and of course the voices of the main characters played by Nathan Lane Ernie Sabella. In general, there are no complaints about the sound part.
To save Simba was once spit, then began the worst ... parental duties.
The entire cartoon feels nostalgic mood of the creators. Although almost all of them did not take part in the creation of the first part, but in terms of animation and musical component, the Lion King 1 1 1/2 is as close as possible to the first cartoon of 1994. As a result, the animated film turned out to be light and fun. Mood improvement guaranteed.
"Friendship is loyalty to the end"
In general, the Lion King 3, like the previous parts, is one of my favorite cartoons. I consider it a worthy conclusion to the stories of the Lion King.
There is nothing superfluous, but there are many interesting details. Intriguing story. For me, this part of the trilogy became an explanation to the other two, and even those aspects that you do not immediately pay attention to are revealed. After such wonderful works, you begin to treat life easier, many problems seem not so serious. It's a really easy and pleasant picture.
The main thing is to have a friend with whom you can remember the experience.
My assessment of this part is higher than the other two, and of course:
