Cartoons and movies, which have a basis-legend, are always very popular with a large number of viewers. Among the Disney projects, first of all, we can recall two: Pocahontas and Mulan. The first I watched not so long ago, it was my turn to look at the adaptation of the Chinese poem “The Song of Hua Mulan”, which I did at my leisure.
As a child, not watching either, and knowing only the girls Pocahontas and Mulan in absentia, I constantly confused them, and the plots built on military legends, in principle, in some ways echo. Now I know which of them is who, but the laurels go first. I'll explain why. Maybe it's my perception. After watching Pocahontas, the identical story of a warrior girl who, instead of an old father, goes to fight with nomadic Huns, looks somewhat secondary, but in general - certainly interesting. Mushu, a small dragon, and Creeky, a small cricket, also resemble funny pets Pocahontas.
What we don’t have is the graphics. The animation, worked out to the smallest detail, amazes with its depth and bright colors, despite the plot associated with the war. The first climax scene with an avalanche is incomparable! Together with the Huns, the viewer drowns in a snowstorm and falls into the abyss with Mulan, thereby fueling the interest of the viewer in the development of history.
Love, war, devotion, affection for parents, willingness to come to the rescue and save your neighbor - that's what this wonderful film is about. But, despite all the advantages, I still lacked something, perhaps a greater depth in characters and images. Pocahontas in this regard wins against Mulan several points.
I decided to watch this cartoon because of the obvious similarity with the domestic “Hussar Ballad”. There is an opinion that the USSR and the West rolled into the same abyss in different ways (in terms of the destruction of the family and the subsequent extinction of the population). It was very interesting to compare the works of different countries.
The idea seemed to be a good one - to show that a woman can not only knock down princes with her appearance (which, in fact, is what most Disney heroines do). Wonderful! Especially since there are a lot of stories on this topic. You don’t even need to invent, choose for every taste. But the trouble is that the authors for some reason did not suit a huge number of fairy tales, where women in disguise shine with their minds (and even how!). The girl had to be pushed no less than in the army, although in fairy tales I do not remember this.
And the main character at the beginning of the cartoon is shown to be quite normal and adequate. And the reason she had to go into the army is ridiculous, because I don't think even in those days there were old men who couldn't hold a gun. Like she goes into the army not out of aggressiveness and a desire to fight and kill, but out of great need.
Thus, the child’s consciousness is pushed through the false idea that a normal woman can join the army and succeed in military affairs. Don't be ridiculous! Better look at the biography of Nadezhda Durova (the prototype of the heroine of the “Hussar Ballad”) and others. These are people with serious mental disabilities, often bullied in childhood. You can look at the American girls who cut the throats of the bad guys in Iraq and Afghanistan. True, they do not look like women, but they differ from men - brutal cruelty and inadequacy (they like to post photos with corpses of enemies, severed heads, etc.).
In confirmation of the absurd idea of the normality of such people, a love line is introduced that we have (Lieutenant Rzhevsky) that the Americans have. Although history does not record cases of "girls" from armies of ancient times fell in love with men (orientation does not allow). And how they could fall in love with colleagues (a man in a man!) is not at all clear.
The episode where Mulan learns military art after a long training should be admired. But I thought, what if I could imagine it from the other side? A man dreams of becoming an artistic gymnast. After a long exhausting workout, he brings his body up to women's standards and even wins a medal at the World Cup. Cool? There is no difference from what is shown in the film.
Moreover, if in our film Rzhevsky and other men are shown to be normal (equality!), then in Mulan pure feminism - one girl fights for all stupid and worthless men. And the Chinese are generally shown as an incomprehensible rabble, since one boogie at the end can keep a whole crowd at bay.
Summing up, let us think – what is the morality of such works and why they were filmed? Well, we get it. Soviet women had to be ready to replace men in factories and then in the army. But American cartoons, apparently, are designed to satisfy feminists who dream of a same-sex society where men will not be, or they will be servants. But it's not the case. The average age of the population of many European countries has already exceeded the forty-year mark (emancipated women are not eager to give birth to more than one child), and the percentage of migrants is increasing at an alarming rate (someone needs to work instead of old people). Soon they will want to establish their order there (up to the burqa and other things).
So feminists who admire such cartoons should consider whether their daughters will end their lives in the harem.
An interesting story, imbued with courage and love
The story of an unusual girl, brave Mulan, who selflessly goes to war, instead of an elderly father. She understands that she can shame the family, but the life of her father is certainly more precious to her.
This movie is different from the standard princess stories. This is a true story of courage, wisdom, friendship and true love.
In an unusual environment, Mulan finds true friends and finds true love. Masculinity, courage and loyalty are features of Mulan.
In general, it is the same legend about Mulan, only more sincere and filled with feelings that lose value in the modern world. Bottom line: Mulan has a lot to learn!

It is one of these works of art and is "Mulan", the story of which gave us Walt Disney. Rediscovering for myself what I loved many years ago, I notice in this truly multifaceted story that for various reasons I could not notice before. All the depth and problems of the work, which is relevant in our time. "Mulan" is one of the few cartoons that everyone should actually see. And, for me personally, this is a story that I’m willing to safely reveal to my child. And the older he gets, the more he can see in it. Maybe it’s time for you to look deeper.
Not being ephemeral, the work is able not only to give new emotions, but also to awaken old ones that seem to have long rested in the depths of consciousness. Like many years ago, my heart was again compressed by the scenes of cutting hair and finding a doll in the village, and at the time of the appearance of Shan-Yu with a crow, I again remembered my childhood fear.

Mulan is my favorite Disney cartoon. Honestly, I have no idea why. I take great pleasure in constantly reviewing it. This is more than just a movie.
The action of the cartoon begins with the fact that evil and terrible gunas led by the cruel leader Shandyu invade China and under the means of this invasion, the Emperor is forced to raise an army: one male representative is required from each family.
In the family of our heroine Mulan, the only male is her father.
The image of Mulan is the image of a girl whom I, don’t think sheep, call a “boy.” She doesn't like all those women's pants. The most comical moment confirming my words is her so-called "Epic Fail" at the matchmaker's reception. After such disgrace, and in those days it was really shameful, she steals her father's armor and goes into the so-called army.
In the army, our heroine will experience the most serious test of life. There's no room for whiners in the army. I don’t know about it now, but it was really hard then: constant physical and combat exercises, long-distance crosses, etc. And considering the fact that our hero is a representative of the fair sex, for her it is generally torment. But the character of our heroine makes it clear: if upon arrival at the service she was nobody, then only then, showing her persistence and her character, she achieves respect among the team. This is what the film teaches: no matter who you are, you can achieve everything, the main thing is to persevere.
And now our "boy" is one of the best warriors in the squad, and yet she still hides her gender, because at that time women did not have the right to fight. War is a man's business. There is nothing for women to do there.
The biggest and best scenes I think are the scene where they found a looted village and a dead army at Tang Shao, and the scene at Tang Shao Pass. I'm going to pay more attention to the latter because it's so beautiful. As a child with a rich imagination, I always imagined myself in Mulan’s shoes (but not Mulan herself) as I fought Shandyu and his gang.
After showing courage on this pass, being wounded, she loses consciousness, and at this very moment her friends and colleagues realize that it was actually a woman. And instead of thanking her for saving an entire army without loss and destroying the army, but not the enemy itself, she is left alone. But the enemy was not completely defeated and he intends to take revenge on a major one. Although our heroine is no longer an honorary warrior, she still decides to confront the enemy at all costs, because Mulan is not used to surrender.
The ending of the cartoon is already clear. Good conquers evil, all are happy.
A few words would like to mention the data.
For that time, the picture and landscapes were at the highest level. It is worth remembering only the defeated village of Tan Shao with its gloomy red landscapes, as if death itself had visited there. To begin with, this wonderful cartoon is part of my happy childhood (which I watched 10 years ago, it’s scary to think, on cassette!). There was a time... And for that, thank you very much. But this is not the only reason to give Mulan a high rating. The film can be praised endlessly.
In 1998, the well-known studio Walt Disney Pictures releases “Mulan” and thereby makes many people fall in love with the cartoon. Throughout the cartoon, funny incidents occur and Mushu constantly humors, which leads to even greater delight.
The film is amazing – with a deep idea and meaning. It is worth seeing for everyone. Everyone will learn something of their own and never forget Mulan. I hope that after another ten years, this cartoon will be watched and praised. He deserves it.
"Mulan" is a cartoon of my childhood, which I probably will not forget. Another masterpiece of the studio Walt Disney Pictures, which teaches compassion, courage, courage and much more.
It is also amazing that many people worked on this creation for 5 years! Graphics on 4 plus five, too cartoon characters, although for that time it is not surprising. I really liked the appearance of the Glavgad – Shan Yu, the leader of the Huns. The atmosphere of the cartoon is very cheerful, colorful, and sometimes gloomy. And this is correct, because in sad moments there should not be a cheerful atmosphere. “Mulan” is a very kind and instructive cartoon and will be interesting to watch for children and adults alike, although I am a little surprised that the film received a PG rating at the beginning. And how amazingly conveyed the atmosphere of ancient China! Here we can see some of the customs of that time and just plunge into the life of the then inhabitants. This is, in principle, the most famous work of directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, and in my opinion, the most worthy, because Mulan 2 was created by completely different people. The cartoon, even such little-known directors, collected a very considerable amount at the box office, although this is the merit of the Disney studio, and of course the quality of the cartoon itself.
The plot of this cartoon at that time was quite original. A girl who dressed as a man, brought shame to her family, and then made her famous all over China. Needless to say, Disney can choose legends. In general, the plot is very good, almost does not contain any stamps. Although, to be honest, dragon Mushu reminds me of someone. We see this hero in many cartoons, only he is called differently, this is a kind of “joke” of the whole picture, from which we hear most jokes. But that doesn’t make it any less funny. Mulan has revolutionized the way women are treated, not only in China but throughout the East. She is very courageous and brave, and is also a kind of female hero, because Mulan not only “stole her father’s armor.” She ran away. You pretended to be a soldier. I let my commander down. Disgrace the Chinese army. Destroyed my palace. She saved us all, as the Emperor said, but she also managed to find her happiness.
The voiceover was performed at a very high level. I especially liked the voice of the dragon Mushu in the American version. Yes, Eddie Murphy is always on top, he is a true professional in his field.
The musical accompaniment is also impressive. It is very good and fits into the picture itself, and is also pleased with the presence of Eastern music, because the film itself is made in this style. The music is very diverse, because there are more than 30 compositions, for this we have to thank quite a famous and already retired composer Jerry Goldsmith.
In general, the cartoon is very good, everyone should see it. Everyone will find something for themselves in it. But it is not without flaws, so:
Li Shang has three weeks to prepare young soldiers for war with the nomadic Guns. Everything would be fine if there was not a girl in his army dressed as a warrior for his beloved old father. No one knows her secret except her and the dragon Mushu. But if the deception is revealed, it can be killed.

He knows his goal and goes to it, he does not give up, even when soldiers do not succeed in simple things, he behaves very seriously and in an adult way, although in every person there is a child hidden, even in an obligated one like Lee. He is an intelligent strategist and a good friend who respects the laws, but is ready to evade them even for the sake of his concepts.
Mushu — here he is, our beloved dragon, in this little creature so good and positive that sometimes it seems that he glows from the inside. Mushu, probably my favorite character of this cartoon, his anecdotes are so funny that I, despite the fact that I watch this cartoon quite often, still laugh from the heart.
Soldiers! In the morning you will gather here, keeping order. Any infringer will deal with me.

Once my parents bought me that already famous film tape, which had a cartoon about the engine. I don’t remember what the reason was, but an exchange was made, and instead I had “Mulan”. I didn't want to watch because of the offense! But I was jailed for watching. And for more than 10 years, I thank not only my parents, but also my beloved Disney.
To say that the cartoon is wonderful is to say nothing. In my opinion, Mulan is almost the best heroine of all the masterpieces of this film studio. After all, Mulan not only saves China and her father; she gains something very valuable, namely, she knows herself.

One of the best Walt Disney studios! Despite the not-so-original script, the performance turned out just amazing, every time I look like a feature film! I think it's really Masterpiece!
I remember as a child, at one of the moments when the Hun lifts a falcon doll and sniffs, I clearly smelled smoke and earth... to such an extent I was imbued with the smallest details.
The soundtrack is just wonderful - breathtaking at the moments of battle, the jokes are really funny, the soundtrack is really good, ready to just listen to the soundtrack separately from the cartoon itself.
It’s in your heart and stays there for life!
And one of those rare examples of an animated film that you are ready to review endlessly and it will not bother you.
