Is he so incomprehensible, this chilling horror? As Hamlet would say, “Everything is bad in Canadian cinema.” In our case, this refers to the film The Untold, directed by Jonas Quastel.
Monster-movie turned out to be none, forgive me those who the film, in terms of the declared horror in the description of the genre of the picture, could like. Take away the ending, a couple of standard "creepy" scenes, a man in a Bigfoot suit and what's left? The question is, where are the horrors and violence? That's right, they don't.
According to the promising audience, the plot was the fall of an aircraft carrying a prototype of a miracle device of a corporation, and by "pure" chance the only daughter of the head of an unnamed company flew on the same charter flight. Equipped with a rescue expedition, as usual, driven by the good intentions of Knowles ( Henriksen). But is that really true? The true motives of the whole operation are revealed closer to the middle of the tape: to look for / rescue someone or what? Oh, yes, at the very beginning we are given to understand that in this god-forgotten wilderness inhabits a certain creature.
If we reject the fact that somewhere there is a bloodthirsty sasquatch (as it turned out - completely peaceful and human in nature, fell into a frenzy for a reason ... I will not write, so as not to spoiler); and the search for a device worth a fabulous bunch of greens; characters, strolling normally, as in their backyard lawn in a wild and inhospitable area, the beauty of the landscape chosen is simply striking - the snow-covered coniferous forests of Canada, waterfalls, a magnificent panting atmosphere, where there is never a grove, but a magnificent atmosphere. A snow-white blanket, wrapped at this time of year part of the North-West coast of the country wedge leaf — without comment.
In my opinion, Bigfoot here is absolutely superfluous, it was possible to shoot a good adventure film - a rescue operation of possible survivors of a plane crash, with the participation of the same actors, with one or two survivors, and it would have been more dynamic and interesting than an attempt to confront Henriksen's squad with an unknown cryptide, especially in the light of zero action and dynamics associated with hunting and tearing apart these same tourists.
From the actors who I know and have seen from previous works in cinema: Henriksen, Parker-Durance, Mouth, a scene with the latter in a tent and a hot spring, as an attempt to brighten up the harsh reality of a moldy project with at least something lively. Of the new ones I liked Russell Ferrier as a breath of fresh air and joy for not the highest quality game of all the other people involved.
Verdict: thirsty for bloody scenes and frightening action of horror, you can safely say: “No sauce to serve!” If for you all these wiggling branches, with a potential monster behind the tree, all these roars and rumblings in the pitch darkness of the Yeti, and you like to enjoy the natural picture in films - the expanses with the colorful and snow-capped forests of northern Canada are at your service.
