' City Lights' is a vivid example of how you can talk about love without saying a word.
The main line of the film is about a love story, and it’s as if Charlie tells us that love should be felt, and words are not necessary, because they are the worst way to say that you love. And over time, you realize that hearing is the least appropriate way to really make sure of something, because we've all been fooled many times.
A brilliant artist is one who, using a simple example, can tell about a thing without saying its name - through facial expressions, music and other techniques. That is the value of people like Charles. The viewer can see the invisible. The essence of this picture in one look, in one touch.
Comedy is a true parody of the vices of reality in the form of a joke. This film clearly shows the scourges of that century. And to be honest, so is this century.
Chaplin created a visual illustration for centuries, reminiscent of one literal truth - ' only the heart is sharp. . . '
Charlie Chaplin’s films have been included in the lists of the most significant films in history and in the lists of those films that every person must watch at least once in his life for almost a hundred years. And the first film Chaplin for me was exactly The name of this film has always been associated with Chaplin, although this was not his first film with the Tramp. Now, after several other equally famous films, I say that the City Lights is a great film that will open the door to the world of creativity of the great actor and director Charlie Chaplin.
This is the story of a clumsy and cheerful Tramp in a worn suit, a bowler hat with a cane. He travels to various cities of the country, gets into incredible accidents and just as incredible way to get out of them. One day he meets a poor blind flower girl on the street. The tramp immediately falls in love with the girl, and she considers the Tramp a rich duke. Learning that it is possible for the girl to regain her sight with the help of surgery, Tramp goes in search of funds, getting into all sorts of incredible situations.
Probably, if you tell a person about a silent comedy, then he will certainly immediately remember films with Tramp. Could Chaplin himself imagine that he is making a film that a century later will not lose its relevance and will continue to laugh generations of the future? After all, even now we also laugh at all the incidents in which the little Tramp constantly falls, and at the same time - we can not help worrying about him. After all, this image of a little man with a difficult life, who for some reason always has no luck, is known even to those who have not seen a single Chaplin film, but who won our hearts with his kindness, selflessness and a golden heart. And yet we do not stop laughing as we watch him escape from the police, a chic dinner in a restaurant and a comic boxing match.
At first we think it’s a comedy movie, but it’s a tragicomedy. Many moments here are positioned as dramatic and at times sentimental. The tramp is very poor and clumsy, but tries to help the same poor girl by any means. Their joint scenes here are very sensual and soulful, which cannot but cause tears in the viewer’s eyes.
It is worth noting that Chaplin not only directed the film and played the main role in it, but also acted as a producer, editor and composer of the picture. It has long been known that the film could be sonic, and how Charlie stood up for his vision. And this music, somewhat reminiscent of the musical accompaniment in the circus, has long become iconic and instantly recognizable.
Hearing the name Charlie Chaplin all immediately remember the image of a man with a mustache in ragged clothes with a bowler hat, The Tramp. One of the most famous film characters in history is a small man with a kind heart, but without a penny in his pocket, and despite this, he is always ready to help people who need help. As here, Tramp tries to help a blind girl regain her sight, and also saves a millionaire from suicide. In the history of the Tramp, you can trace allusions to the poor childhood of Charlie himself, who in the movie plays ordinary people trying to survive in difficult life situations, without losing hope that everything in life will certainly change for the better.
Virginia Cherrill played the role of a blind girl selling flowers. Although there were a lot of disagreements and scandals between her and Chaplin during the filming, she played wonderfully – we can watch her try to live an ordinary life, not paying attention to her illness or poverty, and so grateful to an unknown benefactor who gives her hope that she will one day be able to see him. The final scene finally touches the viewer and melts our hearts.
The lights of the big city show us a masterpiece of the comedy genre, the standard of world cinema, which will make us laugh until we fall, and then cry with sadness and happiness. Whether Charlie thought his films would go down in history as the greatest achievements of the art of film, we will never know. But like the audience many years before us, we will continue to laugh, worry and love this wonderful movie!

My acquaintance with Chaplin: The Romantic of Silent Cinema
I didn't think this movie would suit me like that. I avoided the work of the legendary Charlie Chaplin, but getting acquainted with him now, when hundreds of films have already been viewed, I get aesthetic pleasure. After reading the history of cinema, you treat cinema in a completely different way, from the Lumiere brothers to the epic of Zack Snyder – a huge way of art. The main historical phenomenon and innovative component was Charles Chaplin - the author and performer of a revolutionary film.
“Lights of the Big City” is the most popular film of the director, screenwriter, lead actor. Chaplin was all faces! The story follows a tramp who falls in love with a blind flower seller. Wanting to help her, the character gets into absurd situations, allowing the genre to jump from comedy to drama. Humor lies in the behavior of Chaplin, and elements of pantomime and buffoonade allowed to highlight comic effects. Separate inserts of direct speech, or explanations of the circumstances of time and place are perfectly combined with the image on the screen. In 1931, Chaplin is already creating a serious romantic comedy, where every action of the character, although not predictable, lies at the heart of the whole story.
It's amazing how accidents happen. Only inspired by romance, Chaplin rejoices at the gifted flower, only the viewer is given a drop of drama, as we see the accidental and comic consequences. A drunk stranger who decided to take his own life has an important role in the development of the protagonist. The whole film consists of accidents and certain conditions, and a sober or drunk stranger has a positive or negative impact.
The film jumps across genres, following strictly the storyline. Intrigues the situation with a woman, and at the same time funny situation. But one day random actions create an awkward situation, and a game with the viewer comes. We see the whole picture of what is happening, but are unable to help the main character, are forced to watch the ups and downs, and the plot twists the circumstances so that all the actions of Chaplin are performed with the best intentions, although others perceive differently.
A great sentimental feeling evokes an episode with a whistle. It’s accidental, but the consequences are so unfolding that you want to be in the movie and protect Charlie. What about the final accident? It wasn't like that. This is wrong! You misunderstood. But you can't explain anything to anyone. Romance perfectly accompanies the whole film, to climax to leave an open ending.
This is a touching story of a simpleton in love who attracts with his appearance, his non-special actions, his attempts to achieve a goal. Well, the first "Chaplinov" film gave a great mood.
Albert Einstein himself came to see the film. Meanwhile, Charlie Chaplin was worried. The era of silent cinema was coming to an end, movies with sound were already being played in theaters, and City Lights was a silent film. But Charlie experienced in vain, the film was his great success and liked both the audience and critics.
They always tell the story of a blind girl and a poor man. But rarely anyone says that in addition to this, there are many other cool scenes in the film. For example, the way Chaplin discourages a rich man from jumping into the water with a stone around his neck, and then they get drunk together. Or the boxing Chaplin — the scene is both sad and funny — because Charlie does it for a blind girl.
And also in the film you can look at the real America of the 30s, filmed "City Lights" in Los Angeles. The movie is full of details.
$10, for which Charlie buys a basket of flowers from a girl for today's money - $ 155, and $ 22 that the girl owes for rent - $ 342.
One of the heroes of the film, a rich man sent to Europe by ship. And the thing is that in the early 30s, when the film takes place, passengers had not yet flown across the ocean. In 1939, Pan American launched a flight from New York to Marseille. It will take 29 hours to fly. The ticket will cost $ 375 - crazy at the time money.
And in the film, some cars in America have right-hand drives.
It’s a really good movie, honestly.
There are films for which there are no ratings. You can write a huge review, but it won’t make any sense. Because some movies are better just to see. ' City Lights' is a film for all time. It came out on the screens, scary to say, 89 years ago! But it's still not outdated. It is one of the greatest diamonds in the history of cinema. The story of a vagrant who fell in love with a blind girl and decided to get her money for treatment. Very touching and funny picture. Charlie Chaplin knew how to create such stories. There are no words in the film, but there is music. Gentle, lyrical, touching the finest strings of your soul. The music was written by Chaplin himself and he was a genius. As an actor, Charlie brilliantly plays his image, making you worry about his character, laugh and cry with him. As a director, he crafts every scene. As a composer, he decorates the film with beautiful melodies that create a unique atmosphere. And no matter how many years have passed since the premiere, the viewer will cry with happiness when Charlie smiles at the girl at the meeting in the finale.
The Tramp in the City or the Great Chaplin: Part Four
Tragicomedy. And again I want to talk about another masterpiece of the great Charlie Chaplin, which will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Like many of his works, I saw this masterpiece on the channel 'Culture' as a growing boy who knew nothing. But even then, for the first time, he caught me. Now I can’t remember my childhood emotions, maybe humor, maybe image (if I understood the meaning of these words at all). After a while, I watched it again on the box - and since then almost forgot it. You know, it's the only Chaplin masterpiece that I don't remember the history of, paradoxically, but it is. Moreover, I confused the main script line with his other wonderful work 'Ramp Lights'. God damn it. Here is my brief opinion - the difficult misadventures of the Tramp in the city. There are no drawbacks in this masterpiece, there was not and will not be, because there is simply nothing to complain about. It's done perfectly. Therefore, I will dwell on the expressive merits of this masterpiece of the great director.
So here they are:
1. The story is about the new misadventures of the Tramp, who, obeying his good heart, decides to help a young girl - a flower girl who is blind. And then he saves a drunken millionaire from death. Then there was a story full of tragedy and comedy that just amazed. History ' City Lights' touching, dynamic, with sharp turns and with a strong ending that will not leave anyone indifferent. Making up stories is Charlie’s real passion, as proven by all his work. I personally enjoyed it!
2. Humor - again falls, again curves, again beatings. It would seem that you can get used to it already. But why is that funny? Sometimes I laughed at the top of my voice with the ingenious simplicity of the jokes. Chaplin is just a genius of comedy, able to make the viewer laugh with just gestures. It works even now, decades later. Genius!
3. Tragedy - it is tied to the blind flower girl and the conditions of her life. Chaplin very skillfully selected the music in these moments, so we can feel the pain of this girl. Although here the tragedy of the Tramp is also played out - a beggar with a good heart, forced to do illegal things in order to at least slightly facilitate the life of the girl. The most apogee of this comes in the finale - when the tears of the viewer flow simultaneously from happiness and sadness.
4. Satire on society - it is not as obvious as in 'New Times' nevertheless clearly present. The drunken millionaire personifies ' the highest light' the butler - sycophants, the police - armed servants of the rich, ready to imprison anyone who points to a fat purse. It was then, is now, and will continue as long as the heart of man is ruled by money, not feelings!
A bit about the main characters:
1. Tramp performed by Charlie Chaplin - a homeless man who saw a blind flower girl - the battle decided to help her, having nothing behind his soul. The greatest tragicomedic character you always worry about. Chaplin always portrayed ordinary people in his works, for which he shot. What I like about him is that he didn’t get rich from his work – he came from a poor acting family, and he stayed that way until his last breath. Bravo Charlie!
2. Blind girl performed by Virginia Cherrill is a flower girl living with her grandmother, leading a poor lifestyle. Despite his blindness, he believes in goodness and love that will help him overcome everything. Meeting with the Tramp becomes a turning point in her fate. Virginia perfectly managed to bring this image to the screen. You trust her and empathize with her. Bravo Virginia!
3. The millionaire played by Harry Myers is a rich man, leading an idle lifestyle, who is saved by the Tramp, after which the strange 'friendship' begins; such different heroes. It is a typical example of a rich man, one species of which causes unpleasant associations. Harry did a great job in this role!
As a result, we have a masterpiece of tragicomedy about the misadventures of the Tramp and a blind girl - a flower girl with excellent humor, touching and soulful moments, brilliant music and a powerful finale that does not leave anyone indifferent!

Charlie’s hero, a lonely and impoverished traveler through the unpredictable labyrinths of life, by the will of fate meets a very wealthy gentleman who invites him to visit him, and then to a restaurant, where he offers him to taste expensive cigars. Before that, the vagrant was consoled by extinct cigars picked up on the street, and now he has a long-awaited chance to finally learn how people live who are more lucky in life than he is.
After some time, he comes to the mysterious conclusion that this meeting was not accidental for him, because he had previously met a beautiful but, unfortunately, blind girl. And the thing here is that, firstly, he liked her too much, and secondly, she, as it turned out, could have been helped to some extent by an eye surgery - for a certain fee, of course.
I must say that it was not an accidental meeting for this rich man. After all, he met the hero of Charles Chaplin at a rather controversial moment in his life. But this acquaintance reclines to the very background, to the margins of this story.
That’s how these three people ended up tied together. What does Life invent to help people, and the main tools in the hands of Life in the cause of salvation and help are just such as the Tramp - honest, kind, defenseless and pure in soul people. Because it is precisely in this apparent weakness and infirmity that lies a great secret power, constantly striving to ennoble and heal this world, which is mired in suffering and disease. So love and compassion will save the world, not meditation and nirvana.
The film is surprisingly touching, rich in content and especially in meaning. The atmosphere of those years somehow very brightly and clearly emphasizes some minor details and moments, and due to this, the film becomes even more interesting and fun. In fact, this film is about selfless love, about its power. And what a person is capable of for the sake of true love.

To begin with, I would like to thank the company “Other Cinema” for the rental of classic paintings in restored form in dozens of regional cinemas in Russia, including the screening of four films by Charles Spencer Chaplin, dedicated to his 130th anniversary. In my subjective, adoring Chaplin view, City Lights, along with Rampa Lights, is his best picture, although all of his feature films, with the exception of the last two, are decimal masterpieces, in which there is no conceptual or stylistic flaw.
City Lights is a very multifaceted film that combines elements of anti-bourgeois criticism of American society in the midst of the Great Depression, brilliantly designed and executed gags (also stuffed with symbolism, which is generally rare for silent comedy) and romantic lyrics of a love story. In 87 minutes, Chaplin’s virtuoso directorship manages to tell a fascinating story, draw the viewer’s attention to social ulcers, laugh and touch and all in such a short time! The complex of complex emotions, the transition from homerically cheerful to cardiac warmth is almost imperceptible to the viewer, in the picture there is no monotony of a single intonation, but a whole cocktail of feelings, elegantly mixed into an organic whole.
Watching the film for the fourth time (and for the first time on the big screen), I was always amazed at how stupid and helpless modern comedies are compared to this immortal (and even mute!) tape of Chaplin. In addition, before us is one of the best soundtracks in the cinema, written by the director himself, it lies so well on the image, emphasizes the video, highlighting the necessary accents (for example, a brilliant scene with a swallowed whistle), the audiovisual structure is so harmonious and ideal that, in my opinion, in comedies it was never surpassed by anyone.
Drifting from the picture to the picture of Chaplin, the image of the tramp is worked out here more carefully than in his short meter - everywhere he appears, he causes chaos, unbalancing fragile social well-being, or rather its appearance, flaunting social flaws, without wanting it. Therefore, the opening scene of the monument reveals the absurdity of the bourgeois world order, falsely understood by those in power who have patriotic pathos, all the abnormality of the class system. Similarly, in scenes at parties, in a restaurant, on the street of a vagabond, this embodied reproach of bourgeois inhumanity by its very appearance and behavior demonstrates the vitality of the “little man” in the millstones of social mechanisms (in “New Times”, this metaphor is literalized).
However, before us - not only comedy, but also melodrama, moderately sentimental, moderately lyrical, but without the snot of mass culture. Chaplin’s work in general is a vivid example of not mass, but truly folk art, which is both deep and understandable to everyone. Chaplin, like no one else in silent cinema, invented a universal film language that talks about the existential phenomena of human existence in an extremely simple and accessible way. The metaphor of blindness, which does not see class differences, but subtly feels the warmth and cordiality of actions, not only touched the vagabond Chaplin, but revealed the breadth of his personality, his deep humanity (in the final close-up behind the mask of the character the author himself shines through).
The democracy of Chaplin in this picture reaches its peak on the level of both form and content: sympathy for the disadvantaged, aversion to the predatory instincts of the bourgeoisie, a subtle mockery of the changing worldview of one of the characters depending on sobriety - all this made Chaplin a stranger in Hollywood with his cult of social Darwinism and so understandable in the homeland of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. In Russia, Chaplin is loved, probably, as nowhere else (I asked the viewer, who sat with me in the fifth row, how many times she watches this film, she answered – in the fiftieth), although there were only two people in the hall with me. But I believe that years from now, even our consumerist youth will get tired of iPhones and they will no longer be appendages of gadgets and will discover a truly human one. Chaplin can help her like no one else.
In comparison with the previous hits of the brilliant actor and director, such as “Baby” and “Golden Rush”, the idea of “Big City Lights” turned out to be much more humorous. This means that the picture, positioning itself as a tragicomedy, highlighted the main features of this genre from the strength of thirty percent of the total screen time.
It would be easy to call the storyline weak “scenario attempts” (everyone knows how reverent Charles relates to his work), as the film turned out really worthy. But behind all these “hooks” in restaurants, rich houses and boxing rings (the last location was very epic), the very essence and problems that constantly distract the viewer from the base were lost.
Yes, we see the same Tramp from the big road, living with adventures in life and “leaky” pockets. The chic facial expressions, plasticity and sometimes improvisational game of the main character enter into dissonance with the surrounding world, so clumsy as a stone around the neck of the same “drowned”. Just the same offshoot from the plot, which, as many people think, justifies all the work and integrity of the film, only unreasonably “mudders the water” and does not allow the real revelation to “break out”. And you can argue here endlessly, but all (minor) sins are overshadowed by the chic final scene, which was quite worth all that senseless spree.

Charles Spencer Chaplin, an incredibly talented and brilliant man! Writer, director, composer, producer, editor, even in his mind do not fit all his abilities. The tramp created by Chaplin character evokes sympathy, that magical feeling when you can not break away from this sloppy simpleton. Charisma is capable of captivating even without words!
They are a big city, without a doubt, one of the best films. At the very beginning, primitive jokes can be pushed away (this is now, they will seem primitive), but I can assure you that this is the tip of the iceberg and I recommend looking further. In this film, you will find really worthy jokes, relevant and funny, even for our time.
Very beautiful script! It is designed according to all the laws of drama. For the vagrant, you worry, you worry, you get angry for not being fair. The film evokes feelings and empathy. The end of the film, definitely touches, may even make you drop a tear.
It is amazing how Chaplin every time, achieves from the viewer feelings, without sound, color, graphics, etc. without which now it is impossible to imagine a movie. Definitely in the piggy bank of your favorite movies!
Charlie Chaplin is not just a director or a screenwriter, he is a cult figure, a separate genre of cinema! His funny and soulful comedies will not leave anyone indifferent.
One of Charlie Chaplin's comedies is City Lights. In the plot of the film, a small tramp (Charlie Chaplin himself) at first sight falls in love with a blind girl selling flowers on the street (Virginia Cherrill). By coincidence, the main character at acquaintance resembles a rich Duke. And a little tramp who can't afford to buy new pants sets out in search of money to help a beautiful flower merchant.
“The Lights of the City” is a silent film, but without words you can understand absolutely everything that is happening! While watching, I managed to laugh from the heart, and it’s great to worry about the main character. Just think, for the sake of love, he is ready not only to fight, but even to get a job!
But not only the love line of a vagabond and a blind girl deserves attention, but also a millionaire, whom he met under several frightening circumstances. As funny as this hero is, he is just as tragic.
But in the first place is love! For the sake of love, the tramp got into different situations, for the sake of a beautiful girl was ready for anything.
“City Lights” is a classic comedy film, where laughter is diluted with emotions, and at the end comes the long-awaited Happy End. This simple and kind film is able to touch to the core.
Charlie Chaplin became for the film and the director, and producer, and the main actor, and one of the screenwriters, and composer! That’s what it means to give yourself to work! In addition to Chaplin, Harry Carr and Harry Crocker worked on the script.
Charlie Chaplin’s efforts have yielded good results. “City Lights” takes first place in the top ten romantic comedies according to AFI. In 1991, the film was included in the National Film Registry. And, of course, the best reward is the recognition of the audience. Today, the name of Charlie Chaplin is still heard by many.
In addition to the fact that the film is beautiful and deserves attention, there is only one thing to say: the film is silent, and therefore requires full attention, so as not to miss a single detail. But I promise, fully devoting an hour and a half, you will be satisfied with the time spent.
In any film school, you will be told that in order to understand how a real movie should look like, and finally, to understand the film language, you need to watch a silent movie. You will probably start with Charlie Chaplin.
And yes, they'll be right.
Why should you spend time watching old movies? Because you will understand the whole movie without knowing the language at all. Accompanying music and acting tell the story themselves, with absolutely no dialogue.
In my opinion, the cool thing about films of the time is that history moves through action and only through action. Dialogue does not solve anything.
Acting. It is theatrical so that the viewer can understand more by the facial expressions of the characters (and do not forget that this is a comedy and, of course, there are many exaggerated scenes in the film).
And of course, modern cinema has taken a lot from there. For example, I immediately think of comedies with Rowan Atkinson or with Jim Carrey in the title role, with similar methods of playing. And the ability to harmoniously use music so that the viewer understands the mood of the scene (and not just for beauty to insert).
Charlie has his own charm and charm, which you will definitely note for yourself.

A small stature, a funny hat, a gentleman's cane, ridiculous microscopic black mustache, a clown gait, wide pants, mockingly "seasoned" with giant shoes - all this can undoubtedly make up the image of only a comedy-caricature character who appeared on blue screens to conquer the audience with his magnificent art of wordless acting and amazing humorous talent. However, some of the above is quite capable of recalling a completely different hero - the famous Hercules detective named Hercule Poirot, who was created by the legendary storyteller of the detective genre Agatha Christie and after some time acquired a cult status among fans of the works of the mentioned writer. However, the unique and charming Little Tramp, without any exaggeration skillfully embodied by Charlie Chaplin - of course, a character from a completely different opera.
Of course, Charles Spencer Chaplin’s glorious name was familiar to me from a young age. But, frankly, I really decided to get acquainted with his work relatively recently, because some pathetic scraps of silent black and white ribbons with the participation of the great master, seen by me in early childhood, have already managed to forget. Admittedly, the picture “City Lights” became one of my favorite films immediately after the first “experimental” viewing – the author of these lines did not receive such a charge of positivity and fun for a long time. That’s what the creation of a brilliant comedian means – even after so many decades since its creation and release, his work is still able to bring joy, sincere laughter and good mood. Including - and a very sophisticated / pretentious connoisseur of cinema from the 21st century.
What is worth one scene of an outstanding boxing match, which I watched several times separately from the film, and during her debut vision laughed almost to tears. I think that in terms of the power of the comic effect with this fight can compete except that the scene of automatic feeding of the working hero Chaplin in his later film “New Times”. However, all this is probably a matter of taste, and there is no dispute about taste. And at the same time, there are no, I apologize for the expression, s***, s**t, bowel movements, stupidity, flatness and everything else that many modern comedies are so famous for – for example, all parts of the notorious “Very Scary Cinema”, not to mention such genuine anti-masterpieces of the parody genre as “The Best Film” and “Very Russian Detective”. If you wish, of course, this list is quite possible to continue, but there is no special sense and need for this, perhaps.
The Little Tramp, who is the main character of the “Big City Lights”, is just a representative of the social bottom of some abstract “stone jungle”, a ridiculous, hopeless loser and a despicable outcast for locals like normal citizens. However, without long doubts, he demonstrates considerable nobility and a certain courage for the sake of his “unexpected” lover, who, as it turned out, needs urgent help. The moral here, in my opinion, is obvious – one should not judge any person solely by his social status, material position and appearance. As the saying goes, “not all gold is glittering” and vice versa. Thus, the classic film “Lights of the big city” still can not be considered one hundred percent and unambiguous “movie attraction-divertissement” – without significant difficulty it is quite guessed and the so-called semantic component with a slight touch of drama.
The eccentric drinker-millionaire in the excellent performance of Harry Myers, one of the main characters of this story and a casual acquaintance of Little Tramp, clearly symbolizes all the hypocrisy of the supposedly upper strata of society of that time, since (primarily depending on the amount of drink) behaves absolutely differently in relation to the seemingly worthless Chaplin character. A pretty street seller of flowers, on the contrary, personifies pristine purity, kindness and innocence - a lover Tramp simply can not help her, learning about the serious problems of the marvelous flower girl. I will add that, in my opinion, the canvas of the early 30s can be quite put on a par with even the best Soviet examples of the comedy genre of cinema - such as "Diamond Hand", "Gentlemen of Fortune", "Irony of Fate", "Adventures of Shurik", "Golden Calf", etc. If someone does not think such a comparison is quite correct and acceptable, then fine – all this is subjective and individual.
To convey in words the whole comedic atmosphere, the talent of humorous moments / episodes and some touching and good-natured charm of this work, of course, is impossible - all this, as they say, you need to see yourself. Of course, the world-renowned Chaplin has other very worthy paintings – the same “New Times”, short in terms of modest duration “Kid”, “Circus”, “Gold Rush”, military parody “The Great Dictator”, dramatic and minimally comedic “Monsieur Verdu”. But for some reason, it was “City Lights” that I liked more than all the above films of the talented comedian of the 20th century – and the virtuoso maestro himself, as I recently found out, at one time put this tape on the honorable first place in the list of personal films. And it is not surprising that the beautiful “Lights” won a resounding title of a masterpiece of world cinema, and is also considered one of the best romantic comedies in the history of cinema – in my humble opinion, all this is very deserved.
If to speak and sum up a peculiar result literally in a few words - kind, bright, positive, in its own way witty, funny, touching, sometimes moderately dramatic and charming film, which certainly will not take the viewer too much time due to its very short-lived timing (although there are shorter creations), and also certainly will not make him regret watching. The fact that the picture is mute and black and white is understandable, is not a reason to call it hopelessly outdated for current connoisseurs and by all means avoid getting acquainted with one of the undoubtedly outstanding works of the true master of a particular genre of cinema. I, for example, became convinced of this on my own experience-example - the cinema of bygone years can easily be much more interesting and valuable than many modern crafts-one-day, saturated with all sorts of special effects and other bells and whistles. However, for quite “sophisticated” film lovers, I think this is unlikely to be a real revelation.
When I’m asked about the best movie in the history of cinema, I confidently answer: it’s City Lights.
Not far off, as this film will cross its century mark, and we still watch, love, experience and cry, watching the adventures of a little tramp.
This film was shot at the beginning of the golden age of Hollywood and forever claimed a place in history.
It's a movie that doesn't need words or dialogue. A movie about the eternal, about the most important. All the feelings and aspirations of the protagonist do not need words, they are understandable without words. It is clear to everyone from small to large.
A little man in a big city in a period of great depression does not give up and does not lose heart. He easily overcomes obstacles and pushes people to such achievements.
Anything is possible, Charlie tells us. If you have a goal, if you have something to fight for, you will definitely come to this and achieve it!
It's a creation beyond evaluation. It gives us time to watch and enjoy ourselves.
And of course, bow down, perhaps for the best love movie ever made!
The first thing that comes to mind when pronouncing the phrase “silent movie” is a vagrant Charlie, whose image was created by the genius of world cinema – Charles Chaplin. This director shot his films in the most difficult moments of history: during the First World War, the Great Depression and World War II. And Chaplin created not just films, but real masterpieces. So, during the Great Depression, one of the best films of this director called “City Lights” appeared.
This beautiful story tells the story of a kind and merciful vagrant Charlie, who, after meeting a charming blind flower seller, helps her restore her sight. In my opinion, the plot is quite good, but even better is the embodiment of it in the movie that Chaplin created. After all, the genius worked great as a director, composer, and, of course, as an actor.
The film is not in vain ranked first among the top ten romantic comedies according to the American Film Institute. This is a really excellent picture, in which first of all I want to highlight a great script, because it was he who gave this beautiful story about a tramp and a flower girl.

One of the most famous paintings of the unsurpassed Charlie Chaplin tells a dynamic and at the same time touching story about friendship and love.
A tramp (Charlie Chaplin) falls in love with a blind girl who sells flowers on the endless streets of the big city. The girl visualizes in her imagination that her mysterious and invisible admirer is a rich man who will soon help her gain a clear gaze.
The tramp would not have been able to carry out his plans without the help of a newly-minted rich friend, whom he has repeatedly saved from committing suicide. However, the rich man has a significant drawback: he forgets his faithful mustachioed comrade as soon as he sobers up from the intoxicating spirit, each time rudely getting rid of the innocent.
The desire to help the girl gain sight leads the main character to places not so friendly.
The kind, sincere and bright picture of the recognized master of cinema captures the heart of the viewer once and for all, making it clear that "not all the gold that shines" and that "in this world, what makes us rich is not what we receive, but what we give."
Without a millionaire to play the role of a gentleman was difficult, but he tried his best.
The closer I get to number one in the Top 250, the more reviews get red. But logically it should be the opposite. But in the case of this film, the situation is clear. Another work in the cinema of Charles Spencer Chaplin, and another adventure of the Little Tramp.
What do we get this time? “Big City Lights” is one of Chaplin’s most famous and popular projects. And some moments from the film, such as a boxing match, became cult for cinema. What did I see in this movie?
Naturally, Charlie Chaplin continues from film to film to excite the image of the Little Tramp. And this picture is no exception. Even by the standards of a century ago, the viewer should already get tired of the monotony of actions taking place on the screen. The image does not develop, giving out the same actions over and over again. Whether it's slipping, bumping, or falling into the water.
And of course I have to say the humorous part. As usual, it all comes down to Chaplin's curves. Of course, people didn’t need much at the time. Banana peel, funny facial expressions - that's all you need for fun. A century later, it looks primitive and doesn’t even make you smile. Except for young children who are amused by everything.
However, there is a serious difference between this film and the typical works in the cinema of Charlie Chaplin. Here he plays drama (as much as possible). If not for all the above, the film could be a really good melodrama. The plot is quite touching and cute. But unfortunately, for me, the minuses blocked all the good that is in this movie.
Bad.

I don’t even know what to write, I just don’t have words.
I watched this movie out of scientific curiosity. I thought it was just a comedy. And, you know, at first my opinion was only confirmed. "What a cliche! What kind of clown? he said in my head. And only at the end of the film I realized that the clown in this film is a very slender essence, which the master gave ideal forms, very harmoniously fit into the framework of this picture.
I’m 19 years old and I’ve seen a lot of movies, including comedies. But I genuinely laughed at the clumsiness of "Little Tramp" and sincerely rejoiced when he managed to get out of difficult situations, and I was terribly hurt for him, because of all the injustice that fell on his shoulders.
The film is kind, pure, it absolutely proves that love is strongest, that it is the highest force that can move mountains.
The picture impresses with its simplicity and in its simplicity lies the grandiose skill of the creators who are able to evoke such violent emotions from watching a silent movie (this is my first experience, therefore it was very unusual).
I don't know what to add. The storm of emotions inside me rages and is ready to break out, spreading enthusiasm over the surrounding reality.
I don’t think this movie is about love. More specifically, it is about love... for life and beauty. The restless Tramp appreciates life very much, even if he is destined to see not the best sides of it. Sometimes his fate brings him into high society, but more often he is forced to spend the night on benches (or statues). Everything a happy person needs, he probably has: head, arms and legs, as well as complete freedom of action. True, there is not always enough money for food, but the sneaky and savvy Tramp knows how to get out of the situation.
That's why I think meeting a blind girl shocked him so much. She, such a young and beautiful creature, is not able to enjoy the fullness of colors surrounding her, the views of the city, the faces of passers-by. How terrible is its monotonous existence in total darkness! No matter what the Tramp is, an idle cunning and a rascal, rude and not particularly ceremonious with prosperous and successful people, his heart is able to deeply compassionate the unhappy. He fell half in love with the girl and half in love with her tragedy. He tried to brighten up her life without demanding anything in return, subdued by her courage and the calmness with which she accepted her blindness. And to play the role of the millionaire, for whom she by coincidence took him, was very difficult! But to upset this meek creature and destroy the dream of a “good and beautiful” rich man, the Tramp could not.
This film is the latest of the three I've seen, but I can't judge whether it's better than Gold Rush and Circus. All three paintings are expressiveness itself, brought to the ideal. I see here no less sparkling comic mise-en-scene scenes, sometimes quite extensive, and sometimes reduced to a few frames. But the comic is concentrated in them! You still admire the stereotypical accuracy of the selected types – “gulyaka”, “valet”, “robber”, “singer”, their images created without the help of speech. You still wonder at the ease and ease of the tricks, especially when you think about how much effort it cost the director. But most of all, I like the longest episode, the boxing scene (with dance elements interspersed), because, unlike some other moments where the game takes place for the sake of playing, for the sake of enjoying the game, it is complicated by dramatic overtones: The tramp decided to box in order to get the money the girl needed, although he is terribly afraid of his opponent.
As in Circus, the finale is a poignant transition from comedy to drama. At these moments, Chaplin’s dramatic talent is revealed unusually brightly. How he, tired and angry with the antics of the newspapermen, freezes, accidentally casting a glance at a woman's face! He looks at the girl as if he didn’t believe his eyes. This is an amazing scene!
In the beginning, saying that the Tramp is happy in its own way, I had to make a reservation. The social subtext of Chaplin’s films is very strong, and the gap between the prosperous and the begging strata in them is very pronounced, it cannot be overcome. Yes, the Tramp is his own master, but when need compels him to look for work, then the whole essence of bourgeois relations is revealed: he ceases to belong to himself, obeys every word of the employer. The first mistake - and the employee flies out. Yes, and in freedom, no matter how twisted, every policeman can suspect him of unpleasant misconduct and escort him to the station at the slightest fault. The tramp is a small man, and he is thrown from side to side like a chip. The beauty of the image is that, conscious of his social helplessness, he retains a kind of dignity and does not lose any common sense, optimism, or kindness.
A classic film, which is not just a diamond of world cinema in the genre of comedy, but a true diamond of universal cinema. The film, shot in the difficult times for the American society of the "Great Depression" and representing a whole tandem, created in the combination of all the genius of Charles Chaplin: directing, editing, and script (from part), and musical content, and production, and, of course, the leading role - Charles was responsible for all this, who in this film managed to display the magnitude of his skill unambiguously.
It is definitely clear that today this picture has the title of cult and is an inspiration for many other creators and their films, examples should not even go far, because such features of the romantic comedy shown in “City Lights” were demonstrated by Woody Allen himself in his “Annie Hall”, which not so long ago was recognized by the writers’ guild as having the funniest script. That is, the influence of Chaplin’s brainchild is great, and this cannot be denied, given that this influence will be displayed more than once and not twice in the future.
But what is particularly attractive about this picture? This question is interesting primarily because the film itself has such a positive feature of cinema as versatility: here the viewer is not only a love story, no. Here we see the history of the rebirth of man, and the history of self-sacrifice for a good purpose, and the history of unjust and even cruel lust, and notes of anti-advertising such vices as drunkenness and more. All this variety is served in the style of silent, but such an attractive and funny play that it is impossible not to look at these seemingly serious and even tragic things without a smile. Elevating the narrative on the pillars of situational humor, at the same time masterfully encouraging it with sound content, which also aims to cheer and laugh, more than successfully composing silent, written dialogues with ridiculous events, why, we can say, Chaplin even used to some extent colloquial humor, Charles created a picture that after many, many years does not lose its charm and attractiveness.
Here we can also see the standard scheme for the construction of funny moments, shown by Buster Keaton, and at the same time observe the development of the genre, whose growth was accelerated by Chaplin, who put forward for general judgment exactly the sound filling humorous content, and I am not talking only about music - no. I’m talking about the sounds that the characters of the film themselves make, which, at the same time, still remains mute.
If anyone else is not familiar with this classic film - urgently correct. I can only conclude that I saw a beautiful, metaphorical picture of love. Love is beautiful, free and pure. A story whose ending remains open, and the meaning is a sentimental layer of many topics, the development for dialogue on which is given by this film, which makes you think, makes you think, otherwise start to look at the world around and even at life, trying to reveal for yourself what happiness is. A beautiful film, where tragedy is competently woven with humor and a joyful attitude, why a warm, warm and pleasant feeling somewhere inside the viewer will remain with him for a long time. At least that's what I did.
There are hardly any people who haven’t heard of Charlie Chaplin. Someone will say, “Comic from a silent movie,” and someone will say, “Chaplin is a genius.” I am more inclined to the second.
A tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who thinks he is rich. A tramp learns that an operation at an eye clinic in Vienna can restore the girl’s vision and goes in search of money. The story is very touching, interesting and funny. This movie has a great script. Everyone should see this story.
I love watching the boxing scene. One of the best and funniest scenes I’ve seen in a movie.
The actors played great. You trust them all and empathize with them. But, of course, the main star of the film is Charlie Chaplin. He performed many duties: director, screenwriter, actor, composer, producer, editor. I cannot help but admire him.
This is a silent movie that says a lot. One of the best romantic comedies. Chaplin shot a masterpiece.
Beautiful, kind, funny movie. Cinema for centuries, and here we can say boldly, because almost a century has passed, and the film has not lost its relevance, but only became better, as wine becomes better with time. I wonder what films from modern cinema will review our ancestors, no doubt there will be, but I was distracted.
The plot tells about the fate of a tramp (of course played by Chaplin), who falls in love with a blind flower girl. On the same day, he meets a millionaire, with whom they get drunk, but by morning the sobering millionaire does not remember him and kicks him out. And a tramp in love, who again met a flower girl, is trying to get money to help her pay for the apartment.
This silent movie without words makes the viewer laugh and empathize. The comedy and drama in the film are brought to such a cut that the words would only be superfluous.
What attracts more attention of the picture is Chaplin, who is the lead actor, director, screenwriter, producer, composer and editor of this film. A genius whose talent cannot but be admired. And from the fact that on the shoulders of one person almost hung the whole film only wins. It shows the author’s handwriting, and this handwriting is sincere and lively.
A picture after viewing which you get real pleasure. Cinema, easily past the obstacle of time confidently stood on the shelf of the classics of cinema and dust off it until you have to and will not have for a long time. That's why I recommend her to everyone. Look, gentlemen, this is Chaplin!

The film “Big City Lights”, the genius creator of cinema Charles Chaplin, was released in 1931. It was a classic comedy film by Charles Chaplin. The film is silent, although it was shot at the end of the silent era, accompanied by music and sound effects. The picture takes first place in the list among the 10 best romantic comedies according to the American Film Institute. The creation of this brilliant work of cinema Chaplin was inspired by a story that actually happened in life about a blind clown who worked in the circus, who had a daughter who suffered from neurosis. According to various accounts, the scene of dating Charlie and a blind girl was filmed for several months. Work on this scene began at the beginning of the filming period, and ended in September 1930. The little man is Tramp Chaplin. The theme of the little man appeared in almost all of Charles Chaplin’s films. In almost all of his films, he is a small tramp without a certain social status, not belonging to either the middle or the upper strata of society.
The Little Man Theme and the 1931 film The Big City Lights. The lights of the big city, you can first consider the title of the movie. A small man, small people and a big city. They are the lights of this great city.
The first scene makes the audience laugh and was conceived as a comedy episode in the beginning to positively tune the audience, but looking further and deeper, we can see that all this is enough, it is not funny. What distinguishes this little tramp from the rest of the people? The fact that he does not have unnecessary well-designed pieces of paper? The fact that he can't afford to go to the usual diner and eat something? Because he's not as mean and mean to society as the rest of the city? The list of these questions can go on indefinitely, but the conclusion is focused on one thing, that all this and in particular the first episode of the picture is far from funny.
Further to our vision, the next stage and one of the most famous scenes are presented not only in the film “City Lights”, but also in the whole world cinema. This is the scene where the two fires of the big city meet for the first time. A little tramp, coming closer to the girl notices that she is blind and can not see this beautiful and painfully cruel world. The little tramp gives her all his change for one flower. And then, of course, the theme of generosity, lyricism, good-natured little man, because he could give a flower to his stomach. But despite everything, Chaplin did not dramatize this famous scene completely, and so, he includes an episode of the return of a little tramp to the place of a blind girl, where she pours water on him, rinsing a bucket.
You can talk about this historical film for cinema endlessly, touching each frame.

This is Charlie Chaplin’s most successful and brilliant film, despite the fact that it was shot during the rapid development of sound cinema. The comedian made no mistake, again choosing the path of silent pantomime.
The film was made during the Great Depression. By that time, sound cinema existed for several years, so Chaplin had the opportunity to write music for his films.
The film ' City Lights' - the greatest of many works of different times, if not the best. This is a vivid example of the Higher Art of Pantomime, it is recognized as a world classic of silent cinema and is worth seeing for everyone. This is the result of efforts, efforts, searches, improvement of their work and a deep desire to know the meaning of love and life.
This is the result of a huge mental labor of the actor himself, his way from primitive play to the very top of the acting performance.
There is nothing superfluous in the film, not a second of lost time, it is like beautiful music, which gently pours and opens up more and more new shades of feelings. The picture is like a flower that reveals the petals, gradually exposing its middle, the very essence, the meaning of everything that Chaplin wanted to put into the film.
This is the pinnacle of the comedian’s career, his character – Tramp Charlie is already an adult gentleman who has seen a lot in life and in the film he will have to go through a lot. The character, dreams and aspirations of the character reflect the state of the actor himself, his maturity, wisdom, accumulated experience and highly developed ability to feel the real, beautiful, deep.
The plot of the film, its atmosphere of charm, romance does not let the viewer go until the very end and after it. The tramp is doomed in his love from the very beginning, he is exhilaratingly tender with a blind girl and in his eyes shines purity, such as the viewer has never seen on the screen before.
The experience of the Tramp, his suffering, sadness, his timid hope for the reciprocity of the girl, this silent silent plea in his eyes, mixed with deep love, compresses the heart of everyone.
The picture is comparable to the light flight of a bird - a deep, sad story that tells about what every soul in this world experiences. This is the miracle that every person reaches for, but
He doesn’t see it very close, and it goes unnoticed. This is the moment when love is born with the doom and understanding of its eternal loneliness, then the most beautiful thing that can be in the world appears. This is the magic of true, true love, devoid of selfishness, which can only be felt. . .
My favorite movie that I’m willing to watch endlessly. .
When you get sober, you're a different person. (C)
And it really is a masterpiece. It looks easy, the lack of spoken language is almost not felt.
A street tramp falls in love with a blind flower seller. The rich man leaves his wife and he goes into all seriousness. When he's sober, he forgets everything. But the evening comes and it is back in the wood. If it were not for the best friend of the tramp, they would eat the powerful fish on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
Charlie Chaplin once said, “To make a comedy, all I need is a park, a policeman, and a pretty girl.” Simple and tasteful. It reminds me of a saying: a woman should have four beasts - a tiger in bed, a jaguar in a garage, a sable on her shoulders and a ram who will pay for it all. Here, the statement of the great Chaplin lacks the dossier about this sheep. He was in the City of Lights! If it wasn't for his money, his car and his hospitality, it wouldn't have worked! So the film is about being an absent-minded slacker, going for dung for horses to collect to earn on a plate of soup, but it is enough to find a rich patron to realize all your dreams. And this friendship can end very badly.
There is a lot of love, beauty and kindness in the film. But I saw a man so deviant in his behavior that he did not even notice the torn underpants sticking out of his sloping trousers. I could only think of the stench that came from him. Apparently, the flower girl was not only blind, but also with anosmia. I saw a rich man drowning in luxury and getting drunk like a pig. In general, I thought about the extinction of these heroes, seeking to kill themselves as soon as possible - whether by dirt, disease, alcohol, smoking. And it is good that despite all their vices, these two helped the blind girl to regain health and start working. We've made a comeback.
You can throw stones at me or minus this review, but I will tell you honestly, before I got acquainted with the City Lights, I have not seen a single movie with Charlie Chaplin. Something like that. To my shame and shame, I haven’t really seen a movie with him. I used to think I loved movies and knew something about them. It turned out not to be. After this film, I should completely reconsider my opinion and vision of cinema.
“The lights of the big city” had a dizzying effect on me. Film-Rupture. He just tore everything up. Anyone who has a sincere love for films, but has not once encountered a silent movie or recently met with it will understand. To make it clearer, I'll explain. We have a silent film that turned 84 this year! A movie where you won’t hear a single sentence. There is absolutely nothing that we are so used to seeing in modern films. But there is something that modern films have lost. This black-and-white silent film, as old as the world, evoked so many emotions that in a long time I did not feel from watching a movie. I never thought a movie like this would make me feel that way. There is a whole spectrum in this film. Here you shame and pride, laughter and sadness, joy and sadness, in general, everything you can do in one bottle. And what is most interesting, all this perfectly coexists together and does not interfere with each other, but only complements.
The film is so sincere and honest that even for a minute, you think, come on, it can’t be. It just feels like modern movies made for money. A simple story that melted millions of hearts and was heard even after 84 years! There's such magic in it! The magic of that time, that era. Let no one say it here, let it... even more, it is not necessary here, as well as any modern lotions. All you need is sincerity and a true story that people and everyone will feel. The film will live forever.
Something's starting to hit me. It’s just so much after watching and it’s very hard to explain constructively. Well, I didn't expect this from a silent film, and even more, I used to consciously avoid them. What many people probably do, knowing that you can watch The Avengers instead. I used to be just as young and stupid, but I promise to get better.
I certainly knew about Charlie Chaplin for a long time, although I have not seen any of his films. Of course, I heard a lot of flattering words about him and only now I realized the truth and validity of these words. I fully support and share them. Genius, there's more to say. I liked Virginia Cherrill in the image of the blind lover of our charming little tramp. But more surprising was Harry Myers. Each new appearance of his drunken insole simply cannot but cause a smile! He did a great job in his role.
In general, "The Lights of the Big City" can rightfully be considered a masterpiece, a classic of world cinema. This is an amazing film that seems to show nothing, showed everything!

The city abhors poverty. And also the selfless naivety that this man is filled with. The tramp is so naive that it allows you to behave elegantly even being an unemployed wanderer in leaky pants, tells a fairy tale about his wealth to a blind flower girl (and even tries to match it!), assures a desperate suicide to know the joys of life, and yet - endlessly, constantly falls into hilarious, absurd situations. After all, Charlie Chaplin’s whole comic is built not only on jumps and falls (they are not Keystone cops), but also on the fact that he sees the situation quite differently than it really is, and takes it with all seriousness and elegant rigor. This naivety is ridiculous and touching in its own way, but it also turns into hopelessness and drama: after all, only a naive idealist will believe in the kindness of a sobered person, unconditionally listen to an unclean guy who offered him to participate in a boxing match, and disinterestedly give all his money to a needy lover who does not even know who he is. This kindness attracts the audience, making them laugh at the immediate eccentricity of the naive vagabond and weep over his troubles, which he – well, fool! – fully does not realize.
Everyone always needs such a “fool”. Direct, kind and at the same time naive, helping their sincere faith to hope for the best. After all, kindness, especially not demanding anything in return, is always cool, and that is why it is especially bitter to see how Tramp, this man of absolute kindness, remains out of business, beggar, slandered, bullied by mischievous boys and with a miserable flower from the trash. (after all, no one believes that his relationship with the Blind Girl is possible? no one, right? . . ) .
It is, of course, sad, incredibly sad. But that's what makes the world a little better, through suffering, idealism, or whatever.
In fact, there is nothing so colossal and unusual about this film. But Chaplin is most remembered for all of his work. Why? As C.C.-master is known to merge together tragedy and comedy, drama and farce. And in this picture, as in all, he does it flawlessly, all the small details of the film matter, all the characters are important. And slamming the door of the car, so that she (flower girl) was not disappointed in his monetary condition, Chaplin invented for a long time, because in the film, the girl was blind.
It was at this point that the era of silent cinema ended its existence and therefore, C. took great risks, but still included sound effects and music in his film. In his autobiography, he describes in detail the experiences of his and his colleagues on this issue.
There are not a few comedic moments in the film, such as the ring and how a tramp with a cart waits for elephants to pass, and then turns and goes back.
The end touches to the depths of his soul, he shakes with his sincerity and kindness. Even a stranger can help.
“The Lights of the City” is a very moving and funny movie. At some points I laughed out loud. The jokes are completely unused and especially in the film there are no vulgarities that are so common in modern cinema.
In fact, all these words can be applied to other films with Charlie Chaplin. They are all similar, but they are all completely different. Paradox, yes.
I’m a modern teenager and I honestly don’t like old movies, but Charlie Chaplin is my favorite movie. Charlie was my childhood idol! I remember when I was about 6 years old and I was with my grandfather and we could watch this amazing silent movie for hours. It is clear to everyone: any age and any people.
There is no deep meaning in these films that you have to think about for hours and after watching it, you still go loaded all day.
This is one of the easiest movies! As easy as "activation": Films can be taken at any time of the day, especially recommended for those who are depressed, heavily loaded and tired of everyday bustle.
Charlie Chaplin movies are movies that just uplift. But if you don’t like old movies, watch a movie with Charlie Chaplin’s great-grandson, Mr. Bean. It is also very funny, but in my opinion, it does not have this piece of “something native”, as in the films with Chaplin.
In general, if you have at least a little free time, then spend it on a good and good movie. Another plus of the movie with Charlie Chaplin is that it does not take much time (the average duration of one movie is 80 minutes).

Very good movie! For the first time I watched a film with Charles Chaplin, and in general a silent movie, a lot of impressions!
This is a very romantic film, a dramatic story and of course a comedy line is present.
Firstly, the film catches the plot. Everything is thought out, interesting and brilliant and at the same time completely uncomplicated. A tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers on the street, he decides to help her and find money to restore her vision. By coincidence, he is drawn into a completely different life for him, which gives him the opportunity to help.
The boundless kindness and spiritual impulses of the main character do not leave indifference! He sometimes causes joyful laughter, sometimes a smile of admiration, you can fall in love with him. After all, he is very kind, brave and capable of acting for the sake of his beloved. I admire acting! That kind of sincere emotion is Charlie Chaplin's tremendous talent, and it's multifaceted.
A blind girl, as if from another planet. Despite the hardships of life, she smiles and enjoys what she has. She looks good with flowers in her hands!
It was wonderful when they first met. Like two invisible people in a busy city, they found each other. Their feelings are beautiful. He will do anything to save her even from sadness.
Further, the Tramp is waiting for adventures: new friends, disappointments, work, holidays, everything as usual in the big city, and all for the sake of the beloved!
The film has an incredible atmosphere, accompanied by pleasant melodies. From all the emotions of the characters is breathtaking and completely succumb to emotions, and after the touching final scene, I realized that for the first time in the movie such Bright feelings are shown.
This is one of the best movies for me!
