The film shows the relationship between villagers and city dwellers. Comedy is more about that. I think it is difficult to notice our viewer, because abroad the standard of living is higher and, it seems, the family belongs to the elite of society. From the first footage of the arrival of the main characters, the director points this out. Then the heel sticks into the wet rubble, then the family runs away from the window at the first sniper. Then begins the fashionable at the time propaganda of gays, it ends with a scene at the table, where even justify the need to educate gay boys in most families. The drama of the film with the exchange of partners awkwardly falls on the cliche of the Christmas genre, and incurable diseases have long been a classic of inexpensive print publications.
The film is comedic, if you understand that the rural in the States are treated about the same as we do. It’s a Christmas movie if you hear the music. The film is worthwhile if it is not perceived as a Christmas comedy, but as reflecting and showing the life and culture of Americans in those years.

I watched the film twice, the first a few years ago, and recently decided to revisit it.
I liked the first viewing, the film seemed easy and funny to me, I did not delve much into the essence of my mother’s illness.
But after watching it a second time, I felt very different emotions, because in my family there was a similar tragedy. And when you've experienced it all, you realize how amazing Diane Keaton was! A mother who loves all children, who wishes them only the good and happiness and wants to be calm that they will all be happy when she is gone.
I recommend this movie, but don’t wait for the Christmas miracle. A film about family and love. Yes, as always in such films banal and predictable, but all this is compensated by the quality of the movie itself, the excellent performance of good actors and the ending, which, personally, seemed the most logical.
They all seem selfish. They only think about themselves. They do not care what others want. Even the slightest effort is not made. Even for a loved one, a son, a brother. They're all sharp on the tongue. What a family. And if you need to like it... You're the future daughter-in-law! It seems everything went wrong at once. And you feel it. Maybe it makes you feel more embarrassed than you normally do. In their eyes read “they do not fit together” and “what he found in her”. This is what the main character of the film “Hello to the family” thought. Yes, many women went through this during the first meeting with their future relatives. But what if everything is not exactly as we think? Is it necessary to establish contact with a person if he did not immediately appear? Or everything as it should be... You just have to listen. It turns out that in this family everyone feels and understands each other without words. This is probably how it should be in any loving family. Really close people are always on the same wavelength. We just need to find our man. And when you find it, you will feel it.

For some reason, I undertook to watch this film, after watching it, it was only necessary to shrug my shoulders and forget like a bad dream. But I want to warn those who want to see this movie after me. Be prepared for the fact that all the characters will annoy you. A mother prejudiced in advance against a potential daughter-in-law; a daughter-in-law herself, who is unable to defend her opinion and her right to it; a groom who suddenly falls in love with his bride's sister; a sister of the bride, the groom's brothers and his sister, who for some reason do not support the bride, but only in every possible way interfere with her, ridicule, rude and out of their skin, trying to show how much they are better than the bride. The father of the groom, who is not at all known for what they were introduced to the characters, because he does not have a single worthy replica ... It's a kunstkamera, not a movie.
I even find it difficult to define the genre of this film. Comedy? It's not funny. Melodrama? So all these attempts to pass off the promiscuity of the morals of the family as a beautiful love story look ridiculous. Drama? There is no life lesson to learn from this picture.
All in all, a ridiculously lost evening. Do you want to throw out an hour or more? Then watch this movie. And my assessment.

After the cult Hollywood classics "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street," the American film industry, pushed by the need to maintain seasonality, regularly gives us Christmas-themed films. And if we usually talk about entertainment stories, there are tragicomic and dramatic exceptions to the rule. This is the rare category of “Hello to the family.” In such cases, Christmas holidays are only an unimportant background. With the same success, the history of the Stone family could be taken out of the context of the winter environment and even specifically home comfort.
The first scenes are driven into a stupor at all - you wonder for a few minutes who of the characters in the frame really has a hearing defect, and who of his relatives shows sympathy. Are all these young people related to each other, or have they been adopted? Screenwriters are trying to involve the viewer in the perennial vicissitudes of the family, which, unfortunately, does not work at all. Such a format would be suitable, whether we are talking about a part of a series of films or a melodramatic series, but new characters simply do not have time to arouse interest and empathy. Moreover, after a few days after watching, most of the scenes associated with those same characters disappear from memory.
The established order of the Stone family turns out to be disrupted for the viewer thanks to the female character of Sarah Jessica Parker. The constricted eldest son causes a mixed reaction of relatives, even the mother. They try to entertain us with the curiousity of the situation, which does not work out. The only thing that works more or less is drama. At the same time, as I have already noted, complete indifference to participants is rather perplexing. Among the rather abundant cast, after an hour and a half, I want to note except that Diane Keaton, in the image of a non-trivial mother.

Movies about tolerance (the concept of tolerance is different for everyone). It was number one. Hey, family! The film about tolerance for homosexuals turned out to be quite a bit for African Americans. The acting is good, and Sarah J. Parker didn't play well. I cried with her, not because she was talking about a wounded ego, but because it was being shown to us, and not only to us, and it was being presented as normal, and that people of other beliefs in America could not express and express their beliefs openly and boldly, fearing the law now passed in all states, although 13 of the states signed the acceptance paper by force. In the film, a mother tells her son that he is smarter than many stupid people gathered at the table, thereby comforting his ego. All mothers will always do that - protecting their children is normal. But to comfort the ego of your children is to do them a disservice. Now I will write something that many will lash out at, because it is different from the beliefs that have been so stubbornly implanted in us and the whole world and continue to implant, and I will write anyway, otherwise my conscience will be unclean.
In the scriptures and in the Bible (everything is tested for centuries) it is said: ' Without vision, the people perish.' So, without vision, in ignorance, the people will slowly (and perhaps quickly) perish. And the vision is this, and there are answers (specifically to what is so sweetly propagated): ' Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither prostitutes, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor Malachi, nor husband-makers, nor thieves, nor dashing men, nor drunkards, nor evil-speeched men, nor predators, inherit the kingdom of God.[39] (1 St. Paul 6:9-7:10)
So hello to the family in this film is to completely overthrow the holy scriptures, and the word of the one who has redeemed all sins for us already in advance so that we can continue to live and rule over the Earth, develop and return to the Kingdom of Heaven. Hello in introducing into the family, in the last instance, to which the dark hands could not reach, soddom and gomorrah. The film briefly mentions the nature of the phenomenon of homosexuality, a reference to genetic predisposition. In fact, the explanation is much deeper, and more interesting, why this phenomenon becomes clear, but still does not give a green light to it. . .
But people, regardless of their color and religion, should be treated with tolerance and understanding. And to the husbandmakers as well as to all who break the Law, because in fact the root of all this is ignorance (which comes from rebellion, once allowed). Such souls do not develop in faith. This will lead to a loss of faith in everything.
Although my review is one-sided and mainly about the meaning, and not pro ' great ' directing and acting, but the motive has always been more important, content than framing. I think a lot of people will agree.
Everyone chases the mood, not knowing how to fill the void in which it is scary. People, choose carefully how to fill it. Stay out of fashion. Expand your horizons. . .
To watch or not to watch let everyone choose for himself, as well as to take everything at face value or not. We're given free choice. Our choice is our cosmic responsibility, primarily to ourselves. . .
Like many people, after reading the review and description of the film, I expected to see a light comedy, watching which will brighten the evening almost with the background on the computer. But she was wrong. I will not repeat the plot of the film. I'll just tell you how I feel. Easy, ironic, sometimes on the verge of foul the beginning of the film, closer to the middle flows into a serious melodrama that makes you think about the essence of the family, love and understanding.
All the actors played great. This is the first and only role where I’m excited about Sarah-Jessica Parker. What pleased me was the lack of overly dramatic dialogue about the meaning of life and death. Most of the emotions were played out, and I notice perfectly played, silently, with only eyes, which gave more importance to the film.
I doubt anyone will watch this movie a second time, but the time spent watching it will not be wasted.
' With this film, I, like the main character with the family of her fiancé, somehow did not get along from the very beginning. I could not understand why all these people behaved so strangely, if in a thoroughly tolerant America they do not teach polite communication. The thing is, I wasn't looking closely. It turns out that you had to catch the right mood to watch and take a closer look. And the motives of the heroes become clearer.
The family met the bride of the eldest son in bayonets? How would you treat a strange woman who appointed your son as her fiancé? People close to you always know from the outside whether this person is suitable for you or not. And they care when they see that you are not bound by love, but only mutual assistance, friendship, affection. Why does Everett Stone want to marry Meredith? Because: it’s time, so it is customary, she is suitable as a partner, and true love does not happen. What did he find in her? She is just as responsible and businesslike, also living by reason, not feelings. He also wears a mask of a successful person, closed to outsiders. An illustrative episode when the two of them freeze in front of the mirror – outwardly a perfect couple!
When Everett meets Meredith's sister Julie, it's as if he wakes up realizing there's love after all. And Meredith, always so tight as to spread her wings, with Everett's brother Ben. After all, now you do not need to be perfect next to the “perfect Everett”, you can become yourself and stop pretending to be who you are not, but only want to look like.
Sarah Jessica Parker perfectly showed how psychologically difficult it is for a closed person-case is in the center of a huge united family against you, in which it is customary to say what you think and behave as you want. She does not give up, tries to find contact with all the means known to her, and all in vain. Another in her place would have run away long ago, and she keeps trying. Someone her character irritated, someone caused sympathy, but left no one indifferent.
Those who expect a comedy in the style of “Meeting Parents” from this film will be severely disappointed. Apart from the link, these two films have absolutely nothing to do with each other. It's not a drama, it won't work either. This is a melodrama, a tragicomedy, in general, everything is like in life, where the funny and sad are mixed into an interesting cocktail.
The film caught on TV when it saw Sarah Jessica Parker, Dermont Mulroney and Rachel McAdams and other famous actors. I decided that even if the picture is not the highest grossing and rated, it is worth watching it because of the cast, just out of curiosity. It just can't be bad at all.
The plot is quite simple: family, acquaintance with the family of the groom, family problems of various nature. Especially if you imagine how many problems can have a family in which five (or more) adult children, as well as grandchildren, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, etc.
In such a family you will not be bored, so the film can be safely attributed to the category of entertaining melodrama. The film can not be called a killer comedy, but it can not be called a melodrama that torments the soul. This is one of those films that do not become Oscar nominees, but become favorite movies for home viewing when you just want something easy and unobtrusive.
The fact that he does not have high ratings is not a reason to bypass him. It was a pleasure to spend time in the company of this large and cozy family. Especially on the New Year holidays. Someone during the viewing will even come up with the thought: “And not to have the same huge and “populous” family to guarantee yourself the richest life for the rest of your days.”
Sarah J. Parker's acting... Not that she played badly. Rather, both she and we understand that, no matter how she plays, the audience will see her as Carey, somehow playing another girl in another film.
The truth is that many viewers, although they understand that Sarah J. Parker is just an actress, almost identify Sarah with her world-famous heroine Carey. Therefore, any attempts not to be Carey and move away from this image lead to “psychological trauma” in the audience, and the actress herself.
I suspect (judging by the stories of other actors) that Sarah’s new roles are likely to cause difficulties: how to play a new role, so as not to be in it like Carey. It's not easy. It's like taking away the Cary Bradshaw we've been used to for so many years. And she knows that. And we’re hoping for a sequel to Sex and the City, even if the producers said there’s no plan to release sequels with the old characters. As Sex fans, we don’t lose hope. I couldn’t help but make this retreat, taking the opportunity.
In general, the film is worth watching because of a bunch of famous actors, because of the rich plot. Although the writers of the film did not invent the bicycle and the plot is quite predictable, this is not always the main thing. Yes, the ending isn’t shocking (no one expected it), and the plot twists aren’t from David Lynch’s thriller. The most important thing is that you enjoy watching.
Hello to the Family is an American melodrama with elements of drama and comedy that I love and have watched several times. The film turned out to be funny, deep, and lifelike, and I like it with its pleasant, homely atmosphere and funny, interesting family history, which always remains in the circle of the family and it is not taken to public view. The cast in this melodrama was wonderful, so the movie turned out to be such a wonderful and bright winter gift.
We see a big friendly family, and when the beloved son brings a girl to the house and tells everyone that she is his bride, who no one liked, the family members express their discontent, and we see a funny family story in a large cozy house against the background of winter and white, beautiful snow.
Sarah Jessica Parker is a wonderful and bright American actress, and in this film she played great, and her role was perhaps the most difficult. The heroine of the series “Sex and the City” I really like, and I always enjoy watching movies with her participation. Diane Keaton is one of my favorite actresses, and in this melodrama she was as beautiful as ever. I love her kind eyes and smile and I think Diane Keaton is one of the best actresses in American cinema. Claire Danes is a sweet and sensual actress, and I like her, because she has some of her highlights, which makes her such a pleasant actress. Rachel McAdams is a charming and beautiful girl and I didn’t know her before this melodrama, but after the film I remember her well, and then I always enjoyed watching her films. Dermot Mulroney is a good actor with a pleasant masculine appearance, and he has played in many decent and good films, and in this melodrama I liked him and played him well.
I love when Americans make family movies, they always have a nice atmosphere and a funny story, and this movie is one of my favorite movies of 2005. Hello to the family! is a movie that is imbued with love and life of one kind and interesting family, and their story is full of irony and a lot of funny things. I love this melodrama and believe that it undoubtedly deserves the attention of the audience and positive feedback. Watch "Hello to the Family!" and penetrate into the life of one American family, to whom we see happiness, sorrow, and its secrets and various ridiculous and funny situations.
This is not a drama or a comedy, but a quality family melodrama. Very naturally shows the life of one family with its problems, joys, victories and losses.
But the family is strong enough. Perhaps because of a mother who accepted her children as they were. I thought that was the main idea of the film. But to tasty present, you need to wrap in a few wrappers: the wrong daughter-in-law, different love lines, the chaoticness of family meetings ...
I didn’t think Sarah Jessica Parker was the right person to play Meredith. She looks older than the right age. At the same time, the actress showed us the timidity and stiffness of a 17-year-old girl, not a business woman in the age of “for...” In general, she was the only one who looked organically in this film.
Diane Keaton pulls out any movie. Crazy mom's got it right! Only facial expressions of this actress can show love, sadness, pain.
I liked the movie. It's like Meredith's presents: at first glance, it's standard, but when you take off a couple of wrappers, you'll see a warm heart. I'll definitely review it for Christmas.
What can I say... When I started watching this movie, my only goal was to relax, laugh and have the most fun without thinking about anything. It didn't work.
I can’t deny that I laughed at many scenes. In general, this film is good to watch on the eve of the New Year to raise the Christmas mood. It's not fabulous, it's just light and real. But why couldn’t we relax completely? Because this film can be called a comedy, through tears, tears, not from laughter, but from the fact that it was the last Christmas for one of the heroines, who throughout the film never gave the appearance, as well as all joked and had fun.
Well, you can not argue here with the fact that this film is similar to other Christmas comedies of this type.
And yet, if you want an easy, kind movie with humor that does not look like American Pie, then you should definitely come here.

I watched the film back in 2005. Revisited a very interesting film from a psychological point of view.
What can I say, Everett's beloved son is just a weak-willed mama's son. His father's a heeled man, too. Everything in the house is run by a mother. A woman who thinks she's smarter than everyone else is selfish, suppressing her children. Not surprisingly, all of her children have problems in their personal lives.
The only normal characters are Meredith and Everett’s brother Ben. And those, unfortunately, inadequate family, in my opinion, will not leave alone. They're like energy vampires.
How happy they were to have this poor Meredith. The girl is strong-willed, who was able to make a career and behaved with the relatives of the groom even too nice. Let it be formal, but who are they to her, at the first meeting to open their soul, hug, kiss. Among all the mean losers, she is the most honest.
There was a predictable conflict during the family dinner. Meredith had a defensive reaction. Undeserved hatred will not please anyone.
A beautiful film, so much beauty soulful on the screen I have not seen for a long time.
I love melodramas, but this is...
It's laughter through tears! What's this movie about? About the endless love of the Stone family for each other, among which Meredith wanted to be. They are not perfect at all, everyone has their own troubles in life, but the strength of each of the Stones is in the family, which is why they cherish it very much, tender love is not weak hamstrings and jokes.
Sincerely worried about the heroine of Sarah Jessica Parker, she really had a hard time, the saddest thing is that she did everything with the best intentions, Rachel McAdams (favorite actress) perfectly fit into this role, lived it, and the rest of the actors were on top. The storyline of each hero was thought out and finished, the only one, I believe, was very little of his father, his experiences.
The moment of presenting gifts for Christmas and the place where the song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” played - the most beautiful!!
Magic movie. Family is the most precious thing we have!
