A gift of vain, a gift of chance, life, why have you given me? Beautiful crime couple Baby and Stas travel the country in search of luck, the relationship of Russian Bonnie and Clyde is quite complex and full of contradictions, but nevertheless they are together. Starring super-popular Elena Yakovleva and Denis Karasev, whose actor in this film saw for the first time. The actress looked and played well, her name in the credit is always an indicator of quality, but some fatigue from her own popularity affects (in one 90 year she had 4 films), which, however, benefited the image of her heroine Xyusha, a young woman who set foot on a slippery path and already realizes that this is the road to nowhere. Almost debutant Denis Karasev at the beginning seemed to be a weak link overshadowing the star Yakovlev, but in the course of the film his dedication to the role and absolutely natural being in the image was very convincing and strong. And the characters of the film remain largely mysterious. Their past is only outlined in a few phrases, how they - young, healthy and not stupid, came to life. However, one way or another, Stas and Ksyusha decided to change their thief star and she turned away from them. The bitter irony of the authors - the fate of Stas bizarrely mirrors the history of the village grandfather who passed the war, captivity and camps. This is how the heavy burden of the whole country disfigures its children then and now.
Conventionally, the film is divided into three parts: I-Stas and Ksyusha, II-Katya and the last part - Strict. Love, duty and retribution. And only a tear of a child - the beautiful daughter of Ksusha little Katya, can give a tired soul moral purification. Wonderfully found and the girl, and other images, in the episodes appear beautiful Soviet actors Rimma Markov, Anatoly Kuznetsov and others. The image of a young fanatic investigator with a thin neck is a perfect hit.
Of course, the film raised typical themes of the 90s: violence, racketeering, crime, but there is no outright black. As a film, there is no sloppiness that many films of the time sin. It's clear, it's clear. Beautiful and beautiful. Heroes will change not only cars, but also fashionable costumes in the style of sports casual. Good work of the operator and composer, and carefully selected and background music, songs. In a word, Russian Roulette is a strong and sincere film statement that looks good in our digital age. It is a pity that the director of the film Valery Chikov, so little shot in the 90s, soon finally becoming the court director of the popular stand-up comedian Mikhail Evdokimov and finally switched to “rural clays”.
PS: The film has a distinct therapeutic effect. Despite the fact that the main characters are cute and their free lifestyle is even attractive in its own way, but in the end you share the point of view of the authors. The common stereotype that in the 1990s little and all black, it is not so. We shot a lot and a lot. There were many interesting, beautiful and kind paintings. It’s just that they’re barely on TV anymore. But I think their time will come and the movies of the 90s will be rediscovered.
