And you know, I didn't see in De Palma's film adaptation that there was a "carrie." Of course there was something. But all this is not in comparison with what is described in the novel of the same name King. No way. But that's half the trouble.
The starting shots are quite interesting and even cause respect - you look at the scene in the shower with a sense of modernity, not the distant 70s. This, most likely, contributes to slow-motion, which in our time is considered an element of beautiful cinema (remember “The Matrix”, “Especially dangerous” and the most recent example is the new “Dredd”), but simply – a common phenomenon (most films now use slow-motion). And the soundtrack does not seem to limp - it is very in harmony with what is happening on the screen. But this is all that concerns the scene in the shower (except for the events preceding the fall of the bucket). I couldn’t understand what was going on: either it was the horrors that people shuddered in those hairy years, or it was a black comedy. And the further I looked, the more comfortable it became for me to think about the second.
The actors, in my opinion, were far from fully revealed. Many of them could have played much better. Not even Sissy Spacek. Although she was the coolest. The scenes of Carrie’s quarrels with her mother that King described were horrifying, disgusting... but what is there? It's kind of calm here, no, no, I'm not saying it was like they were fighting over a broken plate, but, you know, sometimes that's what I thought. Well, Brian could not convey the horror of these moments. However, I can list a lot of things that I did not like, so I will not, so as not to spoil further, but I will not list mainly because I do not want to.
I don’t like it when writers think about it. It turns out sometimes super, but usually, to put it mildly, not so much. Like here. I don’t know what King thought about it when he was stirred up, changing the characters’ names, but it would kill me. Although, who knows: if it was a film adaptation of my book (for the first time!), maybe it would not stir me...
After watching, the thought crept in: and yet, maybe I don't understand the 70s? There was another movie at the time, all sorts of things could be... why didn't De Palma burn half of Chamberlain like King should have? Maybe he didn't have enough money in 1976. Hell knows. And yet I noted the pluses in the film — believe it or not, and hurt me scene murder Chris Hargensen and Billy Nolan. Well, a little drove into the atmosphere of the film scene panic at the prom. At 0.5 for each.

P.S. I am afraid of the fresh remake of Carrie with Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role. But I still want to see – of course I do! "Carrie" was my first and perhaps most beloved novel by King.
I read Stephen King's "Carrie" and howled admiring the book. But before I read it, I almost happened to watch Brian de Palma’s film adaptation. Yes, it does not observe all the facts from King’s first work; yes, the characters are remade in a new way. And yet, the film is worthy of attention. He is not corrupt enough to be hated. He's just different. Another, but just as strong and courageous in psychological impact on the viewer.
De Palma did not regard the little novel “king of horrors” as unfinished material. For the mid-seventies, he did his best to keep many scenes as they were when he read them. He added very little from himself. The director recreated the book “Carrie” diligently and with love, and the actors, who got used to deep characters, gave everything.
When I saw this movie, I was really shocked. Maybe less than a book. However, it is sufficient to give an estimate.

Try it better than Brian de Palma. Try to surpass the skill of Stephen King. Try to make sure that neither is possible.
It is very easy to understand that the film adaptation is good when you do not pay attention to ' such trifles ' as discrepancies with the plot, and just fascinated by watching the actors play on the screen.
Carrie is a frightened child, drawn to peace, loving his mother no matter what, until the last minute, and a bloody deity, embraced by revenge. Yes, I see it! Spacek is just gorgeous and terrifying. And with what dedication she came to the shooting – and it is not in vain.
An ardent religious fanatic-mother, on whom nothing acts except her own convictions. Which is ready to go to murder because ' so nada'. There is, too. A savage ravine of angry children - get it, sign it. Doubting young maid, sympathetic Carrie - perfect!
The only thing I've got is young Travolta. He's cute, not scary, and he doesn't smell cold. But for the fact that this is Travolta, you can forgive.
I also like the directing work. Especially the final moments in the athletic class (oh those eyes!), the moment Carrie looks in a twitching mirror - it was really creepy. And of course, a silent episode with buckets of pig blood swaying on the rack. And even the same bucket that fell on Carrie's good companion. That's ridiculous, yes. But that, damn it, must be ridiculous!
A powerful, sometimes scary movie, one that doesn’t age. And a good adaptation of a great book.
When the school ball turns into hell
I am a great lover of the horror genre, I love and respect the work of Stephen King on whose works many excellent horror films were shot, and now I would like to talk about the very first adaptation of King’s books – Carrie.
I watched Carrie twice, before and after reading the novel of the same name, and it felt quite different. The first time I watched an unknown story for myself, and then I was able to compare the sensations of the book and the film, and I realized that the film is still inferior to the book, and is not a perfect adaptation of the novel. It seemed to me that the film lacked timekeeping, as some of the actions are too fast and detached, so you could make the film longer and it wouldn’t have been hurt. De Palma also simplified the narrative slightly, shifting the motivations of some characters, namely Chris Hargensen and Billy Ross, making them the main and only goal - to humiliate Carrie, although in the book it looks more like a protest against the whole school, especially on the part of Billy. But for the fact that the tragedy became more local, covering only one school, and not the whole city as in the novel, I would not scold the creators, still the budget was very limited, and a large number of decent special effects money would clearly not be enough, even with those that are, we can unfortunately admit that in technical terms the film is outdated, although given the past years it must be taken for granted. Nevertheless, despite the disadvantages, the film adaptation came out worthy, many scenes are recreated simply magnificently, and the film manages to hook its problems, cause a lot of different emotions, not inferior in this book.
Before we talk about acting, I would like to say a few words about the director. The first Bryan De Palma film I saw was Scarface, and I was just getting into movies, and at first I thought that De Palma specialised in gangster movies, because he also directed Carlito's Way and The Untouchables, and was quite surprised to learn later that De Palma started with horror and thrillers, which he definitely knew a lot about, which he most clearly demonstrated in Carrie, which in my opinion is De Palma's best work in the field of horror.
The acting in the film is very good, as evidenced by two absolutely deserved Oscar nominations. First of all, it is worth noting Sissy Spacek, who was perfect for the role of Carrie both externally, which is facilitated by a specific, but still not ugly appearance, and internally, managing to display pain and despair during bullying, hope during the prom, and inhuman rage after the last joke on her. Piper Laurie played Carrie’s mother and played very powerfully, making her crazy religious fanatic dislike her heart. The rest of the actors, including the young and curly Travolta, were also very good, but nothing more.
"Carrie" is one of Stephen King's best novels and has a very truthful and bitter morality. The world is certainly not without kind people, but in the cruel human nature, compassion and pity have almost no place left, and people like Carrie will always be misunderstood and strangers in our world.
And I was also frightened and struck to the core by the last scene in the film, because even King does not have such a brilliant scene in the movie, I think there are very few such brilliant scenes in the cinema, thanks to her, I always end up watching Carrie with the terrible thought that “the living will envy the dead.”

Carrie is a shy schoolgirl who lives with a very religious mother. She is not allowed to walk with boys, she does not even know what menstruation is, which gives a lot of ground for bullying among her peers. But this year she's graduating, and one boy urged her to go, so she overcame her fear of her mother and agreed. But as it turned out, it successfully fell into another plan of bullying by the main beauty of the class. But everything could have been done if Carrie did not have telekinetic abilities that turned the prom into a bloody ball.
After watching the film, I want to applaud everyone who worked on the film, it turned out perfect. I can't believe it was 1976! This has never happened before, starting with the fact that it is a bloody film about schoolchildren, and ending with splitting the screen into two parts (I have seen this in several modern films, but for the 70s it is unrealistically cool!). Plus, the play of the main character of the film is worth some praise, her crazy look at the end of the film will be remembered for a long time.
The first adaptation of Stephen King on his debut novel of the same name, and immediately such a success, impressive work! Even after almost 50 years, the film looks amazing, you can praise endlessly.
A great horror movie in the best traditions of Stephen King.

Carrie Will Make You Scream, or Best Stephen King Film
“Carrie” is the debut novel of the famous Master of Horrors Stephen King, which brought him both literary fame and the accompanying wealth. The idea of filming the book ripened very quickly and soon the film of the same name was released on the screens, shot then not quite well-known director Brian De Palma. It is in this film that directorial techniques characteristic of De Palma begin to be present, which later became his hallmark. However, for the implementation of such a novel as “Carrie”, an exceptional reading is necessary and Brian De Palma brilliantly succeeded.
The story of the school outcast Carrie, possessing supernatural abilities, De Palma shot as a psychological thriller with elements of mystical horror, focusing on drawing both Carrie herself, brilliantly played by the great Sissy Spacek, and her entourage, especially the fanatical mother Margaret, perfectly played by Piper Laurie. Also brilliantly played their roles and Amy Irving (vile Sue Snell), and Priscilla Pointer, and John Travolta (creepy Billy), and William Catt (weak and crooked Tommy). .
The film is full of magnificent camera and editing finds created by Mario Tosi, and the bright and intense soundtrack of Pino Donagio and Merrit Malloy perfectly approached the artistic structure of the picture.
“Carrie” is a story not only about the struggle of individuality with the collective consciousness and the battle for their “I”, but also about the power of women (in the school described in the book and film, if you look closely, a real matriarchy reigns). I recommend this brilliant horror film to all true fans of the genre, because this tape is impossible to miss.

This film is not a horror where a monster has to jump out of every corner and where the insides of a person will flow down the wall. This film is a tragic story of a girl named Carrie. It would seem that there is nothing special in the plot - a house, a school, mockery, an outcast and a teacher who is constantly trying to "help", but her help, on the contrary, only aggravates the whole situation.
All the horror is represented by how the downtrodden girl, seemingly a kind of angel, in an instant turns into the devil. Of course, the special effects are simple, but do not forget that the film was shot in 1976, and to rely on them, omitting the plot, at least stupid. And the scene with the revived hose and fire, in my opinion, is very realistic and without unnecessary rubbish: well, what else could a girl who had just discovered the ability of telekinesis and was in a room where you want a super-duper Scarecrow with effects?
The last scene, of course, was very impressive. But in my opinion, the most terrible thing is these huge blue eyes against the background of Carrie herself, drenched in blood. It is impossible to forget them! The actress managed to show all the emotionality that is inherent in her heroine.

Who now does not know Stephen King - a famous horror writer who gave the world many cult stories. Also on his masterpieces make films. As a fan, I always try not to miss the film adaptations of his works. And recently I learned that one of his first works “Kerry” was filmed. As a result, I got acquainted with this picture and I must say that Kerry should not be missed by any lover of mysticism and horror. Why is that? Let's figure it out.
The events take place in America in the 80s. An ordinary high school, where life boils. All students are slowly preparing for the prom. Everyone except Kerry. All students and classmates mock her, and at home constantly interferes with the normal life of the mother, who is a devout puritan. Carrey is all freckles, dresses badly, doesn’t take care of herself, doesn’t play volleyball well – everyone calls her “ugly duckling.” But she has one secret: she has telekinesis. But it doesn't show anyone. One day, her classmates treated her cruelly. After this event, they are all punished by the teacher and warned: either they will stay after school as punishment, and if they do not, they will be banned from attending the ball. All the girls agree, except one.
And another classmate, realizing how bad they did, asks her boyfriend to invite Carrey to the ball, so that she would have a little fun and forget about the unpleasant incident. At the same time, another asks her boyfriend to help her get Kerry back to humiliate her again. But they all do not suspect that the prom will be for many the last ...
And how it will end, you will know by watching the movie. In addition to an exciting and interesting story, the atmosphere is also very important. The fact is that the picture can be divided into exactly 2 halves: in the first you are shown the life of Kerry, how bad she is. Watching her, you slowly begin to penetrate her, to worry about her, to some extent even sympathize. And then, after she is invited to the ball, she begins to change - it becomes more fun, more beautiful. At the moment, you will even be happy for her. And then there will be a denouement and only you can find out for yourself whether it is bad or good.
Acting at a height - Sissy Spacek (Kerry) plays her role flawlessly. It's been a long time since I was so worried about the main character. All the other actors played very well. Here you will see a young John Travolta, who played a bad guy. And the whole atmosphere is supported by excellent musical accompaniment, which adjusts to the desired mood. And it's worth noting the ending - it's great. Of course, many people may not understand it, but if you’ve ever read King, you won’t be surprised, as such things are in his repertoire.
Kerry is a living classic of mysticism. Great, if not the best, adaptation of Stephen King. A beautiful film with an exciting and mystical story, great actors and atmosphere. All fans of Stephen King should watch this work and even if you just like scary stories, then watch this movie too - you will definitely be satisfied.
