The Tale of the Girl Robocop Unfortunately, I can not appreciate this film properly, because I saw it only in Japanese with Portuguese subtitles, but already from what I saw I can make some impression.
Kaoru, the Japanese tennis champion, celebrates a sports victory and goes on a yacht cruise with his beloved. During the cruise, they become casual witnesses as the Cartel gang smashes a secret research institute. Kaoru is spotted, raped, brutally abused and stabbed in the back. She, dying, is pulled out by her fiancé. Institute blown up... Six months later, this young man turns out to be a police officer investigating the crimes of the Cartel. The gang is led by a mysterious mafia, his identity has not yet been revealed. And then another force interferes in the activities of the "Cartel" - a "woman superpoliceman", a cyborg in fantastic armor, armed to the teeth. We learn that it is Kaoru who survived and is now taking revenge. Although the film is common tokusatsu-themed (resonates with the television series cycles Metal Hero and Kamen Rider, and shot Lady Battle Cop the same company - Toei), but the overall tone is extremely gloomy and tragic. Superpolicewoman shoots her enemies with packs (so many and the original Robocop did not shoot). The end... I will not say that he is happy, although the main character survived.
Of the drawbacks of the film: the main one is the similarity to Verhoeven’s Robocop.
First, the armor itself. You'll find out. And even a sliding holster on the thigh. And the gun is the same. Although the circle is closed. Rob Bottin, a costume designer, is known to have smacked the design of RoboCop by the Japanese Space Sheriff of Havana (the series Metal Hero), this is how it sometimes happens in life.
Secondly, the Cartel gang itself is like Clarence Boddicker's thugs. Camouflages and dressings on the head are attached.
However, the similar atmosphere of futuristic Tokyo and futuristic Detroit is not even a minus. Here it only enhances the overall tone of the film. The gloom and hopelessness come in contrast after the beginning of the film - a sun-drenched sea, a yacht, a laughing beautiful tennis player ... In the apartment where Kaoru lives (I did not really understand who made her a cyborg and where she received the armor, for this you need to look with translation) near the weapons and warehouse of fantastic lotions placed objects from her past: photos, tennis racket ... The most famous shots are probably where she equips herself, remembering her previous life and last cruise, and then shoots photos of bandits hanging on the wall.
Well, for me personally, the biggest failure in the film is the robot opponent Kaoru. No superhero is complete without an opponent equal to himself, the Americans have ED-209, then Kane. Here it's a robot called Amadeus with 'powerful mental power' -- walls crumbling and metal cracking. It's a good idea, but it's a good performance. It's such a huge jock, screaming in a bad voice, everything around bends and cracks, people grab their heads. No impression.
The main advantage of the film is that it touches. Very touching. I think a lot of people were moved by the story of Alex Murphy: a simple, honest guy, family and child, died, so scary. And when he realized himself as RoboCop, he first remembered revenge. Now imagine a woman in the same situation.
I repeat, the end is unhappy: she survives but loses everyone she loved. And revenge... Revenge will not warm the soul. The mood underlines the soundtrack. And as always in Toey film and television production, he is on top. Powerful music, both lyrical and tragic at the same time. And in the main role such a beautiful actress. She got into the image. Two dissimilar hypostases: a half-avenger, a suffering girl. In the finale of the film, both will be admired more than once. Moreover, unlike Robocop, she has fully preserved her human appearance.
In the United States, this film has long been scolded and reviled. In Brazil, where many fans of current live, he is fondly loved. We don't know at all. I think he deserves to know about it.
The overall impression of the film is positive.
