This is what our hearts demand / Amazon is not stingy / Guardians are out too early...
Guys, in the yard 2k19. The first Avengers came out good 7 years ago, and forever changed the world of cinema. I remember walking out of the cinema after one of the Marvel films - I was absolutely delighted, unlike my father, who clearly found the film fabulous and stupid.
It was time... Superhero movies came out year after year and I grew up with them. What can I say now? Years later, I understood my father’s point of view. Of course, I haven't missed a single Marvel or DC movie. But when you know that the world has sex, drugs, blood and much more, when you watch, inevitably, you get the impression ' fairy tales ' and unrealistic. I think this is because the brain can’t relate what’s happening on the screen of a PG-13 movie to the real world and understands that in real life, the characters would react in a completely different way and the outcomes of the events shown would be completely different. Therefore, now, it has become somewhat difficult for me to associate myself with the characters of such films, and, I must admit, there are no such emotions when watching as there were at one time.
Series 'Boys' is what our hearts demand. The hearts of adult superhero fans who grew up on these films, but by human nature, no longer have such an ardent interest in unnatural happy endings and super moral characters. Watching 'Boys', I get aesthetic and moral satisfaction from the quality of the picture, the acting, the elaboration of the plot. This is what we need right now.
The first thing I noticed was the actors. When I saw that the father of the main character plays ' that man from Star Trek' (Simon Pegg), I was pleasantly surprised. Further, this feeling intensified when Carl Urban appeared on the screen (' that man from Star Trek #2' plus he was still filming in 'Bourne'). To say that the cast is selected qualitatively and accurately - nothing to say. All the actors are in their place, playing very lively and natural. The level corresponds to high-budget pictures.
The second. Speaking of budget. It is not uncommon for a project to be closed before the first season is released due to budget issues, or when the series is in the cinematic universe but is not included in the canon due to its mediocrity and low production level. There are many superhero series (I won’t name names...), which are created to get into the genre and ' suck ' behind major blockbusters. I’ll be honest – I’ve never seen any such work, where the studios allocate a sufficient budget for the cast and picture. Usually somewhere the actors ' not the', somewhere simply, due to financial constraints, the series is 90% filled with dialogue. In my honest opinion, ANY quality superhero series can not do without a sufficient number of high-quality effects and a well-developed picture, which fully corresponds to '. In the first 10 minutes, it becomes clear that Amazon did not save on visuals. The series in sufficient quantity is saturated with action, which is pleasant to watch.
Third. It is also impossible to avoid the analogy with the Guardians. It’s a beautiful, but sadly not paid off movie that features all of the aforementioned aspects. I'm sure Zack Snyder would release his job 10 years later, and the fees and ratings would be different. Ladies and gentlemen, it's 2019 - the kids have grown up, Welcome to the Adult Rankings and Anti-Heroes, during Deadpool and Old Man Logan. This is what is now collecting cash, and the guys from Amazon caught the wave and hit the bull’s eye.
They gave us a series that cemented a new level compared to what was in the genre of yes. 'Boys' showed how juicy and tasty can be a superhero on the small screen. Hopefully, the success and ratings of the Amazon Original Series will untie the hands and open the wallets of studio bosses who will be ashamed to release something less colorful.
Is "Boys" a series about superheroes? Nope. It's better!
A depressive world completely enveloped in superheroes. Superheroes are everywhere. Movies, TV, competitions, merch (some of which you know, don’t you?). Yes, even government missions, and perhaps further involvement in the war? But here such a banal thing for a superhero movie is realized more interestingly, he remotely reminded me of the keepers. Every superhero here is a popular brand. The law is an empty place for them. To judge a superhero for accidentally or not accidentally killing a person? It doesn't benefit anyone. Superheroes in this series are basically ordinary people, and people are not always 'heroes' But there are oppositionists in every regime, right?
It is for such realism and deviation into the political structure of the world that I fell in love with this series!
In this series, there are many stunningly worked out moments that very effectively ridicule the worn clichés of the superhero genre. There are many colorful memorable characters, great humor, beautiful directing and chic soundtracks. In each frame, you feel the love of creating this series. One character can create a thriller and suspense throughout the series just by his presence. Great acting! What else do you need to watch this gorgeous K&N? "" The only non-critical downside for me is the ending. I expected more, but I wasn’t disappointed by the Titans ending. I’m looking forward to the second season, it should be CRAZY!

This is the best implementation of heroes in the film, honestly.
And DC and MARVEL in the movies tried to implement superheroes who would live in the real world and what they were, tried to make everything believable and out of their hands, in my opinion, terrible and boring.
I started watching 'Boys' and thought the same thing about the series, but I was wrong - the first impression is deceptive. It's the best superhero in cinema, it's just genius! And in themselves 'Boys' this is a rather deep and serious work. Who are superheroes? What are they doing? Why do we calmly accept that people in power, like politicians and law enforcement agencies, often slip into corruption and abuse of force, but do not imagine that superpowers would do this? Here all this is clearly outlined: all superheroes are the same people with vices, dependencies and weaknesses who have a headquarters like the Avengers & #39; only they discuss there not saving the world and helping humanity, but their actions and dividends and other selfish interests. Despite the fact that almost all the supers shown are bad, the character and motives of each are revealed very convincingly and unconventionally. The viewer can step into every scoundrel's situation and understand why they do what they do. Rescued ' Heroes' hardly more people than maimed. And save exclusively on camera, that the corporation for which they work (VOUT), sold more merchandise and watch more people with them, because the main task of the corporation is not to help people, but to cut money and get more and more power. And here the series is not so much about super-heroes, but about the capitalist dystopia, where the private corporation Vought begins to pressure the government to take supers into the army, in fact, free them to do anything at all. ' Vought ' grows people directly and indirectly, ' Vought' is an ideology, right on Žižek. Corporations tell us that we want, how to behave, how to dress, what is, what is right and what is not, one way or another affect almost every one of our actions - they are the strongest modern propaganda mouthpiece, and from the usual super-heroes there are only images in pop culture.
The world ' Guys' is a world where not a person is important, but his career; his salary, image, his public history, but not himself. Anything that can't be sold is just thrown away. Therefore, yes, if you briefly describe the series, it is ' satire on the modern Western capitalist consumer society with superheroes'.
At the end of July of this year, the series “Boys” comes out from under the wing of Amazon, which is looking at the top of the mountain of world cinema. The project was based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Derek Robertson. The eight-episode first season immediately gains popularity and captures high marks of all kinds of critics.
The early victory of The Boys is due primarily to the fact that instead of hype on the next curved mirror of an idle parody, the authors really balanced approach to creating a universe of anti-superheroes. It turned out to be relevant, audacious, sarcastically verified, and even with the right degree of plot twists. Originality, as is usually the case with such attempts, did not eclipse everything, but became a profitable decoration of high-quality genre work.
Indeed, the American film industry is good precisely because it not only creates clichés, but also breaks them. Superheroes, people with physical and mental disabilities, appear to be morally decayed creatures, and who ever said that they should be good or in principle owe something to someone? This is a world that looks more like the truth and a hypothetical picture of superhero assimilation than the precepts of Stan Lee. Here abilities are business, cruel, sometimes vomiting world of hypocrisy and corrupt souls. In fact, this is a scathing caricature of modern society and its contradictory foundations. The boys are throwing the gauntlet of corruption, the era of effective management and unscrupulous marketing, the era of soulless likes and Instagram. The series sniper ridicules the trends associated with this, denounces the current idolatry and media washing of philistine brains. Even the fact that the celebrities in the series are really people with unique abilities can already be considered a mockery of reality. About the dirt on the top in the series is spoken openly, the moral ugliness of the powerful is tendentious. And all this is done, as it is now customary to say, “on a serious scale.”
The “boys,” that is, the team that has challenged the greedy capitalist machine, are indeed made up of those who want revenge, and they are in fact practically elusive, dispensing with quite earthly methods. And her revanchism, long live the screenwriters, is not involved in an empty sound, the story of each character is meaningful and not attached to the side by the wing, but competently inscribed in the plot. The thoroughness and saturation of the ideological conflict of the heroes raise it above the action, make the latter secondary. In the swirling tangle of events in the scenes of superhero battles, there is simply no need.
Thin ice casting also passed successfully. The Avengers, led by Carl Urban, are wildly charming. Superheroes are disgusting in moderation, the doubtfulness of their spiritual qualities is written on the forehead, and only by playing, that is, by fabrications and deeds, they only reinforce their two-faced images.
"Boys" is a series that you don't want to make a subject of discussion. Here somehow you immediately remain tete-a-tete with pluses, and subconsciously hide the minuses away. By the end of the first season, you don’t know if there are any. Somewhere under the crust, the anticipatory signal of intuition is triggered, the answer to the age-old question is approaching – is nouneim capable of kicking Superman’s ass? It is necessary to throw this stone from the heart and see for yourself.
As a child, I adored Spider-Man, watched cartoons, collected stickers, I had a lot of toys with him (even with a parachute), Venom, Carnage and so on. I watched all the superhero movies and I really liked them. Over time, the passion disappeared, but warm feelings remained, released from time to time films I did not miss. However, year after year, such films began to look more and more like commercial stamping. There's a graph, but no soul. The apogee of this process, I think, is the replacement of a pretty gray-haired old Aunt May with a hot milfa in the last Spider-Man. It is clear that the producers will probably make more money with it, but, in my opinion, this is a betrayal of the original. I ended up watching movies like that.
Against the background of all this trend, the real revelation for me was the movie “Guardians” with a strong plot, cool characters, real injuries during fights. Since then, I began to pay attention to all such paintings. There was "Kick-Ass," "Logan," "Deadpool," and now "Boys."
Before watching the series, I read a dozen and a half volumes of the comic, and it hooked me. I haven't seen that kind of thing in a long time. The violence is shown with sadistic ecstasy. The homeless, drugs, intestines, dismemberment and bloody semen (really). The squirrel runs from almost every page.
And now for the series. He's good. The quality of the picture at a height, the acting is beautiful, there is even Simon Pegg, who is the prototype of the main character of the comic, here he appears as the father of the main character. Unlike the comic, where Huey was a lonely Scotsman smoking marijuana in a dirty apartment, here Huey is already a clean and slick American young man who lives in a decent apartment with his sweet father. Just as the two characters are different, so is the atmosphere of these different "Boys." The atmosphere is probably the only serious complaint I can make about the show, except for a couple of minor plot holes. The comic is the most brutal satire on the consumer society, on the whole commerce of comics and movies on them, and from this comic book made pure commerce! There are no black people here, no homeless people, racism and homophobia, which contribute their dark contribution to the atmosphere of the comic book, are not here. There is a dismemberment, but not much, no more than in Deadpool, for example. Navalie creators more from horror, I think the series could become a new word in the superhero industry, but, unfortunately, it will not.
Nevertheless, I watched the whole season in a row overnight, you can say, in one breath, and this is expensive, given that I usually do not watch TV series at all, they are too boring and long for me.
Therefore, I recommend this series not only to fans of the genre, but also to all fans of movies and TV series. A beautiful picture pleases the eye, a magnificent, chic soundtrack caresses the ear, the dynamics are, the plot keeps in suspense and in general it is.

Tired of watching infantile fairy tales about naively correct or sugary-bad heroes? Don’t worry, Amazon made a series based on a rather controversial comic book, where superheroes are finally people like us, subject to normal behavior. Well, normal... A local superman, like a psychopath. The Amazon is depressed. And the invisible man is a voyeur with experience. And most importantly, they are all part of a corporation that makes superheroes a brand. I mean, literally. They write them matches, coordinate incidents with the legal department, promote toys and films with their participation. In general, they do everything that Marvel & #39 does, without having real superheroes on their hands, but also having superheroes themselves.
Especially people in this universe do not like when superheroes accidentally or, worse, deliberately, kill their relatives and friends, and then the lawyers of the corporation offer to settle the conflict for a certain amount. The degree of impunity is evidenced by the fact that the original scene was removed from the series, where one of ' soups' masturbating on the roof of a skyscraper sentences ' I, your mother, Homelander, and I, motherfucker, do what I want!', which quite accurately conveys the atmosphere. Actually, with the incident between ordinary people and bearers of cloaks, a conflict of the series is conceived, which is actually not about dudes in tights, but about fighting them.
The atmosphere of black humor, inherited by the series from the writer, known for his ' Preacher', is perfectly conveyed by the director. Jokes are rare, as well as the sauce of blood and intestines, but all this is placed in places so great that you understand - ' here's how to do gloomy humor!'. By the way, I must say that the original comic is produced by the company 'Dynamite' which is also known for the series 'Highlander', 'The Expendables', 'Battle Cruiser Galaxy', 'Voltron', 'Terminator', 'Zena', 'Stargate' and 'Bob Burgers' ' As you can see, there are no brooms in knitting.
Separately, I want to note the brilliant play of the two main actors. The first is Karl Urban, known for his roles in 'Tore', 'Riddick' and the film's reincarnations 'Judge Dredd'. Outstanding jaw and unprecedented level of self-irony allows him to play hilariously seriously the coolest former FBI agent who wants to settle with the local Superman, named ' Homelander', scores. And the second - the same Homelander and is, and plays him Anthony Starr, before that not much remembered, except for the second-rate series ' Banshee'. But now you can see that he has a great future. I have not seen this level of performance of a psychopath since Bale in, sorry for the tautology, ' American Psychopath'. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets all the possible awards for Best Actor in TV series in 2019.
Alas, all other actors are more for a tick, but these two will be enough for the eyes.
All together - crazy plot, black humor, great shooting, delightful characters and actors, come together as a great example of how to adapt comics, and just shoot interesting series. A sea of fun, no playfulness, and once shown on the screen penis.

It’s definitely worth watching if you like black humor, and you’ve always suspected that superheroes actually have to drive from their capabilities. This is both far from 'Marvel' and from 'DC'. It's something else. The bonus is that the first season has a complete story, and I wonder what they will do in the second. Similar to 'Happy', 'Preacher', and quite a bit - on 'American Gods'.
Do not waste time, if even under the sauce of postmodern superheroes can not be swallowed (although I would like at least 20 minutes, but I would watch - well, what if?), or if excessive, albeit episodic, blood with flying meat, is able to kill all reasonable, kind and eternal, which tells this touching story about how five men bent seven superheroes.
In recent years, superhero cinema has moved away from the tired template and flows into the format of reflections on the topic '. The Avengers finale, for example, freely juggles elements of its own universe, and Shyamalan shows (or tries to show) that it is the heroes who need society, not the other way around; in 2009, Snyder and the team showed a great dystopia in the Guardians. In general, I mean that no matter how jaded the theme of the film, talented people will always find ways (artistic or not) to bring something new to it.
'Boys' is a good project that confirms this idea. Superheroes here in the position of bad guys, shown the embodiment of all kinds of vices of humanity, both literally and figuratively (try to relate to each other seven heroes and 7 mortal sins, for example), but without the grotesque. Antagonists (or some of them) can still be empathized, they remain realistic characters, which adds ' adults' this series is more than a plaque with an age rating (by the way, body horror included).
The series can be a pleasant outlet in the endless stream of invincible moralists in masks and cloaks and, I believe, will be interesting to those who have often wondered ' How to kill Wolverine?' and still indulge in similar thoughts.
Imagine a world where superheroes don’t act like icons from the pages of emasculated comics. Imagine that superheroes are ordinary people on the Olympus of global popularity, that they are behind marketers and entire corporations. Think about it, if there is a superhero among us today, will he become public or immediately become an object of constant monetization? This is what makes us think about the new series from Amazon Prime, 'Boys'.
Based on the comics of the cult man, Garth Ennis, who worked at the time on ' Constantine', ' Preacher' and ' Punisher MAX', the series incorporates the spirit of the classic Ennis madness. From the pages of the comic book in the series went almost everything, from blood and guts, to crazy dialogues between the main characters and very unpleasant scenes. Censorship from Amazon, according to the creators, was subjected to the minimum, everything else was transferred exactly and even more.
The lore of the series, like the original comic book, is a banter on classic comic canons. Here there is its analogue ' Justice League' called 'Seven' and behind the team of the greatest heroes of the Earth is a huge corporation ' Voight'. Here everything is like life, no Bruce Wayne will not keep a team for his money, everything is run by giant corporations that have their own benefits from tame superheroes. After all, what sells goods better than faith in mythical saviors?
But not everyone in this ' fabulous' the world likes the activities of the corporation ' Voight' and its tame heroes. There are those who have suffered the true atrocities of the supers, hundreds if not thousands across the country. The corporation buys the silence of the victims, but not everyone goes to a deal with her, it is about such a team and will be discussed in the series. When superheroes are really the main villains, only the simple ones can cope with them '. Heads Sonderkommando dissenting man-mystery, once recruited by a CIA agent to work on the search for dirt on the Supers. His name is William Butcher (The Butcher), and his role went to the most colorful Carl Urban, the love for whom many have not faded since the days ' Judge Dredd'.
Urban rocked, let go of his beard, armed himself with a seductive smirk and a charming British accent to fall in love with the viewer from the very first scene. As partners, he was discharged no less colorful characters in his own way, which should be listed according to the degree of coolness.
French, Tomer Capon plays the part. A former arms dealer and member of a CIA squad that once included Butcher. After failures in the past, he became more circumspect, has many safe houses and documents. A connoisseur of LSD and at times an incredibly crazy kid, catching the viewer with his French flavor.
MM (Mother’s Milk/Mother’s Milk, choose to taste) is played by Las Alonso. A prison guard, a former member of a CIA unit that included the Butcher and the Frenchman. A family member who has tried his best will cut himself off from the past. One of the most adequate members of the team, issuing a decent number of funny jokes, many of which are dialogue.
Huey Campbell, played by Jack Quaid. In fact, Huey is the main character of the entire series, recruited by a butcher after a tragic incident involving a superhero in Campbell's life. The most difficult role to play in the series, because if the heroes and villains understandable archetypes that do not change in the course of the plot, then Quaid got a transforming character. From the soft-bodied rag in the first series, with each new episode, Huey changes, becomes obese and more confident in the goals of his mission. In the first episodes, this character will probably annoy you, but you have to give him a chance. Quaid perfectly handled his role, demonstrating how a boy becomes a man. It is with such obscene clichés that one can describe his role, may the Gods forgive the author’s literary syllable for this blasphemy.
And it would be criminal ' omitting' in the review, the titanic work of a man missed and expected, Anthony Starr as Homelander, the local equivalent of Superman, is incredibly good. That same Sheriff Hood from 'Banshee', with his atypical facial expressions and rage in his eyes, the perfect candidate for the role of the main villain of the whole series. And most interestingly, Starr changes from scene to scene, in public he is America's favorite, serves and protects, but behind the scenes - a ruthless bastard pursuing his own goals. The very case when the antagonist is so charming in his madness that he pulls the blanket of audience sympathy on himself.
A huge number of references to pop culture from which cheeks naturally burst, incendiary dialogues and an interesting development of plot branches, without unnecessary sagging in the narrative - all this 'Boys'. The series at full speed broke into the lives of all geeks of the planet, then left a pleasant aftertaste and promised to return.
The series is an event of 2019.
'You know, apart they're full of nothingness. But together they're fucking Spice Girls!'.
“Guys”, “Brothers”, I’m already afraid and imagine what the next localization company will call the series next time, but what I’m not afraid to do is tell you why you should turn your attention to the “next” series about superheroes. I think that each of us has one way or another had the honor to get acquainted with the superhero genre in the serial hypostasis, and looking at the “masterpieces” of sidab, we can say that for some this acquaintance could not go very smoothly. Okay, enough of this, let’s move on to the subject of our interest, the series “Boys” (I will use this title, according to the decision of Kinopoisk).
My acquaintance with this series began long before the publication of the first trailer, as the actors of this series already in advance, observing all confidentiality agreements, poured all the photos from the set, praising the impending bloody wave, but looking at the advertising campaign of this series now, we can say that it was just a light breeze before the impending tsunami of the marketing campaign. This wave covered almost everything from sponsorship of independent channels on YouTube, like “Honest Trailers” and ending with a whole video from Slipknot (Solway Firth, if anyone is interested). Usually, such a wave is not a good indicator, and so it was with a huge number of films and TV series, like “Halboy” for example. The company, knowing in advance that the creation is not a masterpiece, tries to compensate for losses by creating artificial interest using contextual advertising in every toilet on the Internet. But I am in a hurry to please you, this series is the exception to the rule. Since the industry is already more than saturated with fair heroes with developing in the wind cloaks, now Amazon has moved to approach a more realistic development of events, in this case, the picture shows the characters as a kind of Hollywood stars with a god complex.
Hugh Campbell, played by Jack Quaid (star son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid) on a routine pre-dinner walk, loses his girlfriend in an "accident," but this accident is not like the ones ordinary people can learn about from the news. The thing is that one of the superheroes of the world-famous “Seven”, A-Train, ran through it, turning the love of his life into meat puree, seasoned with bones. After Robin’s death, Jack can’t find a place for himself, a mixture of anger and hatred for heroic scum haunts him, and the whole rattlesnake mixture gets its cherished fuss in the form of compensation for damages, amounting to 45 thousand dollars, but at the same time, Hugh indirectly must confirm the fact that Robin was on the roadway, which is a vile and obvious lie. This is where the chance for revenge comes in the form of a true angel of revenge named Billy Bucher (Carl Urban) and offers the very dish served only cold. Soon, our duet “the Avengers” (ironically off the scale), joined by 2 members of the former gang of Boucher: The Frenchman and Mother's Milk. I can already see all the tears of each localizer, because these names are better left in the original, because half the jokes that the team members pour on each other every minute are lost. In fact, finally, the creators approached the names of the characters creatively, and not just added to the names of the super-and received his kickback, raising this topic, immediately recalls the long-forgotten and extremely underrated series from Sony – “Powers”, if someone is interested in the topic, be sure to pay attention to it.
On the other side of the barricades is the Voight Corporation, whose main product is The Seven, a team of superheroes led by a hero named Homelander played by Anthony Starr (whom you may know from the role of Lucas Hood from the Banshee of one of the best series in my personal top). Also in the “Seven” includes Deep (Chase Crawford), the prototype of Aquaman, which all the other characters only mock, constantly making jokes about his sexual relations with fish, A-Train (Jesse Usher), the prototype of Flash, which became the cause of Hugh Campbell’s personal vendetta, Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), which resembles one of the heroes of “Cobra’s Throw”, Translucent (Alex Hassell), well, you do not need to have superin to guess about his powers, as well as an unhealthy craving for subjugation to the heroine team, Black Nogerin, with the help of Magorinam (Edolvita), Black Nogorodovitch, the superherin (Engina) and the supergenerate the heroine (Engry).
So, stylistically, the series is more than good, the flower-color resembles the early superhero of our father Zach Snyder, the fights, although well staged, sometimes the viewer can begin to get nauseous from the speed of changing angles, but the consequences of these collisions are shown in all the anatomical beauty, with meat and blood, all in the best tradition of Tarantine caritnes. The soundtrack, oh, this soundtrack, you can immediately see that the creators did not stingy and gave us a lot of recognizable hits that burst onto the screen at the sight of a mess. Special thanks to the writers and director, who so succinctly convey the whole atmosphere, here you can clearly see the balance between the development of events and the grinding action. The viewer does not get tired of endless conversations, from which even the most hardcore party player from Lollapaloosa will fall asleep, nor from the endless action that overshadows the plot reveal of the characters. But the main diamond of this series is the acting, which is extremely unusual for this genre. Jack Quaid, for example, in order to prepare for the role of a mediocre electronics salesman, went shopping, calling all the consultants on the way, so that they would look at the lines of the hero and tell if he was talking nonsense about the bandwidth of HDMI cable. Well, Anthony Starr, it's just indescribable, to create such a cynical and duplicitous character, with many manic inclinations and incredible megalomania, it still has to try. His glance alone makes even the most notorious daredevil pale, and playing in public makes even the most convinced atheist believe in a valiant god on earth. The series itself breathes new trends into marketing as an art. The development of the rating of each hero is analyzed by the research department, and each stroke of the hand can affect million dollar transactions, it is simply genius.
As a result, we get a great superhero series, which, with its inherent black humor, plays all the clichés of the genre. This series will easily dilute the cool summer evenings of any snob and make even the most skeptical viewer smile from another idiotic joke of Butcher, and the atmosphere of the series as a whole will not give a second to think about breaking away on anything else and the only upset when watching will be the fact that the season is so short. But no problem, even before the launch of the first season, Amazon decided to renew it for a second.
The Boys was a breath of fresh air for me. I’m tired of Marvel or DC PG-13 movies.
This series is not a black comedy parody in the style of Deadpool or Kick-Ass, it is more like Zack Snyder’s Watchmen that superheroes can only be super villains. And not because of a global plan to change the world, but simply because they have the same vices as ordinary people: anger, greed, vanity.
The dynamics of the film are great, in the eight episodes of the first season I did not see a single passing series. There are many hard and sad scenes in the series. But don’t think that the series will make you depressed, thanks to the action scenes and humor on the verge of foul (and joke there is my respect), it is more likely to seem to you an adrenaline attraction.
Graphics, camera work - all at the highest level. As well as the soundtrack itself. But what's important is that it's fighting -- the people in this show are really fragile. And since the series with an adult age rating, after meeting with superheroes on their opponents, you can study human anatomy.
What about the canon? Not perfect, but close. Some footage from the series can replace the illustration on the comic page of Gar Ennis and Derek Robertson.
And it is impossible not to say about the images of the main characters. Even violent scumbags are ambiguous. With his character. With his story and cockroaches in his head. These are not just clowns in tight tight tights, but really bright characters, each of which will cause mixed emotions in the audience. Most of all, I want to praise Anthony Starr (Homelander) – to be honest, I did not recognize him here immediately, although I watched all seasons of the series Banshee with him in the title role.
I advise everyone who misses the good old-fashioned ultra-violence and black humor, and from me 9 out of 10.
“Boys” is a fantastic action, although it refers to a superhero theme, the project itself is made in the best traditions of a high-quality drama series with all the ensuing consequences. At first glance, judging by the trailer and annotations, it may seem that this is the most ordinary story about superheroes, albeit with an R-rated, and humorous bias, but in fact this series is quite deep, layered and dramatic.
If you remember the series “The Punisher”, also based on comics, where the authors approached the project with a view of realistic actions, then here the whole project was executed with all seriousness, tragedy of the events taking place and an important message for society. Despite the full range of visual grace, the series raises quite important topics and demonstrates the so-called reverse side of everyone’s favorite superhero fun. It is not without reason that the authors simultaneously reveal two important topics: entertainment and religion.
On the one hand, we are shown how some people are blindly led to advertising and live in a world of total consumerism, while others, without strain, earn on all this, making a quality brand that brings considerable income out of the saviors of mankind. And on the other hand, there is a very strange and at the same time vivid parallel with the real world, where religion and all pseudo-divine instructions are simply imposed on people, and the person himself does not even know about it, how he becomes a guinea pig and a cash cow for powerful forces that manipulate, mislead and simply devastate personal consciousness, replacing human thoughts with the conclusions someone needs.
In the series, the viewer witnesses the large-scale activity of two of the most gigantic zombie sects of humanity, which at a certain point unite into one whole, hinting that superheroes are messengers of God. And the worst thing is that people believe this, not wanting to notice the obvious things of absolute improbability, which once again proves that competent advertising will convince anyone and everyone if it is necessary for the customer. The only question is the professionalism of the advertisers. And in the series, they are real superheroes, able to control entire masses, despite the seemingly progressive age of technology and production. In other words, the series shows the behind-the-scenes life of superhero marketing, or rather the activities of people who are behind it.
The series has a lot of violence, cruelty and at the same time realistic content, despite the fantastic basis about people with superpowers. Inconspicuous references to our lives are not jokingly surprising and make you think about how modern man lives today, where his world is ruled by an immortal three-headed dragon: religion, television and advertising. But first of all, the series is not about this, but, on the contrary, about people who oppose all this, although each of the characters pursues exclusively personal goals, unaware of what they are actually fighting. The authors of the series did not become very original and delve into the peculiarities of human nature, so the basis for the actions of the characters is the desire for revenge. The question is, what else can be stronger and brighter in the framework of dramaturgy than the desire for revenge? That is why on the surface of the plot development according to the actions of the heroes everything looks very simple, understandable and without unnecessary deviations, but at the subconscious level the semantic message of this story is very large and multifaceted, which gives reason to speculate, reflect and realize quite important things.
If we talk about the quality of the picture, then it is no different from multimillion-dollar full-length blockbusters, so everything looks very spectacular, large-scale and exciting. And the cast does not even have to talk, because he speaks for himself, or rather the names of the actors put a fat point in the audience’s trust. In general, if you are hoping to see a simple superhero story with elements of comedy, then you are deeply mistaken. This is a real drama series with an adult rating, where important issues are raised and difficult tasks are solved, concerning dreams, faith, personal choice and their purpose in the life of society. Enjoy your visit.
The series 'Boys' came out at the right time, exactly when it is needed most. I know it sounds weird to say the least, especially given how many movies, TV shows, comics and games are made about superheroes, but that’s why it’s so necessary. Now I will try to explain my point of view.
Perhaps I will begin with the words 'Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely' belonging to one English historian. Now, man is by nature a contradictory creature, capable of both wonderful acts worthy of admiration and terrible deeds that history would like to forget. Every person is different, even a cluster of ordinary people who adore mass culture in all its dubious manifestations consists of not identical people. If you take someone ' special', like the most talented musician, Olympic champion, scientist who discovered a cure for the disease of many millions of people, you can see that a significant part of them had vices, they were not ' infallible. Freddie Mercury drowned in depravity practicing ' free love' Lance Armstrong killed himself with doping for the Tour de France, the greats ' alcoholics' even more, just, read the biographies of writers from the 17th century to the present. And the problem is not what is behind the trail in history, addiction or habit, I am sure that everyone has them - it is part of human nature, just because ' features ' these same people are given more attention, and their advantages and disadvantages play a lot in contrast. And if great people who have achieved success, who have accomplished a feat in this or that field, have vices and doubtful deeds on their account, then what will be behind the soul of those who are considered "Supermen" & #39;? How will a person who does not know pain, fear and an equal opponent amuse himself? Or how to dispel boredom by someone who is able to hold a school bus with his hand?
'Boys' but answer these questions from their dark, cynical, fleshy-blooded, cruel and unprincipled point of view. This series is about the vices of society, about the criticism of superheroics as a genre, as an idea, as part of human history and economics. Even without superheroes in our world, you can draw a parallel with at least a mega-corporation controlling heroes both as individuals and as a product, it suggests itself, especially after the good old & #39; Disney & #39; freely practices takeovers of intellectual property. Why did humanity create heroes? Why did the culture of mankind create stories about Hercules, Ilya Muromets, Bahubali, Gilgamesh, Momotaro? These things used to inspire people to be stronger in spirit, cunning, hardworking, better in a word. And it was with this idea that heroes emerged in the United States during the Great Depression. Inspire people to have hope, to have fantasies to hide from the brutal and gray reality. Even a simple person who has no superpowers, realizing that he reads fictional stories about fictional characters, may want to be like them, even without superpowers. I remember my childhood, I remember that my favorite hero was Spider-Man, I remember watching cassettes with an animated series from the 90s, how I went to the movies to blockbuster Sam Raimi and for a long time wanted to be like Peter Parker, I was even so ' nice guy' until the transition age. Now, superheroics are more entertaining and bring a huge amount of money than inspire self-improvement and altruistic actions, and more attention is paid to money. It is not created by people, but by commercial companies for the sake of better economic performance, and it will remain so until the demand for superheroics falls. So in 'Boys' superheroics is a business driven to absolutism. It's not heroes who make themselves, it's the company they work for. Appearance, patrol routes, speeches at gala events and events to attend dictated by marketers and managers. The heroes themselves do not really remember how when someone was really rescued, and the most famous team of supers at almost every meeting discuss the conditions for obtaining income from merchandise and whose lawyers are better in breaks advertising products with their own name and acting in the movies. And how the power granted by the people themselves into the hands of those they consider to be Gods, corrupts them, shielding them from the people themselves, is really beautifully shown. But as for every action there is a reaction, in this case, on each ' god' there is ' atheist-dissident' so for every action there is a response and consequences, which we often emphasize the characters themselves, trying to indicate a starting point. Every situation, every image is well designed according to the character, I really believed in addiction, Oedipus complex, gerantophilia, alcoholism, caused by the desire to protect yourself from emotional dependence on someone. You may not like the characters of this series as a person, may be disgusting to you, but you believe in them, believe in their actions, motivation and vices, as well as the conflict of values and notorious vices. It can be traced in almost every protagonist and antagonist, almost everyone has a struggle between what is dear to him and what he is somehow dependent on. I do not want to spoil, so I will leave the analysis of the plot, I will say only one thing, it only relies on the original source and presents something completely different, which, unlike the comic, not only catches, but also touches something inside, at least for me.
It is also worth noting the beautiful cast, most of the actors perfectly match their characters, if not appearance, then character for sure. Carl Urban is always good and convincing, you look at him and you realize that he can play and he plays, he turned out to be a great opportunist. Jack Quaid did just as well as Erin Moriarty, their chemistry looks nice and doesn’t cause rejection, as does the chemistry of the secondary characters French and Mommy Milk. Yes, in principle, everyone played their roles perfectly, I don’t have much to complain about, but I can’t finish this review without mentioning Anthony Starr. His 'Captain-Superman' and seriously, Homelander is something. The way he switches from the idol of millions to a cynical and calculating psychopath with a Hollywood smile deserves attention and praise. A very unpleasant, downright repulsive character turned out, who catches the multifacetedness of his vicious qualities, but at the same time not without an explanation of the formation of his character and personality.
Is it worth spending 8 hours of your life on this series? For me the answer ' unequivocal yes' because I watched it in one sitting with Russian subtitles. For the others? Well, if you are not confused by all the elements of the rating of the picture from 18 years old, then you can try. However, how else to raise the problem of vices in an artistic picture, without using the main function of film language - to show?
Finally came the first season of the long-suffering adaptation of the comic book Kid, and all I want to say after watching the first season is when will the second.
But everything in order.
Imagine a world where superheroes don’t blame themselves for random casualties, as they did in Captain America’s Third, or hide out in the night, haunted by their moral code that every life is important and you can’t kill them, but booze, fuck, they don’t care about the people they sometimes save, they can leave them to die or kill themselves. You will think, well, what kind of heroes they are, because someone would certainly bring an accusation against them, or go to the journalists, but there is a puncture, since all superheroes work for a huge corporation that cleans up everything for them, and if they fail, then the superhero simply apologizes and goes to drink further. It is because of such a superhero that the girl of our main character, an ordinary guy who works as a salesman in an electronics store, dies. While he is overwhelmed by anger and the pain of loss, he is found by a man named Butcher and told that our hero is not alone and that he will help avenge the girl’s death.
It doesn’t make sense to go on just because, although there are only eight episodes in the season, they are full of action except for probably the first one, but it is necessary to introduce the viewer to this world, because it is not like the ones that Marvel and DC usually show us.
In conclusion, I would like to say that if you are not afraid of excessive cruelty, sex scenes, mat in every scene and talk about Spice Girls, you can safely take this series.
P.S. Who understands from what universe the prototypes of these superheroes are taken, that’s good.
