Mother Maria. A very attractive and beautiful poster for the series, which is based on the novel by Spanish writer Ildefonso Falcones de Sierra, written about real events - ' St. Mary's Cathedral' And I especially liked the image of a poor peasant Bernat Esthanol performed by a great actor Daniel Grao. Bernat is brave and resourceful, who managed to preserve his dignity and honor, to save the life of his son. Very good actors, boys, playing in the first two series. All the actors certainly played wonderfully, including Aitor Luna (Arnau), Hines Garcia Milyan (Grau Puig), Silvia Abascal (Leonor).
The film has beautiful staged scenes, sound, dialogue, mass and battle scenes. Good music.
Special thanks to the translator of the series - Polina Kasatkina, sound engineer Vitaly Emelyanov, backups: Vladislav Danilov, Svetlana Uzhanova, Olga Sokolova, if I am not mistaken with the writing of their names.
The events of the early XIV century are presented very dynamically, burn with Spanish passion and temperament, and you never tire of being surprised by the powerful script, huge and interesting directorial work, the art of costumers, makeup artists, with rather static, but always accurate semantic scenery.
I liked the theme of fatherly love, parental relationships, coupled with the deep religious feelings of the characters and characters. One is amazed at the strength of the spirit of the believers of those times who, without sparing themselves, built such a magnificent temple with their bare hands, imprinting for centuries a strong Spanish faith in the Virgin. Male religiosity seems to prevail over female, men’s prayers do not stop, but the worship of St. Mary contrasts with the humiliated attitude towards women in society. The situation of poor women is particularly disastrous, precarious and more vulnerable.
In the negative for my sensitive perception - a detailed display of violence, the naturalism of the scenes, it is difficult for me to calmly observe the cruelty, sometimes disgusting. Despite this, I recommend watching the series and discovering new moments in the history of Spain with interest.
