Who would have thought, a real provincial movie from a real province! Sometimes you wonder how old the phrase “there is no prophet in his country” must be, that all the generations that can only be reached in the depths of the genetic tree have already lived in its essence.
St. John Perse.
I had the opportunity to watch the feature film “The Incident with the Uraltsev Archive” of the Great Luke film studio “White Koch”. I was basically alone in the room. No, you don’t think that nobody came to the screening, it was just a technical run on the big screen in the cinema.
I was alone in the room and watched the movie for the first time. Having a far indirect relationship to the creation of the "Incident", however, at the time of filming did not delve into the script essence, because I wanted to see the film with a simple everyday look of the average viewer.
Let me get straight to the point.
Of course, it is not possible for me to get into the soul of the writer, but I think that the main message of the film is patriotic.
It is no secret that Russia in its current form is a piece of the empire called the USSR. With the collapse of one state, through the dashing 90s and unclear 2000s, yes, in our time, all adults had many broken fates before their eyes, and if you think about it, these transformations touched almost everyone in our country.
The film lacks the grotesqueness of what is happening and from the first frames in all details and without embellishment shows the whole life and work of the main character - engineer Uraltsev. The necessary cog of the once powerful machine of the scientific and technical complex of defense importance of a huge country, now drags on a miserable existence, vegetating its pre-retirement age.
But life goes on and how much you can fit into it is a personal matter for everyone living. Uraltsev still tries to solve his problems, despite his dismissal at the immediate place of work, where he conducted scientific research throughout his adult life. I am glad that the details of the work of the engineer are kept in a very truthful way. And in general, there are a lot of plot details, which quickly immerses in the reality of what is happening more than completely.
Another line of storytelling is a commercial structure, referred to in the film simply as the “Company”, where the main focus is money, about which Emperor Vespasian said that it “does not smell”.
Among the characters there are ideological patriots, pragmatic businessmen, and rushing personalities. It's like life. The naturalness of the behavior is what I liked in this film. There are no notorious villains with devilish laughter, no superheroes in tights and animal masks. Behavior changes according to a situation that is constantly changing so that some plot twists were unexpected for me.
The action of the picture is also not homogeneous, since the plot leads from the conditional “provincial town” and to the capital of our country, and even overseas – to America itself (the shooting, by the way, is natural).
I will try to answer the most important question: is it worth watching a movie and spending your blood on going to the cinema?
Judge for yourself: the picture is “adult” and cinematic; the plot is original; the denouement without admiring “ooh!”, but unexpected; the actors’ play is natural, and the conclusions ... Here are the conclusions each viewer will make for himself, watching the “Incident with the archive of Uraltsev”.
I personally believe that if I had to go to the cinema on general grounds, then neither the time spent nor the money spent would be sorry. One is worth the other.
