The author’s non-formal view of mysticism, life after death, evil and mental trauma of children. Very good views, design architecture, nature and the doom of cursed places. You can contemplate.
In 2003, “Dreamcatcher” was released from director Lawrence Kasdan, based on the book “Stephen King”. Despite the average rating, the film is still quite good and interesting and head stronger than “Dreamcatcher” 2020, which once again tells the viewer about the cursed thing, evil spirit and of course the babush performed by Lin Shay, who plays in one similar film to another, as if starring in the series.
Luke (Henry Thomas) with his new lady Gayle (Rada Mitchell) and son Josh arrive at the lake house. Luke's wife died a while ago, Josh doesn't accept his stepmother, but Gail tries to make friends with him. Further, events develop along a long-trodden path: the father leaves, the stepmother remains with the stepson, the devil begins, the old grandmother who lives nearby tells fables about evil spirits, shows a dream catcher, the main character becomes uncomfortable because of the strange behavior of the boy ...
Should we once again write about the fact that “Dreamcatcher” is a film whose events repeat the events of other similar films, only partially changing the plot strokes? Probably not. The project shot by Kerry Harris does not bring anything new to the horror genre, only complementing it with another passing film, which will be forgotten immediately after watching.
The very plot strokes that try to distinguish "The Catcher" from any other similar horror on the same topic, in fact, turn out to be quite stupid. The heroine of Rada Mitchell is presented as a child psychologist with experience, but judging by how quickly her boy freaks out, Gale left the practice somewhere in her youth, not having really had time to work in her specialty. Yes, her nervousness increases with each new day spent next to Josh, but intolerance, increased voice and other “symptoms” of the unbalanced lady suggest that the character of Rada Mitchell is not able to help anyone as a psychologist (because even herself she can not help).
Lin Shay, as it becomes clear, is introduced to the plot only because she has “enormous experience” playing omniscient grandmothers capable of fighting evil. Why the hell she lives in the wilderness, how she sells her homemade jam and dream catchers, if there is not a soul around - it is not clear. Why the hell does she need dream catchers with evil spirits in them? In one episode, she says that you can get rid of Evil by burning a dream catcher. That’s just why you had to wait for someone to release Evil into the wild, and not burn this thing right away – no one (including the director and heroine Lin Shay) can answer. Neither can they answer the question of why you should bring your new woman to the house where your wife was once murdered. It's a bit of a star! What psychological stability should the head of the family have if he is able not only to cross the threshold of the house where his wife was brutally killed, but also to bring his 6-year-old child there!
Judging by the actions of Luke's dad, he's a dumbass. Every decision is the height of absurdity. To come to the wilderness, to leave there his new wife with a son not native to her, to come and immediately accuse his wife of something incomprehensible, to go to teach the child to cut wood and give him advice as if he himself does not understand anything in the cutting of wood. And also to engage in the procurement of fuel with a small axe, which and the tablet can not split! It's just my dad of the year!
Amazing can be considered the fact that adults in the literal sense are weak in comparison with the child (scene in the forest with wood cutting and the next in the forest house) – a vivid confirmation of this.
The film is bad in everything - the acting, directing, plot, actions and dialogues of the characters. Unless a bright picture brings a little color viewing, but against the background of everything else and it does not save. If you choose between “Dreamcatchers” is real, it is better to watch the filmed by King.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
I didn't like this movie at all. One night I wanted to see a new horror movie and came across this one. The trailer seemed curious, and two actresses from my childhood here are both respected. I decided to watch, and in the end the evening was ruined.
The debut horror film with a taste of the mysticism of Kerry Harris was a failure for a number of reasons. Even if you look very carefully for the positive aspects of the picture, their negligible number.
The film is absolutely uninteresting, terribly boring and dead. I mean, he literally kills the viewer with something that sucks and sucks out of his finger.
We see the story of a murdered woman. Her husband (already a widower) after some time after the death of his wife returns to the house where she was killed, together with his young son and his new woman. The son has terrible nightmares. The woman of his father (she is a psychologist) tries to help the boy, soon they will meet with something inexplicable and creepy.
In general, Rada Mitchell is a good actress, and I like her since childhood, but in recent years her career as an actress is rapidly falling down, and films in which she plays worse and worse and worse.
Once she could be seen in a cool science fiction film ' Black Hole', in cult horror ' Silent Hill' Woody Allen drama ' Melinda & Melinda'.
Now Mitchell plays in dubious films, such as 'The Victim', 'Dark', 'Dreamcatcher'.
No one says she’s bad, but the movies are so bad that nobody pays attention to her. Mystical film ' Dreamcatcher' as something amateurish and amateurish. It is not only bad directing and ridiculous plot, but also terrible camera work, which is a separate topic.
Lin Shay (sister of the founder of the huge film company New Line Cinema) is most often remembered for horror films ' Astral' but a good moviegoer knows her for small roles in famous and favorite horror films like ' Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 7', ' Zubasticians 2'). Shay is a good actress, and in ' Dreamcatcher' she was supposed to bring something respectable and nostalgic, but again the actress is lost in the frame due to poor directing.
As for the boy Finlay Voitak-Hissong, he overplayed. The story of the film itself is very weak. Even at first, the pictures intrigue, but then it becomes clear that the movie is a failure.
I’m really sorry, I wanted something interesting. Personally, I send this dark movie to the list of horror movies in the basket of something questionable and failed.
Now the bundles stamp such films of unknown quality and it is unclear why. Cinema moving in the direction of these works, nothing good and high-quality will not lead. This film has only a mysterious poster, an incomprehensible trailer, but the inside is empty.
'Dreamcatcher' is a 2020 American mystery horror film. Bottom line, this film ' catcher viewer' those who want to see something scary and interesting, but there is nothing in the film. I tell him 'no'
I confess, at first I thought that it was on the wave of the popularity of the forgotten was the graphomaniac Stephen King decided to remake another, by the way, deservedly spat everyone ' Dreamcatcher'. It wasn't here.
I don’t want to write a lot, and in fact, there is nothing about it, but you still need to ironize a little. The film left the question of who is still filming this for. Is it possible to seriously interest someone now with such a creation, and someone will come out of the cinema, take off the mask, and say ' Oh, I almost put my pants in my pants, how terrible it was, not for a minute did not come off'? Not only that, the film is a completely talentless intrepid and unoriginal plot - an abandoned house on the outskirts with a dark tragic story and a strange grandmother next door, a child with strange things, a family with problems. 200? 300? That happened 3,000 times? There is no atmosphere in the film, it is just slowly reaching for its completely incomprehensible and illogical outcome ' we have to kill him right now' Why kill, tie it up and put it in a mess, let it be sorted out, Michael Myers was in a mess until he ran away. By the way, not that spoiler, but explanations in the film on the theme ' and what it was ' do not wait, the writers did not bother with it.
Actors don't play well. In some cases, they seem to have forgotten to tell them what to play. Child actors are a special song, but compare, for example, how little Jacob Tremblay played or the completely unknown boy from 'Babadouca' with what we saw in this film. The boy can not even be scared normally, where there is someone to scare, except with a terrible voice. Therefore, it remains to frighten us with cheap screeners and (incredibly!) a woman with loose hair. The woman in the lead role is laughter. She plays a child psychologist. God forbid giving a child to such a psychologist. Not only does she not try to establish any contact with a boy with obvious psychotrauma, so she also yells at him, then leaves, then ends the conversation in half-word with the phrase ' I understand everything' Did anyone who read the script not even think how ridiculous such a psychologist looks? Well, how to bring a child to rest in the house where his mother died, and leave there alone with a stranger in general - this is fucking psychological. It’s easy to understand: look at your dad. He's just a tree that shows up to leave, call the phone once, and come back for two minutes of screen time. And finally, raise your hands, who is not tired for the twelfth time after 'Astral' to look at Lin Sheye as herself? I understand that popularity has fallen on the decline of years, but there must be a reasonable limit. After all, she had other, non-trivial roles before in her career, remember at least '2001 maniac' - a chic, by the way, movie.
The strength of the film is only one - field shooting, but for its implementation, the authors may have had to make a documentary about wildlife and it would be quite tolerable.
' Dreamcatcher' is the debut film by Kerry Harris. What are we supposed to do?
Let's go through the pluses, there are not very many of them here. In some places there are very beautiful common plans. Sometimes just pleasant to the eye, sometimes carrying a semantic load. For example, in some such scenes, the tension arises from the fact that the characters are very far from civilization, and no one will help them. Another plus note the soundtrack of Joseph Bishara, in places very good.
If we talk about the bad, everything else is bad. Simply put, it seems that the creators are not that they did not study anywhere in their specialty, but as if they have not read a single book on filmmaking.
Creators are alien to such concepts as 'characters', 'characters'. Characters, characters, even their relationship to each other – everything changes at the click of the screenwriters’ fingers. Here's a kid ready to tear his stepmother to pieces. Five minutes later, they walk in the woods and joke. Then the stepmother says that she is not going to replace her mother; after five minutes, she does exactly that. There is nothing to say about the character of the father - he changes seven times.
And all nothing, but in terms of plot and script ' Dreamcatcher' out of hand bad. For an hour and a half, we hear a child complaining about nightmares, as well as indistinct stories about dream catchers and spirits from a crazy grandmother. Guns do not fire, some events do not affect others. Even the death of the mother under mysterious circumstances (not a spoiler, it is the first five minutes of the film) does not directly affect events. The picture is unbearably boring.
You can't be scared either. In the course are so worn-out and clichéd techniques that only wonder given. Everything is foreseen long before it happens. Stupid screamers also in 'Dreamcatcher' available.
Actors. Rada Mitchell plays tolerable, especially when you have to play ' good' stepmother. Lin Shay is the main point that can attract viewers to this film. Strange grandmothers are her thing. There is nothing good to say about other actors.
' Dreamcatcher' is a bad movie. Even horror fans (and Lin Shay) are not attracted to him. I do not recommend this review.
Just arrived from the session home and I immediately behind the laptop write a review about this work of cinema.
Let's start with the pros:
- Nice picture
More or less live play of the main actors
- Excellent music
- The movie looks easy and doesn’t take time.
And now the disadvantages, a little more about them:
1. If you are a fan of films à la Astral, then the filmmaker will disappoint you and you can go to it only for the sake of Lin Shane, who, in essence, did not change her character.
2. The plot is not clear at all. Yes, yes, dream catcher, all that, but it was possible to describe the history of the artifact in more detail and link everything in one clear chain.
3. Characters are stupid and stories as such, no.
The main character is a child psychologist (or psychotherapist, I don't remember exactly) and-and-and-and-and-so. Is that all there is to sympathize with the character? Ugh. Also, the father of a boy who decided to teach his child at ten years old to chop wood, and then could not pacify the raging son? Delusion.
4. The story isn't over. I won't spoil the end, but it's as murky as milk.
Amulet ' Dreamcatcher' was the result of long-held Indian beliefs that found the best way to ward off nightmares. I will not go into the details of its appearance, because for this you need to get into mythology, which has already been done without me. Just say that Dreamcatchers appeared even in our markets ' fleas' and they are popular among fans of all esotericism. But the greatest value of these things are among connoisseurs of cinema.
Nearly two decades ago, Lawrence Kasdan directed the film 'Dreamcatcher'. It was a film adaptation of Stephen King, which critics didn’t like very much, but the audience quite liked. But if you omit this movie, then about 'Dreamcatcher' remembered only in all sorts of series on the second roles. So there's some logic in that Kerry Harris, unknown to most of us, decided to make his movie about this thing. And it was called predictably as 'Dreamcatcher'.
It all begins with the trip of the successful composer Luke with his girlfriend Gail and son Josh to a country house. As they say, there is already a template, but further - more, but, unfortunately, not more terrible. On business, Josh drives back to town, leaving Gail and Luke to themselves.
Walking around, our guys find the house of a strange old woman who turned out to be a conspiratorial Dreamcatcher. It is clear that this thing soon ended up in Luke’s house, after which all the tedious devilry begins to occur.
Interestingly, the lead singer Rada Mitchell also acted here as a producer. That is, the actress with great experience believed in the project and in fact gave it life. But she had to understand that something completely bland was happening on the set and the film did not come out as a horror, drama, or thriller.
I didn’t see much interest in the creators of their offspring. Well, like we have a drama, the boy under tragic circumstances died his mother, but beyond the inexpressive childhood tantrums and psychosis of the main character, unable to cope with these, nothing happens.
Spielberg’s longtime acquaintance, Henry Thomas, who once played in “Alien” and “Alien” in “Alien” 39, appeared as Josh’s dad. But I will honestly say that he played, that he is not - his appearance does not cause any special feelings. Rada Mitchell is as much a psychologist as I am the ancient Greek god Zeus. This I, of course, speak with irony, because this is how hysterical psychologists do not behave.
The idea of the film is good, but the implementation is bad. The film is neither frightening nor amusing. And I like it when even a low-cost mystery horror movie can keep something smart. It's a pity there's nothing like that here.
Since ancient times, when people did not even know what writing and other examples of civilized culture were, they could not but be occupied by the mystery of dreams, in which they could do simply incredible things and sometimes even see possible reality, which could be attributed to the phenomenon of prophetic dreams. And the most interesting thing is that scientists continue to argue and try to find a truth that could explain all the subtleties and nuances of dreams, which are not at all as unambiguous as anyone would like. It is quite natural that human dreams are more influenced by the environment, psychological state, inner experiences, fears and dreams, but in some cases, incredible pictures are born in our minds that require a more thorough explanation. It is no secret that many brilliant people saw in their dreams truly amazing things, the potential of which is difficult to exaggerate. The same applies to prophetic dreams, which, among other things, were dreamed by famous commanders and politicians who were guided by their mysterious visions when making fateful decisions. However, along with ordinary dreams and unexpected revelations that come in the night, we are often visited by nightmares that no one would willingly want to face. There are many ways to completely drown out dreams in principle, but the ancient Indian tribes came up with their own special version, allowing only kind, bright thoughts into our minds, and at the same time filtering all the negative, as well as possible diseases. We are talking about an amulet called the Dreamcatcher, the authorship of which is attributed to several tribes at once. According to popular belief, the amazing possibilities of the Dreamcatcher were opened to people by an ancient sage in the form of a spider, who taught masters the art of weaving threads around a branch folded in a circle, symbolizing the full life cycle. And if you hang an amulet near a place of rest, it will regularly serve its owner and protect him from many bad things. But if we assume that the dreamcatcher can work with accuracy, and on the contrary, the consequences of its use can be not just terrible, but almost catastrophic, at least for those people in whose house it is located. This is what the film Kerry Harris, entitled in honor of the amulet, around which so many legends go.
So, the plot of the film takes place some time after a tragedy occurred in the most ordinary American family, which affected her entire future life. Having lost his mother and wife prematurely, very young Josh (Finlay Voitag-Hissong) and his father Luke (Henry Thomas) each coped with the trouble in their own way. But if Josh did not see and did not want any replacement, Luke quickly found a new passion, which became a child psychologist Gail (Rada Mitchell). And to bring his son closer to Gayle, Luke plans to take them to a remote forest house so they can make contact. But when Father Josh had to leave, and the Dreamcatcher appeared in the house, something began to happen that no one expected.
Perhaps the most famous work of popular culture, which is somehow associated with the Dreamcatcher, is the novel of the same name by Stephen King, in which, in addition to allusions to ancient Indian beliefs, you can find many side dramatic motifs that made the book one of the most relevant and beloved in its genre. At one time, based on “Dreamcatcher” King was made less successful, but still memorable film, which seemed to put an end to the story revolving around everything related to the Dreamcatcher, but directors and screenwriter Kerry Harris would like to delve into the mystical problems of the amulet, while King saturated his story with aliens, monsters and other elements that divert attention from the thing after which his novel was named. In this regard, “Dreamcatcher” Harris fully justifies its name and the whole plot is inextricably linked with the amulet, which in fact was not so safe. The original idea of Harris, brought to a logical conclusion with Dan Shea, had a number of advantages and if properly executed, it could turn into one of the most memorable horror films of its time, and yet, as we can often see with independent horror, the finished result is somewhat different from what was agreed before the start of the shooting process. “Dreamcatcher” by Kerry Harris for the most part looks like a completely typical film, which, in addition to using a mystical amulet, is no different and has only predictable and typical intimidation techniques that are difficult to surprise anyone. However, in fairness, it is worth admitting that in reality there are few sharp, sharp moments here, and the director still tries to escalate tension through the dramatic relationship between a woman and a child, as well as sinister visualized dreams that tend to heat up the atmosphere. And even though Harris does not manage to keep the story in strong hands throughout the entire timekeeping, beautiful landscapes and a good game of actors who carefully perform directorial ideas, the situation still brightens up.
For an interesting and really talented actress, Rada Mitchell, although not fully using her potential in building a bright career, Dreamcatcher is not the first horror in her career, and we can remember her for roles in such memorable films as Silent Hill and Mad Men. She also took part in other productions of this plan, where she always attracted attention, but not always the directors were able to emphasize her strong dramatic sides. Maybe “Dreamcatcher” and does not fall into the piggy bank of Mitchell’s best images, but she deftly pulls out her role thanks to experience and innate charisma, from which one of its appearance causes interest, promising at least, if not something special, so digestible. It was nice to see in the frame and a noble regular of inexpensive horror Lin Shei, who got far from the most extensive, but rather colorful and important to promote the history of the party, with which the elderly actress, as always, coped playfully. But who deserves the most praise is Finlay Voitag-Hissong, who played the very baby Josh, who becomes hostage to the amulet, which caused the opposite effect. The boy had a hard time, he had to repeatedly portray serious mood swings, anxiety and even rage, but despite all the difficulties, he still coped with dignity, thereby making a bid for further success.
In the end, I want to say that “Dreamcatcher” model 2020 in no way should be associated with the work of Stephen King, because it is much more connected with the direct history of the mystical amulet of Indian tribes. And although in the work of Kerry Harris a lot of controversial moments and wrong decisions, if you want, you can look at it.
