Nothing is incomprehensible, but very interesting or "the illusion of deception" “There is nothing worse than a closed door.” – Hitchcock
Don’t watch the trailer before going to the movies or watching at home. Let it be a surprise for you that and how everything will be shown, happening and what the film is about.
The IMDB rating of this film, I think, is more suitable than that of Kinopoisk, but not the essence.
Let’s move on to a quick review of this content. Quick, because everything else will either be a spoiler, or nothing will be unclear.
This is definitely one of the most unusual and beautiful films that I had to watch in 2023 (yes, in Russia it was released only in the summer of the 23rd).
The film is very short, which shows the last episode of the TV show "60 minutes before midnight". And everything that is happening here is an absolute attempt to confuse you, confuse you and even the heroes themselves to try to figure out what is happening here. Because the latter seem to have no more understanding than we do while watching.
But the most amazing thing about this stunning, to my taste, picture is the audio and video visual series. The film, albeit under the label “Horrors”, but no one here will scare you with screamers. No, you won't get off that easily. They're not here at all.
The worst part is that you don’t know what’s behind the closed door in most scenes, you don’t know what to expect or even what to prepare for. This is the most amazing thing that the director inherited from Hitchcock and other films to which he himself refers in the script (for example, “Omen” or “The Exorcist”).
And the film itself, with a big claim to art and art. You should see how filigree the cameraman, the director and the whole team try to hold you and how they try to show you rather banal things, making them difficult (attempting to understand politics and magic, their connections between themselves and are politicians really resorting to magic or are these manipulations and tricks to manipulate citizens?). How many little details are there? Just keep track. At least degrees on the TV and the heat that occurs, although it is not hot outside (link to the end of the future). Or the shadow of a man in the producers' rooms, even though the man himself is never shown, and you have to look into the shadow.
The actors here all played very cool. That's the only way to keep you. And look at the editing. In some places very fast, ragged, like Edgar Wright under a cool audio accompaniment with finger clicks.
But the picture, nevertheless, is not without minuses. The main story is so complex that even the director seems to be lost in what is happening. And that makes it a lot harder for us. Yes, in fact, the whole feature of the film in this narrative, but it is also immediately a minus.
And second, we need a director's version! Haha. To understand what's going on here. For after the first view you understand little. (need a version like Donnie Darko - for the incomprehensible)
In general, there seems to be nothing more to say - run to the cinemas while you have the opportunity, and the film runs at the box office. I’ll end with a few more Hitchcock phrases that fit the film:
- “A film should start with an earthquake, and then the tension should build.”
- “To make a great movie, you need three things: the script, the script and again the script.”
