The second French comedy film I saw with Tarek Budali (the first film was 'Cop on Drive'), and both films I liked because these films are very simple, light, humorous (without vulgar humor) and with a bit of irony and meaning.
According to the plot of the film (and the title of the film ' Not Stars') Jerome (Tarek Budali) works as a sales manager at a ship repair company, he has one trait and habit - he constantly lies about everything and about everyone: he lies that he is a world champion in karate, he lies that he is going to fly into space, he even lies that his brother is a loser. What if everything he lied about could be true? So it happened, and now Jerome has no choice but to follow all this and quickly fix everything, especially when a rich client from Russia comes to Nice to load their company with yachts and provide work for everyone for the whole next year.
Jérôme is a charismatic and intelligent guy, he radiates charisma, but his habit of lying does not lead to good. Tarek Budali perfectly conveyed the role of Jerome, he played both a slightly arrogant guy who is self-confident and a guy who is able to love and sympathize. It was also interesting to see how he got out of all these situations (he has enough savvy), but what is more pleasing is that Jérôme drew his conclusions from all this, and we can all draw our conclusions, too.
'Not Stars' - funny light Fanzou comedy that will grace any family evening.
All the actors of the dubbing transmitted French humor to 100 from 10.
The film consists of charming French jokes. I want to thank the writers at the head of Boulianne for such a funny and funny plot. Director Olivier Barrou focused on French southerners who live separately from Paris. Jerome (played by Budali) composes fairy tales at every turn. And so, when all this materializes, a lovely French pun begins. It's a very charming comedy. I laughed the whole movie. The moral of this French comedy is simple: “A man will always be helped by a woman.” In French films, the main thing is a stunning beauty and wine at the table. Pretty Clay (played by Pauline Clément) and Jerome's lively tales. It all makes me laugh wildly. Love and lies are incompatible. To be honest is to love very much. Female beauty can transform everything in a man’s bachelor world. Director Olivier Barroux relies on female beauty as an ideal, and on male words as the basis for the existing world.
I really liked this comedy. There are two antagonists in the film: the beauty of women and the passion of the French southerners. Irresistible French women attract alpha males around the world. The passion of the French South will conquer and melt any woman’s heart. Captivating Jerome lies as he breathes. Is this not the ease of the modern world? Director Olivier Barrou created a charming, French, light comedy. Barrou even joked about French unions. These jokes are funny, and they reveal European female bosses. Female director Caroline (played by Mueller) appears in the image of all European insidiousness.
I want to say a huge thank you to the director of the dub Igor Efimov. The oak is very chic. All of the actors in the dubbing gave French humor 100 out of 10. Jerome speaks in the voice of Andrei Levin. It's a super duplication of French humor.
A world where all lies become true is French humor about today’s news agenda. It's a very funny comedy. I've been grinning the whole movie.
How did I end up in this “beautiful” movie? Cherchez la femme! Strictly speaking, “la femme” can be understood and forgiven – the choice of paintings at the box office leaves much to be desired both because of the general decline and the transition of the premieres online against the background of a pandemic, and because of the absurd (in relation to intellectual property) sanctions.
To be fair, I liked the trailer – it’s the only thing the creators did well. Actually, it is enough to watch the trailer – in its full-length version you will not see anything fundamentally new. It’s not even that the idea itself is secondary – it’s normal for comedy, the problem is that they couldn’t develop it interestingly. You will see three parallel storylines (the relationship of the protagonist with his family, his work, as well as his personal life with background scenes, insignificant for the rest of the plot), but none of them can be called at least successful, not to mention originality.
Banal attempts to joke lull from the first minutes and do not allow you to wake up to the ridiculous melodrama in the final – for an hour and a half of screen time, I may have smiled a couple of times, but it can not be ruled out that it was a funny dream. The whole film was accompanied by a strong sense of deja vu, as if I had seen it before, but only in the best quality. For example, at a discount, replacing Tarek Budali with Jean Dujardin could save the picture with one of his acting.
Questions for casting, however, I do not have – if you wanted to choose the most boring and inconspicuous actors, so that there were not even attractive girls (why are they in the summer comedy about Nice?... stupidity!) – bravo, the result is achieved flawlessly! The only thing I liked was a couple of scenes mentioning Russian culture, especially the joke about Dostoevsky and War and Peace, but again, the image of Russians is completely indistinct, with the same success of sexist corrupt officials could portray representatives of any other people.

Jerome Berarda is preparing to sign the most important contract of his career. A wealthy Russian client is about to deliver a few luxury yachts and ships to France for restoration, and Jerome’s company can provide a full-time job for several years, which will automatically lead to higher salaries, and the union will no longer worry about the possible dismissal of employees. But the biggest problem here is not even that the customer is extremely demanding and wants a lot, but that Jerome constantly lies and does it so often that it causes completely unnecessary hassle that harms not only him, but also the company in which he works.
On the way to work, Jerome can lie a couple of times. Yes, he is a charming and resourceful guy, but when it comes to his personal passions, he is ready to put work aside and do what he wants. And this simply can not but lead to conflicts that arise both in the head office and at a simple dinner with parents and brother. And until recently, no one could do anything about it, but now comes a new day and all Jerome's lies turn into the truth! And this means that all the most interesting is just beginning, because our hero lied a lot and he should now deal with all this as soon as possible.
I immediately liked the main character performed by Tarek Budali. This is one of my favorite French actors, who at one time decorated such remarkable films as “Undercover Playboy” and “Supernanny”. Budali have always faced the role of charming cheerful people who, because of their own stupidity, face completely unnecessary problems. Not a Star! Budali plays on courage, tries to charge with his energy every scene with his participation and even when he does some stupidity, you still can not get rid of his charm, because the hero is really interesting, he has where to grow and why to change.
It was very interesting and even touching to follow the relationship of the protagonist with his parents and brother Thibault. Yes, Jerome certainly screwed things up and in some places behaved ugly in relation to loved ones, but the plot gives him a unique opportunity to show that he is actually not a bad person. Just once he turned almost there and made a lie almost his religion. The film tells us that each of us deserves a second chance and Jerome is no exception. And this is how he will get out of all this, you need to see! Believe me, it will not be boring for sure, and the finale will definitely please you with its emotionality and correct conclusions.
My bottom line: the comedy “Not stars!” was able to please me and at least briefly distract from the gray everyday life. From the film I have only the best emotions and I can confidently advise it to watch.

If you choose between a new American or French comedy, then I will definitely stop at the second option. Only the French are able to shoot comedies so that you will watch them incessantly from beginning to end, sincerely worry, laugh and have fun with the main character and after a while you will definitely want to review the film, because in addition to the main plot you can find a bunch of all sorts of trifles that were not noticed at the first viewing. Now let’s talk about “Not the stars!” in more detail.
Tarek Budouli (SuperAlibi, Supernanny, Undercover Playboy) plays Jerome, the manager of a serious firm from Nice that is about to sign a major contract with Russian clients. Everything seems to be going well, the client arrives in the city and is ready to discuss all the nuances of the upcoming agreement, but unexpectedly, absolutely incredible things begin to happen around Jerome. Every lie he ever told becomes the truth. And this, you will agree, is a very unusual situation. You can even say it’s extraordinary!
Instead of devoting himself entirely to a job that could save the firm from serious financial trouble, Jerome must listen to an endless stream of revelations from the cute translator Cloe, with whom he had previously wanted to have an optional affair. The brother of the hero, Thibaut, faces a lot of problems at once and all of them are also connected with Jerome, who even at quiet family evenings can not tell the true truth. Finally, people from the European Space Agency wait under Jerome’s house to send him on his next orbital flight. As you can see, here you will not relax, and this is not all the lies of the hero that he said. There will be more, so it is too early to relax.
The plot begins to develop rapidly from the first minutes, when we are given to understand where exactly the roots of Jerome’s problems grow, and continues to build momentum in the future. Jerome has very little time to sign the contract. He can no longer be late for work and, worst of all, lie. And then with the family is not as smooth as I would like and they feel that Jerome with them clearly not sincere and it hurts not only parents, but also brother Thibault, who part-time works for the same firm as the main character.
And so this whole situation twists the situation around Jerome with incredible force and it was very interesting to watch him get out of it. Believe me, this guy is smart, but I am glad that he will definitely make his conclusions from everything that happened to him. And not only him, but also us, because this is exactly the real French comedy, which not only gives the positive, but also puts the right thoughts in your head.
"Not the stars!" can be called a real gift. This comedy will be remembered for a long time and I will definitely want to return to it again. But you will agree that lately not every film evokes such emotions.
I consider myself a big fan of French comedies. Both classical and modern. Therefore, I try not to miss the attention of any really interesting French film that tells an interesting, funny and at the same time heartfelt story describing extraordinary life situations and heroes who are trying to get out of them at all costs. So it is not surprising that I wanted to see a new comedy called “Not the stars!”, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise and was able to really please me.
The main character of the film is Jerome, sales director at a large ship repair company located in Nice. Jerome is charming, intelligent and can negotiate with any client. But Jerome can’t go a day without lying. Even in small things, he prefers to tell lies, because it is easier for him to live. But now everything will be different.
When Jerome wakes up, he begins to notice unexpected things. Everything he lied about for a long time is true. Late for work and lying about flooding his apartment, Jerome suddenly notices that he has all the floors in the water, and a plumber stands on the doorstep! And then more. At work, everything is crazy about him and sometimes it comes to complete absurdity. The girls strive to start an affair with him, which turns into a lot of unexpected moments, and Thibaut’s brother becomes almost the main victim of a series of deceptions by Jerome, suffering in the car, in the shower, and at work. The situation was not easy and something must be done about it.
In my opinion, the film turned out not only interesting and funny, it has a very interesting idea. Everyone at least once a day tells a lie. This is easy to check yourself, and if you doubt it, the official statistics from psychologists will confirm it. So Jerome can not miss the opportunity to lie, just to spend an extra half an hour in the bathroom or having a cocktail in the bar. But any lies gradually accumulate like a snowball, and we see the consequences for the protagonist and his environment.
I am very pleased that in “Not a Star!” we see the signature French satire, which, on the one hand, charmingly ridicules both Jerome and everyone who is used to lying about small things, and on the other hand, the plot has the warmth of family relationships, as well as such concepts as reconciliation, the ability to admit mistakes and move forward with a clear understanding of what you will do next.
So I want to say that Not the Stars is a really good, kind and inspiring French comedy that combines sharp satire and family warmth. Such films will always be popular and I have no doubt that you will appreciate it.
