A slippery slope When such mastodons as Bruce Willis, Thomas Jane and Mike Tyson are brought together on the screen, even from a passing and cheap film like Vendetta, the viewer expects to get the maximum of good emotions. In our case, everything turns out quite the opposite, because there is no sensation, which can be immediately noticed by low ratings and reviews. Jared Cohn is not able to make the move of the horse, as he is very limited in means and imagination, so the picture is released raw, secondary and everyday. Once again, the public is trying to feed a sluggish story about how a heartbroken father decides to take revenge on the bandits for the dead daughter.
“Vendetta” is a half-extinct blanket, similar to the maveton of ancient centuries, which the director tries to pass off as a kind of revelation. In the course of his play, he is similarly and exaggeratedly trying to sit on two chairs, naively flaunting the version that you can take revenge on anyone, even despite the confrontation of law and order. So it is worth preparing in advance for how the main character will silence the detective in his house, bring fear and horror to local gangsters and pour someone else’s blood in the streets of the night city. However, all his mental throwing, pain and anger will fly into the trumpet because of just one puncture, which is an annoying miss of the director.
Why, why and for what – all these questions are thrown to the sidelines of the plot, the viewer does not even want to explain, and why the hell is a group of scoundrels killing a girl? All the necessary answers will remain behind the scenes, after which the plot will be pulled like an owl on the globe, completely losing later all potential and at least some authenticity. From the moment when the main character, a war veteran, takes up arms, the whole story will slide into outright self-irony, where the villains are shown amorphously and pretentiously, and the good will slide to the image of a faceless executioner who does not know pity and mercy. A kind of image of the Punisher on the minimal sheets, decided with his bare hands to strangle anyone who gets in his way.
Jared Cohn plays the mafia, but it turns out to be extremely bad, because there is no sinister excitement in the eyes of homegrown gangsteritos, they are simply impossible to believe, so they seem caricatured and pathetic. By the way, even Bruce Willis in the background is not able to pull such a sloppy sketch on his shoulders. In this shop, the veteran of the movie for the most part sits, frowns and tries to look formidable in the image of Donnie Fetter – a kind of cruel don who owns an entire underground empire. It is difficult to see an actor in such a role, but you can not escape from fate, especially at the moment when all his efforts are erased into powder by the director himself.
“Vendetta” says that her story is illusory, funny and ridiculous, they are trying to sell us a formidable look of the mafia, but in fact we see that this is an ordinary punk who does nothing but scare young people, prostitutes and wanders along the tracks on ridiculous foreign cars. What's all this pathos, folks? Closer to the final, the degree of absurdity and the apogee of stupidity only grows, which leads the viewer to a crazy and pathetic shootout in some abandoned garage. After the credits crawl on the screen, the viewer will no longer remember more than half of the film, since the meaning in it, and especially logic, will gain a broken penny.
From a good audience will receive only light stylistics in the style of John Wick, a good job for the operator and a pleasant acting of Thomas Jane, who at rare moments will try to adequately serve his number and embellish the image of a cunning junkie who got into a bind because of the main character. And more in this action movie will be nothing to look at, as the creators will go on the old roads, where every bend and turn has long been familiar to all travelers in the world. Is it necessary to say that "Vendetta" suffers from all the diseases that are characteristic of the genre? These are fabulous shootings, and demonic fights, and faded Theo Rossi, whose hero is more ridiculous than terrible.
What's the moral here? It will be difficult to say right away, because the end of Vendetta reminds us that revenge is not always able to heal a person’s soul. Deciding to kill an offender or enemy, you become the same murderer, robber and murderer that will lead you to the graveboard. Retribution, punishment or punishment carry a very slippery slope where it is easy to cross the line of no return. Whether you’re a former Marine or just an office clerk, it’s not that important, because you’ll still drown your hands in blood and sell your soul to the devil. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, so do not rely on blind chance or a farce, retribution will still come for every avenger.
Of course, the conclusion is correct, but how ridiculously it is presented to the viewer. Apparently, Jared Cohn believes in the infallibility of his craft, but the fact we get an expired cheese with a broken price tag. Already repeatedly these woe-creators give wishful thinking, but the nervous system of the general public suffers from their terrible works. “Vendetta” is a weak, simple and stupid film, whose rotten filling causes only vomiting, it is too familiar to all of us. A regular action movie for the evening, and that's on the condition that they put a gun to your head and make you watch it on pain of death. If you don't look, you won't lose much.
P.S. Mike Tyson will appear in only a few episodes in this film, so there is almost no benefit from it for movies. The former boxer will sparkle here with his texture and will be so, so even his fans can turn the fishing rods with a calm conscience. There is nothing to see here.
