Magical stories with pragmatic foundations The film was shot by regional television of the province of Baleara. This saved the fairy tale from the abundance of computer graphics. All the fabulous wonders here are not drawn by a computer, but created directly on a real set. Models, multi-scale mise-en-scene when talking to children with a giant – in the computer era safely forgotten, recalled the young Spanish director Hector Escandel. The traditions of “New Gulliver” by Alexander Ptushko live and are used by the modern generation of filmmakers. This handmade, of course, pleases the eye. But this practice in the world is somewhat dotted, inconsistent. And that intermittentness is also striking. The noble Spanish picture clearly lacks the lightness, irony and recklessness of the best films of Alexander Arturovich Rowe. And fairy tales from the Balearic Islands are too pragmatic for the Russian viewer. It seems that giants are present, and witches, and evil fate. And only the encounter with all these incredible creatures and phenomena is always explained by some vital necessity. The fairy tale in this version turns out to be a lie, but on an absolutely real and pragmatic basis.
