The first carrier... Is this work dangerous, is it dangerous?
- No, normal transportation.
The dashing driver deftly walks away from the chase, is not afraid to break the law and without asking unnecessary questions, transports any cargo for money (while not shying away even by armed bandits). Simple, at first glance, the plot has more than once become the subject of film adaptations. Suffice it to recall, not so long ago, the fashionable "Driver", who glorified Statham "Carrier", and even earlier "Driver" Walter Hill. These films differ only in the brand of the car, and the time of action. But it all started with “The Last Race”, although now very few people know about it (and in vain, this old good movie really deserves attention). Some filmmakers remember this well. For example, Luc Besson clearly redone his first "Carrier" from here. Well, judge for yourself, the cold-blooded hero of George Scott as well as the character played by Jason Statham: clearly can stand up for himself, a foreigner, drives a powerful BMW, is punctual, does not violate the rules of the contract, takes care of his car and, moving away from worldly affairs, lives alone on the seashore (the boat, by the way, is also available). Similar locations of these paintings – the same Mediterranean landscapes and steep serpentine mountain roads. At the time, George Scott (like Statham now) was considered one of Hollywood’s toughest men. But thank God, this is where all the resemblance between the films ends, otherwise it would not be interesting to watch.
- Let's see if he can drive behind as fast as in front.
Unlike the French "Carrier" is not an entertaining action in the style of Besson. From the very first frames there is a hurting nostalgia for those times and the sad music of the legendary Jerry Goldsmith, only strengthens this feeling. Yes, there are chases and shootings, but the main idea is quite different and the happy ending is not exactly foreseen. Scott's character knows this from the start and deliberately goes for it, like Melville's "samurai," giving away an envelope at the beginning of the film. He is well aware that he may not return, wants to finally experience the thrills, feel the taste of life, and he has nothing to lose, and money is not the main thing for him. I am deeply sympathetic to his stern, wordless hero. Behind his shoulders is a life experience. Having lost his wife and child, he lost faith in many things, but even after breaking the law he remained a good man and the scene in the church only proves this. As a contrast, the ever-twitching cynical young bandit, constantly fluttering his tongue. He treats a woman like a thing, thinks only of his own skin and kills like that. The hero of Scott, throughout the film, remains cool and very gallant with the lady. And the woman knows which one is really cool. It is only a pity that cynical puppies come to replace the old wolves, for whom honor is only an empty sound. And that's really sad...
Believe, death is of all kinds. What people call death is just a funeral.
