I can't get my thoughts together from this mess. The romantic comedy Just Irresistible reminded me of another food movie, The Ramen Girl with Brittany Murphy, when the mood during cooking was transmitted to restaurant customers through this very meal. To be honest, in Sushi Girl, the idea was worked out much better, the film is more meaningful and interesting. I recommend watching for lovers of "edible" romantic comedies.
The film “Just Irresistible” began with the acquaintance of the main character with a strange man who strongly recommended buying her a crab. Both the man and the crab turned out to be magical, they just had a goal in this film and it is not clear, as it is not explained further, how this same man knew the mother of the main character, and why, in fact, he decided to help Amanda in matters of the heart. Explanations waited in vain: as a mysterious man appeared, so he disappeared.
Then comes the incredible story of a girl who can not cook sauce without a taste of dust. Amanda suddenly, literally in a couple of weeks, learns to cook exquisite dishes, which belong in fashionable restaurants.
I can’t say anything else about the movie. An inexperienced girl needs to save her mother's restaurant, as stated in the first minutes of the film, but then a completely different storyline develops - Amanda's romantic relationship with workaholic Tom. Fate tries in every possible way to bring them together: in the role of fate, the crab and the unique taste of dishes that convey the mood of the cook who prepared them.
In this romantic story, there is floating above the ground, and magical smoke, and an ever-living crab moving where necessary, and mom’s earrings, and a mysterious man (the fairy godmother?). There is no meaningful connection between all this.
The film is mixed, but not in a good way. The actors coped with their roles, but there was nothing complicated in them: no character is adequately disclosed, everything is easy and superficial.
I love melodramas for their romantic mood, positive mood, happy ending and the opportunity to cry quietly over touching moments. By the way, to touch me, you do not need to make much effort, while watching the same film, I felt like a stone lady. The claim to a cute fairy tale, in my opinion, was unsuccessful.
You need to watch this film under the nostalgic mood for the films of the late nineties-early two thousandths with their charming and soft atmosphere, and, of course, fans of Sarah Michelle Gellar, who in this film is presented not in the role of a wrestler or a dramatic person, but a simple and cute girl.
P.S. I wanted to be in the film by Gabriel Macht (The Suits), but his character appeared only for a minute.
