The themes of aliens, gaining momentum in the late 1970s, are still exploited in films around the world, so it is not surprising that the sequel to “The Bitters” did not take long. Following the rule “the continuation must surpass the original in everything”, Mick Garris made an even more ridiculous, but no less curious film.
The conditionality of what is happening in the second part has reached its limits. There are so many doubtful moments here that sometimes it seems as if the boundary of the category “thrash” already feels everything you can feel. The teeth that threaten the quiet American town again are not as unkillable as they once were, and their behavior has become more predictable and almost humanly meaningful. Hunters once again begin the pursuit of this furry game, and the company they are Brad and Charlie, the meeting of which is perceived with enthusiasm even for those viewers who do not dispute the shortcomings of both films.
To my surprise (and delight) in the second part added candid scenes. Moreover, so frank that my facial muscles are stretched in bewilderment, and my eyes are rounded: is this a film with a rating of 12+? It is hard to believe that children who are 12 years old watch movies together with their parents. If you don’t have parents, then... In general, one of the biggest mysteries lies in what audience the creators focused on. For children there are a lot of frank and cruel scenes, and for adults too simple plot, from which in the embryonic stage evaporated all plausibility. I dare assume that they were targeting older viewers who can already afford to drink something strong enough that a relaxed brain would not be surprised by the attractiveness of many moments.
However, the second part was a little bit better than the first. Here, the designs of aliens (of which the most remarkable were again secondary) are better worked out, and there is no stereotyped American family with quarreling children. Some minor scenes like those where teethers lick their lips also turned out to be interesting, but I will be honest: I was fascinated by Roxanne Kernohan. Without her seductive figure, The Main Dish would have lost its raisin. And highlights are really necessary for such films with an uncomplicated plot.
The film Steven Herek ' Zubastic ' appeared on the screens at the best time for themselves. The audience of the mid-80s enthusiastically accepted all sorts of monsters and monsters that replaced the annoying vampires, werewolves and signs of past years, and the more irony the authors concluded in their works, the better. Of course, the path ' Zubasticov' on the screens was not the easiest. Stephen Herek was not immediately given the go-ahead for the production of the project, which at first seemed to the bosses of the New Line Cinema studio not the most promising. At that time, the company had already canceled the horror adventures of the cult maniac Freddy Krueger and wanted to get another no less spectacular villain that would differ from the rolling alien toothballs invented by Herek. Nevertheless, the lucky chance still helped ' Zubastic' to be on the screens, and his name is 'Gremlin'. Joe Dante’s challenging, daring, experimental production, produced by Steven Spielberg, wowed the audience with its comedic ironic mood, which skillfully intersected with horror, and the stunted green monsters themselves showed that when gathered together, they can become a threat not only to Jason Voorhees of ' Friday the 13th' but also to Freddy Krueger himself, the pride of New Line Cinema. Thus, after the premiere of Gremlinov' the idea of Herek was perceived by the producers in a completely different light, the film finally appeared on the screens, managed not only to pay off, but also to bring profit, which meant that the sequel was inevitable. At the box office it appeared two years after the original and received the subtitle ' Main course'.
The film takes us back to Grovers Bend, Kansas. A couple of years ago, a local family of farmers experienced a collision with aliens who literally devoured everything in their way. Uninvited guests from distant planets took their number and sharp teeth, it was almost impossible for an ordinary person to stop them, and fortunately for Brad Brown (Scott Grimes), the Hunters for fugitive criminals and monsters also arrived on Earth after the round monsters, who needed to stop toothpastics at any cost. However, the victory was by no means final. Some of the eggs from which the monsters hatch were safe and sound. All they had to do was wait for the right moment to start wreaking havoc and destruction again. Of course, the time has come, and now it’s not just the Browns who will understand who the teeth are and why they should be feared. The number of monsters continues to grow, and the upcoming Easter promises to turn into a nightmare for the residents of the town. But Brad Brown returns to the city, who has his own long-standing accounts with monsters, as well as the Bounty Hunters, who are not going to leave their affairs unfinished. So toothpastics should not be too happy, because their opponents also have something to show.
It was very important for the producers to release the sequel ' Zubasticov' as soon as possible on the screens so that the audience did not have time to forget the story, and therefore lose interest in it. However, the authors of the script and the director of the first picture, Stephen Herek, decided that he had enough games with inexpensive horror, besides, he told the audience everything he had planned. Thus, the place of Herek at the head of the ' Main course & #39; was taken by Mick Garris, who subsequently noted a number of television productions based on the works of Stephen King. In co-authorship with David Tui, whose high hour will come after the premiere of the fantastic action movie ' Black Hole' with Vin Diesel, Garris paved the way for the further development of the franchise, and it is logical that in history began to appear fresh notes and unpredictable actions. Garris and the Tui rightly reasoned that the audience should no longer be frightened with teeth in the form in which they are already well known. Already in the first part, Herek made a huge emphasis on black humor, and in the continuation it was decided only to strengthen it. Yes, toothpastes are cruel and ruthless, and yet they are not so terrible as to cause fear by their appearance. In this regard, ' The main dish' is more like a comedy than a mixed with humor horror. And although stupidity here has become many times more, it must be admitted that during viewing they are not annoying, but rather amusing.
The advantages ' The main dish' can also be attributed to the fact that the film tries not to stomp in one place, it has quite a lot of remarkable characters and events, the timing fits into a relatively small frame, and in fact there is nothing superfluous here. It is also interesting that the authors decided to return not only Brad Brown performed by the heroic Scott Grimes, but also Charlie McFadden, played again by Don Keith Opper. The audience received with great warmth the eccentric and a little strange Charlie, and he became a kind of symbol of the franchise, entertaining the public with his antics, and at the same time helping to destroy toothpastics who were too brazenly behaving. And although the cast of the film is not full of celebrities, it must be admitted that the selection of performers turned out to be surprisingly successful, each hero is in his place, and maybe one overly sexualized Bounty Hunter is a little out of the picture, it does not create a big problem.
In conclusion, I want to say that 'Tooths 2: The main dish' is a rather funny and fun spectacle, which is no longer worth looking for special horrors. The film is designed to entertain its audience and logically continue all the storylines of the original. Maybe the sense of proportion sometimes left the authors, but in general, this story turned out to be interesting, which means you can safely familiarize yourself with it.
As a child, the horror comedy film ' Zubastic' was liked, and it was on a videotape. The second part was also, but of course, it was always inferior to the first.
The remake is remembered for the scene of a ball of teeth. There is a certain nostalgia for this film. Revisited it many years later and again plunged into the history of evil little alien creatures.
New Line Cinema has made so many movies that I love. It all began with the cult horror film Wes Craven (bright memory of him) ' Nightmare on Elm Street' ' Zubastic 2' is also in the collection of this powerful film company.
This part ends with something funny and funny associated with the story of teeth. The first, of course, is the best. The second is already neutral, but the third and fourth have already failed, and these films did not work. The third part can only be seen because of the young at that time Leonardo DiCaprio, who, as everyone knows, will become a legendary actor, one of the best in the world of cinema.
The second part of Critters tells the story of the sequel. The teeth are back! And they're very, very hungry. A new generation of toothpastics hatched from the remaining eggs on Earth, and these small, cruel creatures staged a bloody feast. A boy named Brad has returned to put an end to these cruel creatures, and he will meet again with friends from space who have returned to our planet to destroy the merciless and sinister hedgehogs. . .
The very idea of the story about these fictional space creatures was always fun. A film with a rare genre, where there is a place for horror and comedy. This remake is for those who liked the first film. In the sequel, many actors returned, and the viewer will have to fasten his seatbelts and fly through the creepy and comic story.
Wherever the actor Scott Grimes played, he was just remembered for Zubastic. The role of the brave young man remained his most popular.
Of all the actors, Lin Shay also stands out. The sister of the producer of the company New Line Cinema Robert Shay still made a career in film, or rather in horror films. We remember her for ' Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 7', ' Zubastic 1 and 2' well, now she is famous for ' Astral' as much as in four films.
Personally, I am neutral to the remake of Zubastic, and this movie is remembered as a funny horror movie from childhood. New Line Cinema is a cool company, and they can’t imagine it, they once had such cool and bold films.
'Zubastikas 2: Main course' (although the original film is simply 'Critters 2') is an American, comedy, horror adventure film of 1988. Cinema from childhood, nostalgia film. Now the new generations of this film is little known, but true film lovers know about this unusual film.

Tooths 2: Main course
I would like to explain the color of the review. It’s just that there’s an opinion that “The Main Dish” is not inferior to the original film. I strongly disagree with that. It loses in many ways, hands on heart. But, the second part looks pretty good if it is considered only in the format of a sequel, and not as an independent movie.
The main dish has become more extensive. Along with the scale, the degree of delirium increased (an important point, this nonsense is very funny - not dull, I emphasize). You can even see references to other works by New Line Cinema. The most obvious - one of the hunters looks at the poster with Freddy Krueger.
The plot takes us back to the small town of Grovers Band (not to be confused with Charles Band, a-hee-hee, sorry), where Zubastica landed a couple of years ago. On the nose of Easter, locals are preparing for the holiday, but the Zubasticians have their own plans (once again to stuff their bellies). Of the familiar characters - a red-haired boy (actor Scott Grimes has grown noticeably), a short-sighted Charlie and a hunter Ugh (or whatever his name is).
With the second hunter, the director Garris did not bother, stupidly invited his wife to this role (and even divided it, lucky Mick, what is there). I didn’t say there was a replacement director. Steven Herek went to other projects, called Mick Garris. Filmmakers know his work from the adaptations of Stephen King.
Apparently, Garris understood that the second time to escalate the atmosphere clearly meaningless, translated everything into comedy. If in the first part Zubastika attacked at night and were afraid to betray themselves, then here they are already riding around the city in the light of day. They laugh, they crook and they go crazy. Timekeeping is not too long, the movie flies quickly.
You can watch it like the second Gremlins of Dante. As a bonus, director Garris has prepared a huge ball of Zubastic for you. In short, a fun and meaningless sequel. '80s, baby!
P.S.
And we have Lena ahead of us, guys. The one from the Titanic...
Two years have passed since the events of the first film. In the old barn, eggs are left, from which a new generation of small toothy monsters hatch. And they begin to terrorize the nearby town, devouring everything and quickly multiplying. Then the boy Brad Brown sends a signal to his friends Space Hunters and flew away with them the former crazy drunk Charlie.
The first film about small evil monsters raised $ 13 million with a budget of 2 million. And a sequel soon followed. From the first film, Scott Grimes moved here as the boy-exploiter Brad Brown performed by Scott Grimes, Charlie (Don Keith Opper) and a couple of Space Hunters, one of which is again played by Terence Mann, and the second still does not decide on the appearance and most of the picture goes in the form of a photo model from Playboy with a huge gun at the head (and, yes, there are bare boobs).
The second part is even more thrash than the first. Directed this time by Mick Harris, for whom the film was the debut. He will then direct a series of mediocre adaptations of Stephen King ("Lunatics, Highway). Despite the increased budget, the design of teeth became worse. They, of course, still ignite and even acquire the ability to assemble into one huge ball. In addition, the sequel completely abandons the horror elements that slipped in the first part, which is a pure black comedy.
On the sequel, you can finish acquaintance with this franchise. The third and fourth films came out straight on video, had crappy scripts and ridiculous budgets. Now they are known for participating in one of them (the third in a row in the series) very young Leo DiCaprio. But that is hardly a reason to watch them. Except for fans of very noble thrash, but they are really very bad.

As already genre-traditional, space guests managed to lay eggs. The offspring languished for several years and decided to be born just in time for Easter, where the festive turmoil around the eggs finally awakened the young generation of Kreit.
Of the old acquaintances, only a boy remained, who suddenly grew up and his mother, even more suddenly aged. Where the rest of the family went, the story is silent, but hunters appeared on the horizon, again pleasing the viewer with their reincarnations.
The only noticeable difference from the first part is that the sequel came out much larger, thanks to the festive bustle of Zubastika to master the whole town. Also, voracious milashes learned new “chips”, became more organized, which only added drive and a lot of black humor. The picture has completely ceased to be positioned as a horror film, the genre roll goes into the comedy grounds, where the bloody component is taken for granted - because when you eat live food, you can not do without it.
I will recommend the film for viewing, the sequel came out more cheerful, Zubastic again caused only a mountain of affection, especially kids, failed acting work, but people are just lunch, and acting incompetence does not affect the taste.
I wish everyone a pleasant viewing!!
The second part of “Birds”, unlike the first, did not pay off in principle.
The thesis in the introduction put me in a stupor. In fact, this film is no different from the previous one. Yes, teeth, yes, blood. Monsters are still charismatic as villains. People who are fighting with them are still interesting to watch.
The sequel is also saturated with black humor. It is mainly related to the behavior of Americans in an emergency. The graphics, of course, did not go far. On the other hand, the scene of a massive assault on the institution, captured by toothpastics looks very spectacular.
Actors do not make much sense to analyze because of the lack of characters in such. I liked Terrence Mann and Don Keith Opper the most. Others also played at the level, without serious mistakes.
I apologize for the brevity of the review. But the second part is not much different from the first.
Since the incident on the farm, when the teethers drove the “soul in the heels” of the Brown family and were later eliminated by mercenaries from space and the boy Brad Brown, two whole years have passed. The town of Grovers Bend has almost recovered from the recent incident, and the unrecognized hero Brad Brown returns to his hometown to visit his grandmother. And as if smelling the smell of their sworn enemy, from the green eggs that the creatures managed to produce in the first series, new critters begin to hatch (They waited two years inside the shell and lurked so that the writers came up with something rational). Catch sarcasm? And since one stupid little man found the same eggs on the farm, sold everything he could under the name of Easter eggs, imagine what a festive "fun" awaits all the residents of Grovers Bend.
The sequel, titled "Main course," was made on a fast hand, which can be seen even with the unarmed eye. The creators of the sequel, we can say negligently treated the project. As a direct sequel, the film should not have been released in such an unsuitable state. Such haste and smearing is explained, as always, by profit. Despite the fact that the prequel was not particularly advertised and subsequently not appreciated in theaters, in the video box office “Zubastika” still enjoyed success. So the producers decided not to bother about anything and launch a sequel about the miracle-judo creatures. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as smoothly as director Mick Garris and his crew probably expected. Fortunately, the film is saved by the creations of the Chiodo Brothers studio, which is better known for its “Killer Clowns from Space”. Thank you to these three brothers (Charles, Edward, Stephen) who worked on the critters/tooths.
Numerous omissions in the script and absurdity could complicate the situation of the picture. But fortunately, the merits outweigh the drawbacks in the scales: Russell Carpenter's camera work, the toothpastics themselves, a few references and again black humor. But the performer of the main role failed. However, these “cute” animals outshine all the actors. Neither the local sheriff, nor the space hunters, nor the same Brad Brown could pull the film out. All attention is focused on these lovers of fresh flesh.
As a result, I would recommend that you familiarize yourself with all quadrology and draw conclusions. At least one of the first three paintings will appeal to you. Such sessions are not in vain. .
I’m a fan of the horror genre myself, but only when it’s becoming more realistic (like Silence of the Lambs, although most are “thrillers”). This series, like the first one, did not make a positive impression on me, because I do not like when children are involved in moral and physical abuse, when they are in danger of trouble. I think the director’s big flaw is that he’s got kids involved in this movie. If we move away from personal ambitions, then I must say that even without my personal prejudices, the picture is weak in terms of cinematic art, namely, when I watch a film, the main attention is paid to acting, understanding the script and dialogues of the characters, dynamism (montage of the film) and trying to understand what the director wanted to convey – and in this regard, the picture is simply weak, because all of the above is “limping”. What did the director want to say with this film? It is foolish to create some small monsters that eat and kill everyone in their path, all this is superfluous and unnecessary for the perception of the human eye.
It is clear that horrors, but in any production, no matter what genre it carries, there must be an understanding of reality, not their personal desires, there must be a seriousness of the idea for creating a picture, acting work must be given in full, the operator creating the shooting must try to show the truth of the story. I have not seen anything like this here.
The picture is not desirable for viewing, and children under 16-17 years are generally contraindicated.
The unexpected success of the first part, which not only paid off and brought profit, but also became a cult among the audience, led to the fact that the producers realized that they needed to forge while hot and quickly muddled the sequel. With some differences from the first film. First, the cast changed slightly. So the grown-up Brad began to play Scott Grimes. Barry Corbyn replaced Emmett Walsh as Sheriff Harve. Also introduced a few new characters, no less colorful than in the first film.
But the main change happened with the plot. The main reason for the success of the first part was in the exquisite balance of the film on the verge of comedy and horror, then the film made a big bias into comedy and completely lost any hints of horror component. However, light black humor and bloody episodes are available. Here you can draw a parallel with the Gremlins. Which in the sequel underwent exactly such a transformation. But let's go back to the toothy koloboks from space.
Despite these changes, the film did not deteriorate. Fortunately, the film did not suffer the fate of most sequels, which come out weaker than the original. The new director did not fall face in the mud and gave a decent film, which bribes with good dynamics and atmosphere. It is not inferior to the first part and black humor. Here he is plenty, as amusing and amusing situations, most of which fall on Zanta. In terms of bloody scenes, they were also not let down, though not many, but they are competently scattered throughout the film and are completely appropriate.
Not bad, and in some ways even the best sequel to the cult film. Connoisseurs of genre films of the 80s will be pleased, however, and the new generation should get acquainted with the film. Don't upset the Kraits with rejection. You know what I mean.
Less than two years have passed, as a teenage horror film "Zubastic" with elements of fiction received its continuation. In general, it is understandable: even if the first "Zubastic" and were not a benchmark, but the film discussed became, they were scolded, laughed at, but, most importantly, they watched. Well, what can we say if the $2 million budget invested in them in the United States alone surpassed itself in box office by more than six times. Therefore, it is not surprising that "Zubastika" began to turn into a saga.
But I would also like to point out one particularly obscure fact. In writing the script "Main course" debuted David Tui. Later, he will write scripts for such famous films as "The Fugitive" and "Water World", and as a director will give fans of fiction "Black Hole" and "The Chronicles of Riddick". Here's how: start small, then more will come; so you can write a thank you to the creators of "Zubastic 2: the main dish" for giving a chance David Tui.
The plot of the second "Zubastic" will tell that hungry creatures from space, such fluffy balls with deadly and sharp teeth, will leave offspring in eggs and it was only necessary to wait for their hatching. By the time of their birth, the hero of previous events returns to the town, who saved the city from complete extinction, Brad Brown (Scott Grimes). He does not yet know that he will once again enter into battle with voracious aliens and again meet on his way a little abnormal Charlie, who became a space hunter for toothy absorbers.
"Zubastic 2: the main dish" will not be a step backwards, will not seem defective compared to the first part, but still will not look so interesting (if someone at the present time it seems interesting, but when I watched this tape, I could not break away from the screen), because the main intrigue disappeared - in the first film we will not be shown for a long time how deadly creatures look, so the imagination could draw anything, as frightening pictures. In this case, it made no sense to hide their appearance. But it was the right step in the other direction: "Zubastic 2: Main dish" very quickly gaining dynamism. A small swing and already Zubastikas begin what they were created for in the Universe: to frighten their victims and then to absorb them.
The second part can and probably should be watched immediately after the first, so that the emotions were more whole, more versatile, otherwise everything may seem clumped and very portioned. Movies from childhood.
It’s been 2 years since the worst thing that happened on Brown’s farm, when an army of omnivorous creatures came to Earth to devour everything. The creatures are destroyed, but they left behind eggs, which, unfortunately, the inhabitants of the nearby town decide to use them as jewelry for Easter. And then, as luck would have it, it’s time for the insidious creatures to hatch, and the urban nightmare begins. People die, houses burn, and insidious creatures devour everything, whether it is people (and mostly them), whether it is another living being. To save the city from a total disaster, the hero of the first part - Brad Brown, plus the space hunters who have returned to Earth, arrange a real battle. Who will win?
The second part does not mean worse, and Zubastic 2 confirms this fact. The creators managed not only to successfully continue the series, but also significantly expand it. Compared to the first part, the continuation has become much larger. Judge for yourself, instead of a small farm, a town full of inhabitants, in this case game; secondly, the small and insidious monsters have become two, if not three times more. And third, murders, and bloody scenes, too. Zubastikas are merciless, they are able to tear a person apart in a flock for any second, which they do, because here the creators have untwisted as necessary - that neither murder is cruel and frightening.
In general, the film became only an order of magnitude better, and each scene, if not interesting, then dynamic, and so on until the very end. And the atmosphere of fantastic horror and America of the 80s is well maintained. Alas, except that, unlike the first part, the second lost its gloom, and became more “light”. Special effects have become orderly better - explosions, the final transformation of Zubasticians into a huge ball, murders and so on.
In conclusion, if you like the first part, then the second part can not be missed. This is an improved version of the first, almost the only successful continuation in the franchise. The only drawback is the absence of the very frightening gloom that fascinated in the first part. The Zubastikas managed to capture the city for a few moments, and that does not mean that they will not go further. Like the metropolis. But that’s another story altogether.
The tribe of Men against the tribe of Zubastic, or Look at the horror of kindness!
The continuation of the “toothy” saga liked even a little more than the very first part. “Zubastic 2” kinder and better, and furry monsters not only return, but also become stronger than before!
Fortunately, the cosmic theme was paid many times less attention: only at the beginning of the brave galactic warriors traveling around the universe on their “ship”, the boss gives a couple of instructions, saying that the furry cutes left offspring on planet Earth, and it’s time to get back to work. No more thrust, and the hunters for Zubastic the rest of the session do not seem ordinary shooters: the creators of the comedy horror endowed them with semblances of human feelings and paid more attention to the topic of their reincarnations.
Whatever you say, the atmosphere of America of the 1980s is fascinating, and not in general, but in the example of one town (the same one that was shown earlier). You do not want to break away from the film for a minute, so you swallow it in a volley, it is so funny and, simply speaking, fun. Yes, you can’t watch it with children (although at some points you can easily cover their playful eyes), but my lonely evening was pleasantly brightened up. Do not dwell on the acting game - the sequel contains many other things that will intrigue and hook. There was even something of Hitchcock in this picture: especially suspense in those scenes when the Easter eggs were confused with the eggs from which our glorious evil “friends” were to hatch. And the "toothy" ball...
