Weird movie The movie began with a slightly hysterical laugh. It's a listing of Japanese, ineffable and unmemorable names, and then suddenly you hear "Richard Gere." But soon it was not enough to laugh.
The film is very strong and very sad. And it seemed to me that the topic of memory about the war is not at all the main one here. Of course, this makes sense, but the main thing is the relationship between generations. This is the chasm between them, the opportunity to close it using landmark events, the belated realization of the value of relations with people dear to you.
Everything on the screen looks a little strange. Sometimes, especially at the beginning of the film, the children seem very cruel to the grandmother, but then their attitude changes. Grandma is always such a positive hero that you always sympathize with. Hard life, and now grievances from relatives. The parents of the children, the children of the grandmother, are very strange. Such mercantile personalities who already share the skin of an unkilled bear, who do not want to work themselves, but rely on distant foreign relatives. Other oddities, in one of the main features, coincide with us. They're hoping for family protection. Heh.
Ironically, from an ideological point of view, I cannot welcome and cherish the cult of great loss. We have a sacred cult that pisses me off, and this one is no different. It is necessary to remember, not to allow repetition, but not to create a fetish out of it. The fact that children do not remember about the nuclear explosion is not terrible. In fact, it's too early for them to think about it. It's gonna blow my mind anyway. Well, it is clear that this is a painful issue for the Japanese.
It’s hard to say anything about acting. Richard Gere is so young, funny, pretty looks older, even though it was shot earlier. Others are too unusual and too strange. Perhaps the views on unusual faces are to blame, but in the Seven Samurai emotions and faces were read much better.
Actually, the film is very emotional. I got it. But I didn’t like it because of the strangeness, including the ending, and the ideology.
