Best of all. There were no words for a few days, so I was impressed by the film. First, a low bow for the work of the director Kamal. I can now 100% understand why the audience and critics love him so much. When the film crumbles like an incorrectly assembled puzzle, because here the operator cheated, there the actor did not finish playing, here the other pressed – these are all questions to the director. And when you see such a well-coordinated film, such a well-thought-out work, where no one screwed up, you realize that the Master worked. I think the director deserves the audience to know his full name. I am so excited about his work!
The second thing I would like to mention is the beauty of the movie, because it is amazingly beautiful. The grass is so juicy that you can smell it. Houses, costumes, streets, stairs, porches – literally every frame is permeated with beauty. Anyone who has a keen sense of beauty, the film simply cannot but like! But the most amazing thing about this film is how phenomenally the atmosphere of those years is conveyed. Yes, you can make scenery, find retro cars, but that’s not enough. Kamal made sure that the viewer had the feeling that he was transported in a time machine to the beginning of the XX century. I remember listening to songs from the movie before I saw it, and I thought, um, that music was bad. I take it back! She's unfortunate to become a hit on music channels, but she's flawless to immerse the viewer into an era. This is probably the most atmospheric film I have ever seen. Bravo Kamala again!
Of course, I can’t help but mention the actors.
I want to mention the actress who played Rosamma - Chandney. I'm applauding Kamala again! (I think I've said that a few times already, right?:) He was not afraid to take on such a significant role a girl without an acting past. She is known in a very narrow circle as a participant in a music competition. And, in my opinion, it was no less a good choice than the choice of Prithvi for the lead role. Chandney played so convincingly that in some places my heart just stopped beating, and tears flowed without stopping. Even after watching the film, working on translation and subtitling, I couldn’t help but cry. In principle, all the scenes with her participation are worthy of praise, but I especially note some. The scene where J.C. Daniel and his wife invite her into the house as soon as she arrives, and then she is told the plot of the film. Amazing how Chandney manages to convey misunderstanding, fear, timidity. I think it is better to play a Dalit girl just unrealistic! And fear, and hopes, and understanding of their situation, and dreams – all she managed above all praise. And the scene where Janet hands her jewelry? And when is she going to change clothes with them? What about the moment the shoot ended and she left? No, the girl's doing great! She didn't play a role, she lived. Perhaps she is really talented by nature, but this is amazing - although venerable actors, even beginners, but everyone in the film Kamala sparkled like diamonds!
Prithviraj. I have no question as to why they received the awards. Thank you very much to Kamal for seeing him as the only one working on the script. A brilliant incarnation! Genius game. That's genius. I don't have anything to complain about. Who saw him young and fervent, and then shattered and extinct in Between Him and Me, to whom he seemed almost dead in The Road Home, where he played, as he should have been in the role of crushed by life, who saw him sultry macho in "Oh, God!" and so on and so on, could you imagine Prithvi, who would look so natural, playing this image in retro style? Of course, I watched the film as if I were disassembling for spare parts, but... that’s even how he holds a briefcase – and this is a confident handsome Prytha?!! Inspiration in the eyes, passion, even some obsession - bravo!!! But what struck me most was how he played his voice when he was JC Daniel in his old age. This film cannot be voiced, it will lose everything, in my opinion. You can be in makeup, you can lose weight to look old. But how did he manage to have the voice of a decrepit old man!! Brilliant! One of his best roles and a worthy embodiment! I haven't seen Prithviraj, I've only seen JC Daniel. I haven't seen Chandney, just Rosamma. I haven’t seen any actors, just their heroes. Bravo!
As for the other actors, I can’t say bad about anyone, everyone was in their place and everyone was great! I want to mention Mamtu. I have a cool attitude towards her, but the role of a loving wife and a kind, sweet woman was very successful. This balance between noble origins and the absence of caste arrogance, she succeeded in fame. It was nice to see Siddick in the film, I really like him, although I always see him in the roles of nasty types (he played the bureaucrat who did not want to help in the case of JC Daniel). Horribly happy, albeit a tiny, but the appearance, Nadumudi Vienna (remember, the journalist Chelangat comes to him with a ticket to the session found in the archive and asks to remember), for some reason I really love this uncle. And Shrinivasan liked this role (played a journalist). And the one who played Johnson, but I couldn't find the actor's name. In general, I can list everyone, because each choice for the role was successful!
Verdict: The film is unparalleled, delightful, beautiful, ... another million epithets to an excellent degree. It is highly recommended for anyone who loves a good movie.
